It's probably unoriginal, but my favorite character is Rogue. Whether she's a tough, feisty, Southern-Belle-at-heart à la X-Men:TAS or Evo's still-tough but insecure "I don't care but of course I actually do" Goth teen, I just like the character.
I have to say that even though Jean and Scott are not my favorites, this is actually the only incarnation of them that I find likable. Here Scott is uptight, of course, but he's also kind of a dork, and Jean, even though she is touted in-universe as 'Miss Perfect', is actually not. Yes, sadly, her vanity, insecurity, and jealousy issues surprisingly make me like her more. Just wanted to put my two cents on these two out there :)
My favorite group would be the X-Men in general, but the New Recruits in particular. Although I would have loved to see more of them, I also love that now we get the chance to play with the characters a bit. The rest of my favorite characters come from their ranks, including Rahne (for her playful attitude and ability to turn into a wolf), Sam (for his sweet, klutzy, dorky ways), Jubilee (for her 'one of the boys' attitude), and Jamie (for being the annoying little brother to all of them).
I genuinely like the canon couples, especially Jean/Scott and Kurt/Amanda, but my personal favorites are Rahne/Sam and Jubilee/Bobby. I also like Remy/Rogue, but I freely admit that it's mostly because I love their dynamic in X-Men:TAS. I don't dislike Lance/Kitty, but applying reality to a cartoon, I don't think it would work out in the long run. Their morals and the ways they try to accomplish their goals are too different. Although Lance undoubtedly cares for her and definitely has the capacity for good, the fact remains that he is a bully who doesn't seem to mind hurting the people she cares about, which I don't imagine being something she would look for in a boyfriend.
9/19/2012 #91 ReportI know it's been two years, and I don't know if there's anyone still paying attention to this fandom (I hope there is :( ), but I'm on my third nostalgia kick of the year watching X-Men Evolution again, fic bunnies are nibbling at my brain, and I thought I might as well post.
FIRST, I want to say that, regrettably, I never saw the later seasons, so I can only comment for up to Season 2.
FAVORITE CHARACTERS (in no particular order past #1).
1. Rogue, like most people. I just love the way the character is portrayed in this series, because she's such a complex and nuanced character - orders of magnitude beyond the movie-verse Rogue, which I thought was kind of flat and uninteresting. Rogue in Evo...she's hot, first of all. Second, she's tough, she's got attitude, but there's also a vulnerability to her character, especially in the first couple of seasons, which you can link to her upbringing and her powers. Quite possibly my all-time favorite line EVER in this series is one of hers, in Season 1's Turn of the Rogue:
"Some friendly advice, teach: Don't mess with the Rogue!" *blasts the crap out of Mystique using Scott's powers*
So awesome...
2. Beast. I just love Hank McCoy in this series(actually, in general), he's great. He's a genius, he's funny, and come on, the guy kicks a** in a snowball fight.
3. Kurt. Gotta love the fuzzy dude. He's funny, he's got a pretty kickass set of powers, and I just like him. Also, even though it's irrelevant to the grand scheme of things, I LOVE the whole subplot with him and that classmate of his. Girl is kind of attracted to the new kid. Girl finds out he's furry, blue, and can teleport...Likes him even more. I just rewatched that episode last night and I went "Aaaw, that's so sweet."
4. I can't believe I'm saying this given how much I hated him in the movies, but Cyclops ranks in my top five favorite characters, because even though he's a bit dim at times and kind of a j*** in some episodes, he's a much more fleshed out and interesting character than he was in the movies. Especially in his interactions with Alex(him I don't like much.
5. No X-Men top five list is complete without Wolverine, and as much as I absolutely love Hugh Jackman in the movies...he's getting way too much attention. Which is one of the things I liked about XME is that Wolverine doesn't hog the spotlight as much. He kicks a** when he's around, but he only gets a handful of episodes to himself. Plus I love the black/orange costume he wears in the first couple of seasons.
PAIRINGS.
Hmm...pairings, pairings, pairings...None that really stick in my mind per se. I'm torn on Kitty, because I like her with Kurt, but as I mentioned I love the Kurt/Amanda angle too, and I sorta thought her and Lance were kind of cute together in the episode where the poor guy tried to join the X-Men in Season 2 and bailed. Which I thought kind of sucked because as much of a j***-off as Lance was especially in S1, he seemed to get better in S2, and I kind of wish they'd continued that trend, it would've made for interesting storytelling.
Well no, I'm lying. There is one that I like, and it's sort of a semi-cracky pairing, but I like it anyway. Scott/Rogue. I dunno why, but I found their interactions in On Angel's Wings absolutely adorable - how Rogue, who has never really been seen to socialize with anyone other than Kitty, went out of her way to get Scott a Christmas present, and just everything else...Also, in Power Surge, I mean to me it was clear as day WHY she did it. Not for Jean - she did it for Scott. Because clearly, she has a major thing for him, and he of course is totally oblivious. I'm sure eventually she gets over that, since Scott clearly has a thing for Jean and is oblivious to more or less anything else (Watch how awkward he gets around what's-her-name in Shadow Dance)
That's really it.
