Lost Champion
"IF I SEE ONE MORE F*** ZUBAT…I'M GOING TO LOSE IT!"
"ROY! Don't use such language in front of the Elric brothers!"
"M***f***"
"I think it's too late for that Alex!"
"Alphonse Elric, when we reach Oreburgh City, I'm making you eat a bar of soap!" Riza yelled.
The small group ducked behind a large rock to catch their breath as they reached the halfway point in the tunnel. Ever since they stepped inside they had been chased by a horde of Zubat.
"Those things…they're…infinite…" Alex panted.
"Any ideas?"
"Anyone have a bug zapper?" Roy asked sarcastically.
Riza face palmed. "Of course! I'm an idiot! Shinx! I choose you!"
Shinx appeared with a burst of light and looked at her expectantly.
"Shinx…SPARK!"
"Wait! Let us get out of the way-"
BOOM!
The Zubat horde flew off slightly crispy, leaving the Amestrians on the ground twitching from Shinx's Spark.
"That…was a good idea…" Roy said with his leg twitching.
"Yeah…If only we didn't get hit at the same time." Alex added.
Miles groaned as he sat up. "Wait…we've short one Fullmetal Alchemist."
Al looked around frantically. "Brother? Brother?"
"Darn it Fullmetal! I'm not going spelunking!" Roy yelled.
"Hey! Down here!"
The group looked around then down to see that Ed had fallen into a crevice, but he was not alone. They were surprised to see Ed holding an injured Pokémon. It's looked like a small yellow and brown fox looked like it had been on the losing end of a spar with Izumi.
"Ed! What did you do to that Pokémon?" Al asked.
"NOTHING! It was already down here!" Ed yelled.
"How did you get down there pipsqueak?"
"OKAY! SERIOUSLY BASTARD! THE SHORT JOKES END NOW! GET US OUT OF HERE!" Ed snapped.
Alex rummaged in his bag and found a rope; he then proceeded to lasso the de-aged teen and yanked him out.
The group ran out of the tunnel before they could be assaulted by the Zubat horde again. It wasn't long before they were able to see Oreburgh City nestled in the mountainous region of Sinnoh.
"Wow, this place is almost as big as Jubilife." Al said as they walked down the street to the Pokémon Center.
"Hey, according to this, there is a museum here that specializes in restoring Fossil Pokémon."
"Fossil Pokémon?" Ed asked in confusion as they entered the Pokémon center. Nurse Joy was talking to a young man wearing a miner's outfit and an orange hard hat.
"Oh my! What happened to that Abra?" Nurse Joy asked when she saw the tiny fox like Pokémon in Ed's arms.
"I found him like this in a crevice." Ed replied as he handed the injured Pokémon to Chansey who met them quickly with a stretcher.
The young miner frowned. "That's the third Pokémon to have been attacked in the tunnel recently…and Abra aren't even native to Mt. Coronet, you're more likely to find them north of Solecon Town."
"This happened before?" Alex asked.
"Yes, after the incident with Cynthia's disappearance, a bunch of weird events have happened in the mountain." Roark stated, getting Miles' attention.
"You're right Roark." Nurse Joy replied. "My sister in Eterna City said that the same has happened in the forest closest to the mountain."
The Amestrians all exchanged a look.
"But never mind that now; let's take a look at your Pokémon." Nurse Joy stated. "I'm sure all of you need a good night sleep, you look like you were running from a horde of Zubat."
"Thank you." They replied as they gave her their Pokémon.
Roark suddenly exclaimed when he saw Zweilous. "I thought you all looked familiar! You're the trainers that fought Team Rocket in Jubilife City!"
A few minutes later the Amestrians were wandering around Oreburgh. Ed had gone to the museum to see about getting his fossil restored, Al wanted to look at the stores with Alex. Miles had gone to take a look around the library for more information about Mt. Coronet, and Roy…Roy was just wandering the city with Riza following to keep him out of trouble.
"Come one! Come all! Try your luck and win a prize!" shouted a very buxom brunette partnered with a purple monkey with a large hand on its tail.
Roy winked at Riza. "Care to take a shot?"
Riza smirked. "Well if you want to."
"How much for a try?" Roy asked.
"Just a 100 Poke and you can take a spin." The lady replied.
Roy flipped a coin onto the counter and spun the dial. It landed on a 1.
"Congratulations! You've won a Pokémon egg!" the lady cheered. The crowd applauded as Roy was handed a dusty brown egg.
'An egg? So it would be a bird or reptile right?' Roy thought in confusion as he accepted the incubator containing the egg.
"What about you Miss?"
"Sure, why not?" Riza said as she handed her the 100 Poke and spun the dial. It stopped on a 3.
"Congratulations; you've won the latest Pokémon Horoscope book."
"Oh, thank you." Riza replied as she accepted the book.
"I didn't know that you were interested in that kind of stuff."
"I'm not, but it would make some nice reading material." Riza replied.
That night the group reassembled for dinner. They were chatting about their trip.
"So what are we going to do about the Gym battle? I asked Nurse Joy and she said that its 3 on 3." Ed asked.
"I though you went to get that fossil of yours restored." Roy commented.
"I did, but the lab said it wouldn't be ready until tomorrow afternoon."
"I already took care of that." Miles spoke up. "I ran into Roark again, after explain to him of our situation he agreed to battle two of us at the same time 2 on 2."
"Just two?"
Roy pensively chewed on his rice. "Well…Chimchar and Magikarp…won't be of much use against Rock types. Especially if it's a land battle. Your Zweilous is a shoo in Miles, it has the best shot against Roark's powerhouse."
Miles nodded. He saw Rampardos, Zweilous could definitely match it in terms of strength.
"Turtwig and Budew might…" Alex added in. "However Budew doesn't know but one offensive move."
"Piplup defiantly would be a good match up." Riza commented.
"Aron can do it." Ed stated.
They all raised a brow.
"What?"
Ed grinned evilly. "Turns out…Aron had a secret move that you would never expect from a steel type. It's very effective against Rock types."
"How effective?'
"Hmm…effective enough to cause confusion." Ed mused as he sipped his juice.
"And Aron is fast enough to outrun his Rampardos…" Al commented. "I think Miles and Ed should battle Roark."
(-o-)
"Attention! This will be a two on two battle between Gym Leader Roark and challengers Miles and Ed! The challengers will only be allowed one Pokémon each while the Gym Leader uses two. Trainers are you ready?"
"Ready!" he three replied.
"Good luck brother!" Al yelled. His Glameow and Shroomish cheered as well.
"Trainers send out your Pokémon!"
"Graveler! Rampardos! I choose you!"
"Zweilous, take the field!"
"Go Aron!"
"BATTLE BEGIN!"
"Graveler use Rock Throw! Rampardos; Zen Headbutt!"
"Aron; use Dig to dodge!"
"Zweilous; dodge it then strike back with Dragon Rage!"
Zweilous moved to the side, allowing Rampardos to miss then attacked it from behind.
"We could use your secret move now Ed!"
"No problem!" Ed grinned. "ARON; USE WATER PULSE!"
"WHAT?"
Aron burst out of the ground and fired off a blue orb from its mouth.
Graveler was hit full on and started to spin around before falling over.
"Graveler is unable to battle!"
"Return Graveler. Impressive, I knew that Aron could learn Water Pulse, but I never actually seen one that could." Roark praised.
"Turns out Aron tried to hide it from me too." Ed replied with a smirk. "But he does tend to be competitive."
"Rampardos use Take Down."
Zweilous took the hit full on but managed to stop Rampardos by bracing its feet into the ground.
"Aron grab Rampardos' tail and throw it!" Ed shouted.
The little metal pokemon complied and tossed Rampardos with ease.
"DRAGON BREATH!"
"WATER PULSE!"
The twin attacks hit Rampardos with fury. The large ancient Pokémon hit the ground with a thud.
"Rampardos is unable to battle. The victory goes to the challengers; Miles and Ed!"
"They did it!"
"Excellent job!" Alex cheered.
"Way to go!"
(-o-)
"Are you sure the rest of you won't stay to battle?" Roark asked as they went to the museum to pick up Ed's restored fossil.
"Thanks, but those two are more the challenger types." Al replied.
"Besides, we still need to try and find out what happened to Alex's sister."
"Well good look on finding Olivier." Roark replied.
To say the man had been shocked with he heard they were from an alternate world was saying that a Magmar was only a little hot. However his shock was deterred when Ed started to debate rock compositions with him.
"Ah, Ed excellent timing, your Anorith is ready." A professor cheerfully stated as he handed a poke ball to Ed.
"Thank you."
"Anorith?" Roy asked consulting his Pokédex.
Anorith; the Old Shrimp Pokémon. A Pokémon ancestor that was reanimated from a fossil. It lived in the sea and hunted with its claws.
Roy snickered then fell over laughing. "A shrimp for a shrimp!"
"GAH!" Ed roared before tackling the laughing teen.
"Hey, isn't that the Pokémon that you saved in the cave?" Alex asked as a familiar fox faced Pokémon appeared beside Ed's fallen knapsack.
"Yeah, come to think of it, I never scanned it." Ed replied as he activated his Pokédex.
Abra; the Psi Pokémon. Using its psychic powers is such a strain on its brain that it needs to sleep for 18 hours a day.
"It sounds like you." Al deadpanned. "Smart and always sleeping…"
"Shut it Al!" Ed retorted. He then turned to Abra. "I take it you want to come with us?"
Abra nodded. Ed took out a Poke ball and gently tapped Abra with it. Two dings and the capture was successful.
"Now to brave that Zubat horde in the cave again." Riza said almost ominously.
The group nodded darkly, ready to fight their way through the mountain.
"You do know that if you use a Repel from the Poke-mart you can get past them right?" Roark said with a sweat drop.
"…A Repel?"
"It's a spray that prevents wild Pokemon from attacking you for a short time…"
"…"
"…"
"…I guess no one told you that?"
"…"
"No they did not."

Far away in her locked bedroom Cynthia was struggling to deal with a flood of colliding memories.
What's Roy egg going to be? Is the end of the Shrimp jokes? What's happening to Cynthia/Olivier?
