Ash's Pokemon Journey

Summary: This story is about how I think that ash's journey should have gone through, Kanto, Orange Islands, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh and Unova. Smart, a psychic and an Aura user. I do not own pokemon.

Note: I am not doing the Kalos Region. So fairy pokemon and Mega Evolutions don't exist.

Chapter 153

The Twinleaf Festival

Today the gang were going to visit Dawn's home Twinleaf Town. A couple of days ago Dawn found out the festival Twinleaf Town held once a year was coming up and her mum was going to be the chairperson this year. So of course Dawn wanted to go back home for the festival and the boys agreed; they wanted to see what Dawn's hometown was life.

Once they got there the boys were amazed how nice and peaceful Twinleaf Town was. Ash thought it was like being back in Pallet Town. Along the way to Dawn's house the gang met up with three of Dawn's neighbours. A man named Sayer and a husband and wife named Izzy and Cara. Sayer, Izzy and Cara were in charge of sorting out booths for the Twinleaf Festival, but it was impossible for Sayer to work with Izzy and Cara. Izzy and Cara were the type of people who had trouble agreeing with anything. Dawn introduced the boys and her Piplup to her neighbours and explained they were here for the festival.

Once the gang reached Dawn's house, Dawn rushed in right away and called out to her mum. "You're home earlier than I thought Dawn," said Johanna "and Ash, Brock and Tomo it's very nice to see you. You boys make yourself right at home and welcome to Twinleaf Town". "Thanks very much" said Ash, Tomo and Brock together. Johanna was also happy to meet Piplup at last. Piplup noticed Johanna's Glameow and her other pokemon Umbreon, who had been standing next to Johanna the whole time. Piplup greeted them but Glameow and Umbreon weren't interested, much to Piplup's depression.

Just then a girl came down the stairs, telling Johanna the bedrooms were ready. The girl's name was Noelle and she was an old friend of Dawn's. She was even a student of Johanna's; Johanna gave classes to trainers who wish to become a pokemon coordinator, and Noelle was one of them. Noelle has a Bellosom. "You look great Dawn," said Noelle I take it you're enjoying your pokemon journey". "Yes I am," said Dawn "and look at the ribbons I have". She showed her four ribbons to Noelle. "I only need one more now". "You're defiantly working hard" smiled Noelle.

Ash noticed all of the trophies Johanna had won from contests in the past and all her old photos. "Look at all of this" said Ash. Dawn explained to Ash despite her mum doesn't enter pokemon contests anymore she gives classes to pokemon coordinators and also has contest battles with her students. That gave Dawn an idea and she asked her mum if they could have a contest battle together. She wanted to show her mum how hard she and Piplup had been working together. Johanna saw no reason to say no and accepted her daughter's challenge. But first Johanna had made some lunch and suggested the gang had it first before it went cold. Ash and Tomo were hungry and couldn't wait for that. Johanna also had Noelle show Brock and Ash where they would be sleeping; the gang were to stay at Dawn's house while they were in Twinleaf Town.

It wasn't long till the gang started digging into Johanna's food. To them it was delicious. "So Brock I hear you're a great chef yourself" said Johanna. "Well it's due to having to cook all the time" said Brock. Brock had made pokemon food for the pokemon, including Glameow and Umbreon. Johanna was impressed her pokemon were eating the food because they were picky eaters. After lunch Ash phoned Prof Oak and told him where he was. Johanna revealed Prof Oak was going to visit Twinleaf Town during the festival as a special guest and give a talk. Delia, who was at Prof Oak's lab, talked next and asked Johanna to take care of her sons and make sure they don't cause any trouble.

Later on Johanna and Dawn were just about to get ready to have their battle, but then Sayer, Izzy and Cara turned up. They needed Johanna's help. Izzy and Cara were making it hard for Sayer to decide which food booth should go where by not making up their minds over and over. Johanna knew how hard it was to work with Izzy and Cara, so she had to help sort them out. She apologized to Dawn and promised they could have the battle later after she finished with the plans for the festival. Dawn didn't mind; this meant she could plan out her battle with Piplup. Ash decided to explore around Twinleaf Town. Brock and Tomo stayed behind.

Ash and Pikachu went off into a small forest next to Twinleaf Town and they saw some wild pokemon. They saw some Sunfloras and a Ledyba. "There must lots of different wild pokemon living around here" Ash said to Pikachu. Pikachu agreed. Suddenly Ash noticed some rustling in a tree and was just about to see what it was till he was stopped by a voice. "Don't go that way please" the voice said. The voice belonged to a boy named Nathaniel and he was hiding behind a bush. Ash and Pikachu went behind the bush and Nathaniel explained he had put some honey on the tree to observe wild pokemon. Nathaniel was a boy who couldn't wait to become a pokemon trainer and have some pokemon of his own. He reminded Ash of himself when he wanted to become a pokemon trainer before he turned ten. Suddenly the boys spotted a Heracross and Nathaniel was delighted to see one. Bug type pokemon were his favourite. Ash decided to tell Nathaniel about his Heracross and his other bug pokemon.

Back at Dawn's house Dawn was discussing some battle plans with Piplup and Pachirisu; she had decided to use Piplup and Pachirisu for her battle against her mum. Just then Pachirisu noticed something on top of the tv. There was a photo frame with newspaper pictures of Dawn from past contests and the Hearthome collection. Dawn was happy to see her mum had kept and framed some newspaper clippings about her and so were Piplup and Pachirisu. Tomo, who was also in the house, was staring at Johanna's photos and trophies. "Hey Dawn," he said "I see lots of pictures of you and your mum, but how come I don't see any photos of your dad?" Dawn frowned; she hadn't told the gang about her dad yet and now was the good time to tell Tomo. "That's because he and my mum divorced when I was really little because he abandoned us to live and work somewhere else," said Dawn "my mum doesn't like to think and talk about him because of that, which is why there are no photos of him around. Truthfully I still have a photo of him, which I've kept hidden in my room, but I never let her know because it would make her upset". Tomo understood and promised to keep it a secret and so did Piplup and Pachirisu. At that moment Johanna came into the house. She had finished sorting out the festival with Sayer, Izzy and Cara and now it was time for Johanna and Dawn to have their battle.

Out in the back of Dawn's house was a battlefield. Johanna had it for her pokemon coordinator classes. Ash had come back by now and he was standing on the side lines with Brock, Noelle and Tomo. Dawn and Johanna took their places on the battlefield. Glameow and Umbreon were ready to battle and so were Piplup and Pachirisu. "Finally a showdown between mother and daughter" said Noelle. Johanna told Dawn to start and show what she could do.

Dawn started by telling Piplup to use whirlpool and Pachirisu to use discharge. While Piplup released a whirlpool, Pachirisu released a discharge on the whirlpool, making it an electrical whirlpool. "Glameow, Umbreon dodge it and give me a double quick attack" said Johanna. Glameow and Umbreon both used quick attack to dodge the whirlpool. Then they both used shadow ball which broke the whirlpool apart and hit Piplup and Pachirisu. "Man am I impressed" said Ash. He noticed that Glameow and Umbreon were indeed very strong pokemon. Dawn wasn't defeated yet and told her pokemon to do plan A. Plan A was Piplup making a wall of bubbles with bubblebeam and then Pachirisu jumped out the bubbles as a surprise and attacked Glameow and Umbreon with super fang. Johanna was impressed but she wasn't defeated yet either. She told Glameow and Umbreon to use attract and both Piplup and Pachirisu were attracted by the attract attack. Piplup and Pachirisu couldn't do anything now. "Let's finish this," said Johanna "now Umbreon and Glameow give me a double swift attack". Glameow and Umbreon fired swift attack together and Piplup and Pachirisu were hit by the stars. The poor pokemon were defeated at once, so Johanna was the winner of the battle.

Dawn was a bit disappointed but she was happy she got to battle her mum at last. Johanna was impressed with how Dawn worked together with Piplup and Pachirisu. So with the battle between Dawn and her mum all done with, the gang could now look forward to the Twinleaf Festival in Twinleaf Town.

The next day there was excitement in the air at Dawn's house because not only was the festival starting soon but Prof Oak was coming today as a special guest to do a lecture on pokemon. Ash couldn't wait to see Prof Oak again and Dawn couldn't wait to meet him in person. But Prof Oak hadn't turned up into Twinleaf Town yet. Izzy and Cara were worried that something had happened to him and Johanna was worried he may not turn up in time. The gang offered to go look for Prof Oak. "I bet Prof Oak had found an incredible pokemon on the way here and he stopped to examine it;" said Ash "he always does that. Whenever something excites him he forgets to concentrate on what he's supposed to do". "That's Prof Oak for you" said Brock, who also understood what Prof Oak was like.

What had happened was the taxi which was bringing Prof Oak got a flat tyre and the driver had to replace it. Prof Oak was admiring the marsh lands and wanted to check out the pokemon that lived there. As Prof Oak started to walk into the marshlands, the gang turned up and they noticed him walking away. "Oh no that marshland is said to be full of quick sand!" cried Dawn. "Then we better go after him and bring him back now" said Ash.

Meanwhile Prof Oak was admiring the marshland and noticed a Poliwhirl. Then a Politoed came out of the long grass and it saw Prof Oak. Politoed clicked its fingers and out came two Quagsires. The Quagsires picked up Prof Oak and they walked off with Politoed. At that moment the gang turned up and they saw the Quagsires carrying Prof Oak. "Hey what are those pokemon doing to Prof Oak?" asked Tomo. "I don't know, but it doesn't look like they are attacking him" said Ash. "Something must be wrong" said Brock. They ran after Prof Oak.

Meanwhile Johanna, Izzy and Cara were getting worried about Prof Oak still not turning up for his lecture. Lots of children were waiting in the town hall. "What shall we do?" said Cara "Prof Oak has still not turned up and the children will be so disappointed if he doesn't". Johanna decided to give a talk about some pokemon herself till Prof Oak arrives, that way the children won't have to keep on waiting so much. She had faith that her daughter and her friends will turn up with Prof Oak soon.

Meanwhile the gang had lost track of Prof Oak. "Where could Prof Oak have gone?" said Dawn. The boys were about to walk forward to search for Prof Oak, but Dawn stopped them to remind them about the quick sands. "Okay time to put my aura to good use again" said Ash. He used his aura power to locate where it was safe to walk. "Okay everyone follow my lead" said Ash. He started to lead the group, making sure to check where it was safe. But then Piplup walked ahead of Ash; the silly pokemon was confident he knew where it was safe, but of course he didn't know. Piplup suddenly got caught in quicksand and Ash quickly got him out with his psychic power. "Piplup," said Ash, crossly, "when I say follow my lead you do as you are told. You clearly don't have the instinct to tell where there is quicksand". He gave Piplup back to Dawn and told her to keep hold of him till they found Prof Oak so he doesn't cause anymore trouble. "Sorry Piplup but we need to do what Ash says and just follow him" said Dawn. Piplup sulked; he was still a stubborn pokemon that wouldn't admit that there were a lot of things he couldn't do, and hated it when he couldn't be in charge. Thanks to Ash's aura the gang got through the marshlands safely and they came across a small cave, where they believed Prof Oak was taken to.

Suddenly the Politoed and Quagsires came out of the cave and they saw the gang at once. Pikachu got his electricity ready to fight, but Ash quickly stopped him. Ash walked over to the water pokemon. "Excuse me," he said, bravely, "you took our friend Prof Oak into the cave with you. Can I ask why?" Politoed started to talk. "What's Politoed saying?" asked Dawn. "It's saying it needed someone to help its friend in the cave" answered Ash. "Ah so something has happened" said Brock.

The gang followed Politoed and the Quagsires into the cave. Prof Oak was standing next to a Lombre, which looked really miserable. "Prof Oak there you are" said Ash, when he saw him. "Well hello there Ash" said Prof Oak. "We were worried about you" said Dawn. "Is everything okay?" asked Brock. "Oh I'm alright but this Lombre isn't" said Prof Oak. The gang saw the Lombre. "What's wrong with Lombre? It looks completely miserable" said Ash. Politoed started to talk. "It seems Politoed wants me to do something to lift its spirits up" said Prof Oak. "That's amazing," said Dawn "I mean I know Ash can understand pokemon because of his aura. But you don't have the power of aura too do you Professor?" "No I don't have the same power as Ash," said Prof Oak "but I just open my heart, join it with a pokemon's heart, and then you understand its feelings, simple really". "I remember you telling me things like this back before I became a pokemon trainer Prof Oak" said Ash. Prof Oak explained that Politoed noticed that he had a water stone with him and took out the stone from his pocket. "I remember water stones make Lombre evolve into Ludicolo" said Tomo. "That is correct Tomo," said Prof Oak "Politoed is the leader of the marshland you see and it wants to make this timid Lombre evolve. I brought this stone with me because my lecture is about pokemon evolution and evolutionary stones". Prof Oak gave Politoed the stone and Politoed presented the stone to Lombre. Lombre touched the stone and started to glow. Everyone watched as Lombre evolved into Ludicolo. Ludicolo became a jolly pokemon right away and everyone was happy to see the pokemon was happy again. Just then Dawn noticed on her poketch that it was getting late and they had to get to the town hall fast. Prof Oak quickly said goodbye to the pokemon while he was being dragged away by Ash.

Back at the town hall Johanna was still talking to the children about some pokemon, but then the gang turned up with Prof Oak. "Sorry I'm late," said Prof Oak "the taxi got a flat tyre and I ended up helping some wild pokemon". "Well at least you are here now and you can give your lecture on pokemon and evolutionary stones at last" said Johanna. And so Prof Oak gave his lecture and everyone enjoyed listening to it, including Johanna and the gang.

That was a fun way to start the Twinleaf Festival.

The gang were enjoying the Twinleaf Festival. Dawn and Ash were enjoying the food from the stalls and Tomo was enjoying the game booths. He had won a lot of prizes. During the festival they met Barry, who had come back to Twinleaf Town for the festival. But Barry wasn't the only one who turned up; Lucas had turned up as well. Despite living in Sandgem Town, Lucas still liked attending the annual Twinleaf Festival and Johanna and Lucas's mum had been friends for a long time. They were also friends with Barry's dad.

Ash noticed there was someone else he knew at the Twinleaf Festival; it was Matt. "Matt what are you doing here?" asked Ash. "Ah I came here to enjoy the Twinleaf Festival," answered Matt "I also wanted to witness the Festival Battle Challenge". The festival battle challenge was a main event of the Twinleaf Festival that was going to happen tomorrow. Ash was going to enter it and so was Dawn, Tomo, Barry and Lucas. "I can't wait to see Palmer in action tomorrow" said Matt. "Palmer?" said Ash. "Palmer is my dad" said Barry. "He is also the final frontier brain you will need to challenge Ash" said Matt. "Oh you've got more of the frontier plaques Ash?" said Lucas. Ash showed off his four frontier plaques and said he only needed one more. "I don't believe it," said Barry, in surprise, "hmph well you won't be able to beat dad that's for sure". "We'll see about that" said Ash. Johanna explained that whoever wins the battle challenge tomorrow will get to battle Palmer as a prize. That was really something to look forward to tomorrow. For the rest of the day the gang, Barry and Lucas enjoyed the festivals, caught up with stories about whatever it was everyone had been doing and Ash and Barry had some quick pokemon battles to warm up for tomorrow. (I'm not doing the Xatu forest part because I didn't like that)

Just after Barry and Ash had finished a battle a yellow haired man came up to them and said they did a great job battling there. It was Palmer. "Dad it's you" said Barry. "Barry I knew you would be here for the Twinleaf Festival," said Palmer "and you must be Ash. Matt told me about you". "Matt told me you were the fifth frontier brain Palmer" said Ash. "That is correct," said Palmer "I'm the frontier brain of the Battle Tower, which is in Sunnyshore city". "Well I defiantly will head over there to earn the last frontier plaque from you Palmer" said Ash. "I look forward to that myself Ash" said Palmer, with a laugh. The citizens of Twinleaf Town were delighted to see Palmer back in town because they were all fans of his.

That evening the gang were helping Johanna with dinner. "Do Dawn did you meet Palmer?" asked Johanna. "I sure did," answered Dawn "hey Ash and Tomo, isn't it exciting either one of us will get to battle Palmer tomorrow?" "Sure is," said Ash "and this will give me a chance to see what Palmer's battling style is like before I challenge him at the Battle Tower". Brock revealed that he was entering the battle challenge as well because he didn't want to miss out on the fun.

The next day it was the last day of the festival and it was time for the festival battle challenge. Johanna was all dressed up and she did an opening performance with her Glameow and Umbreon. Next she introduced Palmer and Matt, who volunteered to be the judge of the festival tournament. Then she explained the rules; the rule for the tournament was the challengers were to face each other in a one on one pokemon battle. Then Johanna explained that the winner of the tournament would not only get to battle Palmer, they would also get a gold trophy. Barry, Lucas and the gang had trouble controlling their excitement, especially since only one of them would battle Palmer.

The Festival challenge soon started and everyone began their pokemon battling. Ash was using Pikachu, Tomo Growlithe, Dawn Piplup, Barry Empoleon and Lucas Infernape. In the end Ash became the winner of the festival challenge and got the chance to battle Palmer. Dawn, Barry and Tomo were upset of their losses and were stuffing their faces with Octillery snacks.

Palmer released a Rhyperior. "Rhyperior is one of my dad's strongest pokemon" said Barry. "Ash knows how strong a Rhyperior can be because he has one himself" said Brock. Ash didn't have a water type pokemon on him right now, but he did have a pokemon that would work against Rhyperior. He sent out Grotle. "Rhyperior is weak against grass pokemon, so Grotle is a good choice" said Lucas. "Ah but Ash still won't be able to defeat it" said Barry, confidently.

Ash started off by telling Grotle to use energy ball and the attack hit Rhyperior, but the attack didn't do much. "Rhyperior's ability is solid rock;" said Barry "it reduces damage from super effective attacks". Palmer was impressed, but now it was his turn to attack. He ordered Rhyperior to use rock polish; a move that raises a pokemon's speed. So now Rhyperior could move very quick. Then Rhyperior used sandstorm and Grotle was trapped by the sandy twister. As Grotle couldn't do anything at the moment, Rhyperior moved in by attacking Grotle with rock wrecker. Despite rock wrecker is a rock type move, poor Grotle still got hurt by the attack. Good thing was after using rock wrecker; Rhyperior had to recover for a bit before it could attack again. This gave Ash the chance to have Grotle recover with synthesis, and after that Ash told Grotle to use solar beam. Thanks to the sun being out, Grotle didn't need to charge up. The solar beam broke the sandstorm apart and hit Rhyperior. Barry couldn't believe Grotle's solar beam did that and Lucas was impressed. Palmer was impressed too, but of course he and Rhyperior weren't backing down yet. "Now megahorn" Palmer said to Rhyperior. Rhyperior was able to attack now, and as Grotle was weak to bug moves megahorn was the best attack for Rhyperior to use. "Grotle counter that with energy ball" said Ash. Unfortunately for Ash Rhyperior could still move fast thanks to rock polish, so Rhyperior charged at Grotle while Grotle was still storing an energy ball attack. Rhyperior's horn made Grotle swallow the energy ball by mistake. But instead of Grotle taking damage from that, Grotle was gaining some energy from it and the bushes on his back were glowing green. Everyone was surprised with what was happening especially Ash because he had never seen anything like this before. Dawn was interested by this and thought it might be good use for a contest. Palmer ordered Rhyperior to attack with rock wrecker and Ash ordered Grotle to use rock climb. Rhyperior ended up on top of Grotle's mountain, thanks to Grotle's rock climb, and Grotle charged straight towards Rhyperior dodging the rock wrecker attack. Then Grotle and Rhyperior started tackling each other to try and push each other back. Because Grotle had swallowed the energy ball and gained energy from it, he felt stronger than he normally did. "Quick Grotle use giga drain" said Ash. A green energy came out of Grotle's bushes and the energy attached itself to Rhyperior and started draining Rhyperior's energy. "Giga drain is a grass type move, so Rhyperior will take a lot of damage" said Brock. It really did look like Grotle would win this battle. Barry still couldn't believe that Ash was giving his Dad a really tough battle and decided to fine him. It was then Palmer ordered Rhyperior to use hammer arm. Poor Grotle got hit really hard by the hammer arm. Then the mountain from Grotle's rock climb vanished and then Grotle fainted on the ground in defeat. Palmer had won the battle.

"You see I told you my dad would win" boasted Barry. "And it was so close for Ash too" sighed Dawn. "But Ash doesn't seem down about it though" said Brock. It was true because Ash told Grotle that he did a great job without looking the least bit upset. Palmer walked up to Ash with the gold trophy. "Our battle was a lot of fun," he said "that energy ball thing caught me off guard". "Well to be honest with you I was surprised by that myself because I had never seen anything like that before" said Ash. Matt walked over to Ash. "You and your Grotle were terrific Ash," he said "I can't wait to see more when you battle Palmer at the Battle Tower in Sunnyshore City". "I look forward to that myself," said Palmer "but now I congratulate you for winning the battle challenge and I also present to you with this trophy". Ash was happy to have won the gold trophy and so was Pikachu and Grotle. Johanna thanked Palmer and Ash for the amazing battle and brought the Festival battle challenge to a close.

That night the Twinleaf Festival was coming to an end. It was almost time for the song and dancing of the festival. Barry and Lucas were talking to the gang. "So Ash what did you think about while challenging my dad?" said Barry. "Well one thing for sure is he is a lot stronger than Thorton, Dahlia, Darach and Argenta ever were," said Ash "so no doubt I will need to train my pokemon some more if I want to beat him at the Battle Tower". "Well I'll be looking forward to the day when you do challenge my dad and I will be there waiting for you to see the challenge" said Barry. Barry suddenly went off to sing the last song of the festival; to him it was a tradition for him to sing the final song of the festival. "Hey Ash you remember what happened with Grotle when he ate the energy ball?" said Dawn "well seeing that makes me think I will try doing something like that too in the next pokemon contest". "Yes and you know I think I will do that again with Grotle in battles myself" said Ash.

Just then Matt and Palmer turned up. "Since you will be coming to Sunnyshore City to battle me Ash," said Palmer "I thought I should let you know there is a gym there too. I'm you're your battling skills will give the gym leader there quite the shock". "What do you mean by shock?" asked Ash. "You'll see" said Palmer. It sounded like Palmer knew the Sunnyshore Gym leader well and there was something about him only Palmer knew about. Everyone enjoyed the festival till it came to an end.

The next day the gang decided it was now time to get back on the road, now the Twinleaf Festival was over. Lucas said goodbye to the gang too. Johanna told the gang to take care of themselves and bid them farewell too. As for Barry; he decided to get to Sunnyshore City too to earn the gym badge from the gym and of course to wait for Ash for when he battles Palmer at the Battle Tower.

Sorry for the wait. I did say I would have Lucas appear again and I'll have him appear again in like 2 or 3 chapters, just not sure which ones yet. As Palmer was going to be at the festive battle challenge, I thought this would be a good idea to have Matt in. Dawn should have at least tried to discipline Piplup more in the anime. I'm going to have Grotle do the swallow the energy ball for more power thing later especially after it evolves to Torterra, which in my opinion Ash should've done in the anime especially when he faced Paul with Torterra. Sorry if readers wanted Ash to defeat Palmer in the festival challenge, but I decided to leave Ash's triumph against Palmer when he battles him at the battle tower; besides during the battle challenge he has learnt what type of battler Palmer is.

About Dawn's father; of course I have no idea about Dawn's father in the anime, because the anime doesn't reveal anything. So I decided to have Dawn's parents divorced because with Johanna never talking about Dawn's father in the anime, well divorce is the only excuse I could make off. In my story I've decided to have Ash's father dead. Whenever I get to have doing a Kalos story Serena's father will be alive but she doesn't see him much because he is a researcher travelling all over the world.

I'm happy the pokemon anime has started releasing new episodes again; it wasn't easy waiting for the past seven weeks since 19th April.
