Chapter 21
Maid Café
"Natsu" I say I my dangerous Lucy voice, the one that usually has him cowering at the very tone in my voice.
"Y-Yes," he answers back, sensing the danger in my voice.
"Didn't we agree that it was my turn to pick out the mission?" I ask.
He nods reluctantly, with nervous jerks of the head.
"Then why is there a mission in your hand? A mission I most certainly didn't choose?" I ask, ticked off.
"But . . . but . . . Lucy!" he whines.
"No buts! It is my turn to pick out the mission. In fact, I already have it picked out," I inform him, not letting him choose another one of our missions. Our missions, not his missions, OUR missions. Sometimes he forgets that we are a team, and that means that his partner has a say in things. It wouldn't be a problem if we thought alike, and we wanted to go on the same missions, but no, Natsu is crazy. He always manages to choose the most dangerous ones! The ones that destroy all my clothes. I can barely afford rent and keeping my kitchen stocked for all of Natsu's raids. But now my clothing expenses are slowly drowning me due to them always being destroyed during missions. It's not just the enemies that destroy my clothes, I swear, half of the time it is Natsu that ends of destroying my clothes with his fire.
"But . . . but . . . Lucy!" he whines again, really wanting to go on this mission. Tough luck, I'm not giving in this time, not again.
"No, it is my turn. Lucky for you, this mission is in town and is only supposed to last for a day. If we get back before the mission is taken, then we can go on it, but not now," I tell him in no uncertain terms, not backing down.
"Okay," he says sadly, looking like a kicked puppy in a way that only he could replicate.
It takes all my control not to give in to that cute sad face of his. But I remind myself that this mission if for good money, is easy, and it is most importantly very unlikely for Natsu to break anything.
"I have already informed Mira, so go put the mission back,' I order him.
He nods sadly and slouches off to put the mission back, all his previous enthusiasm drained out of him.
For a second my control waivers and I almost call him back to tell him that we'll go on his mission instead, but money signs start flashing in front of my eyes. I can't afford to humor him this time.
He sullenly follows me out the guide, not saying a word. Not used to this silence from him, I immediately try to fill the silence.
"Do you want to know what the mission is?" I ask, trying to infuse some of my excitement into him.
"Why not?" He says uncaring, obviously not catching my enthusiasm. Stupid Natsu! Why do you always have to be so stubborn?
"We're going to be helping out the owner of a restaurant. This is their first day, the grand opening of the restaurant and he wants to make sure to catch people eyes and leave a good impression," I tell him.
"Uh-huh," he says, no longer listening.
I frown. I know this isn't exactly his cup of teas, but he could at least try and not bring me down with him. I go on missions all the time that I do not want to go on, but I still go with little attitude, well . . at least according to me. Trust me; I can be a lot worst. I could make Erza seem like an Angel that picks flowers, plays with puppies and out patience's Mira.
"That means you have to be on your best behavior today. It is important that you don't lose your temper, break things destroy stuff, be rude to the people, and you cannot eat the food. We are here to help, not hinder," I lecture him, annoyed at his attitude.
"Whatever," he grumbles.
"Natsu," I say in my low warning voice.
"Fine!" he snaps, and then goes back to his silent, brooding ways.
I sigh, shaking my head. Who knew that Natsu could get so moody? That's usually my doing.
We walk the rest of the way in silence, thankfully reaching there rather quickly.
Natsu takes one look at the restaurant and slowly turns to me.
"Lucy," he says in a low voice. I knew there was something I forgot to tell him. I must have been distracted by his bad attitude. "Just what sort of restaurant is this?" he asks slowly, as if mentally trying to deny what's in front of him.
"It's a maid café" I say cheerfully, not catching his distraught vibes. I absolutely love restaurants like this, especially the dress up part! It reminds me of our first mission together. Ah . . . fond yet disturbing memories.
"Great" he grumbles, clearly not excited.
I frown Natsu is really acting out of character today. I wonder what's wrong. I would have thought he would be a little more excited about this. He is the one who had me, unnecessarily, dress like a maid on our first mission. He must like them a bit?
Before we head in I remind him. " Remember, your best behavior," I say in my most stern voice before walking into the restaurant.
The owner was waiting for us. He is a decent looking middle-aged man in a butler's outfit.
"Hi, I'm Lucy," I say, "And this is Natsu," I point and shove forward a very reluctant Natsu. "We are the ones who accepted the mission you posted."
"Perfect, I was wondering when you would arrive," the man exclaims, smiling. Wasting no time, the man produces two bags, almost seemingly out of thin air (now who is the mage here?), and ushers us to the bathroom.
"Get changed into these and I will brief you on who to proceed," he informs us.
I pull the outfit out of the bag and out comes . . . the cutest maid outfit I have ever seen!
In almost record speed, I have it on and I'm looking into the mirror.
I absolutely am in love with it! It's the perfect mix of functionality and frivolous. Its base is black with a white frilly apron and white lace around the sleeve and the bottom. The outfit is a bit shorter than I am normally comfortable with, but it is so cute that I it is forgivable. The black knee socks also help to make up for it. But then again, when have I ever been the poster child for modesty? The shorter the better. I'm a women and I can do with my body what I may. Society can't shame me into changing who I am. My body is my property, and the way I respect it is determined by me. Wearing a shorter skirt does not make me any less of a lady, any less respectable, or any less modest. Honestly, I would go out without the knee socks, despite how cute I find them, and feel no shame. I look awesome.
And to top off all the awesome that is already me in this consume, it comes with bunny ears! I look adorable!
I head out to see that Natsu has beaten me out. Shocker there. I do a double take-when I see him.
He is in a butler outfit, like the one that the manager is wearing. He looks so different from usual. Even his hair is slicked back and his scarf is put away somewhere to complete the assemble. I normally don't dig men in suits, they remind me too much of my past and my father, but Natsu wears it very well even though he looks so awkward. I wouldn't mind having him as my butler. My mind briefly declines into fantasy world. What a beautiful world it is.
The second he sees me, his eyes widen and he points at me stuttering. He acts as if this is the first that he has seen me in a maids outfit.
"W-What are you wearing," He manages to stutter out.
"Don't be stupid, you know exactly what I am wearing," I say annoyed.
His face turns red in anger and he growls out, "You can't wear that."
"What are you? My father?" I ask, pissed off. No one tells me what I can and cannot wear. "I'm going to wear this, and I'm not going to hear another peep out of you about it."
"B-but," he tries to argue.
"Not. Another. Word." I force out.
I grab his hand and drag his gaping self to the manager so we could quickly be trained on what to do. That part was quick we both have had restaurant experience before. Your welcome, Natsu.
The first part of the day ran smoothly. There were not that many customers, and it was mostly a quite bunch of people. Lunch though, business really started to pick up and we got crowds of both females and males. Natsu and I were running ourselves crazy to keep up with the demands.
Even though it is busy I am thoroughly enjoying myself. I don't mean to be conceited or anything but I know that I brought the entire male population into the café. I can feel them following me with their eyes. I love it. I knew my sex appeal still worked. Stupid dragon slayer for making me doubt my sexiness.
I peek to where Natsu is working. While I might have brought in the male population it is all too obvious that he brought in the female population. They are staring and fawning after him. Every time he passes a group of them they giggle whisper among themselves and sigh. Stupid girls.
My chest tightens with a heavy feeling before I shake it off and get back to work. I don't have time to be feeling the way I do.
I'm giving a table their orders. It is mostly a table of men my age. I ignore their stares as I am forced to bend over to place their orders on the table.
"Is there anything else I can get you masters?" I ask them plastering my fake smile onto my face.
They say nothing, but leer at me. I frown and turn away, ready to get another's tables orders.
Grab!
I let out a shrill shriek in shock and jump away from the hand that thought it had the right to desecrate my goddess like butt!
I don't mind being looked and ogled at but being touched by a stranger is a whole other story. Honestly society is so fucked up when a man thinks he can touch a women without her permission. It is demeaning, disrespectful, and full out rude and wrong. Don't even get me started; I could rant all day about what is wrong with society.
I turn back to give this person a piece of my mind, when I see an enraged Natsu rushing past me.
Oh no! No way is he going to mess up this experience for me.
I grab his arm before he can pass me.
"Let me go," he growls, pulling at his arms trying to break free.
"Let me deal with this," I demand.
"I'm gonna beat him up! No one touches my Lucy and gets away with it!" He says without looking at me, eye's focused on the culprit.
My heart skips a beat at the 'my Lucy' part, but I know that is not how he meant it.
"If you don't go back I won't forgive you," I threaten him.
"You will in time." He still hasn't looked back at me.
"I will never go on another mission with you again. I will become a solo mage," I threaten, knowing his aversion to me going on missions by myself.
"You don't mean that," he says, finally looking back at me.
"Try me," I dare him.
He gives me a long, hard stare. I give it right back to him.
He looks away first. "Fine, but this conversation isn't over," he warns, still fuming. He throws one last glare at the culprit, before he walks off. If he could throw fire through his eyes, that man would be nothing but a crisp for Natsu to finish off.
I turn to the culprit and give him one of my brightest smiles. "Master, if you don't refrain from touching me and the rest of the staff, I will be forced to throw you out and have you given to the police. And that is only if there is anything left of you to give after my coworker over there if through with you."
His face pales and he nods quickly, mumbling a quick apology, before leaving money and exiting the restaurant.
Satisfied with the outcome, I get back to work.
The rest of the day goes smoothly, though I could definitely feel myself being closely watched by Natsu.
"Thank you for all of your hard work," the owner thanks us, handing us our reward. Our full reward for once.
"No Problem! If you ever need help again, you know who to get," I sat to him, ignoring the derisive snort that Natsu makes.
We are walking home in relative silence when Natsu suddenly pipes up.
"We are never going to do that again," He growls out.
"Natsu," I say in a warning.
Yea," he asks.
"Shut up," I say, ending the conversation.
We walk in silence before he pipes up again.
"I just hate how that guy disrespected you. You should have let me beat him up," he grumbles.
"You have to trust me to be able to take care of myself. I can take care of myself," I tell him. He has to start trusting me a little.
"This isn't about trust. This is about me wanting to take care of you and wishing that you didn't have to deal with that sort of behavior all the time because you are so beautiful," he says passionately, then blushing when he realizes what he said.
A blush forces its way onto my cheek. I look away.
After that we both stew in this awkward silence before he notices the bag in my hand.
"What that you have," he asks.
"The owner of the store was nice enough to let me keep the costume," I say, excitedly.
He stares at me blankly and nods.
"Ow –wait! No, you can't do that! NOOO!," I yell at the bag in my hands catches on fire, and completely burns to ashes before I could do anything about it.
I glare at him, and completely ignore him on the rest of the trip back to the guild. I only asked to keep that maid outfit because I thought Natsu would want to see me in it again. I guess I thought wrong. Stupid Natsu.
Oh, the bunny and her racy clothes. She will forever cause her overprotective dragon worries. He can't stand the thought of anyone touching his bunny, even having others look at her pushes his boundaries. If he could he would lock her away in a castle, like the treasure she is, and devote the rest of his days protecting and cherishing her. How he loved how that outfit looked on her, but he couldn't risk anyone else seeing her in that outfit again, he might actually kill someone then. He would never admit that he was staring at his bunny the entire day, never admit how that outfit made him want to claim her, make him want to let everyone know that she is his. The urge to mark her that day was almost overbearing. Soon, the dragon promised himself. Soon.
