Inuyasha was the first anime series that I ever watched and it still remains one of my favorites today. I quickly found myself drawn to Sesshomaru's character, how his taciturn disposition left us in the dark around his motivations and emotions. Although I watched the anime to support Kagome and Inuyasha, by the time that Final Act aired, my focus had shifted fully to Sesshomaru and his relationships.
The events of Final Act provided insight to some of his actions and through that we got a glimpse into what emotional attachment might be like for him, romantic or otherwise. But I was hardly satisfied with the ending where Rin lives in the village while Sesshomaru drifts around continuing his mysterious ways. I could hardly imagine Rin would stay there forever; when she desired that change, what would happen?
Reaching Across the Milky Way is my best attempt to answer that question in a way that is as realistic and canon-compliant as possible. Over the past eight years, I have enjoyed watching Rin and Sesshomaru turn towards each other and I hope you do as well.
This story is broken into three parts: Thinking in a New Light (Rin's prologue), Reaching Across the Milky Way (main story), and Light at the End of the Day (Sesshomaru's epilogue). The prologue and epilogue are not necessary to understand Milky Way.
This is a story about a young woman growing in a turbulent time, gaining confidence in herself, and learning about love. This is a story about a man who has never answered to anyone, taking responsibility for his actions and the lives of others, while learning to accept love.
And now, I proudly present: Reaching Across the Milky Way.
