Warmth

It was cold that night. I sat it my bed, layers and layers of blankets on my body; my best attempt to keep warm. I shiver and huddle in closer to the blankets, biting my lip against the bitter cold. This was a typical blizzard in the South Pole. Even with the entrance to the igloo counteracting with the freezing breeze, I still felt it. I just wanted the coldness to end, never had I been so freezing in my life.

I held my gloved hands to my hood-covered ears, the howling of the wind outside numbing them. I bit my lip once more and sighed as it drew blood, being so cold. I couldn't imagine how cold it was outside. Igloos raise the temperature from 10-50 degrees. If it was this cold here, I would die if I was outside.

With a cursing shriek, a gust of wind made it's way through, taking snow and all with it. I yelped and flattened myself against the igloo wall, avoiding it in any way possible. The gust blew out the flames in a spine-tingling hiss, leaving me alone in the dark, the temperature dropping even more.

I know I shouldn't cry, it being so cold, but I felt the need to. Here I was, in the pitch dark, wind howling against my ears as my igloo failed to protect me, and bitter cold affecting every part of me. I curled up into a ball on the side of the small cold room and whimpered, trying to find a happier place.

Suddenly, I heard the rustling of someone entering the room. I gasped and turned around, trying to face my intruder. But I couldn't. I still couldn't see anything.

"Wh-who's th-th-there," My teeth chattered, holding my hand out in front of me. A small burst of flame appeared out of nowhere, showing me the outline of my visitor.

It was Aang.

"Aang?" I asked, lowering my hand, returning it to hug myself in a futile attempt at warmth.

"Y-yeah, it's me," The boy muttered, also affected by the bitter cold. He had a Water Tribe coat around him and a heavy one at that. I saw almost no skin on him except for his eyes and eyebrows, which, I noted, were frozen. A hat covered his head and most of his arrow, and a thick scarf was wrapped around his neck. He plopped himself down next to me, his flame still in his hands for warmth and light. I leaned against him, to get closer to the flame and the warmth radiating from his body.

"I-is everyone okay?" I asked, squinting my eyes as another gust of wind made its way in. I shivered.

"Yeah," he responded, pushing back the air with his bending, "I checked in them. I crawled in and called out to them, everyone said they were fine,"

I smiled and whispered, "Good…" laying my head on his shoulder. He looked down at me and smiled as well, wrapping his heavily clothed arms around me, pulling me close.

I laid my head down on his chest as he held me, rubbing my back to keep me warm. He warmed both of our bodies with his firebending, and I was thanking Zuko so much at that moment. I was so glad Zuko taught Aang firebending. My boyfriend continued rubbing my back and holding me close to him, and I could feel my body warming. Suddenly, my eyes felt heavy and they reduced themselves to a half-lidded stare towards the dimly lit igloo. Every part of me felt heavy and I suddenly became extremely tired. I closed my eyes and nuzzled my head closer to him, burying my face in his warm chest. With Aang there-

I was never was cold again…
