AN: For this fic, I have ignored the information provided by the 100% WITCH story arc in the comics as this would clash with my plans for this fic.

There was nothing to suggest to Matt Olsen that his day was going to be anything other than perfectly ordinary. His girlfriend was going to the beach with her friends, he had band practise later today and he had just finished helping his grandfather unload his latest delivery of dog food.

He was also pretty sure that he had not argued or fought with his girlfriend Will or forgotten any important dates.

In short, it was not the kind of day that would have resulted in his being dangled from the top of a tower block by a (somewhat older looking) version of said girlfriend. With wings. Surrounded by older versions of her closest friends Irma, Taranee, Cornelia and Hay Lin.

"Err…Will?" he said with some hesitation. "What's going on…why are you dangling me like this…and when did you develop superpowers?" he asked, somewhat nervously.

Will cackled, jiggling the tied up Matt in a terrifying manner and he gulped. That was a VERY long way down, especially from this angle.

"That's a very good question," Taranee said with a smirk. "Normally, I would give you a solid answer, but as you may have noticed, we're not exactly our normal selves at the moment."

"Oh don't take it personally Matt. It's not you that we're after," Will paused and grinned. "Well not much anyway. It's a long story and one I'm sure you won't want to hear," she paused and jiggled him slightly. "Well, not something you'd have time for anyway."

"I'm sure that it's a good idea to tell me the long version. Come on Will, you don't-"

"Oh I think I do. You could say that I'm…not exactly my normal self right now," Will said with a cackle as she jiggled him slightly further. "You could say that I'm…on something of a high."

"Will, you should leave the jokes to the experts," Irma panned and Cornelia snorted.

"Compared to you, she is," she said and Irma sighed. Even evil Irma and evil Cornelia bickered like an old married couple, Matt thought to himself. It was a somewhat random thought, but at least it kept his mind off the-oh my God, that's a really long way to fall he was currently seeing.

"Oh I think that we're going to have company soon. The right kind. The one we're looking for and not these meaningless drones," Will said as she waved her arms at the gathering of police cars, news reporters and other emergency services. "I'm sure that they'll help us get the message across after all."

"Could you deliver the message some other way? What's wrong with using the post? Or an e-mail? I'm sure that a telephone call would do much better," Matt asked, his voice rising slightly. "Really Will, this is overdoing it a bit, isn't it?"

"Oh I don't think so," she replied and her eyes glinted maniacally. "In fact, I'd say that this is rather…efficient. After all, we're pretty much scheduled to kill you anyway and we really need to get Hay Lin's attention after all."

Matt tried to avoid looking puzzled at this statement. Hay Lin, as far as he could tell, was right up there with them. But if he told them that…well it was a long way down. Way too long.

"Oh they're not talking about me silly!" Hay Lin said cheerfully. "I'm not the Hay Lin they want. They want the real one to come. And then we kill her!" she paused for a moment. "And you of course. Don't want to leave any loose ends after all."

Matt shuddered slightly at the distinctly crazy look in Hay Lin's eyes. They all did really. What was it Taranee had said? They weren't quiet themselves, or something like that?

Maybe they weren't the girls that he knew at all! Or maybe they were being mind controlled or poisoned or something. Admittedly those ideas were crazy, the kind of thing that might appear in superhero comics, but…given current circumstances, crazy really might be appropriate. Or at least a good deal more believable.

Hay Lin#2 scanned the ground below as she flew. It was fairly late in the day and she was pretty sure that she was unlikely to be spotted.

At least that was her reasoning.

The fact that it kept her mind off of the fact that she was hopelessly outnumbered, outgunned and currently had no idea what had happened to at least one of her copies had nothing to do with it.

Nor was the fact that that she had seen the collapsed ruins of her home in the distance.

There was also the small matter of the absence of news coming from Elizabeth and Anna and their families.

And the fact that their families now KNEW about them.

No, it was nothing to do with those things at all. No really, it was nothing to with that.

With a sudden swerve, Hay Lin#2 sighed. She wasn't fooling anyone, least of all herself. She was reacting, trying to save people and sooner than later, she was going to fail and die at the hands of evil copies of her friends.

She had to admit, she never expected to die like that.

She gave herself a little shake. That was being pessimistic. She had faced scarier things before. There were bigger, more powerful threats that she had survived and triumphed over. Yes the odds weren't good and yes this was in her home town and not some distant world.

But she had never faced them alone. She always had her friends by her side.

A wailing siren caught her attention as several police cars flashed past her in the street below. Not a good sign and probably worth following. Turning to follow, she was soon flanked by another pair of Hay Lins flying in a perfect V formation at her sides.

"Which Hay Lin are you?" she shouted over to the one on her right. "Who were you facing?"

"I was facing Will!" the Hay Lin shouted back.

"I was facing Taranee!" the other shouted and Hay Lin#2 felt a feeling of dread settle in her stomach. A feeling mirrored by the other two Hay Lin's.

"Where are the others?" the three asked in unison.

"I was facing Irma!" Hay Lin#2 told the two girls. (Belatedly she remembered that Hay Lin#1 had been the one facing Will and that Hay Lin#3 had faced Taranee) "The ones facing evil me…err us is missing and the other is facing Cornelia."

"We should have heard something by now!" Hay Lin#1 shouted as the group flew closer to the police cars destination.

"Yeah, where are the other versions of us?" Hay Lin#3 bellowed and Hay Lin#2 swore.

"I think we have more pressing issues to worry about," she said as the three of them saw EXACTLY what their evil counterparts were doing.

"Look on the bright side," said Hay Lin#3. "There's…" Hay Lin#3's words trailed off as the three of them stared at their evil counterparts. "Well…we know where they are at least. That's…something. Sort of…"

Hay Lin#2 and Hay Lin#1 swallowed and nodded uncertainly.

"Yeah…we do…" they said in unison as the colour drained from their faces.

In front of them, they could see their dark counterparts as they dangled Matt over the edge of the roof. And not one of them had any ideas how to save him.

AN: Okay, this has just been hard to push out, so I'm cutting it off here. Sorry guys, we'll deal with the others in the next chapter.
