You switch on the television, desperately hoping that something good is on. The default channel is high, too high for what you're paying. All you can hear is static, and the visuals are not much better. Shadowy figures move in a electric haze created by a bad connection. Being an avid Teen Titans fan, you can just make out some of the voices. There is one you do not recognize, but you listen carefully to what is being said.
BB: "We can't fight her. She's Raven." (holds head in hands)
OC: "She was Raven. Raven no longer exists."
Rob: "Then... we must fight her. We... must defeat her... kill her."
OC: "You can't beat her."
Cy: "What?"
OC: "Raven... Or perhaps I should say Rage, for that is now her name... is the strongest being in this world. She is the ruler of the Demons; despite her half-human heritage, her father's power rests in her. Also, she has all the benefits of human beings. And her new mechanical parts give her even more strength and power. It is her destiny to destroy this Earth. She is... unstoppable."
Star: "Then what can we do?"
OC: "Nothing... except wait... and die..."
Rob: (slams fist down on table) "NO! We're the Teen Titans, dammit! There must be something we can do!"
OC: "There is nothing."
Rob: "I can't accept that!"
OC: "Your acceptance does not matter - you will still die. This is the one battle you can not win."
Rob: "We can win this battle!"
Star: (puts hand on his shoulder) "No, friend Robin. OC is right. We can not win a battle against this enemy."
Rob: "Starfire-"
Star: "Wait, friend Robin; I am not done. We can not win this battle - but we can fight it. Even though... that thing was once our friend, we will fight it. Because it is our duty to Earth... and the entire universe. We may have a duty to Raven, but our duty to the people is more important. We will fall, as will your Earth - our Earth, but there will be other planets, other battles. Though the enemy will win this battle, I am sure that it will eventually fall... it may win the battle, but it will lose the war. Of that, I am certain."
Rob: "Oh, Star..." (they embrace)
Cy: "What about outside help?"
OC: "It would take a whole army to stop her, with more firepower than you could imagine. No one can get here in time. All we can do is warn the other planets."
Rob: "Has that been done?"
OC: "Yes. Every system within reach has been sent a warning message. Each of them will fight; one of them must ultimately prevail."
Star: "What about evacuation? Can not some of the people be saved?"
OC: "Some of our ships managed to get through before the shields went up. The enemy has erected a hazy, red... wall around the planet. A forcefield. Nothing can get in or out, including messages."
Rob: "What about the warnings?"
OC: "Those were also sent out before the shields went up."
Rob: "So- there really is nothing we can do."
BB: "Raven... where are you now...?"
The screen blanks out, and the TV turns off. You switch it back on, searching for that channel. You can no longer find it, and the default channel is now channel 7. A bubbly meteorologist informs you of the weather for Tuesday, as you drop your head into your hands and groan.
