I had this one-shot in the works for a while before "Agony of a Witch" and "Young Blood, Old Souls" first aired so this will far from the canon. Though the only thing I changed was Luz's use of her own magic as seen in the most recent episode but I didn't want to go through the whole story just to match the events of the show. It's called Fanfiction for a reason. Anyways, enjoy!

The Boiling Isles, an island chain located in the demon realm once trapped under the rule of a selfish, manipulative emperor named Belos who sought to limit the energy of other magic users to increase his own power and planned invade the human realm and rule over both worlds with an iron fist.

But a human girl named Luz Noceda accidentally entered into the isles and met a witch named Eda who's also known as The Owl Lady; the most wanted criminal in all of the land who suffers from a dark curse.

Seeing this as her chance to find her way in life, Luz begged Eda to teach her magic, but knowing humans aren't capable of preforming spells, Eda still agreed to take the girl under her wing.

From that point on, the two along with a small demon named King have been part of many adventures too unbelievable for regular humans.

Eventually, Luz finally learned how to cast spells on her own by drawing special symbols found in all forms of magic on paper. This got her closer to her dream!

While living in the Boiling Isles, Luz made friends in the form of a girl named Willow who could do plant magic, a boy named Gus who specializes in illusions, and a girl named Amity who once was an enemy turned ally (and maybe more...)

Luz even managed to enter the Hexside School of Magic and Demonics and got to study all tracks, furthering her progress to becoming a witch.

As time passed, Emperor Belos made his move but was confronted by Luz, Eda, and anyone else they've managed to get on their side.

The emperor was defeated and the Boiling Isles was finally freed of his tyranny, allowing the citizens to never have their magic limited ever again.

Lilith, Eda's sister who is also the one who cursed her, was also subdued as she aided the emperor. Ashamed of her actions, Lilith lifts Eda's curse and went into self exile in hopes to return in the future and make amends.

Luz was labeled a hero and made everyone see that humans aren't so bad after all. But unfortunately, Luz had to return home.

The goodbye was full of tears but Luz promised to return to the Boiling Isles one day and have fun with her friends once again.

But Luz never came back...

With all the new freedoms everyone was now enjoying, most didn't notice her absence besides Eda, King, Willow, Amity, and Gus.

The three pre-teens were worried about their friend but Eda reassured them that Luz is okay and that the human world was very different from theirs so it's not surprising that Luz is taking her time returning.

So as days turned into months and then into years, everyone pretty much moved on and Luz was but a past memory in everyone's mind, including Amity's who once was in love with her.

Finally realizing that she hasn't seen her apprentice in a long time, Eda took her staff and told King to watch the house while she left to the human realm.

Eda mounted her staff and flew off.

...

Eventually, Eda entered the human world and seeing that the sun was down, she took off into the dark sky to hide herself while remembering where Luz said her house was.

From what she was told, Luz's house isn't far from the shack she entered the day she came to the Boiling Isles, even going as far as to show Eda a picture of the house if she ever wanted to visit.

It didn't take long for the Owl Lady to spot the house as she swooped down stealthly.

Getting close to a window, Eda peaked in and only managed to make out a large table from the little light from the street nearby.

"This must be a dining room." Eda thought to herself.

Seeing that the house is vacant, the owl lady contemplates going to the front door and ringing the doorbell. But what would Luz's mother think of a stranger at the door late at night explaining that she knows Luz?

Not wanting to risk a scare, Eda decided to scan other windows to find Luz's room.

One particular window caught Eda's interest as it was wide open, adding an extra lair of darkness.

The witch floated to the window and carefully stuck her head inside the house to see which room she was looking in.

Still too dark to see, Eda reached her right hand in and activated a light spell though dimmed it enough to not be too bright and catch anyone's attention.

Sure enough, Eda was looking into a bedroom. And not just any bedroom, but one Luz always described to Eda during her time in the Boiling Isles.

Posters of anime and other nerdy stuff littered the walls and bookshelfs.

This made Eda chuckle quietly as she recalled her apprentice being a huge geek.

Something else Eda saw was toys a young child would play with.

Believing this is just another silly human thing, Eda ignored it.

But what sat in the middle of the room is what Eda was more focused on. A bed with a noticeable lump under the blanket. Luz.

"there you are." Eda whispered and proceeded to carefully crawl into the window, making sure she didn't step on anything that would make any loud or small noises.

Now in the bedroom, Eda crept slowly towards the bed.

As she got closer, a small smile grew on Eda's face as she felt glad to finally see her old friend once more.

Now standing next to the bed, Eda leaned forwards and reached her hand that wasn't holding her stuff and placed it softly on the lump.

"luz? luz it's me, eda! wake up." Eda whispered as she lightly shook the bundle under the blanket.

The gentle shaking caused the lump to shift slightly.

"come on luz, wake up for ol' eda!"

Grabbing the hem of the blankets and pulling it back, Eda could almost make out something she didn't expect. Reaching for a nearby lamp and flicking it on illuminated the room, allowing Eda to see a small human girl with tan skin long dark brown hear and wearing pink pajamas.

"What in the-" Eda expressed her confusion. She began to wonder if Luz has a little sibling she never spoke of before.

The little girl stirred and rubbed her eyes before opening them and looking up at Eda.

Both stared at each other with different reactions. Eda was confused while the girl looked afraid by the appearance of this random lady in her bedroom.

"Luz?" Eda asked once more as she got a little closer to the girl.

This proved to be a mistake as the girl began screaming loudly, causing Eda to jump back in surprise.

"Mommy! Daddy!" the little girl cried.

Not sure whether to calm the girl or retreat, Eda made up her mind when she heard loud footsteps approaching the bedroom door.

Eda quickly flew out the window and went on the roof to hide.

While on the roof, Eda heard the door open and light shining out the window.

Deciding to see what the parents look like believing one of them is Luz's mother, Eda carefully crawled off the roof and onto the wall like a spider and stopped next to the window.

Peeking in, Eda immediately spotted a grown man with light skin sitting on the bed next to the girl who Eda assumes to be his daughter. But the woman standing next to the two quickly caught the witch's attention.

Whoever she is, the mother looks very similar to Camilia Noceda from the pictures Eda was shown by Luz when she was in the boiling isles. except this lady had thinner eyebrows and no earrings, but she was wearing a necklace that had a metal owl symbol on it.

"What's wrong, mija?" the woman asked sweetly.

The girl wiped her tears and began to speak.

"T-There was this old lady here. She had a long purple dress and big hair!" the child explained to the best of her ability.

"It must've been a dream, sweet pea. This boogeylady isn't real." The man replied calmly.

"But she was saying momma's name!" the girl added.

The two parents smiled.

"And did this boogeylady have a name herself?" the dad questioned.

"Eda." the child answered quickly.

Suddenly, Eda saw the woman's tired expression change into sudden shock.

"Eda?" she asked which her daughter confirmed.

The lady glanced around the room before looking back at her daughter.

"Do you know where this Eda may of went?" the woman asked while sounding slightly desperate for an answer.

The little girl pointed towards the opened window where Eda was peeking in.

The owl lady saw the woman's head turn to the window a mere second before she quickly backed up.

Eda heard soft footsteps coming towards the window which told Eda to get back on the roof which she did.

Looking over the edge, Eda saw the woman leaning out the window with her hands on the sill, looking around the backyard.

Eda studied the woman from above and wondered who she is. She isn't Camilia and that little girl, while looking similar to the lady, isn't Luz either.

Did Luz move to a new house?

Seeming to give up her search, the lady retreated back into the house and closed the window behind her.

Deciding to see what was going on, Eda crawled back onto the wall and looking into the window to see the now sleepy girl rest her head on the pillow before falling asleep.

The mother leaned down and pecked her daughter on the forehead before flipping the lamp off and went to the door where her husband was waiting.

After the door closed, Eda stayed at that spot for a little while wondering what to do next. She felt hurt that Luz was nowhere in sight which worried the owl lady. Did Luz move and not inform her? Is Luz...gone?

Eda sighed and blamed herself. After all, she never took the time to visit so why would Luz hold back her life for an old witch?

Defeated, Eda decided that it was time for her to return home until she heard a voice below her.

"Eda?' a feminine voice called.

Looking down, Eda sees the lady now in a robe standing in the backyard below.

"Eda, are you there?" she called again but wasn't looking up at Eda.

Eda's head tilted as more questions entered her mind. Like how did this stranger know her name? Did Luz tell everyone about her adventure so they all know about Eda?

The owl lady started to put the pieces together in her mind as she thought about the little girl and Camilia along with the owl necklace the woman is wearing.

With realization, Eda's eyes widened as she looked down at the woman who was now heading for the door.

"It can't be..." Eda said quietly.

The woman reached for the door handle but not before looking back into the yard hoping she would meet an old friend. But unfortunately, it seemed that day won't come...

"Luz?"

The woman jumped slightly at the sound of the familiar voice and turned around quickly to see the lady before her.

Both looked at each other with the woman covering her mouth as tears formed in her eyes while Eda continued staring unsure what to think.

"Eda..." the woman said with a sad smile while approaching the witch.

Eda braced herself for whatever reason as the lady got closer to her.

The woman got closer to Eda and reached out towards her, wrapping her arms around Eda's body in a hug.

"Eda!" the woman cried happily.

Eda's eyes widened as she looked down at the crying lady hugging her.

"Is it... really you Luz?" Eda questioned softly.

The woman looked up and smiled at the witch.

Eda examined her face to make some form of connection as if she couldn't see the answer that is standing right in front of her. But that's when Eda noticed her hazel-brown eyes. She's seen those eyes before, the type that are filled with wonder and kindness.

And only one person Eda knows has those eyes...

"L-Luz?" Eda asked once more as the puzzle was finally put together.

The woman, better known as Luz, nodded happily.

Fresh tears formed in Eda's eyes too as she placed both hands on the sides of her former apprentice's face.

"Luz!" Eda rejoiced as she brought her old friend close.

The witch then began caressing Luz's hair as she kissed all over her face which caused the latter to giggle.

Finishing her kiss assault, Eda looked at Luz once more.

"It's you! It's really you! Eh..." Eda's smile dropped when she finally noticed just how Luz changed. She was no longer a small and wimpy looking fourteen year old. Instead, she's now a full grown adult.

"You're... older." Eda pointed out.

Luz's smile dropped slightly.

"It's been a long time." she replied.

"Too long..." Eda added.

The two went silent for a short time.

"You never came to visit." said Eda

"Neither did you." Luz replied, looking way from her mentor.

Eda slumped in self disappointment.

All of a sudden, the once wooden owl palisman on top of Eda's staff began to move on it's own as if it was alive the whole time.

The small owl opened it's eyes and looked at the familiar woman before him.

With a happy hoot, the owl jumped onto Luz's shoulder and affectionately rubbed his face against hers.

"Aww, Owlbert! I missed you too!" Luz cooed as she hugged the owl.

Flapping his wings, Owlbert levitated in the air and gave Luz one final hoot before returning to the perch of the staff and turned into solid wood once more.

This caused the two to softly laugh.

"Cute little guy." said Luz

Both were awkwardly silent until Eda spoke.

"I-I'm sorry Luz. It's just with everything changing back home and myself no longer cursed, I just couldn't find the time." Eda explained, ashamed.

"It's alright, I could've visited at least once. But as you see, life tends to get in the way." Luz replied as she looked down on her grown body.

"Heh. I guess we both suck at keeping promises, eh?" Eda joked which caused Luz to chuckle along.

"So how is everyone back in the isles?" Luz questioned after finishing her small laugh.

"Oh boy, you will be awestruck on just how much things have changed back home. Willow became the new principle of Hexside after Bump retired, she's doing fine and has started this anti-bullying policy in the school. Also, she has changed the punishments so they won't be so harsh for students who misbehave in very small ways." Eda began.

"Really? That's amazing!" Luz grinned.

"Yeah. Gus has become the assistant to the new emperor who I'll talk more of in a few. Given everyone's new found freedom, he just goes around and helps the community. Oh, and he and Willow are married. And not only that but they're expecting their first little brat any day now."

Luz's eyes widened.

"What?" she shouted. "I missed their wedding..." she added with a small hint of sadness.

Eda felt bad for Luz.

"My bad. Should've came to inform you."

Luz nodded. "No, it's my bad for missing it too. Maybe I can find a day to visit? After all, no way am I gonna allow that kid to not know their aunt Luz!" she replied confidently.

"Good to see you're still chipper. Anyways, good 'ol Amity Blight is now the new emperor of the Boiling Isles." Eda revealed.

"Woah, seriously?!" Luz asked in surprise.

"Yep. Originally that spot was offered to me as a way of apologizing for being hunted and treated as a criminal but I declined because I have no interest wearing those shabby robes. Plus, I just wanted people to treat me like a friend rather than a way yo get some quick snails. Back to Amity, she made it so everyone is free to study any form of magic they want without being reduced to just one and set anyone imprisoned during Belos's reign free from their chains and given full pardon. Also, she made a special law stating that any human who enters the Boiling Isles are to be treated as equals instead of lower lifeforms. She made that one because of you." Eda grinned.

"T-That's nice." Luz said awkwardly as she rubbed her arm.

Truth is, her and Amity were very close back in the Isles but she didn't know just how close they were. Luz remembered hearing rumors that Amity had a thing for her but with everything that took place with the Emperor and Eda's curse, she just couldn't find time to find out the truth for herself.

"She misses you, you know." Eda said softly.

Luz nodded. "I miss her too. H-How was she after I left?" the tan-skinned woman questioned.

"Well she was saddened that you had to leave before she could reveal her feelings for you but held onto hope that you would return. Seeing that this didn't happen sorta broke her heart. Willow and Gus gave her words of encouragement and even I offered her some helpful advice given my past relationships." The owl lady explained, snorting after mentioning her failed relationships.

"A-Anyways. It took some time but Amity eventually moved on thinking that if you're happy where you're at, then she is too. Amity isn't in a relationship right now, I guess she isn't focused on love at the moment." she explained.

Luz looked down at her wedding ring and sighed. She loved her husband very much and has no desire of leaving him but she also can't help but to feel bad for never being there for her friend.

"I can't believe I was so oblivious back then." Luz mumbled.

Eda smirked. "Tell me about it. I used to cringe seeing Amity give out every sign she could only for you to clumsily look past it."

Seeing a depressed expression on her apprentice's face, Eda quickly changed her tune.

"That doesn't mean you're the bad guy, it just means you two weren't meant to be. At least in this timeline." Eda reassured.

"Thing's would probably be different if I came back... Wait, timeline?" Luz scowled.

Eda waved her off. "Forget about that. I assume you're curious about King and Hooty?"

Luz's eyes shined like diamonds.

"OMG! Yes!" she replied in anttipation.

Eda smiled at the familiar enthusiasm.

"Well King is doing quite well. He has grown quite a lot since you last saw him. Though not too big but he now takes up half of the couch back home. But knowing King, his new size has gone to his head so he's now the guardian of Hexside."

Luz raised an eyebrow. "Why would Hexside need a guardian? Is there a new threat in the Boiling Isles."

Eda shook her head.

"Everything's fine and King gave that title to himself. He's actually a glorified hall monitor. Students everyday bribes him with sweets and stuffed animals to get away with things like running in the halls or chewing gum in class." Eda explains with a smirk.

"That easy? I'm surprised Willow hasn't given him the boot yet."

"Why would she? He looks so cute with his mini hall monitor sash on. Plus, no student has attempted truancy because they always want to see King acting like a threat only to make a adorable noise."

Luz snorted with laughter.

"And to show that he's serious, King tells everyone that if they don't follow the rules then he'll summon you back to set them straight." Eda added.

Luz smiled at the memory of the tiny king of demons.

"That little guy is such a sight for sore eyes." said Luz dreamily.

"That little booger constantly looks forward for your return saying how it will be met with roars of applause and a giant feast. With how he keeps hyping it up, I'm half expecting it to be true." said Eda.

"Well, I'll be sure to see that feast through!" Luz smiled.

Eda reached forwards and ruffled Luz's hair.

"That's the spirit! Now would you like to know about Hooty?" Eda suggested. Luz shrugged. "Well considering how the others changed, I'm curious on what Hooty's been up to." Luz replied.

"Nothing new." Eda said immediately.

Luz blinked.

"Really? Nothing changed with him? He's just doing the same thing as always?" The adult Luz asked.

Eda nodded. "And he's happy too."

"Riiight." Luz rolled her eyes.

"Oh!" she jolted. "What about... you know?"

"Lilith." Eda replied with a frown.

Luz nodded slowly.

"I'm not sure how mended your relationship with her so I didn't know if it was still rocky or not. And the last time I saw her was when she sent herself on self-exile." Luz explained.

"Well if you must know, Lily has came out of her exile long ago. Though with her past as Belo's stooge, the isles didn't have a high opinion of her at first. Instead of desperately trying to get back on everyone's good side, Lilith decided to work to regain everyone's trust. As of now, no one cringes or narrows their eyes when they see Lilith and actually acknowledges her positively. She's also living with me which isn't so bad though I wish she would stop complaining every time I forget to take the trash out." Eda spoke, smiling a bit at the last part.

"Has she spoke of me any?" Luz questioned.

"Not really. She does hold a large amount of respect for you but you're not exactly #1 on her priority list. You feel me?"

Luz nodded.

"So anyways, enough about us. What about you Luz? Did you show off your magic to anyone yet?" Eda asked.

"No. And this is where it gets odd. For some reason, being here cancels out my magic unlike how I can do it constantly in the isles." Luz explained.

Eda scratched her chin.

"Must be because you're human. Either that or this world doesn't hold magical properties unlike home. But I guess that's a good thing because I'm not so sure if other humans are ready to know that magic exists yet." Eda replied, curious herself.

"What I'd do to have one of those sacs of magical bile on my heart." Luz quipped.

Eda formed a fist and bumped it on her chest where her heart is.

"I'd give you mine but I'm pretty sure my life depends on that sac." Eda joked.

The two shared a laugh like old times. The two then stopped and stared at each other.

Luz came up and hugged her mentor once more with Eda proceeding to hold her close.

Half a minute later, Luz pulled away.

"It was nice to see you again Eda." Luz smiled.

Eda reached over and grabbed Luz's hands.

"Come back with me. Everyone misses you, I miss you." Eda pleaded.

Luz wore a patient, sad smile.

"I'm sorry Eda. But I'm unable to right now." said Luz while noticing tears building up in Eda's eyes.

"Please..." Eda began with a broken voice as the tears fell down her cheeks.

Luz placed her hands on the sides of Eda's head and stroked the tears away with her thumbs.

"One day. Just not now." Luz said again as she batter her now wet eyes.

Though it was hard for her, Eda nodded, understanding.

"I'm proud of you." said Eda.

"I'm proud of you too." Luz replied.

The two longtime friends held each other close one more time before finally departing.

Eda summoned her staff and was ready to fly off for home as Luz watched.

"If I didn't have anything going on tomorrow, I would suggest we go on a late night ride like old times." said Luz

"That would be fun." Eda replied as she mounted her staff.

"Oh, and one more thing..." Luz spoke causing the owl lady to pause.

"Next time you come down for an unexpected visit, please use the door. The last thing I wanted was to be awoken by the screams of my daughter." Luz said sternly.

Eda rolled her eyes.

"Yeah yeah. Whatever, old lady." Eda answered as the staff began to float in the air.

Suddenly, Eda's eyes widened.

"Wait... DAUGHTER?!" Eda shouted in surprise which made Luz jump.

Eda landed on her feet and quickly approached Luz.

"T-That little girl up there... she's your daughter?" Eda questioned with her eyes still widened.

Luz took a minute to comprehend Eda's sudden excitement before catching up.

"Y-Yes, I have a daughter." she answered.

Eda looked off into the void as if her mind suddenly broke into pieces.

"I-I thought she was your little sister or something. And with me seeing you again, I forgot all about her. Luz, you're a mom!" Eda sputtered.

"I am. Would...you like to meet her?" Luz suggested.

"Eda looked at Luz in awe.

"I mean, I was just wondering. It's best if you wait another time because she has school tomorrow and it is pretty late at ni-"

"Yes." Eda said bluntly.

Luz looked at Eda and up at her daughter's bedroom window.

Despite everything Luz had just said, she still went into the house to retrieve her kid.

Eda waited impatiently. She walked around in a small circle on the grass as if she's a father waiting to meet his newborn child.

Hearing the backdoor open made Eda quickly turn her head to see the same girl from earlier, wrapped in a blanket while being held in Luz's arms.

The whole world froze for Eda as Luz and her daughter came towards her.

"Eda." Luz began. "This is my daughter."

The girl tiredly wiped her eyes as they attempted to adjust to the small amount of light around.

After a few seconds, the little girl finally looked at Eda a=who stared back.

Too tired to react, the little girl simply held onto her mom tighter with a small whine.

"Don't be afraid." Luz reassured. "This is an old friend on mommy."

Eda examined the girl and saw just how similar to Luz she looked.

"W-What's her name?" Eda asked.

"Azura." Luz replied.

Eda quickly glanced at Luz before looking back at Azura.

"After the book character you liked? I kinda thought she would bare my name." Eda said in false disappointment.

"I was thinking of saving it for another child." Luz replied quickly.

Hearing that caused Eda to give a breathless laugh.

"Azura Noceda, or whatever your last name is now. I love it." Eda then remembered the kid. "May I hold her?" she asked almost desperately.

Luz nodded as she whispered something in Azura's ear as if she's explaining that Eda means no harm.

Seeming calmer, Azura leaned up as Luz handed her over to Eda who gently grasped the child's small body.

"Hello there." Eda said calmly as she brought Azura closer to her.

Azura looked up as Eda curiously as she noticed her pointy ears and reached for them.

"Azura." Luz began.

"It's alright." said Eda as she allowed the girl to grab her ears.

"Pointy." Azura said sleepily.

"Careful with them or they'll poke your eye out kid." Eda joked.

Azura then began to explore other things about Eda that caught her eye such as the gem on her dress and her big gray hair.

"She's so beautiful!" Eda sobbed happily which Azura noticed.

"Don't cry. Don't be sad." the little girl said innocently.

"I'm not crying!" Eda began "I just have something in my eyes."

Not believing her, Azura hugged around Eda's neck and rested her head on one of Eda's shoulders.

"No sadness." Azura said with a yawn. Feeling her tiredness taking over, Azura began to doze until finally falling asleep as Eda continued to hold her.

Feeling the now slumbering child, Eda gently caressed her hair.

That's when it all finally came to Eda. She has missed so much in Luz's life.

Before, she always saw Luz as something close to a daughter. But that girl is now an adult, married, and a mom.

"I'm sorry Luz. Sorry for not seeing you so often. I was too caught up in my own life that I hardly thought any of yours." Eda apologized softly to not wake Azura.

Luz rested her hand on Eda's free shoulder.

"It's okay. You've suffered from that curse for years so you deserve to enjoy freedom. I'm just glad I got to see you again." Luz replied.

The two smiled at each other for a small time.

"Well I got to get this one back to bed. School starts early for her." said Luz as she reached for her daughter.

Eda loosened her grip so Luz could get Azula in her clutches.

"It was nice to see you again Luz." said Eda.

"Let's hope there will be more visits in the future." Luz replied.

"Oh, you bet!" Eda snapped. "Weekends, holidays, and any other time. I'm not missing a single moment ever again! Not only that, but I'll be taking you, Azula, and your hubby to the Isles every once in a while!"

"Well before that happens, he's got to get used to the fact that witches and magic are real." said Luz

"Oh, he will! When I'm through, your husband will be a magic fanatic!" Eda pressed on.

Luz giggled.

"Goodnight, Eda."

Eda smiled back.

"Goodnight, Luz."

And with that, the two parted ways.

As Luz walked towards the door, she looked back just in time to see Eda fly off on her staff into the night sky.

Luz smiled as her former mentor waved down at her before flying off out of sight.

"See you soon, Eda." Luz whispered before entering her house.

The End.
