Amity Blight, a straight A student at Hexside. Top of her class for the abomination track and a prime candidate for the emperor's coven when she was older. She had no need for friends, especially ones that couldn't stand beside her as worthy witches.
That's what she told herself for years. And then she met the human. An annoyingly naive mess that got Amity in trouble nearly every time they met.
And yet for some reason she kept trying to be Amity's friend. And despite how Amity initially hated the idea she slowly warmed up to having the human around. Sure, nearly every time they met the got into some kind of dangerous situation but it was still more fun then being with her other so called friends.
Eventually she even managed to call her by her name. Soon she and luz were regularly hanging out and reading their favorite book series in her secret spot in the library. This quickly became her second most anticipated time, her first being her private tutoring sessions with Lilith.
She quickly learned however that Luz was not one for personal space and constantly leaned on her or hugged her without permission. But for some reason she found herself welcoming the new sensations. She assumed it was just a human thing but soon found it was just Luz being Luz. That and she greatly enjoyed her warm embraces. In fact in the two weeks she was with Luz she got more hugs then two years with her family.
The more they hung out the more Amity started to feel something toward Luz, something that she tried to hide deep down. At first it had just been a longing for companionship that she'd had long ago but it time it only grew.
Then there was the incident with Willow and her memories. That day had been both good and bad for her. Yes, she'd laid the groundwork for Willow to forgive her and shown why she'd done what she'd done all those years ago. But it also showed Luz a part of herself she didn't' want to reveal.
To make matters more embarrassing the next day at school Luz had popped up and handed her a small handmade card before running off. Curios she opened it and found a small memory photo of Luz falling over while dressed like an otter while being chased by dogs. Alongside it was a message.
"To make us even for you showing me something embarrassing here's me when I first found out how clumsy I am. Oh and sorry your parents are jerks. But I still think you're great!"
In the past she would have read such a message and simply burnt it afterwards. But not this one, no this one she reread before chuckling at the awkward photo before pinning it insider her locker before saying.
"Luz you adorable human you." After saying this her cheeks reddened before she checked to see if anyone had heard this.
The following weeks as she spent more time with Luz her feelings grew. At first it was wondering how Luz was doing and if anyone was picking on her. Then she couldn't get her smiling face out of her mind or unconsciously waiting outside her class for her. Nearly every time Luz would innocently ask. "Awwww was someone waiting for me?"
Each time Amity would blush and smack her with her book before stating something along the lines of "I was just making sure you didn't get yourself into trouble again."
When she was at home these thoughts and feelings got worse. First came drawing her and Luz as part of her Azura doodles. Then her abomination took on Luz's form for a few moments. Even having the occasional dream where Luz rescued her like Azura did in her favorite book. How she'd lean down her dark lips inches from hers only to wake up just before the kiss. However, the moment that made it clear to her that she had feelings for Luz was when she overheard her and Willow talking one day.
She normally would have continued walking but stopped in her tracks when Willow began talking about her two dads relationship. Something that wasn't uncommon in the boiling isles but not something people actively talked about. At first it was just about how her fathers were thinking about opening a flower shop.
What made her linger just around the corner was what Luz said next.
"I wish in the future I can have a relationship like that."
Amity while behind the corner felt her heart beat a bit faster but took a breath knowing that this could just be Luz talking about relationships in general.
Willow on the other hand asked anyway. "So, you want your future husband to be from the isles?"
"Husband, wife… I'm good with either. Honestly since coming here and meeting all these people I've probably gone full bi curious, or just bi. Really hard not to be with so many cute witches about."
As if the emperor himself was answering her unasked prayers Willow asked. "So does my favorite human friend already have someone in mind?"
"Maybe, it's kind of hard to tell. I'm not sure if she likes me or finds me annoying."
Amity held back her silent cheer as she looked up at the poster for Grom and her racing mind before bolting out of school and running home grabbing a large bundle of papers and desperately trying to get her message across.
"Luz, I like you and was wondering if you'd be my date to Grom. No that's to much… Luz would you be my Grom date? No, not that… Luz be my date?"
She screamed and ignited the crumpled messages just as her siblings came in curious about her screaming.
"Alright mittens what's all the noise about?"
"Nothing leave me alone!"
But her siblings saw her frustration and how she'd been coming home either smiling or red faced and panicked. Emira sat down on her bed gently picking up the remaining note. Upon seeing this Amity tried to lunge forward only for her brother to hold her back with a restraint spell. "Now what do we have here?" she read single line on the paper before handing it to a spasming Amity.
"Well Emeric looks like our baby sister has her first crush."
"Really now?"
"Yes, and our little mittens is trying to ask her little human to Grom."
"Well Emira you know what we have to do don't you?"
"Of course, Emeric."
Amity felt her heart explode as she imagined just how her siblings were going to embarrass her by telling Luz. Or worse the entire school!
But instead they helped her up and too her desk.
"For starters Amity first, you need to know if she's even interested in girls. Trust me when I say it will save you a lot of embarrassment if you find out before rather than after."
Amity sat there confused for two full minutes before asking. "Wait, you're not going to mess with me and out me to Luz?"
They looked to one another before laughing and jostling her hair.
"Of course not mittens. We'll wait before you two are together then embarrass you by telling your girlfriend embarrassing stories. But first we'll help you get your girl."
That night her siblings for the first time in a long while weren't jerky or embarrassing but kind and listened to her as she talked about her feelings and how Luz made her feel.
When morning finally came and she was fueled by her siblings encouragement she sought out Luz pulling her away from Willow and Gus.
Once alone in the library Luz innocently asked with the smile the made her heart do back flips. "Alright now that you got me alone what's up?"
Her heart racing she pulled out the note and handed it to Luz turning around as the magic note came to life.
"Luz I was wondering if you'd like to go to Grom with me… as my date?"
Luz seeing her friend's ears burning hugged her from behind.
"I'd love to."
Amity while immensely pleased turned around and asked the embarrassing question. "As a friend or…"
Luz simply smiled and quickly leaned forward kissing her cheek and pushing Amity into full panic mode.
"You…I…cheek…kissed…"
"Yeah well, I thought I'd make my feelings clear, see you at grom at six?"
All Amity could do was nod as she held her cheek. Sadly merely five minutes after successfully inviting her crush to Grom it was announced she'd be Grom queen. That single message at destroyed her confidence and sent her running.
Eventually Luz caught up with her and after explain that Grom was fear feasting monster that took the form of your worst nightmare she like always tried to take over for her.
And unfortunately for her she was to afraid to stop her. She and her siblings tried to train her, but she knew it probably wouldn't end well. And to her massive shame it didn't. Luz upon seeing her mother couldn't face her fear and ran with Grom following her.
She and Eda rushed after her and while Eda wounded it Amity got Grom's attention.
What happened next nearly destroyed her. For as Grom transformed into Luz's shape it telepathically spoke mimicking Luz's voice.
"Did you really think I was serious about you? You're just a friend, and not a particularly good one at that."
Even though she knew it wasn't the real Luz saying that those words drained all the warmth from her body as it began to slither away.
The only thing that stopped her from running away was Luz's arms wrapping around her.
"Amity!? Stay with me!"
"Luz…I…I'm sorry."
Luz seeing the fear and shame in her date's eyes brushed a hair out of her face before leaning down to kiss her. The moment their lips made contact heat and magic rushed through their bodies. As Luz pulled away her own face burning, she pulled Amity up.
"Now how about you help me show this thing the consequences of messing with my girlfriend?" she said raising her hand for a dance. Seeing Luz's happy face ignited her body and filled her with strength as she took her hand.
"Sure I still need to teach it a lesson for messing with my human."
What happened next was for the two of them the most romantic and magical thing either had ever done as they proceeded to dance fight to beat Grom and earn their twin tiaras.
From the tree lines Eda and her siblings clapped and cheered. When they saw the crowd of students coming Luz grabbed her hand and raised it to the air screaming.
"Grom queens!"
Amity simply rolled her eyes at her girlfriends' antics but thought to herself.
She is such a dork, but she's my dork.
She and Luz spent the remainder of the night in her room in the Owl house curled up in a series of blankets with a magically locked door and window. It was mainly to keep Hooty and King out but also to give the new couple a nice quiet sleepover.
