Notes: For this to work Carlisle had at least one kid before he became a vampire.

Not a Joyce friendly fic.

Buffy Summers couldn't believe that her own mother was in denial over the existence of vampires even after having watched Buffy stake one right in front of her. Even when Buffy told her about Cousin Carlisle being a vampire and that was why he hadn't aged a day in twelve years Buffy's mother didn't believe her. In fact, her mother flat out told her that she was going to take her back to the mental institution because she was obviously not cured. So, after saving Giles and stopping Angelus from destroying the world, she snuck through her window and packed a quick bag. She opened the chest with the false bottom where she kept a few weapons and her alternate ID and an emergency credit card that her uncle had given her. Buffy quickly wrote out a simple note folded it and placed it in her pocket. Closing her window once she was outside, she jumps down and heads to Giles place to leave the note where he would find it.

Buffy sat on the plane trying to rest but her body ached as the adrenaline had worn off and she was feeling the effects of the fight. Her mind was thinking about the events of last night. After dropping the letter off at Giles, Buffy headed to the bus depot and used her cash to buy a ticket to LA. Once in LA she caught a taxi to the airport where she bought a one-way ticket to Seattle with the emergency credit card. She wondered who would be there to pick her up knowing that Alice probably had a vision of her arrival or her Uncle Carlisle got sent a message that the credit card had been used. Buffy couldn't wait to see her Uncle. She was the only one who called him Uncle even though he was technically her great-great-great-great grandfather. Her mother only knew him as a second cousin. The "fasten your seatbelt sign" came on as the stewardess began to speak and Buffy was glad that the weather was cloudy. It meant that she wouldn't have to worry about sparkling vampires. The plane landed and Buffy grabbed her bag from the overhead compartment. As she exited the terminal, she spotted them both immediately. She wanted to run over to them, but her body was stiff from sitting so long and her injuries hurt. With concern faces they met her part of the way.

"You're hurt." Edward spoke first.

"I'm okay. I bandaged my arm and wrapped my rib in the LA airport restroom."

"Carlisle should still check you over when we get to the house."

"Okay. Can I have my hug now?" Edward nodded and hugged her gently.

"My turn Firebug."

Emmet was the only person Buffy would let call her that. He nicknamed her that after he found out Buffy had set the school gym on fire. He hugged her making sure to be careful of her ribs.

"Is this your only bag?" Emmet asked.

"Yes, my departure was a rather quick one that I'll tell you about once we are all together." Buffy told them as they began to walk.

Emmet took her bag as they walked together out of the airport. Edward noticed that Buffy began to lean more and more on him, so once they were out of the airport, he scooped her up into his arms and carried her. When they were sure that no one was around they used their vampire speed to get to the car quickly. Edward unlocked the car door and then tossed the keys to Emmet as he set Buffy down. She looked back at him and he nodded his head. She climbed in and scooted over so that Edward could climb in beside her. When he was in Emmet shut the door then he went around to the driver's side. He watched as Buffy moved closer to Edward and was soon lying with her head in his lap. Edward stroked her head soothingly. Soon Emmet had the car moving and the soothing strokes and the sound of the engine had lulled Buffy to sleep.

Emmet had driven slower than what he and Edward were used too because he didn't want to wake Buffy. The drive from the Seattle airport took them the whole four hours instead of the two it would normally take them at the speeds they were used to going. Several times during the car ride Buffy would become restless caught up in a nightmare. Edward spoke softly to her and would resume stroking her hair and she would settle. Once they had gotten into Forks Buffy began to stir. Her eyes opened slowly to see Edward looking down at her. She smiled up at him and then he helped her to sit up.

"Did you have a nice sleep?"

"I didn't realize just how tired I was. How far away are we?"

"Not far. We just entered Forks." Emmet told her.

"Good, is there food at the house? I'm starving."

"Yes, Carlisle and Esme went this morning. Esme has wanted to try cooking after she saw a program on the television."

"Cool." Buffy said as they left town and turned onto a long winding road several minutes later.

"You should be seeing the house any second."

Ten seconds later the house came into view and Buffy's eyes went wide.

Wow, this place is even more beautiful than the last time I was here.

The car pulled to a stop in front of the house and the front door opened immediately as her cousins, aunt, and uncle came out. Rosalie opened the passenger side door and Edward climbed out and then turned and offered his hand to help her out. She moved slowly and winced when she jarred her ribs. When she was out, standing next to Edward, Carlisle was the first to step up.

"Alice told us some of what happened, and I hope you will tell us the whole story."

"I will as long as you don't mind me staying."

"Of course, not dear you're family. Now let's get you inside so Carlisle can have a look at you." Esme said as she came up giving Buffy a gentle hug and leading her into the house. Esme led her to the couch in the living room. Emmet, Rosalie, and Edward took seats on the floor or in other chairs. Buffy was sitting on the couch between Esme and Carlisle. She looked around wondering where Alice was.

"She and Jasper went out to hunt." Edward told her.

"Jasper wanted to feed before your arrival. Even though you don't smell like food to him your slayer blood is still extremely hard for a vampire still getting used to eating only animal blood." Carlisle told her. "Why don't we start with your arm?"

Buffy nodded and with Esme's help took off the jacket. The bandage that was on Buffy's arm was slowly turning red as blood began to seep through to the outer bandage.

"Esme, I need a basin of water to clean this wound with and a few towels. Edward, can you…"

"I will get her some juice." Edward said heading toward the kitchen.

Esme and Edward arrived back at pretty much the same time. She handed her husband the basin and towels. Edward handed Buffy the juice. She accepted it gratefully sipping it as Carlisle began to stitch her arm.

"Why don't we go and fix Buffy something to eat while Carlisle tends to her injuries. I don't have to be a doctor or a vampire to tell that the poor dear is starving."

The three vampire children followed their mother into the kitchen to prepare something to eat for Buffy.

An hour later Buffy was feeling better after having her arm stitched up and her ribs wrapped tighter. She was thankful they were only bruised. The meal that Esme and the others made for her had been divine as if they had been cooking all their undead life. Now everyone was sitting in the living room once again except Alice and Jasper who were apparently on their way home and should be there any minute. Buffy sat with her head resting on her uncle's chest and her arms wrapped around him hugging him. His were wrapped around her as well content in giving her that feeling of love and safety that she so badly desired. Everyone sat quietly each wondering what had happened to Buffy to make her feel so unwanted. The sound of a car screeching to a stop alerted everyone that Alice and Jasper were home. Alice entered the house quickly and was standing in front of the couch with open arms. Buffy let go of her uncle and stood up to hug Alice.

"I'm so glad you're here. You're much better off here with us and the new slayer is already headed to Sunnydale."

"What's she like?"

"Dark hair unconventional not Council trained."

"I'm glad to know I'm not leaving the Hellmouth unprotected. It's good to see you again Jasper. Buffy held out her hand.

"You too Buffy." Jasper grabbed her hand and pulled her into a hug.

"Alice, Jasper, if you two will have a seat Buffy is going to tell us what happened to bring her here." Carlisle told them.

"On the night of my seventeenth birthday, thanks for the presents by the way, two demonic vamps named Spike and Drusilla were trying to gather the body parts of a demon called the Judge. He was a demon who could literally burn the humanity out of someone. The gang and I were trying to stop them by preventing them from getting the last pieces. Angel and I were patrolling when we were overrun with more vampires than we could handle. We ran and took refuge at Angel's place. That night Angel and I did our own celebrating of my birthday and when I woke up in the morning he was gone. It took me a couple of days to find out that Angel had lost his soul and was now as evil as his two childe Dru and Spike. They resurrected the Judge. The story of the Judge said that he couldn't be killed by any weapon forged by man."

"How did you stop him?" Emmet asked his interest in the story clearly showing on his face.

"My friend Xander broke into a military base and got me a rocket launcher for a present. Xander figured out that a rocket launcher would work because it was forged by machine. Angelus, Spike, Dru, and the Judge were at local mall when I killed the Judge with the rocket launcher. The three vamps had escaped making my life and my friends' life a living hell."

Buffy paused for a moment as she thought of everything that happened. She knew that Edward was picking up on everything she was thinking, and she was okay with that. Taking a deep breath, she continued.

"Then last night we found out that Angelus and his crew were planning on opening Acathla which would bring hell to earth literally. He sent me a note wanting to meet me and I knew it was a trap, but the trap wasn't for me it was for my friends. While Angelus kept me busy Spike and Drusilla went to the library with a gang of vamp minions and attacked my friends. They knocked Xander out and caused a bookcase to fall on Willow also knocking her unconscious. They kidnapped my watcher Giles, hoping he would have the knowledge to open Acathla, and Drusilla killed Kendra the second slayer. She snapped her neck. When I figured out what was going on, I rushed back to the library only to be caught by the police and my principal kneeling over Kendra's body. So, now I'm also wanted for murder."

"What?!" They all cried out at once.

"Sunnydale PD thinks I killed Kendra and running didn't help my case. I'm just lucky that I'm fast and they're bad shots. I was headed for home to gather supplies from my room when Spike caught up with me. He didn't want to see the world end, so we made a deal. I let him and Dru get away and he shows me to Giles. We were right outside the house. Mom opened the door just as a vampire attacked. I dusted him right in front of her and she still denied vampires existed. We argued for a few minutes with me telling her that you Uncle Carlisle were a vampire. She threatened to send me back to that mental institution because she said that obviously the treatments didn't work. She told me she was going to make sure I got locked up for life. Finally, I went up to my room to get my supplies and I came back down. She told me that I wasn't going anywhere and that the police were on their way. I could hear the sirens so I ran as quickly as I could. I was outside Angel's hideout when I met up with Xander who told me Willow had did the spell to restore Angel's soul, but it hadn't worked. Xander and I go in and I fight the vamps while Xander gets Giles out who had been tortured by Angelus. Finally, it came to just Angelus and myself. Since his blood opened Acathla I had to use his blood to close it. Just as I was about to stab him, he looks up at me and calls my name and I knew that somehow Willow's spell had worked, and Angel's soul had returned. The portal was already opened so I told him to close his eyes. I kissed him right before I stabbed him and pushed him into the portal."

By this time Buffy had tears falling freely from her eyes. Edward, Carlisle, and Jasper offered her their handkerchiefs.

"Thank you." Buffy said through her tears taking Carlisle's. "I returned home sneaking into my house to avoid any cops and here I am."

"Alice is right. You are much better off staying here with us." Carlisle told her as he took her in his arms. "We're going to make everything better. Edward please take Buffy upstairs to her room and let her rest. Stay with her."

Edward stood and carefully took Buffy from Carlisle. Buffy went willing, holding on to Edward as if he would disappear if she let go. When Edward was out of the room Carlisle turned to the rest of his family.

"Rosalie, Emmet, see what you can find out about this murder charge? Don't let anyone know that she's here. I'm going to call Joyce and see what I can get from her. If she acts the way Buffy told us, then I will start making plans to adopt Buffy."

Emmet and Rosalie nodded as they headed off to the other room to begin their search.

Carlisle dialed Joyce's home number from his cell and waited for it to connect. He was surprised when he heard the operator come on and say the number had been disconnected. Ending the call, he then tried the number he had for Joyce's cell phone. This time it rang, and he waited for her to answer.

"Hello?"

"Joyce, this is Carlisle. How are you?"

"I'm fine. I'm afraid you caught me in my car."

"Sorry about that. I tried your home number, but it seems to be disconnected. You may want to call the phone company about that. How's Buffy doing?"

"I had the phone disconnected because I'll be moving soon. As for Buffy she ran away last night. I'm afraid her mental state has deteriorated since you last saw her. I was going to send her back to that mental institution, but she never came home."

"You're not worried about her?"

"Honestly, Carlisle I'm not. Buffy made her choice last night and it wasn't me. I will leave word with her friends if she wants to find me, but I don't honestly see that happening."

"I see. Well good luck with your house hunting, and give me a call when you get settled in."

"I will. Bye."

Carlisle hung up the phone and shook his head at his descendant. He would talk to Buffy and see what she wanted to do before making any plans.
