Hi!
My English teacher proposed me to write a text from this prompt:
"Write a short, fictional or nonfictional story with one of the following titles (200-500 words):
A Person Who Changed My Life ~ Guilty Pleasures ~ A Rivalry ~ Things I've Lost ~ Impressed ~ A Feeling That's Hard to Describe ~ Luck ~ Last Time"
So I choose to write about "The Lord of the Ring" with the title "Last time".
I just want to remind you before starting that I do not own the characters, I just borrow them; they are JRR Tolkien's propriety.
I hope you will enjoy it.
LAST TIME
The last time he had seen him, they were hopeless. Their enemies were at their door. They had to keep fighting. They had killed thousands of them, but more had come back continuously.
The last time he had seen him they had just received a message from Elrond. It was not a hope of victory but a possibility to limit the damages, to have some time to breathe.
The last time he had seen him, he had not hesitated to send him on this dangerous journey. He was his best warrior, he was the one who had to go.
The last news he had from him was that he had left Rivendell with eight other companions, some he already knew for their valour and others… about whom he was very uncertain.
He was sitting on his throne, alone in this big room with a glass of wine. He was realizing that the last time he had seen his son, he hadn't told him how much he loved him. He was realizing it had been a very long time that he hadn't told him these words, a long time before he left, too long.
For too long he had been struggling with the orks. He had the feeling of fighting alone, of sending his people into the front line to protect populations who didn't care of them. No one had come to help them. No one had wanted to take the risk.
So, every day they were fighting.
Every day they were counting the dead.
Every day they were grieving.
Every day he had to make decisions which, maybe, would lead his warriors to death.
Every day he had forgotten that his son was not only his best warrior, not only one of his captains, not only a soldier but his son. He had forgotten that his son was the most important person in his life and in his heart.
But on this special day his love for his son was foremost in his thoughts .
On this special day, he couldn't regret more not having told him more in the past.
On this special day, it was his son's birthday and he was not sure of seeing him again. He had already lost his wife to this dreadful war, he didn't want lose another loved one.
On this special day, he regretted not having embraced his son before he left. He regretted not having told him how proud of him he was. He regretted not having told him how much he loved him.
And he stayed alone with his glass of wine, with his regrets, with his doubts, with his fears, with his tears.
Hope you enjoyed it.
