Hetty looked around her house with wonder, and gratitude, and felt something. She wondered what that feeling was.
And did some thinking.
It had been 3 months since she went to see her old Vietnam pal, Keane, in prison. She had listened to his awful story of what had happened to him after that plane crash that had killed everyone but her. (On a previous visit, he told her that he had also survived the crash, and that she could've helped him, except she had no idea that he was still alive, she thought she was the only survivor.) She took pity on him, and asked that he be freed. Except, it was a trap. And SHE ended up in captivity.
3 months of being pushed and shoved around, treated like dirt, tortured, nearly killed in a very gruesome way, until her team showed up.
She spent 3 days in the hospital. After getting out, She had gone to her house on Rose Lane, spent the day cleaning it (and herself) up. Then the next day, She got a place for Keane to stay.
Today,2 days afterwards, She had taken him home. She spent the day with him to help him get adjusted.
She got home, and found another 'Welcome home we hope you're ok!' basket from Nell and Eric on her doorstep (they had given her one when she got home after being released from the hospital).
As she poured herself a cup of Scotch and looked at the basket on the table, She then knew what that feeling was.
'Home. I am home.'
