Straw Hat RWBYs
An: Ok! So, this idea came to me after reading I Am The Prophet's story "The New Era of Remnant," and I really wanted to write it, considering One Piece and RWBY are my favorite shows of all time. His story is, to me, one of the best One Piece/RWBY crosses out there, so if you are interested in reading it, I highly recommend it! It's really well done, and I find myself rereading it all the time when on break at work.
My story will take place just after Vol. 2 for RWBY, and just before the Baratie arc for One Piece and will chronicle RWBY's adventures with the Straw Hat Pirates. I will not be focusing on romance for this fic, but there might be a few shipping moments sprinkled in here and there, but they will not have much prominence in this fic. Just the antics that the Straw Hats get into on a daily basis, with team RWBY along for the ride.
And with that stuff out of the way, enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own One Piece or RWBY.
Chapter One-Mysterious disappearances and mysterious arrivals! Landing aboard the Going Merry!
"Bumblebee!" With a throw, Blake casted her Gambol Shroud to her teammate Yang, who grabbed it effortlessly. The amber eyed Huntress in training tightened her grip on Gambol Shroud's ribbon and spun her blonde partner around, with said blonde sending a concussive blast of energy from her Ember Celica to gain momentum. With a shout, Blake threw Yang at an Ursa, and Yang cocked her fist back, flicking her wrist to load her gantlet with a fire Dust round. A quick wink later, the brawler slammed her fist into the bear Grimm's head, sending it flying into a boulder. It broke apart under the force.
"Ladybug!" The disguised cat Faunus retrieved her weapon and moved to a small group of Beowolves. Using her Aura enhanced speed, Blake raced forward and cut through one Beowolf's torso while her team leader, Ruby, fired a round from her sniper-scythe Crescent Rose to propel herself forward to cut through the same Grimm's waist. The Beowolf faded to mist as Blake used her Semblance to redirect herself to another wolf Grimm while Ruby fired off another round to do the same. They continued to do this maneuver several times until the Grimm were all vanquished.
"Ice Flower!" Just as Ruby finished calling out the attack, her partner Weiss Schnee appeared beside her and summoned a Glyph. Ruby twirled towards the sigil and slammed Crescent Rose's scythe into the ground and began firing shots at incoming aerial Grimm. The shots hit with impressive stopping force as well as froze the targets solid.
"Sunflower!" Ruby ripped Crescent Rose out of the earth and backflipped towards her sister. Yang rolled forward until she was hand standing. The silver eyed girl landed feet first on Yang's outstretched feet and braced herself. Yang fired off Ember Celica while pushing Ruby into the air. Ruby spun in the air and spun Crescent Rose around, cutting through multiple Grimm with ease.
The leader of team RWBY landed on her feet with a smile. "And that's the last of them!" she announced proudly as she surveyed the area around her team and herself. Yang came up behind her, brushing off dust from her arms.
"And once again we Rose to the occasion, eh? Eh?" Yang asked, grinning at her clever pun.
Weiss groaned from one side of Ruby. "Yang remind me again why you think you're funny?" she asked as she sheathed Myrtenaster.
The lilac eyed Huntress in training pouted at the heiress. "Hey! That was gold!"
"Sorry, Yang, but it wasn't," Blake said calmly as she walked up to Ruby's other side. She pulled out a book and opened it to a bookmarked position. "It was a three, at best."
"A three?!"
"Blake, that's not fair," Ruby said, making Yang smile. For a moment. "You forgot about two zeroes behind that three and a negative sign in front." Yang's face fell.
"You girls are nothing but critics!"
"Thank you!" Weiss said, flicking the hair from her ponytail over her shoulder. "We do try our best!"
"That wasn't a compliment!" Before an argument could break out, Ruby decided to speak up.
"Aaannnyyyyways," Ruby said as she pulled out her Scroll. "I guess it's time we phone Professor Oobleck and tell him we've finished with the mission."
The girls could have sworn they heard their history teacher scream out "DOCTOR!" even though he was all the way back at Beacon. Ruby thought nothing of it as she dialed up her teacher's number. The green haired Bartholomew Oobleck answered on the second ring.
"Ah, yes, hello?! Team RWBY, is this you?!" the caffeine addicted teacher asked in his rapid tone.
"Yes sir, Professor-" Ruby tried to say, but was interrupted by Oobleck.
"Doctor! I did not achieve my doctorate for nothing, you know!" the Huntsman shouted.
Ruby winced at the volume. "Uh, yeah, sorry Doctor Oobleck," she said. "A-Anyways, I was just calling to tell you we have completed our mission!"
"Splendid! Splendid! Excellent work, Team RWBY!" Oobleck spoke again. "Very, very excellent work! Now then, report to the extraction point, and we'll get you back to the academy!"
"Roger that! Ruby out!" The red themed girl was about to end the call when suddenly the world shook. The four girls cried out as they attempted to stay stationary before they were thrown to the ground violently.
"What the heck was that?!" Weiss shouted.
"Team RWBY! Are you ok?!" Oobleck's voice came from the Scroll, though he sounded rattled himself.
"Y-Yeah! W-We're fine!" Ruby said, shakily returning to her feet. "B-But that was a really powerful earthquake! Was that an earthquake?! I've felt one before-"
Suddenly the ground shook again with increased in intensity. The girls were again thrown to the ground with exclamations of surprise as the shaking worsened. Trees began uprooting, and the ground broke upwards in large slabs. The all-girl team could only stay in their downed positions and ride out the quake as it continued to tear up the forest around them.
KA-BOOM!
A loud explosion above them caught their attention as they all looked up, wondering what was happening this time. All four of them gasped at the sight of a multicolored mist flowed out of a literal hole in the sky!
"W-What the heck is that…?!" Weiss shouted.
"TEAM RWBY! WHAT IS GOING ON OVER THERE?!" Oobleck's shout came from the Scroll again.
"I-I-I-I don't know!" Ruby stammered. "T-T-T-There's a l-literal hole in the sky!"
"A WHAT?!"
"Look!" Ruby held up the Scroll to show her teacher what the issue was. From behind the Scroll's holo-screen, the silver eyed maiden could see Oobleck's face.
"Get out of there! Get the extraction point NOW!" Just as Oobleck said that, the rainbow-colored mist began falling around the girls.
They girls tried their best to return to their feet, but the shaking earth made it difficult. The mist reached the ground and started gathering around them. Ruby unfurled Crescent Rose and used it to force herself up. Weiss and Blake used their respective weapons to do the same as Yang simply slammed her fists into the ground to propel herself onto her feet.
The girls were about to try and make their way to the extraction point, but by that point, the multicolored mist was akin to solid wall, not allowing the all-girl team to see two feet in front of them. They stumbled into each other's backs as the shaking lessened. The girls braced themselves, but before they could, a loud boom of thunder disoriented them which was accompanied by the sense of falling.
Meanwhile
Luffy was shaking with glee. How could he not? He finally had a ship! And it was AWESOME! The sheep head was his new favorite spot on the whole vessel. It allowed him to see everything coming his way!
The seventeen-year-old pirate captain sat cross-legged as he stared straight ahead of him, his hand holding his precious straw hat to his head. It was only a few hours since they left Gaimon, and according to Nami, it would be smooth sailing to the next island. Luffy was ecstatic.
"Tada!" cried Usopp as he held a black flag up in the air. "What do you think of my masterpiece?!" Everyone turned to see the long-nosed teen. The black flag in his grasp was emblazoned with a side view of a long-nosed skull with a bandana wrapped around the top of the skull. A slingshot was crossed with a femur bone behind the skull.
"WHOOOAAAAAAA! USOPP!" Luffy shouted exuberantly. "THAT'S SO GOOD!"
"Heh!" Usopp looked rather smug as he held his head high and rubbed his nose. "This was nothing! I really could have done this in my sleep!"
"REALLY?!"
"Of course! This is one my many talents!"
"I've gotta admit, Usopp, it is remarkably done!" Nami praised, honestly shocked at how good it was. Usopp just chuckled happily at the praise.
"DO ONE FOR ZORO NEXT! DO ZORO ONE!" Luffy ordered gleefully, causing the green haired swordsman to open one eye, wondering what his wayward captain was up to this time.
Usopp, eager to display his skills, did so without much protest, and in record time, he had another Jolly Roger ready for presentation, this one with Zoro in mind. The skull was a traditional forward-facing skull with a dark bandana wrapped around the cranium with the crossbones replaced with swords, whilst another was crossed horizontally behind the teeth of the skull. Luffy laughed joyfully.
"WHOOOAAAA! It's doing Zoro's three sword style!" Luffy exclaimed.
"Wow! You really captured Zoro's image for this! Great job!" Nami commented again.
"Hmph. Not bad, Usopp," Zoro commented from his spot by the railing. It looked cool. Hell, unbidden images of himself sailing under such a flag flashed through Zoro's mind for a moment.
Usopp grinned widely at the swordsman's approval, but before he could say anything, Luffy was shouting again. "NAMI! DO ONE FOR NAMI NOW!"
"Sure thing!" Within several minutes, it was ready. It was unique in design. Instead of teeth, the skull looked to be sticking its tongue out while one was represented by a half-crescent line, making it seem the skull was winking. A blue and white stripped bandana wrapped around the top of the skull with orange curls off to the sides with a single hand sticking out with two fingers curled to make a circle and the others splayed out completed the image.
"THAT'S SOO COOOOL!"
"Wow! Look at how cute it is! Nice job, Usopp!" Nami complimented. It was so much nicer than…She shook her head. No. She couldn't think about that right now.
Luckily, no one seemed to notice her as Usopp was grinning widely as he wiped some sweat from his brow. "Whew! Who knew painting could be so draining?" he asked as he sat down on the deck.
"DO ME! DO MINE NEXT! MINE NEXT!" Luffy ordered impatiently.
"Ok! Ok! Sheesh!" Usopp sighed as he fished out another black piece of fabric and set to work. Compared to the others he drew; this one was the most simplistic of the bunch. Just a simple skull and crossbones image on a field of black, with the small addition of Luffy's customary Straw Hat sitting on top of the skull.
It wasn't as spectacular as the other ones, but to Luffy, it was perfect.
"Perfect!" Luffy grabbed the flag from Usopp and held it high. "This is it, guys! Our crew's symbol!"
"Wait what?" Usopp looked confused. "Why?" He looked at his Jolly Roger and then to the one he made for Luffy.
"Duh! I'm the captain; this is my crew; so, my flag!" Luffy said simply.
"Why not this one?!"
"Usopp, that's got your nose and slingshot on it."
"And?!"
"You're not the captain. I am."
"Oh, come on!"
"Give it up, Usopp," Zoro told the liar. Usopp was about to retort when the ship suddenly lurched to the side, nearly sending the three occupants overboard.
"Aaahhh!" Nami screamed as she caught herself on the railing. "What the heck?!"
Zoro tumbled as he rolled towards the navigator, but he was able to avoid her and land feet first on the railing with a grunt. Usopp screamed in terror as he flew down to the railing and got his head stuck in-between two balusters. Luffy let out a loud "WHOA!" as he fell backwards and hit the railing with this back.
The ship righted itself only for it to slosh forward, nearly throwing the tiny crew of the Merry off their feet again. They looked around and saw the sea become choppy and violent. The sky grew dark, and Nami paled. "A storm?!" How did she not see it coming?!
"But it was just super calm a minute ago!" Usopp cried frantically.
"Well, it's not anymore, is it?!"
Suddenly, the lurched again, nearly throwing them off the side again. Nami and Usopp screamed in terror as they latched onto each other. Zoro grabbed the railing to keep from falling overboard, and he quickly reached out and grabbed Luffy before he could fly into the ocean.
"If we don't do something soon, we're going to capsize!" Zoro shouted. That snapped Nami out of her funk, and she quickly pushed Usopp away. The liar cried indignantly.
"Right! Usopp! You and Luffy keep the mast from breaking apart! Zoro! Get to the helm and veer us ninety degrees to port!"
"Right!" The three males of the Straw Hat crew ran off to do their assigned tasks. Zoro jumped to the upper deck in a show of superior strength and raced into the longue area as Usopp and Luffy fumbled with the ropes and tried to keep the mast from turning too far to one side. Nami scanned the horizon attentively, hoping to identify something that could get them out of this situation.
KA-BOOM!
A sudden drum of thunder shouted through the area, disorienting the Straw Hats for a moment. Usopp shook himself and looked back to the mast, only to scream out in terror. "WHAT IS THAT?!" he screamed, pointing up at the sky.
Nami and Luffy looked up and gaped at the sight of a large gash across the sky that began leaking rainbow-colored mist. "WHAT THE-?! WHY IS THERE A HOLE IN THE SKY?!"
Luffy laughed loudly. "THIS IS GETTING CRAZY!" he announced.
"DON'T SOUND SO HAPPY ABOUT IT!" Nami and Usopp shrieked at him.
"OI! WHAT'S GOING ON OUT THERE?!" Zoro shouted from the longue.
Nami was about to yell at him, when suddenly, the sea calmed. The sky cleared, and the rip in the sky vanished. The orange haired navigator looked up in shock. "What the hell?! It just vanished!"
"Whew! I thought we were gonna be fish food for a moment there!" Luffy said, laughing.
"Why are you laughing, you idiot?!" Nami yelled at him, but suddenly they heard screams from above them. They looked up and around, trying to locate the sounds. Zoro, upon feeling the ship stop shaking, came out of the longue to see his three crewmates looking up. He raised an eyebrow at them.
"What's wrong now?" he asked. "Storm's over, isn't it?"
"Don't you hear the screaming, Zoro?" Usopp asked.
"Screaming?" Zoro was confused for a moment, but he listened anyway. He did hear something, but it wasn't screaming. "I only hear gunshots."
"Yeah, I hear it, too," Luffy said in confusion.
"Up there!" The young men looked to where Nami was pointing and were greeted with the site of four distinct colors; red, yellow, white, and black; falling from the sky. Zoro squinted at the blurs. "What are those?"
"I have no clue," Nami said. "Man, I wish I had some binoculars or something."
"Uh guys…!" Usopp called out. "T-Those blurs are coming right at us!"
"Wait, those aren't blurs…they're people!" Luffy said suddenly.
"Huh?!" The three teens just in time to see four people land on the deck of the Merry, about the same age as themselves. Nami could tell they were all girls, and each was wielding a weapon.
Usopp screamed in terror as Luffy utterly amazed. "Is that a scythe?!" they screamed, for different reasons. This caused the girls to turn to them in surprise, quickly bringing their weapons up in defensive stances.
"Who are you people?!" the scythe wielder demanded, and Nami noted she looked a little younger than herself, maybe fourteen or fifteen at the most.
"We should be asking you that," Zoro commented, placing a hand on his swords. "You landed on our ship, after all."
"Ship?" the white haired one asked, lowering a menacingly looking rapier with...was that a revolver chamber above the hilt?
"Hey! You four!" The girls were startled when Luffy suddenly appeared in front of them. "Are you aliens?!"
Of course, leave it to Luffy to totally focus on a random thought and then say it without an ounce of decorum. The statement caused the girls to stare at him in complete bewilderment.
AN: And that's the first chapter! I hope y'all enjoyed it!
The next chapter will be out within a week or two; I'm trying something new out to try and get chapters out quicker. Here's to hoping this new move of mine pays off! Until next time!
