Chapter 1 Emotional Morning

Sunrises were the best. The blends of pinks and reds, oranges and yellows. It was like a skilled painter had taken a delicate brush to the sky, a brush coated in exquisite water color paints. The softness of the yellows and the punching captivity of the oranges made Princess Aqua want to swoon.

The young girl sat on top of a cliff overlooking her Kingdom, taking in the brilliance of the sunrise. She wanted to talk with whoever was responsible for this masterpiece. She wanted to converse with them, have lunch with them, and tell them what a genius artist they were. Aqua could never do something like this, at least not to the same degree. Sure, she could paint, but she wouldn't have the same eye for color as the person who had painted the sky.

Aqua heard footsteps approaching, laying softly upon the ground. It was almost as if the person was gliding rather than walking. Aqua turned and saw Nimue, the Loch Lady. She was carrying two things; a batch of strawberry waffles and FLUDD. FLUDD was probably asleep; he usually was at times like this.

"I must say, your highness," Nimue said as she laid the waffles by the princess's side. "Finding you this morning was very difficult."

Aqua giggled and blushed, hiding her crimson complexion behind her chocolate brown hair.

"I'll admit that I wasn't exactly trying to let myself be found."

Nimue smiled and handed Aqua a fork. The princess took humongous chunks out of the plaid, sugary sweets and shoveled them into her mouth. Nimue gently sat FLUDD beside her.

"I'll be down in the castle," she said. With that, she was off. Aqua looked down at her old FLUDD pack. He was very rarely actually utilized nowadays. He just spent most of his time acting as a companion, not a weapon.

"FLUDD, wake up."

A whirring sound occurred as FLUDD's motor spurred to life. His nozzle-like head rotated every which way until he looked directly into Aqua's face.

"Is it morning already?"

Aqua nodded as she took another bite of waffles.

"Yes, it is."

FLUDD laughed. It was such an awkward mechanical sound. Yet at the same time it was lovely, as it was proof that the machine could express and feel joy.

"That's a shame. I was having the most amazing dream."

Aqua perked up in interest.

"What were you dreaming about?"

FLUDD hesitated.

"Your sister," he said with a hint of embarrassment in his tone. Aqua was shocked.

"My sister?" She stared down at FLUDD, feeling the strongest desire to fish for more info. "Which sister?"

"Peach," FLUDD said after another pause. "She was….kissing me."

Aqua spat out her waffles pieces. They flew over the cliff and landed with a sploosh in the water, where they were then nibbled on by hungry cheep cheeps.

"Kissing you?" Aqua exclaimed. "FLUDD, that's just….EWW!"

"I'm sorry. I probably shouldn't have said it. But it really was an incredible dream."

Aqua put her hand to her mouth to act as a blockade for any vomit.

"You are getting weirder and weirder everyday. First the dream that Mario rescued you from Bowser, then the dream that Luigi and Daisy asked you to be their ring bearer, and now this? FLUDD, do you think it is possible that you are malfunctioning?"

FLUDD let out a sigh.

"I will admit that such a thought has occurred to me. But mostly, it is due to the intensity of my new emotions. Ever since Professor Elvin has given me the new chip, I've felt more and more. Terror. Love. Zest. It's...it scares me."

Aqua looked at her friend in sympathy. Emotions must be really hard for a machine to handle. Even people had trouble comprehending how to handle them. Aqua herself had emotional troubles, especially after her parents were killed by Bowser six years ago.

"I don't blame you," she said. "I would think that something was wrong with me too."

The two sat in silence. Blues and whites were waging a war against the yellows and pinks of the sky. Both sets of colors wanted dominance. Of course, the blues and white would win in the end, as they always did.

"Aqua? Do you think that we can call Professor E. Gadd? Just to make sure that the chip isn't functioning?"

Aqua didn't even have to hesitate.

"Of course, FLUDD."

"Don't you worry about a thing, girly," Professor E. Gadd said over the phone. "FLUDD is in shipshape."

"Are you sure?" Aqua asked incredulously. "He says that he's scared."

"Codswallop," Elvin said. "He's just new to these feelings. He will get used to them in time. That's what my robotic dog, Marvin, did."

Aqua heard a mechanical, metallic bark on the other side of the line.

"Who's a good little doggy? Who's a good little doggy?" E. Gadd sweet talked the robot. Aqua sighed and hung up the phone.

"Well, he says you're fine," she told FLUDD.

"Really? I mean, I don't feel fine."

"That's just because you're new to this. All you really need is some love and support." Aqua smiled. "Thankfully, you have that in spades."

FLUDD tilted his head ever so slightly to the left. Since he didn't have a mouth, that was usually his way of smiling.

"Thank you, Aqua."

Aqua smiled down at FLUDD before the phone rang again. She looked at it in wonder.

"Who could that be?"

AN: Happy birthday, mariobroultimate! I hope that you are enjoying your present so far!

For those who are unaware, Princess Aqua is an OC of mariobroultimate's. I got permission to use her in this story. I aged her up a little bit in this instance, as she is now ten.

So, who is calling Aqua? Will the cliffhanger be resolved? I guess you'll have to find out next chapter!

Anyway, stay safe and stay awesome :)
