"You know if you really wanna be a hero that badly there might actually be another way. Just pray that you'll be born with a quirk in the next life and take a swan dive off the roof of the building."

-He didn't mean it.-

He was just trying to protect him. And now here he was, staring up at Midoriya. He stood there at the top of the building, not even looking down at the crowd that screamed and shouted his name, telling him not to do it. The sight shook him to his core.

"Hey, Bakugo? We'll be best friends forever, right?"

"Obviously, Deku. We'll always be together."

-He didn't mean it.-

A memory from childhood flashed through his mind, seemingly stabbing him in the heart from the pain it caused.. It had been a long while since he'd remembered his childhood. He never looked back, after all.

A startled scream left young Izuku's throat as Bakugo jumped out from behind a wall and tackled him. Izuku then began to cry as when he fell he'd hit his head.

"What's wrong, Deku?"

"You made me hit my head." Izuku sniffed.

"I didn't mean to Deku. I'd never hurt you on purpose."

-He didn't mean it.-

He bit his lip and sprinted into the building, using his explosions to shoot himself up the stairs as fast as he could. He needed to be fast. He needed to get there on time. He couldn't let the nerd fall.

"Deku!"

The green haired boy had tripped and began to fall towards the river below the bridge they were on. Luckily enough his friend caught his hand and began to pull him up. He got back on the bridge and there were tears in his eyes as he hugged his friend. "You saved me."

"Of course. I'll always be here to help you."

-He didn't mean it.-

He couldn't help but wonder if Deku had been feeling like doing this for long? He pushed the door to the roof open and was almost relieved at the sight of Deku still standing there. He was still alive, and he'd made it to the roof on time. That was one step closer to Deku being safe.

"Bakugo your quirk is really cool! I can't wait until I get mine."

"You've already said that. And I'll use my quirk to keep you safe until you get yours."

-He didn't mean it.-

Deku turned around and looked his old friend in the eyes, though it must've been hard to see with the tears that were flowing out in bucket loads. The blond couldn't take it anymore, reaching out his hand weakly. "Midoriya, please…" he struggled out, his voice cracking slightly.

"Do you think I'll have a good quirk?" He asked quietly. "In my next life."

Bakugo choked a little on a sob. "Don't do it…"

"I thought we'd always be together."

"We can… please just come closer to me."

"Why?"

"I want to keep you safe, Deku."

Midoriya took a step backwards, towards the edge. "It's already too late for that."

"Deku…" his words caught in his throat. "Deku if you step off this roof then I am going straight after you."

Midoriya's eyes widened slightly. "No you won't. You'll live, and you'll be a hero."

"I could never be a hero if I managed to drive the person I love to suicide."

"... Love?"

Bakugo sighed shakily. "Please, Midoriya-"

He shook his head. "I don't like that. That's not what you call me. I'm Deku. I'm a stupid nerd, right?"

"Midoriya…" he opened his arms. "Fuck… I don't know what words you need to hear to step away from the edge, but if I did I would say them."

Midoriya sighed and turned around, giving Bakugo the opportunity to quietly walk over without startling the boy. Once he got within arms reach he grabbed the back of Midoriya's collar and pulled him back towards him. The two both cried, Bakugo holding Midoriya with his arms around his waist.

It was strange for Midoriya as he collapsed to the floor, Bakugo coming down with him and hugging him tighter whilst crying into his shoulder.

"Midoriya, I'm so sorry!" He sobbed. "I've been such an ass to you and I had no right. I wanted to protect you! I-I thought that if you became a quirkless hero you would get hurt but… I never realised how much I was hurting you! I don't want your forgiveness, I just want you to promise me… promise me you won't ever try to do this again!"

Midoriya had slowly slipped back to his numbness as Bakugo spoke so he gave a fake sigh of defeat. "I promise."

-He didn't mean it.-
