Another one-shot . I'm hitting an early writers block on The Blue Flame, so I'm busting my butt on one-shots for a bit! Featuring Bluefur and Oakheart, in his POV!

Just Talking

As the moon rose in the star filled sky, a dark, umber brown tom lowered himself into the water, barely shivering at the cold touch. He quietly paddled across the shallow pond that surrounded his clan's camp, shaking his pelt clear of water once he climbed back onto shore. His eyes scanned the dark forest that greeted him, and he started off towards Fourtrees.

Oakheart's whole body warmed at the thought of seeing her again. Bluefur. She was a beautiful blue-gray she-cat with bright, pale blue eyes. It took a lot of convincing, but eventually he'd persuaded her to meet him at Fourtrees again. The only problem? They were from different clans; Oakheart in RiverClan, and Bluefur in ThunderClan.

He wondered which one of them would arrive first. He had a bit longer to go than she did, but most of the time he would wait a bit before Bluefur arrived. He guessed it was because she was paranoid about being caught; if Oakheart himself were to get caught, however, he would probably say he was going to use the dirtplace. For Bluefur it was different, because she was a lot more strict about the rules than he was.

The RiverClan tom jumped up on the Highrock, drinking in the cool night air. He scented Bluefur already, to his surprise, and she was closer than he expected. His whiskers twitched when he saw her exiting a bush in surrounding woods. "Oakheart... hi," she meowed. "Hi." He jumped down and padded up to Bluefur, nuzzling her neck. Then she pulled away. "Oakheart, I... I need to talk to you about something..."

His mate looked uncomfortable, avoiding his gaze and shuffling her paws. "Bluefur?" he mewed, sitting beside her and entwining his tail with hers. She glanced his way, her blue eyes shining. Oakheart took this as a sign of affection, but he could see the nervousness in her gaze. Then she signed and stood up, padding up to the Highrock and leaping up. He followed, beginning to feel a bit concerned at her behavior. "Bluefur? What's wrong?" he whispered, gently licking her forehead. "Oakheart... I'm... going to have kits... your kits," she meowed, looking down at the grass below them. Oakheart's heart soared, and he smiled and nuzzled her again. "Oakheart! This is not a good thing!" Bluefur protested, backing away and giving him a pleading look.

"But, Bluefur, this is wonderful news! Why isn't this something to be proud of?" he asked, deeply confused and a bit hurt. "Listen... if we were from the same clan, this would be the best thing that could happen to us, but... Oakheart, don't you see? Our kits will suffer because they will be half-clan! I don't want them to be unaccepted and... and..." Bluefur choked, looking down at her paws. Oakheart gently touched his nose to her cheek, comforting her. "It's ok... I understand. But these kits... our kits... will be as strong as you are. Bluefur, no matter what you choose to do with them, I will always love you."

The blue-gray she-cat looked at him, their eyes meeting once more. "I love you too. But, what will we do? I think... I think they should live in ThunderClan, with me, because... there's a tom that's taken a liking to me anyway... and even if I don't return his feelings, I could say he's their father..."

Oakheart felt almost heartbroken, but he nodded and smiled softly at her. "Bluefur, it would be so much easier if you brought them to RiverClan! And I'm not trying to take them from you, it's just that... they are my kits, too. I want them to have a good life." Bluefur sighed. "I... I have to leave. Here's a thought, though. What if they were born in ThunderClan, and when they were old enough, I could bring them to your clan. I'll say a badger stole them, or a starving fox took them." Oakheart twitched his whiskers thoughtfully. "I suppose... if you must leave, then, at least give me a proper goodbye." Bluefur smiled and nuzzled his neck, licking his muzzle. "I love you," she whispered. "I love you too..." Bluefur jumped down, gave him one last warm smile, and disappeared into the forest. Oakheart decided he had no reason to stay, and left to go home. Oh, Bluefur, he thought, I hope you made the right choice...
