Just some quick fun for our Faves. Enjoy
The banging on the door was not only annoyingly persistent but rude. Rolling over and fumbling around for the phone to check the clock he groaned when it said 235am. It was the dead of night, they'd worked for almost twenty-fours straight and falling into bed a little less than three hours ago was bad enough.
What in the holy hell was going on now. Anything less than a natural disaster was going to piss him off.
Peering through the spy hole he was surprised by his visitor. "Well, well come to your senses finally?"
"I didn't know where else to go, I need help." Kim was standing in his doorway in her Pyjama's looking awfully cute and very flustered.
Suddenly he was wide awake, all his senses alert and his heart thudded wildly in his chest. "What?" he grabbed her by the arm and pulled her inside his apartment. Flicking on the light he looked her over, tilting her face upwards out of the shadows to make sure she wasn't hurt. "What? Who hurt you? Where are you hurt? Did you call the cops?" That's where his mind went, expect and prepare for the worse and nine times out of ten it was never as bad as you expected.
"No, no, calm down. I'm fine." She flapped her arms wildly. She looked anything but fine.
"Okay, what do you need? Is someone sick?" He was still panicking, this was freaking him out. He was sure it wasn't work related because of the fact she was in her Pyjamas. If they had a job she'd at least get dressed. "Did someone die? Kevin?"
"No shut up. He's fine, I guess. I don't know."
"You are making no sense… at all."
"It's my place. I need help. I heard a noise…"
"A noise?" He was pretty sure he hadn't heard that right.
"Yes, a noise in the kitchen and I opened the cupboards and there was a rat and it had rat babies."
He blinked a couple of times. She couldn't be serious. "Sorry? Come again?"
"A rat had rat babies, in my house. I can't stay there. You need to get rid of them."
"Me?" Adam gasped. "It's two thirty fucking AM and you drove twenty minutes to tell me you've got rat babies?"
"Yes." Kim answered like it was the most rational thing she'd even done. It was so far from rational, it was actually absurd.
"You could've called?"
"But then I'd have to stay there with them."
"The Rat babies?" he repeated.
"Yes, we've established I have rat babies." Kim snapped. "Can you help?"
He shook his head, trying desperately to hide his smirk. The way Kim was looking at him she'd probably wipe that smirk off his face with the back of her hand. "Not at two-thirty Am I can't."
"What am I supposed to do?" Kim pouted, stamping her feet a little.
"You could have shot them?" Judging by the look he got that went down like a lead balloon. Perhaps he was lucky she wasn't armed, she'd probably shoot him right now. "How about sleep?"
"I can't sleep at my place because…"
"Of the rat babies." He couldn't help himself, he laughed. "So sleep here."
"I can't."
"Why not? I don't have rat babies here." He grabbed her by the shoulders. "Look, Kim. Sleep here, take my bed. I'll sleep on the couch and in the morning, which is less than four hours away I might add, we will go and sort out your rat babies."
"Can you stop saying that?"
"What?"
"Rat babies."
This would have to be the most ridiculous conversation he'd ever had in the middle of the night and he'd had some nights when he was drunk as a skunk and he would still argue nothing he said then was as insane as this. Even the nights they were out arresting the weird and wonderful citizens of Chicago was nothing compared to having a Pyjama clad woman standing in your lounge room freaking out over rat babies in her kitchen.
"Okay Little Miss Hysterical. Do you think you are calm enough to go to sleep?"
"No, yes, I think so." Suddenly Kim realised that he was just in a pair of sleep shorts and that was it. "Can you put a shirt on?"
"Ummm, you showed up here, in the middle of the night in a flat panic, sorry I'm not suitably dressed." Adam smirked. "Anyway you like it." He winked.
"Whatever." He caught the faintest of smiles. "I think I need to sleep. I think I might be a little overtired and therefore maybe a touch irrational."
"A touch?" Adam raised one eyebrow. "Anyway…" he pointed to the bedroom. "You know the way."
"You coming?"
He certainly didn't need to be asked twice. Sleeping on his couch was not appealing, it was the most uncomfortable couch for sleeping. His legs always hung over the edge and he'd wake up with a crick in his neck. His bed was definitely the preferred option, especially with his rat baby mother beside him.
Kim crawled under the covers.
Flicking off the lights Adam climbed into bed. He hadn't bothered to put a shirt on. She wanted to sleep in his bed she got him as he was. "Kim this is nice and all but you don't have to pretend you have rat babies to sleep in my bed. All you need to say is Adam can I sleep with you and I'm all in."
"Shut up."
"So how many rat babies are we talking about?"
"I don't know. Why does it matter?"
Kim could feel that Adam was facing her, she could feel his breathing and feel his heat. It was very distracting. "Well I need to formulate a plan to rid your home of the plague. Like if it's a hundred rat babies then I'll need reinforcements and more traps or maybe a flame thrower."
"Are you going to kill them?" He was surprised at how alarmed she sounded. How the hell did she think he was going to get rid of them?
"Oh so now you love your rat babies?"
She begged his to stop and placed a hand on his chest. It was warm and she felt the steady rise and fall of his chest was actually soothing.
"This is going to cost you big time."
"Right now I'd pay anything."
"I accept payment in advance." Even though it was dark she could tell he was smirking. He was frustratingly flirty and he did it knowing how much she liked it.
"We need to sleep."
It wasn't surprising that when he woke up Kim was curled into his side. He liked her here, however absurd the reason was. It was almost instinct that he kissed the top of her head. "Morning." Kim stirred a little. "My little rat mother."
"Oh, god." She buried her face into his chest. "I was insane wasn't I?"
"A little." He stroked the back of her head. "I like that you came to me though. I like saving damsels in distress."
"You're my hero."
He rolled onto his back. "Great, you remember that when I am screaming like a girl when your rat babies come at me."
"Do you hate rats?"
"With the power of a thousand men." Easing out of bed he sat on the edge and looked back at Kim. "But I'll save you Darlin'."
