26A golden age of heroes protected the world for decades.
That ended ten years ago...With the death of all heroes.
Pat Dugan was driving up to the home of the Justice Society of America and the Avengers as fast as he could after he got word of an surprised invasion involving all their enemies and he stopped when he saw lightning getting shot from the roof, followed by someone being dropped from the air.
Pat ran out and sees the person thrown out of the building was the Falcon and sees his wings are destroyed,dead along with Red Wing, his partner falcon.
"Falcon?" Pat asks, shocked he's been killed.
He quickly runs into the house and noticed Captain America's shield is broken in half, along with seeing the helmet of the Flash, belt buckle for Black Widow, and the hammer of Thor laying on the ground.
Iron Man comes flying in and sends a repulser blast towards a gigantic pile of goo that's alive as it screeches in pain, but sends a tentacle arm at Iron Man, sending him away.
The Human Torch comes flying in on fire and sends a blast of heat at Icicle, across the building.
The Invisible Woman and Brainwave are having a mental fight with one another when Whiplash interupts them.
The Hulk comes rampaging through, fighting Abomination.
Wildcat fighting Sportsmaster when he gets hit by a puck explosive, shooting him through two the wall.
The Thing was fighting Grundy when the Wizard immobilized him and started getting clobbered.
Spider-Woman came in swinging down to help but ends up fighting the dark magicians.
Dr. Mid-Nite gets attacked and stabbed by a magic sphere that was thrown from Kaecillious.
"Stripesy?" Johnny asks, seeing him. "Get out! Run!" He warns him when Klaw sends a solid pulse, sending him and Hourman flying.
Iron Man gets thrown into the ground by Whiplash.
"Welcome to the show." Kaecilius says as he approaches Pat with Wizard when a beam of light comes in and sends them flying.
Starman comes flying in and stops the enemies from getting Pat and fights Tigress and Sportsmaster easily.
"I told you to wait in the car!" Starman tells Pat when he starts to float in the air because of Brainwave. He uses his staff to blast at Brainwave but he was able to stop the beam for a minute . He gets the upper hand and turns only to get stabbed in the stomach by an icicle and drops to the ground.
"Starman!" Pat yells while he runs up to him.
"Get it out." Starman tells Pat who pulls the icicle from his stomach.
"Let's get you out of here." Pat says as he picks Starman up and starts getting him out of the mess.
The enemies all exit the house and see the car trying to escape.
A metal masked hooded figure exits the house and looks to his gigantic coworker.
"Abomination. Sick 'em." Dr. Doom tells his muscled monster as he chases after the car when a orange portal opens and the car escaped through it.
The hero of that was Dr. Strange who casted his last spell to help Pat and Starman escape as drops to the ground...dead.
Pat quickly hits the brakes but runs the car into some trees and helped Starman out of the car and sees Strange got them as far as he could. The enemies won't find them out here any time soon.
"We got to get you to a hospital." Pat tells him.
"No! No, it's over. But...the Justice Society...the Avengers...they must live on." Starman tells him. "Their legacies must survive." He hands the cosmic staff to Pat. "Someone...with honor and strength must carry the torch."
"I'll try." Pat promises him.
"Not you." Starman breaks to him. "Someone with grace and heroism...you can't do it. But someone out there will...Definitely not you."
The cosmic staff stops glowing as Starman lets go.
"Pat. You were a good friend." Starman says and dies from his injuries.
The Injustice Society of America and Dark Avengers have teamed up to fight the heroes of this world...and they finally won.
There is no one left to protect their world.
At the Barton residence, Lila was babysitting a young Peter when she hears something sneaking out back.
"Peter, honey, I need you to stay here." Lila tells him and pulls out a self defense gun from a high shelf and heads out back on alert for anything.
What she wasn't expecting was her husband half beaten trying to stand up.
"Oh my god, Clint!" Lila tells, dropping the gun and running up to him and helping him stand as he pries his mask from his head. "What happened?"
"They...They're dead, Lila." Clint says, out of breath as she drags him inside. He tried to help his friends escape...but he was the only survivor as far as he could tell. "They killed them all."
"What?" Lila asks as she drags Clint onto the couch and sees his wounds aren't anything life threatening, just needed a bit of stitching. "What about-"
"Yeah, Peter's parents as well." Clint inteupts, knowing what she was gonna ask.
"Uncle Clint?" Peter asks and the two look to see him staring at him and his injuries, confused.
"Peter..." Clint sighs, having no idea how to tell him he left his parents to die. "Come here, buddy." He asks and Peter walks up to him and Clint lets him sit on his lap, fighting through the pain.
"Are my mommy and daddy going to be home soon?" Peter asks.
Lila looks heartbroken, knowing everything is going to change now.
"Pete...I was going to pick up your parents, but when I got to their workplace...they were being attacked. A lot of bad guys were there, they hurt a lot of mommy and daddy's friends. Your Uncle Clint went in there, tried to help them...but I couldn't save them. Th-There was too many people." Clint breaks and watches as Peter goes from happy to suddenly go sad. "I'm so sorry, Peter." He apologizes and pulls him into a hug as Peter cries.
They stayed there and Peter sooner or later fell asleep on Clint's lap.
"What do we do now?" Lila asks Clint.
Clint looks to the sleeping child in his lap and knows what he wants to do. "We could look after him."
"You sure about this, Clint?" Lila questions, willing to help Peter. His parents were her friends, and she wants the monsters brought to justice. But there's not much that her and Clint can do. It's a miracle Clint survived them all.
"Yeah. I want to help him. We can help him. I don't want him to loose him as well." Clint says and Lila is on board if he is.
