Chapter 01: A New World

Do you believe in fate?

Yeah, what a weird way to start off a story, am I right? But I truly want to know that.

Do we make our own lives or does something else decide what we are?

Maybe it's something in between where some parts of our lives are decided by fate but everything else is decided by us.

Or maybe I'm taking this way into context.

If you haven't closed out yet due to my rambling I apologize.

I sometimes talk way too much along with a mixture of foot in mouth syndrome.

It's just hard to decide where to start this story and if I truly want to tell it.

But I guess like all stories the best place to start would be the beginning.

So here we go.

My name is Jacob Rogers, just your casual twelve year old kid.

Now let's get to the story by going through a day that started off normal, but ended up going from normal to amazing.

Beep-Beep-Be-!

A hand slammed across the alarm from underneath some covers.

"Just five more minutes." A voice muttered softly beneath the covers, the body shifting to get comfortable.

The room shown right now looked to be a comic geek's room with posters of Batman, Justice League, Spider-Man and even some Video Game characters like Samus, Mario and Link.

Besides the posters there was a small desk with a laptop on it and a dresser with a TV and quite a few game systems on them along with a flute case on top of it.

"Jacob get up, we'll be leaving soon!" A voice called out, making Jacob groan.

But he knew better than to argue and the kid sat up, the covers falling off to show a shirtless kid with messy black hair and hazel eyes. His body wasn't really that toned due to lack of exercise but he was pretty skinny despite it as he opened his mouth to give a yawn when someone knocked on his door.

"I'm up," Jacob climbed out of his bed being mindful of the cat that liked to curl up next to him, only wearing blue boxers, but he ended up stepping on the cover while his left foot was still in it and ended up tripping, colliding with the wall. "Ow!"

"You alright?" The same voice from earlier called in concern.

"I'm fine, Mom." Jacob called back, rubbing his head.

In a few moments, Jacob exited his room wearing a black shirt, blue pants and a silver hoodie in time to see two people in the Kitchen.

His Mom, the blonde woman in a black dress who was drinking coffee and reading the paper while his Dad, the dark haired man dressed in a suit and tie was the one making some breakfast considering it was his turn.

"Over easy or scrambled?" Mr. Rogers asked, not even turning while Mrs. Rogers greeted Jacob.

"Morning Mom," Jacob returned the greeting before looking at his Dad. "Scrambled please."

"Do you have everything you'll need?" Mrs. Rogers asked while her husband got to making breakfast. "Your wallet, your key? Your phone?"

"I do." Jacob sighed a little annoyed as she asked him that everyday.

He guessed that she picked up on the annoyance when she smirked. "Just wanted to make sure you didn't forget anything like you did that one day." Jacob went beet red at that, knowing exactly what she was talking about. "Now what was it-."

"Nothing, it was nothing." Jacob quickly said to put a stop to it, while he saw Mr. Roger's shoulders give a twitch, showing the man was trying not to laugh as he knew that Mrs. Rogers didn't forget, she was just adding a little effect to it.

"Oh now I remember, you forgot your underwear." Mrs. Rogers continued causing Jacob to grimace and placed his hands on his face to hide his embarrassment.

To be fair he was eight when that happened and the only reason it was found out was because someone tried to pants him and he ended up flashing people at school. Luckily due to the age he didn't get into too much trouble.

"Please stop." Jacob muttered while Mr. Rogers finally let out a chuckle.

"Jacob you know that's the least embarrassing thing you've done in your childhood, remember when your Mother had to tie you up with the Garden Hose to mow the lawn?" Mr. Rogers asked, referring to the few times he was out in sea considering the man was in the Navy as a Submariner and Jacob had a tendency to disappear whenever someone took their eyes off of him. "And you still got out by slipping out of your swimming trunks and streaked across the neighborhood before hiding in a neighbor's tree house?"

Jacob now banged his head on the table at that being brought up. "Okay I get it, can we please drop my childhood misdemeanors?"

Thankfully they stopped and the conversation turned to the usual plans for the day and while Jacob's face was still red he contributed the best he could, however his mind as usual wandered to what he wanted to do.

It was just a harmless fantasy in being famous for playing his flute.

Music was one of the best escapes for him even if he wasn't really good at learning the notes, but he found it more enjoyable than talking to people even if he was better at socializing now.

He doesn't really have many friends, mostly because he loved being by himself as opposed to being surrounded by others.

"Now, are you sure you'll be fine by yourself?" Mrs. Rogers asked, earning a chuckle from Jacob.

"Mom, I'll be fine you guys are just going to be gone for a day," Jacob said, giving a grin. "Besides it's your guys anniversary, so don't put it off on my account."

"You know, most parents would worry about their kid throwing a party." Mr. Rogers deadpanned, but he smiled to show he was kidding as Jacob stuck his tongue out in disgust.

"No thank you."

He hated parties and thought they were stupid. Why would anyone want to go to one where they would just be awkward unless they see people they know, when they could be doing other things that were more important?

Mr. Rogers chuckled and fondly ruffled Jacob's hair earning a 'hey' from him.

"I know you'll be fine but we worry about you." Mrs. Rogers smiled at her son who sheepishly rubbed the back of his head.

"Thanks Mom but what's the worst that can happen?" Jacob asked with a laugh.

Besides it was Summer Vacation so he could use the time to play some video games that he bought as well as practice with his flute a bit more.

He didn't plan on leaving the house. Jacob was confident that he could handle one day by himself.

Little did he know that his day was going to get very strange soon enough.

The World of Avalar was quite the magical place, a place full of magic talismans, large gems and mysterious orbs. It was a place that was usually peaceful if it wasn't for a certain, rather short problem with a violent temper.

A problem that three inhabitants of Avalar were desperately trying to fix.

"Is it working Professor?" The one who spoke was a young faun-like creature that wore a dress made up of leaves, her brown ear twitching a bit through her messy red hair as they were taking a bit of a risk.

"Almost," The shortest animal-like being muttered being a mole wearing a white lab coat as he was messing with two green orbs that were currently powering a portal, his white eyebrows furrowing in concentration before he pushed his glasses up to keep them from falling off his face. "Just a few more adjustments to these orbs and-."

"Maybe this isn't such a good idea?" The last inhabitant spoke up being a bipedal cheetah wearing nothing more than a wristband on his left wrist and a strap going across his chest holding a quiver of arrows on his back, currently he was wringing his paws together nervously. "Bringing a Dragon here could just make Ripto more angry."

Rolling her green eyes at how he was being, the Faun spoke up. "Calm down Hunter," Her tone held an exasperated tone before she narrowed her eyes with some slight annoyance. "And stop fidgeting."

"But you saw the Professor's book," Hunter said shaking his head. "They have claws like this," He made an exaggerated motion with his own claws before stretching his arms out to measure something. "Teeth like this… And they spit fire like crazy, they sound much more dangerous than Ripto."

"That's exactly the point, a dragon is our only chance of stopping Ripto and you know it." The Faun pointed out though she did sound a little unnerved as she was hoping they weren't making a mistake.

Hunter did bring up a point as Dragons were indeed dangerous but they needed all the help they could get with how dangerous Ripto was and with how he bragged about there not being any dragons when he did arrive at Avalar they figured it would be the way to make him leave.

"It's working… It's working!" The Professor cheered with the orbs now circling their makeshift portal. "I've got a dragon!"

In many timelines they did indeed get a dragon, a young, small purple scaled Dragon that has already saved his own realm who was currently on his way to Dragon Shores for a vacation. A dragon that would indeed save Avalar.

However in this timeline the professor made a mistake with the orbs that were currently powering the portal-he isn't perfect after all, so it was natural that he would make a mistake at some point.

So while Spyro the Dragon along with Sparx the Dragonfly were on their way to Dragon Shore they ended up accidentally abducting someone else.

As Jacob watched his parents drive off, giving a wave in doing so, a new feeling took over him and he smiled.

For the last week he was told he would be alone, now he was alone and he was going to have a lot of fun for this one day.

"I think I'll play some video games first, order a pizza and then play some music." Jacob mused aloud with a grin.

Video Games, like Music, was an escape from reality for Jacob as he loved playing the games. It was like reading a book or watching a movie but better.

Running inside after locking the door, Jacob ran to the family den and opened the closet to show a huge row of games that were usually played by his parents.

"So many choices." Jacob picked one out before putting it back to grab another. "Wind Waker? No. Sonic Unleashed? No. Far Cry Primal? Twilight Princess?"

He just couldn't decide.

"Maybe some Dragon Age or Mass Effect? Ooh maybe some Minecraft-?" Jacob went to grab it only for another game to slide off the top and land on his head. "Ow!"

Rubbing his head as he picked up a rather old copy of Gex, Jacob put it back and cupped his chin in thought.

He couldn't decide.

After a bit, he grabbed Elder Scrolls Oblivion and grinned.

"Haven't played in Tamriel for awhile."

Placing it on the small table next to the chair, he closed the closet and left to go get a soda when the strangest thing happened.

A freaking tear in reality appeared right in his doorway the moment he walked through.

Eyes widening as it expanded, Jacob's mind couldn't register what he was seeing fast enough before it engulfed him and he was gone without so much of a scream.

"Oof!" Jacob coughed as he slammed into the ground, the sun shine was really making it hard to see as he got up.

He spent what felt like hours falling through whatever the heck that thing was, so it was no surprise that he had trouble keeping his balance with him falling over before he just sat down with his legs crossed.

"Okay, what just happened?!" Jacob asked with his eyes closed.

"You're a dragon?" A voice asked in disbelief showing that he wasn't alone so he slowly opened an eye to see the Faun, Professor and Hunter looking very surprised by what they were seeing, their stares were really creeping Jacob out, while he stared a bit at seeing three creatures that sure as heck weren't human.

"... Come again? Do I look like I have scales or wings?" Jacob asked with slight annoyance, not sure what was going on and that was right before the fireball slammed into the portal he came out of, effectively trapping him there as the explosion destroyed the portal and knocked the other three off their feet with Jacob now covering his ringing ears.

Whoever had action heroes ignore explosions in those movies were lying, there's no freaking way to not be affected by one. The others seemed to be experiencing the same thing before they shook their heads and looked towards where the fireball came from seeing three new arrivals.

Jacob was now staring as he saw a rather large scaly blue dinosaur holding a club with two tiny wings on his back and a giant green dinosaur looking creature with horns, but the real shocker was the rather small but intimidating orange horned creature standing on the green one wearing a black cloak that had a red gem keeping it clasped to his small body holding a scepter.

"Well, well someone forgot to invite me to the party," The orange one spoke with a smirk as he sniffed the air. "You trying to keep something from me-?"

He cut himself off as he zeroed in on Jacob who froze and offered a feeble, nervous wave, very unsure of what was going on.

"A HUMAN?!" The orange creature shouted in annoyance. "You brought one of their kind to Avalar?! I hate humans almost as much as dragons."

"Oh great not even here for a minute and I'm already being insulted." Jacob muttered to himself right when this rude guy lifted his scepter that started to glow before a rather small red headed creature that he didn't notice before wearing a yellow dress who had her hair pulled in a ponytail flew up to the orange midget pulling a wand out in the process and straight up zapped him stealing his scepter in the progress.

"Ow! Crush," He called out making the blue giant perk up. "Kill it, kill it!"

Listening after a second, Crush swung his club missing the fairy who flew up so he ended up hitting the orange midget making him fly off.

Jacob had to work not to laugh at what he was seeing.

But she was unable to fully get away when the green giant latched onto the scepter with his mouth pulling it out of her hands, eating it in the process while trying to get her but she flew back behind the others before that could happen.

"Gulp you imbecile, you ate my scepter," The orange midget snarled, forcing his mouth open to see if he could get it but decided to hell with it and climbed onto his back as they ran off with him glaring at the others. "I'll deal with you later."

Jacob blinked owlishly at what he just saw, a bit silent for a bit. "Well that was… Interesting."

Seriously what else could he say about that?

"That was Ripto and we have to get rid of him," The Faun spoke up with Jacob now looking at her a bit confused at hearing that. "He's causing all sorts of trouble around here but I haven't got time to explain, take this guidebook to Avalar, it'll help you understand our world."

"W-Wait wha-?" Jacob tried as he fumbled, barely catching the book that was tossed at him with the Professor and Hunter taking off.

"Right now I need to follow Ripto to make sure he doesn't cause any trouble, I'll see you in Summer Forest okay?" The Faun didn't wait for an answer as she took off with Jacob trying to get her attention before he was alone.

After waiting for a few seconds, Jacob sighed. "How did I get in this mess?"

Seriously what just-how did-?

He was so very confused.

"Okay, I went to get a soda and I got pulled into Fantasy land instead," Jacob muttered to himself with both hands on his head, barely staving off a headache from this. "And I got told by talking animals that I need to save them from a trio of dinosaurs."

Saying it out loud sounded rather ridiculous, but in a way it sounded like the plot to a video game, Jacob actually found that interesting before grinning.

He always wanted to go on an adventure ever since he began playing some of these games, it was why he always disappeared around his parents growing up because he was off exploring, pretending he was some heroic knight, usually only having a small stick he carried with him.

But the smile fell as he glanced back, seeing the portal that brought him there destroyed and was concerned on how his parents would react when they saw that he was gone.

"Well if they brought me here chances are they can send me back." Jacob theorized, remembering how that-er Faun? Goat? Whatever the girl was, said she'll meet him in Summer Forest.

He'll have to find it first, then he'll get some answers.

So he'll treat this like a game for now.

"Quest Number One: Get to Summer Forest!" Jacob declared with a grin.

"Uh are you okay?" Blinking at the sudden question while hearing the nervous undertone, Jacob looked around. "Down here, stranger."

Looking down, Jacob saw a two foot tall-he was pretty sure this was a cross between a kangaroo and a rat. He wasn't trying to be insulting, but that's what it looked like.

He was also wearing a yellow mining hat.

Jacob just stared with the kangaroo rat looking extremely nervous-was he scaring him?

Then again if something taller than him just stared he would be scared too.

So he gave a friendly smile. "Hi there, I'm Jacob."

The fear was gone as the Kangaroo Rat tilted his head to the side. "I'm Pogo a Gemcutter," He introduced himself. "Welcome to Glimmer Stranger we don't get many visitors, especially with the recent lizard problem."

"Lizard problem?" Jacob looked past Pogo on higher ground to see tall blue-or rather purple maybe indigo lizards with pick axes nearby looking like they were fooling around.

"Yeah they've been stealing our gems, is there any chance you can help stop them?" Pogo asked with a hopeful look on his face given how friendly Jacob was being compared to these lizards.

"Sure thing." Jacob said wanting to explore this place and Pogo seemed like he was alright for a Kangaroo Rat.

Seeing Pogo brighten up, Jacob glanced back towards the lizards only to see them making funny faces.

Oh great, he's being insulted again.

"Any idea how to deal with them?" Jacob asked in a curious manner.

"They're not really alive, ever since Ripto came here he used some of his magic to create creatures like this," Pogo explained, surprising Jacob who now had a look of wonder. "They usually take a good hit to dispel, some more than others but they took all of our Pickaxes."

"Magic?" He asked with a grin.

Heck yes, Magic is real in this fantasy land! He was so going to see if he could learn some.

Looking around, Jacob paused at seeing some glittering gems. "What are these?" He asked, picking up a blue gem.

"That's what these creatures are after, Ripto hoarded a bunch of treasure to himself to keep control over Avalar," Pogo said to Jacob who nodded as that made some sense with the bad guy taking over the economy on top of having magic power.

If comics taught him anything it was that those with the money and power makes the rules.

Looking from the gem to Pogo, Jacob grinned. "Mind if I borrow your helmet real quick?"

Pogo gave Jacob a confused look but allowed it while Jacob moved towards the lizards who gave him a curious look.

Giving a grin, Jacob closed his eyes and shined the light on top of the helmet onto the blue gem, making a bit of a blinding glint that made the lizards cry out.

Once that was done he threw the gem, nailing the lizard in the head seeing it disappear in a poof.

Wow that was easier than he thought, were these lizards really that big of a deal?

Seeing the second lizard running in fear, Jacob tossed the helmet back to Pogo who caught it with ease.

"Dibs on the pick axe."

He really needed a weapon in case he runs into anything that can actually put up a fight.

Gear was everything, he learned that from Minecraft.

"You take those creatures out and you can keep it." Pogo said, adjusting his helmet before tossing a rather small backpack towards him-it looked like one of those waist bags that tourists wore. "You don't seem to have a bag, tell ya what if you find any treasure that these creatures already grabbed you can keep it so Ripto won't get it, just don't mine for any more afterwards we do need to keep our jobs."

Jacob gave a nod with Pogo walking off-or rather bouncing off.

He spent the next few minutes exploring, taking a quick break in one of the structures he found, especially after finding quite a few loose gems that the creatures seemed to be moving, perhaps they fell out of a cart or something because they seemed to be everywhere.

But right now Jacob was reading the guidebook that Goat girl gave him and it was explaining quite a bit about, er, Avalar and this place being called Glimmer.

It even talked of the currency and how they worked with a red gem being the lowest while green equaled two of them, blue were five and so on. Pretty interesting stuff and counting them all together he guessed his amount right now was 48?

"Weird." Jacob muttered, closing the guidebook as he placed it in the bag that Pogo gave him given how it didn't seem to have a bottom. At least he wouldn't have to worry about the book being damaged.

Jacob exited the structure only to just about piss himself.

Standing in front of him was a brown looking Lizard taller than he was holding a mallet of all things-oh crap!

Jacob dove to the side right as said mallet slammed where he was and the next thing he knew he was running with the mallet wielding lizard chasing him.

Now he was terrified considering with his excitement he didn't think about this adventure being dangerous.

Of course it was, he should've realized that the moment he saw Ripto and his two dinosaur-er… Henchmen?

Do they count as henchmen?

A slam right behind him made him shelve that question for later before he remembered Pogo saying that it takes a hit to get them to disappear and grabbed the pick axe he had right as he came to the edge with a small ravine below him.

It wasn't that far of a drop, but Jacob figured it would still hurt and he had no idea what was down there.

Turning he saw the giant lizard still running at him and Jacob threw the pick axe, hoping that when it made contact it would take care of the creature only for the giant lizard to grab it and snap it like it was a toothpick.

Well there went his weapon.

Swallowing nervously, Jacob didn't see a way out of this before he just dove out of the way as the lizard went to stop but the momentum he had made him trip and fall into the ravine where a moment later a white spirit ball flew up showing that the impact of falling was enough for him to fade away.

Jacob just stared at the dumb luck that happened before sighing.

He should probably not treat this like a game if there were enemies like that waiting.

Getting up, he began to move in what he hoped would be the direction towards this Summer Forest.

To Be Continued…

Phew, yes another story but this one is actually something I've had for awhile. This was the original 'Accidental Hero' story I had going before I changed it to have the character go to Gamindustri.

But I didn't want this story to go to waste so I kept working on it, had to change the origin story a bit and make a new character, which lead to Jacob Rogers, who is my first attempt at a cocky young kid instead of the usual nervous kid that becomes brave which I've done quite a few times with Lucas, Kiyoshi and Violet being prime examples. Barry doesn't count because he was a teen turned into a kid.

The reason for his cockiness is because he's only twelve and the world he is in isn't really that dangerous looking as opposed to other worlds he could've gotten stuck in, so he's a bit playful. Though that last part did show him he should take things a bit seriously.

I've been replaying the Reignited Trilogy a lot and I've been wanting to have a story take place in Avalar, where I'll try to flesh out the worlds a bit more to add detail to them.

And yes Spyro isn't the hero in this one, but he is still a hero, he already had his first adventure against Gnasty Gnorc, I just figured there was always a chance that there could've been a screw up with the portal, after all there was a story about Red the dragon being the one picked up and a story where team RWBY were grabbed.

So I figured why not add my own little twist? And I might have Jacob and Spyro meet at some point, not sure on that.

And don't worry I'll be updating my RWBY/LOZ story up next, I finally have the chapter almost done, give it another day or two if nothing else happens and it should be up.
