Well, it's time to get up and face another day.
I get out of bed and head to my closet. Yep, definitely going with my favorite outfit.
I pull on a sky blue T-shirt over the blue and green dragon scales that go down my spine. Yes, I am part dragon.
Shh. Don't tell anybody because I keep that a secret, like my ability to both shift into one while also being able to speak and understand their language.
Not many people speak Dragon anyway.
Okay. There's my soft red hoodie. On it goes, just in case.
I also put on sky blue pants and grab my orange tennis shoes. They have really cool glow in the dark yellow laces.
Now, get some socks. Put them over my (also secret!) webbed toes.
They're not fused together, I can walk but I run with a slight limp.
Put the shoes on.
Grab my gold heart-shaped locket. Open it. Touch a finger to the picture of me with my parents.
Love you guys.
Hey, they will come back! They're just not here right now.
Check myself in the mirror. There's my fifteenth birthday present.
Blue and green opal stud earrings. They're called dragon's breath, which is awesome.
Put on and close my locket. It does kind of match my green-gold eyes.
Rake one hand through my waist length brown hair. It has red, orange, yellow and blue stripes that I pass off as hair extensions.
Yeah, they occur naturally just like how I was born at home with those dragon scales and webbed toes I told you about.
Plus I sound like Black Widow due to my vocal cords being damaged from birth.
I can breathe fire and underwater, not just as a dragon, so hey. Win some, lose some.
I'm also aquakinetic and that's all my powers.
My dragon form, in case you're curious, is red, orange and yellow with a stripe down my back that matches the one that I have as a girl.
I can only fly in it but, hey, I like to fly. Who wouldn't?
However, I can't speak in English (except telepathically and, so far, only with Tim) as a dragon. Nope, only Dragon can be spoken out loud by me in the form of one.
My pupils also turn slitted.
Oh, and don't bullshit me. I've got a low tolerance for it and I fight really well.
I just don't talk much in public because I hate it when people point out my voice.
Yeah, yeah, I know who I sound like. Shut the hell up about it.
I'm also aware that I come across as bristly. I'm also pretty secretive but I think you might have already figured that, and the fact I'm very sarcastic, out already.
I've got acute ears, after all. My sight and smell are also pretty good.
I'm 5'5", 105 pounds and, as you know, you missed my birthday on September 22nd, the first day of fall.
You could have gotten me a book.
I like to read, especially about dragons which I also like, same as music, gems and precious metals. Those last two, along with my like of fire, would be a dragon thing.
My favorite color is yellow-orange (it looks like my fire) and I like to swim.
Fire and water. Water and fire.
They're a big part of my life.
My best friend Tim Drake (Yes, I get a huge kick out of the fact that his last name means dragon) knows that.
It's likely why my first name means of the sea and my middle name is a term for fire.
Yeah, you can know my name now.
It's Maris. Maris Flame Carey.
No nicknames please.
They aren't something I like but spending time with Tim is the last thing that I do like.
Yes, I've taken him flying. He's like my brother.
My parents have been missing for a week now so I need that.
Well, I've got to get going to school soon.
Remember, don't tell anyone about my scales or webbed toes. I'm so careful not to show those things, Tim doesn't know about them!
Oh, and can you let me know if you see my parents? My Mom is named Breeze and my Dad is named Storm.
I'll tell you more about them later, okay?
After grabbing and inhaling a bagel, I decide to fly to school because why the hell not.
What? I have aquakinesis, remember?
I guess I forgot to tell you that I can use it as a dragon. It means that I can use clouds or mist to hide me, which really comes in handy.
Sure, that seems like a fairly important thing to forget mentioning but, as I told you, my parents have been missing for a week. Give a girl a break here.
I mean, I almost forgot my cell phone with plugged in ear buds too.
There it is. Yellow-orange case, red and blue ear buds.
I close up and lock my house, putting my key in my right pants pocket.
I've got my backpack on too, okay? It's the same color as my phone case.
I put in my ear buds.
Let's see. Which flying song should I choose today?
I have a pretty vast music selection.
Playlists.
Songs for Flying.
Yes, this one will do.
I put my phone in my hoodie pocket, having made the choice to play Light Up the Sky by Thousand Foot Krutch.
