Sirius ushered Remus and Peter into the kitchens. He then clapped his hands together and glanced at them, a sheepish grin on his face as he saw Remus' glare. "What is it and why is it so important that you had to shove us into the kitchens without Prongs noticing?" He huffed, all while giving Sirius a stern look. Sirius clapped his hands together.

"Glad you asked! I have recently been observing our dear friend Prongs and it has come to my attention that-" He was rudely interrupted by Remus, who was pinching the bridge of his nose in exasperation.

"Padfoot, do us a favour and speak normally, please?"

"Prongs has stopped asking Lily out." Sirius deadpanned.

"Wait, what!?"

"What!?"

Remus shook his head slightly in disbelief. "Are you sure?" Sirius nodded. Peter, who had been glancing back and forth between the two others, stuffed a roll in his mouth in an attempt to calm himself. Remus began hitting himself with his book. Sirius had to hold on to a counter to stop himself from swaying as the information finally sank in. Once all three boys had stopped hyperventilating Remus decided to take charge. "What's the plan?" Sirius looked up at him, confused.

"What do you mean, what's the plan?" He asked, tying his hair up at the first mention of the word 'plan'. Peter took another roll and munched on it thoughtfully.

"Well, we do want to find out why Prongs is acting funny, don't we?" He said, looking to Remus for conformation. The werewolf nodded and took out a notepad. Seeing the notepad, Sirius began to brainstorm.

"Let's see... We could attack him?" The other boys stared at him incredulously. "No? Okay... We could just ask him? Wait no that won't work... I know!" He yelled, standing on his chair in excitement. "Veritaserum!"

Remus looked at him strangely. "Not a bad idea... But where are we going to get Veritaserum?"

Peter shook his head at his friend sadly. "I thought you were the clever one Moony! Old Sluggy of course!"

Now it was Remus' turn to shake his head at his friend. "Wormtail, what did I tell you about calling Professor Slughorn 'Old Sluggy'?" Peter just grinned at him. "Fine. How are we going to get Prongs to drink Veritaserum?" Sirius stuck his hand up in the air. "Put your hand down, Padfoot, we're not in class."

Sirius huffed. "Prongs trusts us with his life, we just give him a drink, it can't be that hard." Remus and Peter nodded their heads, he had a point. They then continued snacking, they were in the kitchens after all, and left, ready to carry out their master plan.

It was decided that Peter would us his Animagus form to sneak into Slughorn's living quarters and take a small amount of Veritaserum from his storage cupboard using a spare vial that Sirius had in his potions kit. They then waited for a few days till the perfect opportunity rose. James would've been suspicious but it appeared that whatever was distracting him from Lily was also distracting him from the strange behaviour of his friends. Eventually, a cold day full of rain and clouds drove the marauders inside by the warm fire of the common room. Remus expertly made them all hot chocolate and a wink to Sirius and Peter set their plan into motion. Peter would pour the contents of the vial into his mug, saying it was a sleeping medication and then discreetly switch it with James'. This was surprisingly easy, as it appeared that James was busy daydreaming.

Soon enough, James had drank a sufficient amount of the hot chocolate and Sirius decided to test out the effectiveness of the potion. "Who are you?" He asked the confused boy, grinning as he answered immediately.

"James Charles Potter." He paled. "You put Veritaserum in my drink!" He cried indignantly. Remus smirked.

"Indeed we did, now, why have been so distracted lately? Wait, no, why have you stopped asking Lily out?"

James flushed and the others shared a gleeful look, this was going to be good. "I'm dating someone." He blurted out, then cursed under his breath, it was obvious he had not wanted to answer. Remus and Sirius frowned slightly, it was unlike James to keep secrets. Peter, though slightly concerned, didn't show it.

"So, Prongs, who's the lucky lady?" Asked Sirius, a small smile on his face, he was glad that James had finally moved on from the girl that would never love him back romantically.

James' face turned an even deeper shade of red. "They're not a lady." He muttered. Remus, Sirius and Peter all showed slight signs of surprise but took it in stride.

"Who's the lucky guy, then?" Asked Peter, pausing to sip on his hot chocolate.

James looked like he was about to answer but clamped a hand over his mouth, staring at Sirius nervously. Eventually, the fight between James and the Veritaserum finished, leaving the Veritaserum as the victor. "Regulus Black."

Peter snorted discreetly into his mug, thinking back to all the times he really should've been able to figure it out. Remus' thoughts were quite similar as he focused on making sure Sirius could breath. It seemed that the shocked boy was choking on a marshmallow. As Sirius' airway finally cleared he looked up to stare at James' frozen face. "What?" He gasped out, unable to keep his eyes off his best friend. Sirius then stood up, rather abruptly and knocking his drink over in the process, and stormed out the portrait hole. James, fearing for his boyfriends life, followed quickly. Remus and Peter followed at a slower pace, still holding onto their mugs.

Sirius marched down multiple staircases, through multiple doorways and past multiple students. All the while ignoring James as he yelled at him to slow down or stop. Finally, he screeched to halt in front of the entrance to the Slytherin common room. Knocking on the wall, Sirius yelled at it. "Oi! Can Regulus Black join me outside within the next ten seconds, please!" Behind him, James stopped as he caught up to Sirius at last.

The wall slid open and a hurried Regulus Black stepped out. "Sirius?" He said, a confused on his face as he saw his brother in front of him. It wasn't surprising really, Sirius had ran away over a year ago and the two hadn't had a civil conversation since.

Sirius smiled at him slightly, catching James off guard. Based off of the reaction he had seen so far, he had thought that Sirius wasn't supportive of their relationship yet here he was, smiling at his brother for the first time in months. "Lovely to see you too Reggie." Sirius said happily, slinging his arm over his younger brother's shoulders. By now Regulus had seen James, who was leaning against a wall, still trying to figure out where Sirius was going with this. Sirius saw where Regulus' gaze was directed and cleared his throat. "Ah yes, about that, I just wanted you to know, if either of you hurt each other, I will hurt you. Other than that, I'm happy for you guys." He then gave Regulus a one armed hug, grinned at James, and skipped of to join Remus and Peter, who had finally gotten to the dungeons.

Regulus stared at James. James stared at Regulus. "What just happened?" The younger boy whispered. James chuckled slightly and reached over to take his hand.

"Honestly? I don't know."
