Hey guys, so this is a new story that I've just started working on. It's going to end up being a Pertemis story in the end, but I got sick of reading Pertemis stories where Percy is the guardian of the hunt, or where Annabeth cheats on Percy etc. Cause all of those arcs were repetitive and I really couldn't see that happening anyway. So I'm trying something a little different here hopefully. I've got a rough idea of where this is going so we'll see what happens. I'm going to try and post a new chapter every few days, but with classes being a bit hectic lately I can't promise that.
As always please follow and review if you like it. Feel free to leave suggestions if you want, I'm not the most creative person under the sun, so any ideas are gratefully appreciated.
SPOILER ALERT: This story contains a few major spoilers from the Trials of Apollo series (Books 3 & 4 in particular). If you haven't read these books yet please be aware of this. Otherwise read on.
Disclaimer: I don't own any of the PJO, HOO or TOA series. That all belongs to Uncle Rick.
Chapter 1 – Abduction
[Percy POV]
Annabeth and I were sitting on the sand at camp watching the ocean twinkle in the evening sun. If there's one place that always calms me down, it's the beach. It doesn't matter how I'm feeling or which beach in the world it is, it never fails to be a place of peace and tranquillity. And right now, I could definitely use some calming down. I had just heard from Piper that my bro Jason had been killed by some sadist named Caligula. And on top of that, due to the ongoing war with these Roman god-emperors, this had happened over 3 weeks ago, but Piper hadn't been able to contact us sooner. This meant that none of us on the Eastern Seaboard had been able to make it to the funeral at Camp Jupiter.
I kept asking myself how this could've happened. Jason was more than just a fighter; he was a strong demigod son of Jupiter. He could definitely look after himself. This was just so unexpected, but I guess it was our destiny as demigods to fight until the Fates took us. The only comfort I took was that Apollo and Meg had destroyed the 3 emperors once and for all and had bought a little justice for his murder.
"I'll never forget you bro," I said to the ocean. "And I promise I'll make sure Piper is supported."
"Piper will be alright Seaweed Brain," Annabeth replied. "She's strong in many ways."
"It's just not fair. He never really got to live life, and they had only just been able to start moving things along with their relationship."
"I know Seaweed Brain, I know. But think of it as incentive to always make the most of our lives. Cause we never know when the string of fate will be cut."
"At least he will have made Elysium."
We continued to sit on the beach until the sun was almost set. Not really knowing quite what to do; but feeling content to just be in each other's company and hope that somehow the sadness would pass. Eventually I stood up and went to the water's edge. I dipped my toes before continuing to walk out into the surf. I willed myself to get wet and dove under the waves. The energised feeling of being in the water helped me to feel slightly less sad than before.
It was then that I noticed a strange object on the sea floor. It seemed to be an orb of some kind. A bluish light emanated from it and I could feel its power from where I was. As I dove down to get closer to it, I felt compelled to touch it. I wasn't quite sure what would happen, but it seemed to be like a good idea. It wasn't.
As soon as my fingers made contact with it, I felt my powers leave me. I couldn't see. I couldn't will myself to be dry. I couldn't breathe! I tried to let go of it, but it clung to my hand like it was glued. It was then I noticed that the water was starting to swirl around me. I pushed off from the bottom of the ocean and started fighting against the currents to make it towards the surface, towards the air! Once my upper body broke the surface of the water, I felt the orb leave my hand again. But the whirlpool was still gaining strength.
"Annabeth!" I screamed. "Something's here. I don't have my powers!"
"Percy!"
I tried to make it to the shore, but the currents were fighting me. I felt myself being dragged back down once more and fought to stay above the surface. Taking one last gulp of air I was pulled under. I noticed a dark tunnel had opened up on the seafloor and I was being pulled down into it. There was nothing I could do to fight it. Once I had entered, I felt the currents weaken and the tunnel closed up behind me. I was trapped down here, wherever here was.
[Annabeth POV]
"Percy," I screamed as he went under a second time.
I sprinted to the water, but he was already gone. I dove in after him, but he was nowhere to be seen. The only remnant of the entire encounter was a strange orb that was floating on the waves next to me. Tentatively, I picked it up. But nothing happened.
"PERCY!" I screamed again. All my anger and frustration being let out. Why did things always have to happen to us? Why couldn't we just live an uneventful life after all the crap that we'd been through before.
"Percy come back! I can't lose you again Seaweed Brain."
