Chapter 1 : Kimiko Guild
"So... will you consider becoming a part of my guild?"
"Not now. I am still busy maintaining the barrier. I am just here to relax"
"You are always here to relax. Well fine... I'll ask later again"
"You really won't give it up huh..."
That was what Reimu replied to me before she sips on the tea that I serve for her.
We are inside my pitifully small guild. A newbie guild that I establish because of some higher entity's request for me.
My guild was basically a small tavern with a single floor. There are no rooms to let my members or even a guest to stay. I only have this small room with a single wooden table and four wooden stools along with a tiny kitchen on the corner. Then there is a single room for myself.
There are two entrances to my guild. The front entrance and the back entrance.
While the front door leads to the streets of this city, the back entrance was an entrance that only people from the other world can enter and exit from.
You see, this world is a world that was already on the brink of its collapse. Every intelligent race are living in a single kingdom because of a dominant shift.
Now, uncivilized beasts and cosmic entities ruled over reality. Going outside is very dangerous.
The people in this world manage to survive because of the existence of the Guild.
Guild is an organization where a group of brave and powerful people gathers to go on an expedition and subjugate these uncivilized beasts and cosmic entities.
There is a weird rule in this world where the enemies of all mankind can't influence a civilization so long as it is civilized. Though these entities can restrict their powers so they can get inside a civilization and wreak havoc on it.
And most dominant species are not really targeting any civilizations now. They are busy destroying each other for territory and food.
But there are still some wild beasts who will go inside the cities and kill some people. This is where the Guilds becomes important. They are the one who protects people on these beasts and also cull the numbers of this beasts so the people can travel outside safely.
Though the guilds of this world became a dominant party in this kingdom. They have a strong influence over the kingdom that it became popular to younger people to join a guild early on. It also became popular for the majority to become a partner or even the part of a guild itself. It would be preferable if the guild is strong and big.
Even in this apocalyptic age, the people can't help but still go in their petty squabbles. Each guilds are competing at each other to become the most popular and strongest guild in the kingdom. They essentially forgot their true purpose why they existed in the first place.
The true purpose of the guild is to hold back threats of humanity. They are the defenders of the whole intelligent races.
So what am I to all of this then?
Well, I am not of this world. Just a female shut-in in Japan who was transported in this world by the request of this higher entity.
You see, this higher entity is the Will of the Mankind. An Alaya-like being who protects the whole mankind from any threats for it. She was the reason why the weird rule of reality warping entities and almighty beings not being able to wipe out the civilization with a simple thought. Very strong beings needs to restrict some or most of their powers first before they can go inside a civilization.
It was some sort of barrier that this higher entity made so that the mankind can survive. Though she limited her barrier to only all powerful creatures because covering every categories of threats, even the insignificant ones will drain her powers too much and she will lose her energy sooner with that.
But even with this restriction, she will still lose all her energy sooner. She just makes it like that so she can protect humanity for much longer.
And now she was nearing her limit. She needs to rest for some centuries or even a millennium before she can protect humanity again. She said she was continuously doing this for several thousands of years, the date when the emergence of Guilds also started.
And so she uses her last vestiges of power to call someone to help her world. Though she wasn't really hoping that whoever she called can help that much.
She even admitted that to me when she requested for me to save this world.
So she made all the necessary preparations so people won't think it weird that I suddenly appeared along with my guild. She insisted that I have my own guild because it will be convenient if the one she called also uses what the majority of humanity in her world are doing.
After that I am here and it's been a month since I came to this world.
Having a guild is easy. I only need to just register my guild to this kingdom through the Royal Palace. Birth of origin or even the date of birth won't be asked at all. This is the only civilization so why would they, is what I heard they reasoned.
To acquire guild members, people needs to go to the guild they prefer and register for them to become a member. Unlike registering the guild, recruiting members doesn't need to involve the Royal Palace. It's all up to the guild itself whether they want to recruit the person applying for them or not.
This means that I need to wait for someone to join me. I am not confident on my strength so I don't want to go out there and do my own expeditions. I don't have any amazing powers that will let me defeat every enemy that I encounter.
Guild masters (the one who established a guild) can also do the work of the guild like going on an expedition or accepting requests from the citizens. But I don't want to do it because of the reasons that I just said awhile ago.
So isn't that already useless. That Will of Humanity wasted her power for a useless hikikomori like me.
But hey... I don't know if the Will of Humanity did this or I am just unique in this world but I can basically call my guild as a cheater.
You see, other guild needs to wait for members to apply for them. They can force someone to register for them but it still ends with the person choosing whether they want to join that guild or not. And the people on this kingdom who are brave or strong are limited, making recruiting members difficult for newbie guilds because the good ones are already recruited by the old and established ones.
But my guild can look for members on the other world. Specifically, worlds that only I as a hardcore Otaku knows.
So while the other guilds are frantically looking for someone to recruit. I only need to wait for someone to come inside my guild.
It is still up to me if they will join me or not though.
So Reimu is my very first guest on my guild. Not just my first guest, she is also my first possible recruit.
Hakurei Reimu. A character from Touhou Series. The Shrine Maiden of Paradise. The long time incident solver on Gensokyo. The one who also maintains the barrier that separates Earth and Gensokyo. She is also the first main protagonist of her series.
Based on what I remember of her, she have a myriad of abilities. With the main ones being mastery of barriers, mastery of auras, the ability to fly, and to call upon gods.
It seems like she thought she was being pranked by a certain Secret God when a door at the back of her shrine suddenly appeared. That door leads to my guild.
Of course I became very excited when she first appeared on my guild. I was just done on my shopping at that time when I came back on the guild only to see her looking around curiously at my small living room. (The Will of Humanity have the decency to leave a handful of wealth so I can sustain myself for a year).
After that, she occasionally drops by here to drink tea or just laze around. She says that it was a change of scene for her so this just became a daily thing.
And because she kept coming back here, I finally manage to have the courage to ask her to join my guild. Of course I was rejected.
Though I was pretty depressed when she rejected me, I managed to bounce back and try again because she still kept coming back.
And now on present, I can finally talk to her casually.
We might not be friends but I think she thinks of me as her acquaintance?
"So Kimiko-san, why don't you ask someone to join you?"
Oh right, I forgot to introduce myself. I am Kimiko Toujo.
"I tried that already. No one accepted my offer. I even put a wanted sign on the public request board at the Center Plaza but no one was coming till now" I replied while feeling downhearted.
So I just did that for a whole week at my first time in this world. I still don't know about the capability of my back entrance to connect to the other world at that time. I think it would be bad for me if my wealth was depleted without my guild doing any request so I tried encouraging myself and put a request on the public request board at the Center Plaza. I also take out my shame and ask some people to join me. Both attempts didn't result into anything.
I am not good at the crowds so it really took a whole lot of my willpower until I finally gave up. There are some unpleasant men who tried to coerce me to join my guild with their stares obviously being malicious. Good thing I manage to run away at that time. Though it just strengthened the reason why I don't want to recruit anyone personally anymore.
Of course people from this otherworldly door is a different matter. Fictional characters that I only see in a media will appear and have a chance to become my member. That was the greatest thing for me!
As to how I know why I think it's not limited to Touhou Project Series only. I just have a strong feeling that it was right to think so. Call it a gut feeling.
I already told Reimu some of the things I know about this world. Like how this kingdom is the last civilization of mankind, how monsters and other almighty entities are the dominant ones on this reality, and why guilds are the major players of this kingdom.
So she knows what I am talking about when I ask her to join me.
"Hmm... if I join your guild or whatever, what will I get from it?"
Reimu asked that before taking a sip of her tea again.
Oh... I didn't tell her about that didn't I?
"Well. If you join my guild, you will have a weekly wage of a single gold coin. And while you will be a member of my guild, it's not mandatory to help the guild. You can volunteer however you want, I won't force you. You will also not be force to stay at my guild so you can stay wherever you want, even at your own house. You can come to the guild whenever you want. Even if you didn't do anything, I will still give your wage of a single gold coin weekly"
So those conditions seems to be disadvantageous for me but I already decided on that when I first see Reimu. I don't have the courage to take advantage of the characters that I idolize since I was a shut-in.
And even Reimu was looking at me with a surprised expression. It was like she can't believe that I will give a condition that only my recruited members can benefit.
"... How much is a single gold coin?"
Oh right... I also didn't tell her about that.
"A single gold coin is equivalent to a hundred silver coins. A single silver coin is then equivalent to a hundred copper coins. A copper coin can buy a single bread in the bakery"
"What!? Then you are basically telling me that you are giving me a lot of money that can buy ten thousand breads every week!"
Woah! Reimu was looking at me with a scary expression!
"Y-yes!" I squeakily replied as I raised my hands while she looks at me in fervor.
"And you said I am not obligated to do whatever this guild needs when I became a member right!"
"Y-yes!"
"Great, I'm in!"
"Y-yes... wait what!?"
What did she say?
"I said I will join your guild. I can still do my job as a shrine maiden even if I join your guild. This is just a side job so I can acquire some penny"
She told me that with a shrug of her shoulders.
... She wanted to join my guild?
Hakurei Reimu wants to join my guild. Woohoo!
"Yes, with pleasure!" I replied with a joyful feeling.
Thus, I got my first member!

A/N
So hello. This is me levelgap.
Now I made another new fanfic. There is a reason for it why I did that.
So I said on my author's note on my story Zero's Maple that I reset my phone because it was messed up. Well, all my stories and ideas was also inside my phone and all of it was now lost.
So all my progress from all the stories that I planning to update are gone. I lost my motivation to write anymore.
I want to continue my stories but I can't even put a single sentence on it before I scrap it altogether. That's how much I lost the will to write.
Then I thought of this weird idea and told myself "Why the hell not?"
So this took a lot of forcing myself until I manage to write a single paragraph for this story. After that, it became smooth sailing.
I might update my other stories but for now, because my ideas are flowing for this story so I will be focusing for this first.
If I got any ideas or the mood to write an update for my other stories, I will do it.
For now, enjoy this story.
As for this story, I'll tell you about the idea on the next chapter because this Author's Note is getting very long now.
Review if you like, helpful comments are welcome and thanks for reading this!∼∼
