PART 2
(From the part one, Mulder is in his craft and the mother ship fires at him. Jeremiah walking up to Scully explaining why they're being targeted. Then Mulder was accusing Scully for falling in love with Doggett. Then lastly shows Doggett and Reyes in Mulder's office as the bounty hunter walks in and asks "Remember me?")
MARTHA'S VINEYARD
THREE DAYS LATER 10:45 A.M.
(A phone is ringing. Someone's hand grabs the phone and lifting it to the persons ear. Its Scully.)
SCULLY: Hello?
SKINNER: (In his office.) Agent Scully, this A.D. Skinner.
SCULLY: Hello, Sir.
SKINNER: Have you found Mulder yet?
SCULLY: Why do you ask sir?
SKINNER: We have a problem here. A big problem. Do you feel up to coming back to work? I can't talk over the phone.
SCULLY: I can work something out sir. (Pause.) Good bye.
(Someone walks up behind her. And puts there arms around her stomach.)
SCULLY: (Leans into him.) We're needed at work.
MULDER: What for?
SCULLY: He wouldn't say. But he sounded extremely distraught.
MULDER: If Myers said something, I'm killing him.
SCULLY: No. He would've told me that for sure. He said he had a big problem there.
MULDER: That means we have to leave. (Let's go of her and leans on the kitchen counter. She looks at him.)
SCULLY: It probably has to do with the case I let Reyes and Doggett handle.
MULDER: I told you shouldn't have given it to them. It's only been three days and they already can do it.
SCULLY: We'll see. Let's get ready.
FBI HEADQUARTERS12:35 P.M.
(Mulder and Scully are just entering Skinners office. Reyes is sitting on the sofa. Skinner is sitting behind his desk. Mulder and Scully walk over to his desk, not seeing Reyes.)
SKINNER: Agents. I'm glad to see your back, Mulder.
MULDER: That's scary coming from you sir.
SKINNER: We have a big problem. We've lost an agent. Almost as important as you Agent Mulder. And to make things worse, unlike you, we lose him here right in this building.
SCULLY: Who is this agent, and how are they lost?
REYES: (Still sitting on the sofa, looking over at them.) It was John. And he just disappeared in front of me along with someone else. (Mulder and Scully look behind them toward the sound of the voice.)
SKINNER: Agent Doggett was with Agent Reyes in your office and from the description of the man is still yet unclear.
MULDER: (Looks at Reyes.) Was he tall, and stiffed jawed like with sinister glare?
REYES: How did you know?
MULDER: (Looks at Scully.) Why would the bounty hunter be after Agent Doggett?
SCULLY: I don't know, Mulder. (Reyes stands up and walks over to them.)
REYES: (Approaches Mulder.) You were abducted once. What do they do you? What are they going to do to John? (Mulder backs away from her a little. He suddenly feels the saw going through his chest. Mulder holds the center of his chest. Scully notices.) Are they going to try to kill him as they almost did you? (Mulder leans over in pain, holding his stomach.)
SCULLY: (Puts her arm around him.) Mulder! What's wrong?
MULDER: (Looks at Reyes.) I don't know what he's going to do to him. I don't even know why he took him.
SKINNER: Would someone mind telling me what's going on here?
MULDER: (Looks at Skinner with an unfocused expression.) I wish I knew. I got to go. (Starts to walk out of the office. Skinner looks at Scully she stares at him and follows Mulder out. Reyes sighs and follows them. In Mulder's office, he just walks in through the doorway and stops. He gets visions of the bounty hunter walking in and staring at Reyes and Doggett. Then Mulder gets flashbacks of when convinced Doggett to meet Krycek at an apartment complex. And they inject him with an alien virus. Mulder leans on the doorway. Scully walks up behind him, looking at him.)
SCULLY: What's wrong?
MULDER: I know why now they took him. (Looks at her.) They lied to him over three years ago to meet these people at an apartment complex. Krycek and the smoking man were there at that time. And they injected him with the alien virus that temporarily changed him to an alien like me.
SCULLY: Eighty percent alien and twenty percent human.
MULDER: Exactly.
SCULLY: Why?
MULDER: Since I wouldn't cooperate with them as an alien, they figure they could try Doggett and make him into alien. They'll probably make him so much alien that he'll replace the job of the bounty hunter.
REYES: (Walking up to them.) Say it's not true.
MULDER: (Walks into his office and sits behind his desk.) It's a possibility. I can't think of any other reasons that he would to abduct Agent Doggett.
REYES: Why can't you?
MULDER: For one he doesn't know enough about the colonization for him to be a threat to the bounty hunter.
REYES: You need to find him. He may not survive it like you did!
MULDER: (Looks at her.) I can't just go and find him Agent Reyes.
REYES: Why not? You know where this bounty hunter thing is.
MULDER: No I don't. He's a chameleon. He can be you he can be me. He can even be Scully! Scully and me can go back to my craft and see if it can get a trace on where the bounty hunters ship is. But other then that, finding him is like finding a needle in a haystack.
REYES: Dana found you.
MULDER: Yeah, when there were sightings of abductees dropped off like garbage in UFO prone areas. And when she found me I was clinically dead Agent Reyes! And when I got taken again after that I was more alien then anything at first. Ready to obey the bounty hunter at a drop of a hat. I don't know what he's going to do to Agent Doggett. But I wouldn't be too hopeful if you do find him. I don't know that he could be trusted. Especially if he shows suddenly after several weeks. Which could happen too.
REYES: What if he shows up tonight?
SCULLY: (Walks over to Mulder.) It's unlikely. Mulder at first was gone almost a year. His second abduction was a few months. Agent Doggett will not be himself. Unless you, Monica find him first. Like I did Mulder the second time he was taken from me.
REYES: How do I know where to look?
SCULLY: You won't. You'll have to listen. So far Mulder and me had two cases. One of which he was forbidden to do, due to military reasons to start his case. And mine which dealt with a woman that was eaten alive by an acidic spray. So just listen for FBI calls on missing people and found people and get the testimonials from them. And sometimes with a little luck. You'll find him.
REYES: Why won't you help me?
MULDER: Because we risk getting taken too. And I'm not jeopardizing Scully or myself to help find him. You must do this on your own.
SCULLY: If it comes down to you needing help Agent Reyes. We will. But only if it comes down to it. But for now you must painfully wait. We'll keep our ears and eyes open to anything we hear or see. It's going to take time. He's isn't going to come back anytime soon. I hate to be the one to break that to you. But we'll keep you informed, all right? (Scully looks at Mulder.) Come on Mulder. We have a plane to catch.
REYES: (Watching them as they walk out.) What would you do Dana if it were Fox?
SCULLY: (Stops in her tracks and looks at her.) I would go to his apartment and hope he was there. If not, search it for taps and evidence of any kind that may link to the reasons he was abducted. (Reyes stares at her as Scully follows Mulder out of the office.)
FALLS CHURCH, VIRGINIA
5:30 P.M.
(Reyes unlocks the door to Doggett's house. She turns on the lights.)
-8-
REYES: John? (She looks around the living room and heads upstairs to his bedroom. In the bedroom she turns the lights on.) John, are you in here? (She continues to look around. She notices a file on his dresser. She walks over and opens it. It has details about Mulder's profiles and descriptions of what has happened in his life, dates of when he was abducted, when he married Scully and when their son was taken away from them. Reyes talks to herself.) John, what were you doing?
MARSHALL INN
9 P.M.
(Mulder is in bed, looking over several files concerning Scully's case. Scully comes walking out of the bathroom in her pajamas. Mulder looks over at her.)
MULDER: You look comfy.
SCULLY: I'm far from it.
MULDER: Why? (Scully gets in bed next to him, getting under the covers.)
SCULLY: Because you're working and I'm wanting to go to bed.
MULDER: You're in bed.
SCULLY: I can't sleep with the lights on.
MULDER: Picky. (Mulder puts the files on the night stand and turns out the lights. He covers up in the blankets, turning his back to her.)
-9-
SCULLY: Are you mad at me now or something?
MULDER: No, why?
SCULLY: You have your back turned to me. (Mulder lays on his back. She curls up under his chin, lying on his chest.)
MULDER: So this is what you wanted.
SCULLY: Yes.
MULDER: I see.
SCULLY: I'm scared, Mulder.
MULDER: Of what?
SCULLY: Doggett being gone.
MULDER: Why should that scare you?
SCULLY: I don't want to be involved. But I feel sorry for Agent Reyes. I know how she feels right about now.
MULDER: (Puts his arm on her back.) We don't have to be involved.
SCULLY: Don't you want to help her?
MULDER: Not really.
SCULLY: Why not?
-10-
MULDER: Because I'm tired of dealing with something that is indestructible. We've blown up everyone one of his crafts. Then a mother ship shows up and it restarts all over again. I'm wearing down. I want to quit for good, Scully. Show taillights to the FBI and disappear.
SCULLY: What about my case?
MULDER: We'll finish it and that's it.
SCULLY: What if she needs our help?
MULDER: Did she ever help you find me? (Scully doesn't say anything. Scully cell phone rings.)
SCULLY: Figures. That's my phone.
MULDER: I thought you turned your phone off at night?
SCULLY: (Sits up.) I do. But I forgot to. (She gets out of bed and walks over to the dresser. She picks it up.) Scully. (Pause.) Agent Reyes, what is it?
REYES: (Still in Doggett's house.) I did what you said and searched John's house.
SCULLY: (Sits on the edge of the bed near Mulder.) And?
REYES: I don't know how to tell you this. But John is only back with the FBI for one reason.
SCULLY: What are you talking about?
REYES: He's been re-hired to kill Fox. (Scully expression turns to fear.) I don't think I'll be the one to see him first should he return. I think you all will be.
-11-
SCULLY: How do you know this?
REYES: He has Mulder's personal files and profiles. He also has a file that was not reviewed by the FBI concerning Mulder's abductions, details of your son being taken away. (Scully gets quiet.) Dana?
SCULLY: (Looks at Mulder, he's staring at her in concern.) Yeah.
REYES: What should we do?
SCULLY: I don't know. I got to hide Mulder first. (Mulder sits up, staring at her.)
REYES: Why would you do that?
SCULLY: (Puts her hand on Mulder's chest, looking him in the face.) I don't want to lose him for good. I've been lucky the last few times. But I'm not so sure I'll be lucky again.
REYES: Being he's part alien. I'm sure he can take care of himself.
SCULLY: (Looks at the floor.) You don't understand Agent Reyes. If Mulder comes in contact with Agent Doggett after the bounty hunter gets through with Doggett. It's over. Mulder's strength is half at where it needs to be for him to defend himself.
REYES: Why?
SCULLY: When the bounty hunter got a hold of Mulder and tried making him one hundred percent human again. He became week and powerless. It's going to be another week in half before he's strong again.
-12-
REYES: Well who's to say when John will be back. Like you said it may be several months.
SCULLY: I know. (Looks at Mulder. Mulder leans against the headboard, looking at her.)
REYES: I'll look around more through his house. And see if I can find anything else. I'll keep in touch.
SCULLY: Okay. (Turns her phone off.)
MULDER: What's going on?
SCULLY: (Sits next to him and lays on his chest.) Reyes went looking through Doggett's house and found your personal and profile folder about you.
MULDER: What?! What's he doing with my files?
SCULLY: Reyes thinks he had it because he's going to kill you.
MULDER: How did he get a hold of it?
SCULLY: I don't know.
MULDER: I got an idea who it could be that did give it to him.
SCULLY: Who?
MULDER: Spender.
SCULLY: How's that possible. Doggett don't even know Spender.
-13-
MULDER: The man has personal folder, Scully. That's the only way he could've gotten it.
SCULLY: (Sits up and looks at him.) Then how did Spender get a hold of it? Mulder your profile is in that folder. She told me what it said. It's been updated to the grim detail. Form the different times you've been abducted to the time our son was taken away from us.
MULDER: Looks like were inherently involved aren't we? (Scully stares at him.) Now we got no choice but to help Reyes find him.
FBI HEADQUARTERS
11 A.M.
(Reyes is walking to Skinners office.)
FOLLUMER: Agent Reyes! (Reyes stops in her tracks and turns to the direction of the voice.)
REYES: A.D. Follumer? What are you doing back? (He walks up to her.)
FOLLUMER: I was called in two weeks ago to come back.
REYES: Why, what for?
FOLLUMER: To replace Director Kersh. He's retiring.
REYES: (Shocked.) Retiring?
FOLLUMER: Yeah. So I've been asked to fill in his place.
REYES: I guess congratulations is in order.
-14-
FOLLUMER: Thank you. Where's your partner?
REYES: He took a day off.
FOLLUMER: And you're not with him? I find that surprising.
REYES: I don't have time for this. (Starts walking toward Skinners office again. Follumer follows her.)
FOLLUMER: You know you and me. We could make it work this time.
REYES: (Stops walking and looks at him.) No we can't Director Follumer. Now if you will excuse me. (Walks on leaving him standing there.)
FOLLUMER: A.D. Skinner is in a meeting if that's where you are headed. (Reyes stops and turns around. She walks past him toward the elevator.)
REYES: I hate you. (In Mulder's office, Mulder is sitting behind his desk. Reyes comes walking in and stops in her tracks. Mulder looks up at who walked in.) Where's Dana?
SCULLY: (Walks out of the lab part of Mulder's office.) Right here. What's up?
REYES: It's not safe for you two here.
MULDER: Since when is it ever. Why isn't it this time? (Reyes looks at him and back at Scully.)
REYES: Kersh is retiring. Follumer is taking his place. (Mulder purposely drops his pen and sits back in his chair in disgust.)
-15-
MULDER: That explains a lot. (Looks at Reyes.) How long has he been back?
REYES: He told me two weeks.
SCULLY: I assume you saw him?
REYES: Yeah. Unfortunately. I didn't know you two were here yet so I was going to see Skinner. And there was Follumer roaming the halls.
MULDER: (Looks at Scully.) That's where Doggett got my files.
REYES: (Looks at Mulder.) From Follumer? No way. John can't stand him.
MULDER: (Stands up.) Tides change. (Follumer walks into the office and stops.)
FOLLUMER: They most certainly do. What are you doing back Agent Mulder?
MULDER: Funny you should ask. Because I was wondering the same thing about you.
FOLLUMER: Still the same cocky agent I see. Are you still part alien Agent Mulder? (Mulder stares at him. Follumer looks at Scully lustfully. Mulder notices and gets near her. She backs up into Mulder a little.) Your wife Agent Mulder is looking ever better then I remember her few years ago. You're mighty lucky. Well I must be going. I just wanted to check in on everyone. (Walks out of the office. Mulder suddenly leans into the wall. Scully looks at him.)
SCULLY: What's wrong?
-16-
MULDER: I don't know. I got weak all of the sudden.
REYES: What's going on?
SCULLY: I don't know. Maybe you've been out to long, Mulder. Why don't we go home?
MULDER: (Looks at her.) I can't argue with that.
SCULLY: (Looks at Reyes.) I'm going to take him home. Keep in touch okay?
REYES: I will. (Scully and Mulder walk out of the office.)
MARTHA'S VINEYARD
2:30 P.M.
(Mulder is laying on the sofa. His eyes are closed. Scully walks out of the kitchen with a cup of tea.)
SCULLY: (Sits beside him.) You want a cup of tea, honey?
MULDER: (Looks at her, putting his hand on her back.) No. I just want you. (Scully sits her coffee cup on the table and puts her hand on his chest.)
SCULLY: You have me. You know that. What happened back at the office? You were fine until Follumer came in.
MULDER: I'm not sure. But I have an eerie feeling that he's in co-hoax with the bounty hunter. Heck maybe he's alien now too.
-17-
SCULLY: I hope that's not true. (Looks at the floor. From her point of view everything starts getting blurred then focused again. She brushes the hair out of her face. Things start getting blurry again. Mulder notices the look on her face.)
MULDER: Scully, what's wrong?
SCULLY: I don't know. My vision is getting blurred. I'm getting dizzy.
MULDER: (Draws her down to lay with him.) Come here. (She lays down with her back to him. He holds her from behind.) You're getting stressed. I'm sorry.
SCULLY: Your not stressing me out.
MULDER: Yes I am. You're worrying yourself sick over me. And I don't mean to make you worry. We both can't be sick. Remember that I get my strength from you. Come to think about it. I haven't been able to get much energy from you lately. Are you sick Scully and your not telling me?
SCULLY: I'm fine, Mulder.
MULDER: No you're not. I want you to go to the doctor and get checked out.
SCULLY: No. You need protection.
MULDER: And you need a doctor. Just to check you over. I got a feeling you haven't been sleeping lately. You're exhausted. Do this for me, okay?
SCULLY: (Cuddles up to him.) I will. Once we get Doggett found. (Mulder sighs in frustration.)
-18-
MULDER: Scully.
SCULLY: I'm not going to leave you alone. You're not strong enough.
MULDER: I'm not strong enough because you're not strong enough. And you sure couldn't protect me now if you wanted to. You can't even sit up.
SCULLY: All right. You win.
5 P.M.
(Mulder and Scully are still asleep on the couch. Scully wakes up and stares across the room. She manages to get loose of Mulder's hold and sits up. She stands up and rushes down the hall to the bathroom. Outside the bathroom coughing is heard.)
10 A.M.
DAY 1
(Scully is asleep on the recliner, covered in a blanket. Mulder is still laying on the sofa asleep. There's a knock at the door, waking Mulder up. He sits up and growls a little. He notices Scully on the recliner and stares at her funny. There's another knock. Mulder stands up and sneaks up to the door. He peeks out the side window, through curtains to see who it is. It's Jeremiah. Mulder opens the door.)
MULDER: What are you doing here? (Jeremiah walks on into the house.) Please come right on in.
JEREMIAH: The bounty hunter has an agent. (Looks at Mulder.) And he's changing him to one hundred percent alien.
-19-
MULDER: I already know. What are you doing here?
JEREMIAH: How much of your alien abilities have returned to you?
MULDER: Virtually all but my strength.
JEREMIAH: Why?
MULDER: Scully's sick for one.
JEREMIAH: I forgot you get your energy from her. You should've never married.
MULDER: You start in on my marriage again, you can leave now! (Scully wakes up.)
SCULLY: (Looks over at them.) Mulder?
MULDER: (Walks over to her.) Now you woke her up. (Kneels down beside her and takes her hand.)
SCULLY: What's Jeremiah doing here?
MULDER: (Looks over at Jeremiah.) He never did say.
JEREMIAH: (Walks over to them.) I came to tell you about that agent and to see how you were doing.
MULDER: I'm touched. (Looks at Scully.) How do you feel?
SCULLY: Lousy.
JEREMIAH: What's wrong with you?
Scully: I don't know. I'm nauseated and dizzy. I'm real weak.
-20-
JEREMIAH: (Looks at her.) Look at me. (He stares at her eyes and takes her arm to check her pulse. Mulder growls. Jeremiah looks at his watch.) Chill Agent Mulder. I'm just checking her pulse. (Scully looks at Mulder and back at Jeremiah.) I don't' have the proper testing equipment to confirm my observation. But from what I can tell. You're pregnant.
SCULLY: Pregnant? There's no way.
JEREMIAH: The first two times there was 'no way'. But look what happened. You gave birth to one and one didn't take. But still you got pregnant.
SCULLY: What I meant was that me and Mulder haven't done anything for me to be.
JEREMIAH: You forget he's part alien. He doesn't have to if he don't want to. But like I said. I don't have anything to confirm that. You may just have a small touch of the stomach flu. But I would go to your doctor to be sure either way. This is about the worst time for this to happen though.
SCULLY: Why?
JEREMIAH: Because the bounty hunter is turning an FBI agent into one hundred percent alien. And Mulder needs the strength to confront him.
SCULLY: (Looks at Mulder.) Doggett!? (Mulder nods yes.)
JEREMIAH: I must be going. (Walks out of the house. Scully looks at Mulder.)
SCULLY: Stomach flu?
-21-
FBI HEADQUARTERS
DAY 2 3 P.M.
(Reyes is in Mulder's office sitting at her desk. Follumer comes walking in.)
FOLLUMER: Agent Reyes, what are you working on? (She closes the file and looks up at him.)
REYES: Nothing at the moment. I'm just looking through old stuff.
FOLLUMER: Really? (Looks at the file on her desk and snatches it. He opens it and reads it.) Agent Mulder's personal files. (Looks at her.) How did you get this?
REYES: It was sitting in here and I was looking at what it was.
FOLLUMER: Uh huh. Being you're partners with Agent Doggett. I understand how you got it.
REYES: Sir?
FOLLUMER: I'd watch where you tread Agent Reyes if I were you. (Throws the file down on her desk.) There are some things you have no business knowing. (Walks out of the office. Reyes stares across the office and looks down at the file. She grabs it and walks out of the office. In Skinners office, he's on the phone. Reyes barges on in and over to his desk. He looks up at her.)
SKINNER: I'll talk to you later. (Hangs the phone up.)
REYES: (Throws Mulder's file on his desk.) What do you think your trying to do?
-22-
SKINNER: (Notices what file it is and looks at her.) Where did you get this?
REYES: From Agent Doggett's house!
SKINNER You're going though another agents property with out a warrant?
REYES: Did you have a warrant to give away Mulder's personal files? (Skinner stares at her.) Agent Doggett and me always trusted each other enough that we gave each other keys to our homes.
SKINNER: Okay. Why did Agent Doggett have Agent Mulder's personal files?
REYES: I don't know. I thought you being assistant director and all that some how you would know. (Mulder and Scully come walking into the office.)
SKINNER: (Stands up.) What is this, a carryout restaurant?
MULDER: Your secretary wasn't at her desk. (They both walk over to Skinner.) Why did you let Follumer have my personal files, sir?
SKINNER: Agent Reyes has them now.
MULDER: Why did you give it out sir?
SKINNER: I did it because Director Follumer requested it.
MULDER: Did he happen to give a reason? (Skinner looks at his desk.)
SKINNER: That's irrelevant.
-23-
MULDER: No it isn't, sir! If I didn't know better I think you were trying to get us killed!
SKINNER: (Looks at him.) Look Agent Mulder! You just can't tell the Director of the FBI no! He asks for something, he gets it. Despite the reasons!
MULDER: Well I hope you think twice when I'm dead! (Starts to walk out of the office.)
SKINNER: Agent Mulder! (Mulder is already out the door, followed by Scully. Skinner looks at Reyes.)
REYES: Don't look at me. I'd say you dug your own grave on this one. (Starts to leave.)
SKINNER: Where's Agent Doggett?
REYES: I don't know. He's been gone almost a week now. (Walks out of the office. In Mulder's office, Mulder sits down behind his desk in disgust. Scully walks in and stands in front of his desk, looking at him.)
MULDER: Now we got to wait.
SCULLY: We maybe blowing this whole thing out of proportion.
MULDER: How? People who are stealing my files violated me. What little private life I had now it's has been taken away from me. (Scully starts to say something to him just as Reyes walks in.)
-24-
REYES: I got confirmation about who gave John that folder of yours, Agent Mulder. (Mulder stares at her.) It was Follumer.
MULDER: (Looks at Scully.) See what did I tell you?
REYES: You two need to get out of town. To the other side of the country or something.
MULDER: We can't.
REYES: Why not?
MULDER: Scully's pregnant. (Reyes looks at Scully in shock.)
REYES: Dana? (Scully looks at her.) Is this true?
SCULLY: I got confirmation earlier this afternoon by my doctor.
REYES: How far are you along?
SCULLY: Almost a month.
REYES: (Looks at Mulder.) I'm surprised you don't have her home or that you're even you near her.
MULDER: Only if she's in a threatening place or someone gets near her I don't trust.
REYES: I guess I can be trusted then. That's reassuring. You all don't seem so excited about it.
-25-
SCULLY: We are. But right now with all that's going on. It's kind of hard to be. Especially when I've lost my first child before William.
REYES So what are you going to do now?
SCULLY: Well Mulder's alien senses are off the scale. So he'll know when someone threatening comes near us, which will give us enough time to get out of arms way.
REYES: So I take it his senses are off the scale due to you being pregnant. I knew he couldn't be calm for to long. (Mulder quickly stands up and growls at the doorway. He walks over to Scully and keeps close to her. Reyes looks at the doorway.) What's going on?
SCULLY: (Looks at him.) What is it, Mulder? (He puts his arm around her waist. He's still staring at the doorway, slightly growling. Follumer comes walking to the doorway.)
REYES: (Looks at Follumer.) That explains it.
FOLLUMER: Explain what? (Mulder is still growling at him.) You better put that alien growl away, Agent Mulder. Or I'll call the pound. (Mulder glares at him, keeping Scully close.)
REYES: What are you in here for?
FOLLUMER: Skinner asked me to come get you. The phones aren't working and no one in this office has their cell phone on. So he sent me down her to tell you.
REYES: Come get me for what?
FOLLUMER: He has something to tell you. He wouldn't tell me what. (Walks back out of the office. Reyes looks at Mulder and Scully.)
-26-
REYES: Do you think it could be about John?
SCULLY: I don't know. But you better get up there and find out. (Reyes leaves the office. Scully looks at Mulder. He's still staring at the doorway.) Mulder?
MULDER: (Looks at her.) I want to go to your apartment.
SCULLY: Why, what's wrong?
MULDER: I don't know. But something's wrong. We need to get out of here. Something big is going to happen and it's not good.
SCULLY: What, here?
MULDER: No. But something's going on. And I don't want to be here to find out what. (The phone rings. Mulder looks back at it and picks it up.) Mulder.
JEREMIAH: Sightings have been confirmed all over Mountain Home Idaho. I believe that agent that the bounty hunter has is either released or is about to be. You and your wife need to get out here A.S.A.P.
MULDER: Why us? If he is after why would I go out there to meet him.
JEREMIAH: Does this agent have a partner?
MULDER: Yes?
JEREMIAH: She'll need to get out here too. I need you two to help me put a stop to his plans. He'll be exposed out there. You all may have to camp out with the other UFO buffs that our being drawn to the sight.
-27-
MULDER: The answer is no Jeremiah. Being Scully and me both have been abducted, we risk a high chance of being taken again if we just waltz on out there.
JEREMIAH: I know the risks. But his partner is going to need your help getting him back. And if you don't want him haunting your steps for the rest of your days. You will help her.
MULDER: If I get any kind of confirmation I'll do it. Other then that. You better quite calling me. (Hangs up the phone. Scully looks at him.) There have been several UFO sightings at Mountain Home Idaho. The bounty hunter is dumping his abductees.
SCULLY: Who was that on the phone?
MULDER: Jeremiah.
SCULLY: We need to tell Reyes. We need to get out there.
MULDER: Do you want to risk getting abducted again, Scully? We're getting into a hot spot out there. (Scully stares at him.) Call the airlines. (Scully gets her cell phone out.) We're going to need three tickets. (Scully dials a number. Mulder's phone rings again.) Mulder.
REYES: (Outside Skinner's office.) It's me, Agent Reyes. I'm going to Mountain Home Idaho. Skinner just told me there had been UFO sightings out there.
MULDER: We know, Scully's getting three tickets. One for you.
REYES: You two are going?
-28-
MULDER: Yeah. We have a tent in the office here. You're going to have ask Skinner if he can come up with one for you.
REYES: He didn't say anything about camping out, out there.
MULDER: He doesn't know anything about abduction sites either. It's not going to happen right away. It may be another twenty-four hours. So you might as well be comfortable why you wait.
REYES: You know you two don't have to do this. It would be like stepping into a trap for you two.
MULDER: (Looks over at Scully.) I know. But we have no other choice.
REYES: When are you leaving?
MULDER: (Scully gets off her phone and looks at Mulder.) This is Reyes, when are we leaving?
SCULLY: We leave at six tonight.
MULDER: We're leaving at six tonight.
REYES: Okay that'll give me time to rush home and pack a few things. I'll see you guys at the airport. (Mulder hangs up the phone and looks at Scully.)
MULDER: I'm going to bring our air mattress.
SCULLY: We don't have time to go home, Mulder. We have just enough time to get to my apartment, pack a few things and leave.
-29-
MOUTAIN HOME IDAHO
7 P.M.
(Over a hundred teenagers and a few adults have tent set up, and campfires going. They're all wandering about the clearing. Mulder, Scully and Reyes walk up the hill part of the clearing and stops, looking at all the people. Mulder has a large hiking pack gear on his back. Scully has medium size hiking gear on her back.)
MULDER: This is ridiculous. If these people only knew what's going to happen to them.
SCULLY: (Looks at Mulder.) Should we be this close, Mulder?
MULDER: He's not coming to take people. He's coming to drop off his trash. (A teenage rushes up to him.)
SCOTT: Hey, dudes! There's an opening for you all to wait at across the field there! (All three of them stare at him.) Oh, I'm so sorry. My name is Scott. You guys couldn't have came at a better time! This is going to be so awesome.
MULDER: What is?
SCOTT: Oh dudes! You don't even know what's going on here. They've must have drawn you too.
MULDER: They who?
SCOTT: (Looks up at the sky.) Them! They're coming to take us out of this crazy planet. It's going to be so awesome. Well look I won't keep you. You have a lot of setting up to do. (Walks away. Reyes walks up beside Mulder and Scully.)
-30-
REYES: Now I'm totally freaked out.
MULDER: (Looks at Reyes then at Scully.) Let's go over here to the corner of this clearing. We'll stay clear of the action.
REYES: What action? What supposed to happen here?
MULDER: I don't know yet. (They walk over to the corner of the clearing and lay down their gear on the ground. Mulder looks around cautiously as he starts getting their tent off his hiking gear.)
2 ½ HOURS LATER
(Mulder and Scully's 12/10-foot tent is set up. Mulder is pounding in the stakes a little further into the ground, around his tent. Reyes is a few feet from their tent, locking down the rain tarp on to her tent. She looks over at Mulder.)
Reyes: Where's Dana?
MULDER: (Pounding in the last stake.) Inside, getting ready to go to sleep.
REYES: Did you guys bring an air mattress?
MULDER: Yeah, I made Scully pick one up before we headed to the airport.
REYES: I didn't think about picking one up.
MULDER: Well you better get some sleep. We're all going to need it. (Reyes looks across the way at all the people around a campfire.) They don't sleep much. Or if they do it's cat naps. (Walks into his tent. Reyes just stands there.)
-31-
1 P.M.
(The scene reveals the entire field. Suddenly a craft like Mulder's shows up hovering over all the tents. The few that are sleeping outside in sleeping bags wake up and notice the craft. Some of them stand up staring up at it. Inside Mulder and Scully's tent, they're both in the same sleeping bag. She's asleep on his chest. Mulder wakes up, staring at the top of the tent. A light suddenly illuminates his tent. Screams are heard and suddenly silenced the same time the goes off. Mulder holds Scully tight and covers her head up. Suddenly his tent flap is unzipped. He quickly gets on his side, growling.)
REYES: Mulder, where's Dana? (Mulder lays his head on Scully's shoulder.) What did I scare you?
MULDER: Scully is with me. And yes you did.
REYES: I heard screams and saw a bright light. Now everyone that was out here are gone but their tents. (Mulder uncovers Scully.)
MULDER: Scully. (She opens her eyes and looks at him.)
SCULLY: (Half-asleep.) What is it?
MULDER: We need to get up. It was here.
SCULLY: (Stretching.) What was?
REYES: The UFO. There's no one left out here. (Scully notices her and gets closer to Mulder. Burying her head in his chest, in slight fear of her.)
SCULLY: Mulder is that really Agent Reyes?
-32-
REYES: Now she's afraid of me.
MULDER: (Looks at Reyes.) Give us a few minutes and we'll be right out. (Reyes leaves. Mulder looks at Scully.) Now you're acting like me.
SCULLY: (Looks at him.) Why didn't I hear it?
MULDER: You were under my protective care. You wouldn't have. We better get out there and see if the bounty hunter left his garbage lying around.
SCULLY: Why are you being so mean about this?
MULDER: Because no one helped you find me except Skinner. And secondly I never cared for Doggett. (Sits up.)
SCULLY: (Sitting up.) You're just plain mean. (Outside, Reyes is wandering around the deserted tents. Mulder and Scully walk out of their tent looking around with Mulder's flashlight.) I don't believe it.
MULDER: You should by now, honey. (They both walk over to Reyes. Reyes stops and looks at them.)
SCULLY: Find anything?
REYES: Not yet. How did this happen?
SCULLY: It's their technology.
REYES: Can it be stopped?
SCULLY: (Looks at Mulder. He's staring at the sky.) What are you doing?
-33-
MULDER: He's still here.
REYES: (Looks up at the sky and back at him.) Who is?
MULDER: The bounty hunter.
SCULLY: (Looks up at the sky and gets closer to Mulder.) Mulder. Let's get out of here.
REYES: What about John?
MULDER: (Walks toward his tent. Scully follows.) What about him?
SCULLY: (Stops where she is.) Mulder, that's not fair.
MULDER: (Walks on.) Life's not fair, Scully. Get out of the circle before you abducted again. (Scully looks around her surroundings and notices where the grass has the appearance of being smashed down. Scully looks at Reyes.)
SCULLY: Agent Reyes follow me. (Reyes looks at her.)
REYES: What is it?
SCULLY: Just come with me. (Reyes follows her out of the circle. Reyes looks back and notices it from the moonlight.)
REYES: What the heck is going on here? (Scully looks back at Mulder. He's heading back to her with another flashlight.)
MULDER: (Hands Reyes the flashlight.) Here, you're going to need this. If we're going to find him.
SCULLY: (Looking at him.) We?
-34-
MULDER: Yes. Let's go before I change my mind. (He starts to walk toward the site again. Suddenly he's thrown to the ground. Scully and Reyes look at him in confusion. Mulder is suddenly thrown into a tree.)
SCULLY: (Starts to go after him.) Mulder! (Reyes stops her. Scully glares at her.)
REYES: Wait. We don't know what this thing is. (Mulder tries standing up. He tries looking for Scully; his vision is blurred.)
MULDER: Scully, what's happening? (He gets picked up by the lapels, invisibly. Suddenly he hears a voice.)
VOICE: How does it feel Agent Mulder!? How does it feel to be the one getting thrown around?!
MULDER: (Weak and having trouble breathing.) Who are you? (Suddenly the person shows up standing in front of Mulder, holding him against the tree. It's Doggett. Reyes notices and stares at him in shock.)
DOGGETT: Surprise. Now you're not the only one that has special abilities! (Throws Mulder into the center of the circle.)
REYES: John, stop! (Doggett looks over at her. Scully stares at them both in fear.)
DOGGETT: Monica, where've you been?
REYES: I've been looking for you.
-35-
DOGGETT: I've been on a little trip with a friend. He's helped me with a lot of things. You should get to know him. He can change your whole aspect on life. And give you abilities you've only dream of having.
REYES: What's got into you?
DOGGETT: Nothing. I just have some unfinished business to attend to with Agent Mulder. That's all. (Goes to look over at Mulder he's gone. Doggett glares at the ground and looks over at Reyes.) Now see what you made me do. You made me lose my prey! (Suddenly Doggett gets thrown down on the ground and his back gets slashed. He lies there in pain. Reyes starts to approach him. Scully stops her.)
SCULLY: No, don't. That's not Agent Doggett. He's dead.
REYES: How can you say that. He's right there. He needs medical attention.
SCULLY: No medical attention can help him now.
REYES: How did you help Mulder? He's part alien.
SCULLY: Part alien yes. Doggett is alien.
REYES: (Looks over at Doggett on the ground and back at Scully. Reyes nods her head no.) No, no you're wrong. That's John. He needs help. Help me get him to a hospital. (Doggett stands up, in pain.)
DOGGETT: I'm fine, Monica. It's just a scratch. (Reyes looks at him and notices the scratch through his tee shirt. It has some blood on it from the injury. Scully notices and looks at him confused.)
SCULLY: He's bleeding red.
-36-
REYES: What? (Suddenly Doggett gets thrown into a tree and lifted up invisibly. Growing is heard.)
DOGGETT: Give it up Mulder! I'll kill you before you kill me! (Mulder shows up, holding him against the tree.)
MULDER: (His eyes are black and sharp nails extract from his hand that has a hold of Doggett's neck.) Not if I can help it!
REYES: (Runs over to Mulder.) Fox no! (Mulder looks at her. Just as he does, Doggett extracts his long sharp nails. They have an acid green substance coming off of them. He slashes Mulder's chest. Mulder backs away, letting go of Doggett. And falls to his knees in pain. Scully runs over to him. Reyes stands there in shock at what Doggett just did.)
DOGGETT: Thanks Monica. That distraction was just what I needed. (Doggett disappears. Reyes stands there with a confused expression.)
SCULLY: (Holding Mulder across her lap.) Mulder, look at me. (Mulder weakly looks at her. Blood is coming out of his mouth. She has tears in her eyes.) Don't you dare leave me!
REYES: (Looking down at them.) How is he?
SCULLY: (Crying.) I don't know. I'm a doctor and there's nothing I can do!
REYES: (Gets tears in her eyes.) Why what's wrong with him?
-37-
SCULLY: Doggett slashed at him with an acidic poison that apparently was on his nails. (Glares at her.) He needs to be killed Monica! Don't you understand!? (Looks down at Mulder. Mulder starts to close his eyes.) No, honey stay awake. You got to stay awake and fight this thing.
MULDER: (Weakening and sweating.) I- I don't know if I can Scully. I don't know what he put –into me.
SCULLY: Agent Reyes get me some water out of our tent. Quickly. (Reyes rushes to their tent.) Talk to me honey.
MULDER: I'm—weakening Scully. It's starting to enter my blood stream. I can feel it.
SCULLY: Fight it Mulder. Don't allow it to take you over. (Reyes rushes back to Scully when she suddenly stopped by someone.)
JEREMIAH: Wait! (Scully notices him and looks up at him.) You'll kill him quicker with that.
SCULLY: (Tears in her eyes.) I don't know what to do Jeremiah. He's dying fast.
JEREMIAH: Sit him up. (Scully carefully makes Mulder sit up. Jeremiah kneels down near Mulder.) Look at me Agent Mulder. Make it leave your body.
MULDER: (Weak.) I can't.
JEREMIAH: There's no such word as can't! Now do it!
MULDER: I'm—too weak.
-38-
JEREMIAH: Do it Mulder! You can't stay here. You have to conquer this thing. It's just a virus! (Mulder starts breathing heavy. He leans over, staring at the ground. He vomits out the poison. He leans back on Scully. She holds him carefully around his stomach. Jeremiah looks at Reyes.) You can give him that water now. (Reyes hands Scully the water. Scully opens the bottle and looks at Mulder. Mulder puts his head up under her chin.)
SCULLY: Here honey. (Mulder takes it and drinks a little bit out of it and hands it back.)
JEREMIAH: All of you need to get out of here. The bounty hunter is getting ready to scour this place to where there is no evidence of anything here. (Scully stares at him.) As far as Mulder is concerned, he will need to rest for a few hours to recuperate from what poison that did enter his system. But he'll be fine.
REYES: (Looks at Jeremiah.) What about my partner?
JEREMIAH: (Stands up.) He's one hundred percent alien. There's no recovery or changing him back.
REYES: You're alien and you're working for the good.
JEREMIAH: I'm not alien. I'm a clone. Mulder is alien. But he has more human attributes then alien. So he has the ability of choice. (Looks at Scully.) Where's your car?
SCULLY: On the other side of the mountain. Why?
JEREMIAH: I'll help you get Mulder to your car. Then you should get a hotel so he can rest. Then go back home.
SCULLY: Come on Mulder. Sit up.
-39-
(Mulder slowly sits up. Scully stands up. Jeremiah and Scully help Mulder to stand up. Once he's up he cringes in pain, holding his chest.)
SCULLY: Take it easy. Let's get out of here. (All four of them start walking to the car. Scully walks beside Mulder, slowly helping him along. As they're walking their way down there mountain side, Mulder is suddenly knocked down to the ground. He goes rolling down the hillside.) Mulder! (Scully goes running after him.)
JEREMIAH: Scully no!
REYES: What's going on?
JEREMIAH: You're partner is back. (He rushes down the hillside followed by Reyes. Mulder stops rolling as the hill evens out. He lies there in pain. Hardly able to breathe due to it. Doggett suddenly appears on top of Mulder. Scully notices and stops in her tracks.)
DOGGETT: Revenge is painful isn't it Agent Mulder? (Mulder starts growling.) Growling isn't going to help you now! (Mulder closes his eyes. Suddenly a tree starts falling. Doggett looks up at it. Mulder kicks Doggett off of himself and stands up. Mulder gets out of the way of the falling tree as it hits the ground. Doggett, on the other side of it, jumps on top of it.) That wasn't very nice Agent Mulder! (Doggett goes to jump on Mulder. Mulder suddenly disappears. Doggett looks around and notices Reyes, Scully and Jeremiah stand ten feet away from him. He glares at Jeremiah.) You! (Doggett looks around and stares at Scully.) I see your wife Agent Mulder! She's standing here with two fools who are unable to protect her from me!
-40-
(Reyes glares at him. Mulder suddenly shows up by Scully. Scully jumps and looks at him. The front of his shirt is getting soaked in blood from him.)
MULDER: (Trying to hide his weakness.) That would be kind of hard for you to get to her with me protecting her.
DOGGETT: That doesn't make any difference. You're so weak; you wouldn't be able to anyway.
MULDER: Is that right? (Doggett goes flying into a tree behind him.) How does it feel to be thrown into a tree for you? (Suddenly Doggett gets thrown and falls to the ground in front of Jeremiah.) Now who's the week one?
JEREMIAH: Enough Mulder. (Jeremiah gets a stiletto out of his pocket and sits on top of Doggett's back. Reyes notices what he's doing.)
REYES: No wait. (Approaches Jeremiah. He looks at her.) Can't we take him to a facility that can help him?
JEREMIAH: There is no help for him. He's beyond rescue. This is the only way. (Mulder leans into Scully, getting weak. Scully puts her arm around his waist. Reyes looks back at Scully.)
REYES: Dana, is this all true?
SCULLY: I'm afraid he's right. There's nothing medical science can do to undo what the bounty hunter has done to him. Only one that could undo it would be the bounty hunter. And there's no way that's going to happen.
-41-
REYES: (Looks at Jeremiah.) There's no way I'm going to let you take an innocent man's life. If there was help for Mulder then most certainly there's hope for John. (Jeremiah looks over at Scully. Scully takes her handcuffs and throws them over to him.)
SCULLY: Knock him out and cuff him. I know a place he can be taken to that we alone can test him. (Jeremiah knocks Doggett out by punching him in the face one time. Then he handcuffs his hands behind his back.)
REYES: (Looks at Jeremiah and Scully.)Was that really necessary?
SCULLY: Right now it is. Let's get away from this place. Help Jeremiah with Doggett. I'm helping Mulder to the car. (She walks Mulder on toward the car. Reyes and Jeremiah carry Doggett.)
3 A.M.
ROCKY LODGE INN
(Scully is walking out of her hotel room and stands outside the room. Reyes walks out of hers, which is next door to Scully. Jeremiah walks over to them.)
JEREMIAH: How do you plan to get her partner to D.C.? If he wakes up, he'll get away.
SCULLY: I was just giving Agent Reyes these. (Holds up a prescription bottle.) There's only two left.
REYES: What is it?
-42-
SCULLY: I give it to Mulder when he's in pain and can't sleep. Give Agent Doggett two of these. And he'll be asleep till we can get him to D.C.
REYES: Thanks I think. How am I to get him to take these?
SCULLY: When he seems to wake up. Have him take them. Tell him it's to help for the pain.
JEREMIAH: I must go since you two seem to have everything under control. If you don't, you got Mulder. He should be strong enough by tomorrow. I'll return to D.C. in a week or so.
SCULLY: Thanks Jeremiah. (Jeremiah walks away.)
REYES: (Looks at Scully.) How is Mulder?
SCULLY: He's asleep. And that's just what I'm going to do. Good night Agent Reyes. Don't forget to give that to him when he wakes up.
REYES: I won't. Good night. (Scully walks into her hotel room and closes the door. Reyes looks at the prescription bottle and walks into her room. Inside, Doggett is laying on the bed, on his side. His hands are still handcuffed to his back. Reyes sits on the second bed and looks over at him. He's glaring at her.) John, you're awake.
DOGGETT: (Weak) Why did you let them do this to me, Monica?
-43-
REYES: I didn't. And you're not yourself. (Walks into the bathroom. She opens the prescription bottle and throws the pills into a cup she takes the pills apart and dumps the powder into the cup. She fills the cup with water and takes it over to Doggett. She sits at the edge of the bed by him. He growls at her.)
DOGGETT: What are you doing?
REYES: I thought you might want a drink of water.
DOGGETT: For what? So you can put me to sleep again?
REYES: What?
DOGGETT: Don't play dumb with me! I can read your mind. You got sedatives from Agent Scully.
REYES: Yes I did. But it's to help you sleep. You got to be exhausted.
DOGGETT: I'm fine. I just need to get Mulder out of the picture!
REYES: Why? He's an innocent human being.
DOGGETT: He's part alien. And he won't cooperate with the bounty hunter.
REYES: Because the bounty hunter wants to kill off the human race.
DOGGETT: Yeah, so? The human race is taken up what his alien race needs. All the humans are doing is contaminating it.
-44-
REYES: You're human. Are you going to destroy yourself?
DOGGETT: No. I'm not human. Not anymore.
REYES: Yes you are. I don't care what that bounty hunter thing has done to you! John, I love you! Don't you know that?
DOGGETT: No, you never told me. I didn't even know you did.
REYES: (Puts her hand on his shoulder.) Well I do. And I always have. (He stares at her for a second and turns his head away.)
DOGGETT: Don't Monica. I can't get involved.
REYES: Why not? You can use this alien ability like Mulder can.
DOGGETT: (Looks at her.) Yeah? Do you know it's gradually killing Mulder?
REYES: How?
DOGGETT: You notice how weak he's been getting lately? And with me poisoning him didn't help any.
REYES: He's not weak because he's part alien. He's weak because Scully is pre—(Stops herself.) because of Scully and protecting her.
DOGGETT: (Looks at her with a sly expression.) You were about to say something else.
REYES: (Stands up.) No I wasn't.
-45-
DOGGETT: She's pregnant isn't she? (Reyes glares at him.)
REYES: John, if you do anything to her so help me God!
DOGGETT: (Interrupts her.) Oh don't worry. It won't be me. (Reyes gets near him and grabs his shirt.)
REYES: Then who?!
DOGGETT: Why should I tell you!? (Reyes punches him in the face, knocking him out again.)
9 A.M.
(Scully is carrying out what little luggage she has to the car. Reyes walks out of her hotel room watching Scully. Scully goes back to her room and notices her.)
SCULLY: (Looks at Reyes.) Rough night?
REYES: You could say that.
SCULLY: Did you give Agent Doggett those pills?
REYES: I couldn't. He already knew what they were.
SCULLY: That's great. Now what are we going to do? You still got him don't you?
REYES: He said something last night that made me mad and I knocked him out. So yes I still have him. (Scully stares at her and walks back into her room.)
SCULLY: Oh brother. (Mulder walks out and notices Reyes.)
MULDER: Good morning. (Walks on out to the car.)
-46-
REYES: Hey.
MULDER: (Throws his bag into the trunk and looks over at her.) What's wrong?
REYES: (Looks at the ground and back at him.) Oh nothing. I didn't get enough sleep that's all. (Mulder closes the trunk and walks over to her.)
MULDER: That makes two of us. (He walks into the hotel room just as Scully walks out.)
SCULLY: Did we get everything?
MULDER: I think. (Reyes looks at Scully.)
REYES: Mulder seems to be doing better.
SCULLY: Yeah he is. But he's still queasy. But he's also good at hiding pain and illness too. Unless it's absolutely unbearable or he wants the attention. (Mulder comes out, closing the door.)
MULDER: I double-checked and didn't see anything left. But this. (Holds up her cell phone.)
SCULLY: Thanks honey. (Takes the phone.)
MULDER: (Leans into her.) My pleasure. (Looks at Reyes.) So is the Dogman ready?
REYES: Yeah. Come on in. (Mulder and Scully follow Reyes into her room. Doggett is sitting on the edge of the bed staring at them. Mulder notices and starts growling.)
-47-
DOGGETT: Nice to see you're doing better Agent Mulder.
SCULLY: (Looks at Reyes.) I thought you said you knocked him out?
REYES: That was over four hours ago.
MULDER: I guess I'll have to now.
SCULLY: Mulder, no. (Mulder looks at her. He sees the worry in her eyes. He gets close to her.)
DOGGETT: She's going to be the death of you, Mulder. (Mulder glares at him.) Don't stare at me like that. I know she's pregnant. (Mulder looks at Reyes.)
REYES: Don't look at me. I didn't tell him. He already knew.
MULDER: (Walks over to Doggett.) That's it!
SCULLY: Mulder! (Mulder gets in Doggett's face.)
MULDER: I've about had it with you!
DOGGETT: Had it with me? You're the one that needs to die. Not me!
MULDER: That's a matter of one's opinion. (Mulder grabs his arm. Doggett passes out. Mulder backs away, as Reyes rushes over to Doggett.)
REYES: What did you do?
MULDER: I put him to sleep. (Looks at Scully. She's staring at him.) Don't worry he'll be awake by the time we get him to D.C. (Scully walks away from him.)

WASHINGTON D.C.
NEUROLOGY INSTITUTE
TWO DAYS LATER 2 P.M.
(Scully and Reyes are in the monitor room with a doctor. The monitors have Doggett on the screens. He's sitting on his bed, staring at the floor.)
DOCTOR: He's been sitting there ever since you brought him. We've done spinal tests. And we came up with some high-pressure readings on his spinal fluid. Which can cause mood swings, headaches, behavioral problems. I can go on and on.
SCULLY: Any signs of abnormalities in his blood?
DOCTOR: Funny you should ask that. We found this in his blood stream. (Hands her a paper.) It's all on the sheet. (Scully looks at it.) We wanted to ask you if you knew anything about it.
SCULLY: Yes I do. I'm very familiar with it. It's in my husband's blood. But he's doing fine.
REYES: Is there anything that can be done about the pressure in his spinal cord?
DOCTOR: Yes. We've already started injecting him with medication. It should regulate the pressure. We're going to check it again in three days.
REYES: How long will he have to be here?
DOCTOR: As long as it takes. We usually can stabilize the pressure in less then a week. Two weeks tops. But it all depends on the patient.
SCULLY: I appreciate all you're doing doctor. We must go. But please keep us updated on his condition.
DOCTOR: I most certainly will.
SCULLY: (Looks at Reyes) Come on Agent Reyes
REYES: You go on. I'm going to stay.
SCULLY: No, there's nothing you can do right now. So come on. (They both leave the room the doctor looks back at the monitors and smiles.)
3170 WEST 53RD STREET
ANNAPOLIS, MD 5 P.M.
(Scully is at her apartment door. She unlocks it and opens the door. Mulder is standing there. She jumps.)
SCULLY: Mulder! You about gave me a heart attack!
MULDER: (Letting her in.) I usually have that effect on people.
SCULLY: (Looks back at him.) Where are you going?
MULDER: No where. I was going to let you in.
SCULLY: How did you know I was—(Stops what she's saying as he's staring at her.) Never mind. (Walks over to the kitchen.)
MULDER: What? (Follows her to the kitchen. She gets out a can of soda.)
-50-
SCULLY: (Looks at him, closing the refrigerator door.) Nothing. (He gets close to her.)
MULDER: What is it, you seem so uptight.
SCULLY: (Walks away from him.) Stop Mulder. (Walks into the living room and sits down on the recliner. Mulder walks into the room and stares at her.
MULDER: Are you mad at me or something?
SCULLY: No. I'm just tired. (Mulder sits on the sofa, staring at her. She looks over at him.) Don't look at me like that. It's nothing-personal honey. (She stands and walks over to him and sits next to him.) I'm just stressed. Reyes is driving me to the limits I guess.
MULDER: It's all right. I forgive you. (She leans into him. He puts his right arm around her. She cuddles up under his chin.) So how is Doggett?
SCULLY: He's acting like you did when we had you in that enclosed room. But he's more distant then you were.
MULDER: I see.
SCULLY: (Rubs his chest.) Why do we have to be in the middle of these things? It's causing me to ignore you, snap at you.
MULDER: We opened our mouths. But when Doggett gets better, we're out of here. Okay? (She doesn't answer. He looks at her she's asleep.)
-51-
4 HOURS LATER
(Mulder is using the armrest as a pillow. Scully is using him as a pillow. There's a knock at the door, waking Mulder up. He growls a little and looks at Scully. There's another knock. Mulder makes his way out of Scully's hold and stands up from the side of the sofa. He walks over to the door and opens it. Reyes is standing there.)
MULDER: Yes?
REYES: Can I talk to Scully?
MULDER: No. She's asleep.
REYES: It's about John. He's in a coma. (Mulder walks away and over to Scully. He sits at the edge of the sofa.)
MULDER: Honey. (Scully gets on her back and looks at him. She stretches.)
SCULLY: (Notices Reyes.) Oh no, you.
REYES: Nice to see you to. (Scully sits up, sitting close to Mulder.)
SCULLY: I'm sorry. I get cranky when I haven't had enough sleep.
REYES: Is Mulder keeping you up?
SCULLY: (Takes his arm and rests her head on it.) No, it has nothing to do with him.
REYES: John is in a coma.
-52-
SCULLY: (Looks at her, becoming more alert.) What?!
MULDER: She said Doggett was in a coma. (Scully looks at him.)
REYES: (Starts to walk out.) He goes and makes jokes about it.
SCULLY: (Let's go of Mulder's arm and stands up.) Agent Reyes wait. When did this happen?
REYES: I went over an hour ago to see how he was. And he wasn't in that monitoring room. So they tell me he's in critical car because he passed out and wasn't breathing. So now they have him on a respirator. What could be doing this to him?
SCULLY: Did you ask what kind of medication they were giving him?
REYES: No why?
SCULLY: That may have a lot to do with it being he's alien now. (Walks over to the kitchen grabbing her car keys. She looks over at Mulder.) Are you coming? (Mulder stands up and stretches.)
MULDER: Why not. I got nothing to do anyway.
NEUROLOGY INSTITUTE
(Scully and Reyes are in the doctor's office. The doctor is sitting behind his desk.)
-53-
SCULLY: (Looking at the doctor.) What kind of medication have you been giving Agent Doggett?
DOCTOR: I've been giving him sedatives at 100mg. And a neuralgic IV into his blood stream to get the pressure down on his spinal fluid.
SCULLY: How much of that have you been giving him?
DOCTOR: If you're referring that the medication I've been giving him is causing him to be in this coma, you're very wrong.
SCULLY: How much have you been giving him?
DOCTOR: One hundred milligrams every four hours.
SCULLY: (Stares at the floor.) That's way too much.
DOCTOR: No it isn't. I had given my patients that over fifteen years and never had adverse effects.
SCULLY: (Looks at the doctor.) It is with Agent Doggett! Trust me. Have you quite given it to him since he went into the coma?
DOCTOR: For now yes.
SCULLY: Well do me a favor and don't ever give it to him again. Start putting vitamin insulin in his IV. And he should come out of his coma within twenty-four hours.
DOCTOR: Who's the doctor here you or me? (In the critical care unit, Mulder enters Doggett's room. Inside the room, Doggett is connected to respirators. Mulder walks over to his bedside and looks at him.)
-54-
MULDER: She needs you as much as Scully needs me. I know we had our differences. But I'm not cruel enough for her to be with out you. (Mulder lays his right hand on Doggett's chest and closes his eyes. In the doctor's office, Scully looks at the doctor.)
SCULLY: All I'm asking is for you to give it a try. (The doctor sighs and looks at his desk.)
REYES: I don't want to lose him, doctor Eastman. He's been too much more then a friend to me. (The doctor looks at her.)
DOCTOR: Okay. I'll do it. But only for twenty four hours. (In Doggett's room, Mulder removes his hand from Doggett's chest. Doggett suddenly wakes up and looks at Mulder.)
DOGGETT: (Weak.) What are you doing here?
MULDER: Saving your life. (A nurse walks into the room and sees Mulder.)
NURSE: Sir, you're not supposed to be here.
MULDER: (Looks at the nurse.) He's awake. I think you can take that respirator off of him now. (Walks out of the room. In the doctor's office, Scully and Reyes stand up. There's a page over the intercom system.)
INTERCOM: Doctor Eastman, please come to the critical care unit. Doctor Eastman to the critical care unit.
DOCTOR: Excuse me. (Starts to walk out of his office. Reyes stops him.)
-55-
REYES: Would that be Agent Doggett?
DOCTOR: I don't know. (Walks away. Reyes follows him.)
SCULLY: (Tries to stop her.) Agent Reyes. (She already walks through the double doors to hallway. Scully stands there and looks over to her left. She sees Mulder sitting into the waiting room staring at her. He's leaning on his knees. She walks over to him. He sits up against the chair.)
MULDER: What's going on?
SCULLY: There was a page for the doctor to go to the critical care unit. And Reyes thinks it could be Doggett.
MULDER: Shouldn't we go back there with her?
SCULLY: They won't allow it. They'll probably send her back. (In Doggett's room, the nurse is removing the respirator from Doggett. The doctor is checking his pulse.)
DOCTOR: Well Agent Doggett. You're one lucky man. Since you snapped out of your coma, we'll have to double your spinal pressure again. We'll do that tomorrow.
DOGGETT: I was in a coma?
DOCTOR: Yeah but not very long. It's been about a little over twenty-four hours. You had no brain waves and you weren't breathing. You were almost clinically dead.
DOGGETT: What's happening to me?
-56-
DOCTOR: You're spinal pressure was up and you have something in your blood stream that you're body is having a hard time fighting off. But we're going to double check that and see where you stand since you were brought in. (Reyes walks into the room.)
REYES: John! (Walks over to his bedside.)
DOGGETT: (Weak.) Monica. (She gently hugs him.)
REYES: Don't scare me like that ever again.
DOGGETT: It wasn't on purpose. Believe me.
REYES: (Looks at the doctor.) Does this mean he'll go into a regular room?
DOCTOR: Yes it does. (Scully and Mulder walk in. Mulder stays near the door. Scully notices Doggett being up.)
SCULLY: (Walks over to Reyes, looking at Doggett.) You're up.
DOGGETT: Agent Scully. This is a surprise. (Mulder stares over at him.)
SCULL: You seem perkier then you did when we brought you in.
DOGGETT: Why was I even brought in here?
SCULLY: That's a long story Agent Doggett. We'll wait to your stronger to tell it.
DOGGETT: Where's Mulder?
-57-
SCULLY: (Looks over at Mulder. He's still standing there.) He's at the doorway.
DOGGETT: (Looks toward the door and then looks at Reyes.) So did you miss me?
SCULLY: That's an understatement. She's like me concerning Mulder. (Reyes laughs.) Well we must get going. We still have an unfinished case that need to be done. (Scully walks over to Mulder.)
REYES: (Looks over at them.) Thanks Dana.
SCULLY: You're welcome. (Looks at Mulder.) Let's go. (Mulder follows her out.) That was a quick recovery. And to be back to normal yet. (They both reach the elevator. She looks at him.) What do you think? Or do you even care?
MULDER: What am I supposed to think? He's alien, it don't surprise me how he recovered so quick. (The elevator doors open. They both walk in. In the first floor lobby, the elevator doors open. Mulder and Scully start to walk out. Mulder looses his balance a little and leans on the wall near him. Scully notices.)
SCULLY: What's wrong?
MULDER: (Slightly disoriented.) I just lost my balance for a second.
SCULLY: Are you sure you're all right?
MULDER: (Looks at her, his vision becomes blurred for a second and returns too normal.) I'm fine. (She stares at him as they walk out of the hospital.)
-58-
FBI HEADQUARTERS
12:30 P.M.
(Mulder and Scully are sitting in Skinner office in front of his desk.)
SKINNER: I'm sorry you two want to leave again. I don't want to lose my best agents you know that.
MULDER: I'm flattered sir. But it's getting to be a lot of pressure lately to be here. And it seems we've created a lot more enemies. Especially with a particular individual that is back and higher ranked.
SKINNER: Director Follumer.
MULDER: You're good.
SCULLY: We do plan to finish the case you assigned me. And when that's done, we'll leave.
SKINNER: Fair enough. Well if that's all agents. I must get back to my paper work. (Mulder and Scully start to leave the office. As they're heading out the door, Mulder loses his balance again. He holds on to the side of the door. Scully looks back at him. She rushes to his side.)
SCULLY: Mulder! What's going on? (Skinner notices and walks over to them.)
SKINNER: What's going on?
MULDER: I'm fine sir. I'm just a little light headed.
SCULLY: Why, what have you done?
-59-
MULDER: Good question.
SKINNER: Why don't take him home to rest. You all can start on that case tomorrow.
SCULLY: Thank you sir. Let's go Mulder. (They walk away. Skinner stands there.)
3170 WEST 53RD STREET
ANNAPOLIS MD 2:30 P.M.
(Scully unlocks the door to her apartment Mulder walks on in followed by Scully. She closes the door behind her and locks it as he lies across the couch, staring up at the ceiling.)
SCULLY: (Walks over to him and sit at the edge of the couch, putting her hand on his chest.) Are you sure you're okay? (Mulder looks at her and takes the hand that's on his chest.) What have you done? I can see it in your eyes that you're weaker then usual. I figured by now you would be at one hundred percent in your strength now. (She stares at him with the expression of saying 'oh no you didn't.) Mulder!
MULDER: (Looks at the ceiling.) What?
SCULLY: Tell me you didn't.
MULDER: Okay, I didn't.
SCULLY: I thought his recovery was too good to be true. Why did you do it? You seem to hate him so much.
MULDER: (Sits up and leans at the corner of the couch.) I did it for Agent Reyes if you must know.
-60-
SCULLY: Why for her?
MULDER: Because in some ways she reminds me of you. She can't any more live without him as you can without me. (Scully stares at him.)
SCULLY: Who ever said I couldn't live without you?
MULDER: (Looks at the floor.) My mistake then. (She sits beside him and hugs him, and lays her head on his chest.)
SCULLY: It was a joke, Mulder. (Mulder passes out, lying on top of her. She looks up, thinking he's joking.) What are you doing Mulder? (No response.) Mulder? (She gets out from under. He falls over to his side.) Mulder! (She pushes him to sit up. She stands up and grabs his legs and lays him out across the couch. She checks his pulse at his neck.) Talk to me honey. (She grabs the phone next to the sofa and dials.)
TWO HOURS LATER
(Scully is sitting on the floor, next to the couching with her head down on Mulder's right arm. There's a knock at the door. She looks back at the door and stands up. She walks over to the door and peeks through the eyehole. She opens the door.)
SCULLY: Jeremiah thanks for coming. (Jeremiah walks in, carrying a red box. Scully closes the door and looks at him.)
JEREMIAH: (Walks over to where Mulder is laying. Sits his box on the coffee table.) What happened? What did he do? (Opens his red box. Scully walks over to him.)
SCULLY: He healed someone. And at work he kept losing his balance.
-61-
JEREMIAH: (Checking under Mulder's eyelids.) Who was it he healed?
SCULLY: Agent Doggett. (Jeremiah looks at her.)
JEREMIAH: What was he trying to do commit suicide?
SCULLY: What are you talking about?
JEREMIAH: He should've never tried healing him. Alien cannot heal alien. Especially when Mulder is just recovering from being abducted from the bounty hunter. He doesn't have the strength to start with.
SCULLY: You me Mulder would recover in a month.
JEREMIAH: And it hasn't been a month. It's been two weeks. (He sits down on the coffee table and reaches into his red box and takes out a syringe. He jabs it into Mulder's fore arm and withdrawals blood.)
SCULLY: What are you doing? (He pulls the needle out of his arm and takes out a sample bottle and injects the bottle with Mulder's blood.)
JEREMIAH: I'm taking a sample of his blood. I want to see something. (He puts the syringe in his box and pulls a bottle of solution and squirts into Mulder's blood sample.) If this turn blue we're in heap of trouble.
SCULLY: What do you mean?
JEREMIAH: If this result turns blue concerning Mulder's blood. That agent has poisoned him. Just by touching him, being Mulder is part alien, can contaminate Mulder's bloodstream and kill him.
-62-
(Jeremiah shakes the bottle. He looks at it, the contents turned yellow.)
JEREMIAH: Yellow.
SCULLY: What's that mean?
JEREMIAH: He got re-poisoned again. And all that will cause is him to be weaker then before. And knowing Agent Mulder he won't let that stop him. (Takes out another syringe with something already in it.) I'm going to give him an antibiotic. It'll help his body get rid of the poison.
SCULLY: So anytime Doggett is touched, or he touches someone, they're going to become poisoned?
JEREMIAH: No. Agent Doggett has the ability to release poison. Only reason Agent Mulder got it was due to him healing him. (Mulder wakes up and notices the syringe in Jeremiah's hand. He growl's and jumps off the couch and crouches in the corner of the living room. Scully walks around the sofa and looks at Mulder. He glares up at her.)
SCULLY: Jeremiah. What's wrong with him?
JEREMIAH: It's the poison in him. It's taken over his alien nature.
SCULLY: Mulder, you need to settle down. We're here to help you. (Mulder hisses and growls at her.) Mulder! Stop it.
JEREMIAH: Talking to him like that isn't going to help. He doesn't have the physical strength humanly to control himself. Only thing is going to help him right now is this antibiotic.
-63-
SCULLY: And how do you propose you to do that without him tearing you up? (Jeremiah gets near Mulder.)
JEREMIAH: (Staring at Mulder.) Carefully. Very carefully. (Mulder glares up at him, growling. Jeremiah gets a foot from him, Mulder shows his teeth. He leaps on to Jeremiah and knocks him to his back. He loses the syringe.) Get the syringe! Inject him with it! (Mulder's sharp nails extract from his hand. He tries stabbing Jeremiah with them. Scully grabs the syringe and gets near the two struggling. She injects the syringe into Mulder's forearm and backs away. Mulder jumps up and against the corner of the wall again, staring at her. Jeremiah quickly stands and looks at him. Mulder collapses to the floor. Scully rushes to his side.)
SCULLY: (Rolls him on his back.) What's happened to him?
JEREMIAH: It's the antibiotic kicking in. He'll be fine by tomorrow morning. But he shouldn't do anything for the next forty-eight hours so he can get his strength back up. (He picks Mulder up and lays him back on the couch. Scully stands up and looks at Jeremiah. He reaches in his red box and takes out two more syringes filled with medication.)
SCULLY: What are you doing?
JEREMIAH: Relax. This is for you to give to him later. This will speed his recovery and help him retain his strength. Give one to him tomorrow morning. And the second one tomorrow night. (Scully walks over to him and takes the syringes. He closes his box and picks it up. He looks at her.) I better be going. Keep an eye on. Let him rest it out. If wakes up in a few hours. Just keep him calm. Don't let him move around much. (Walks to the door and opens it.) My advice to you is that you two stay inside the next two days. Don't answer the door for no one till he gets strong enough. (Walks on out the door, closing it behind him.)
-64-
7:30 P.M.
(Scully is sitting on her recliner watching TV, covered up in a blanket. Mulder is still lying on the sofa. She looks over at him. She stands up and walks over to him. She rungs her fingers through his hair. That wakes him up. He looks at her with uncertainty. She kneels down with her hand behind his neck.)
SCULLY: It's okay. (He keeps staring at her.) We need to stop this, honey. It's killing you. (Mulder lays his head down on the armrest. Scully moves her hand from the back of his neck.) Is that all you're going to do is stare at me? (She sits at the edge of the sofa and puts her hand on his side. He glares at her slightly growling.) Mulder, what's wrong? (She gently rubs his side, he growls more.) Stop. (He lays there, closing his eyes in frustration.) I hope you snap out of this. I'll kill Doggett myself. (There's a knock at the door. Scully looks over at the door and stands up. Mulder opens his eyes and sits up, watching her. She peeks through the eye hole. It's Reyes. Scully puts her head into the door.) Not now. (Opens the door half way.) Agent Reyes. What are you doing here?
REYES: I just came by to tell you that John is going home tomorrow afternoon.
SCULLY: Good
REYES: So where's Mulder?
SCULLY: He's asleep. He's been so exhausted.
REYES: Why is he so exhausted? Are you keeping him up nights? (Mulder slowly walks up behind Scully, putting his arms around her waist. Scully jumps.)
-65-
MULDER: (Little weak.) Who's keeping who up nights?
SCULLY: (Leans into him.) Mulder you scared me.
MULDER: (Puts his chin on her shoulder.) Sorry.
SCULLY: I thought you were asleep.
MULDER: No. You woke me up, pestering me remember?
REYES: He looks exhausted. (Looks at Scully.) And you're pestering him yet.
SCULLY: Thanks for giving me the news about Agent Doggett.
MULDER: (Interrupting. Looks at Reyes.) How is Doggett?
REYES: He's going home tomorrow. They don't want him doing too much for the next few days. But he's doing a lot better.
MULDER: Good.
SCULLY: We'll talk to you later Agent Reyes. (Scully closes the door in her face. Reyes just stands there.)
REYES: (Talks to herself.) Okay? (Inside Scully's apartment, Scully turns to face Mulder.)
MULDER: That wasn't very nice.
SCULLY: I see you're feeling better. What's was with the growling at me earlier?
-66-
MULDER: I told you. You were pestering me. And I was trying to sleep. (Draws her close to him.) You just can't leave me alone can you?
SCULLY: I guess not. (Lays her head on his chest.) So what made you get up?
MULDER: I wanted to pest you back.
SCULLY: (Looks at him.) So you come over and hold me. (He smiles at her.)
48 HOURS
FALLS CHURCH VIRGINIA
(Doggett is sitting on his sofa staring at the coffee table. There's a knock at the door that snaps him out of his stare. He looks toward the door. He stands up and walks up to it, opening it.)
REYES: Hi John. Can I come in?
DOGGETT: Monica, of course you can. (Reyes starts to walk in. Suddenly she's grabbed and thrown into a lamp table. Knocking the table over and breaking the lamp. Doggett stands there in shock. The bounty hunter shows up beside him. Doggett rushes to Reyes side. She's unconscious. He looks up at the bounty hunter, glaring at him.) What did you do that for?!
BH: She's going to be a hindrance to you. I want you to kill her!
DOGGETT: (Stands up and gets in his face.) I'm not killing my partner!
-67-
BH: You're mine, you'll do as you're told!
DOGGETT: How about if I kill you! (Doggett jumps up and knocks the bounty hunter to the floor. They both struggle back and forth. Doggett in his anger growls and suddenly realizes what he just did. He quickly stands up.) What have you done to me?
BH: (Looks up at him.) You're alien now.
DOGGETT: No. I'm human. You're the alien!
BH: (Stands up.) I made you into alien. You have to serve me!
DOGGETT: Get out of here! (The bounty hunter disappears. Doggett kneels down by Reyes.) Monica please get up. (She doesn't respond.) Monica, please.
3170 WEST 53RD STREET
8:45 P.M.
(Scully and Mulder are curled up in a blanket together in front of the fireplace.)
SCULLY: What are we going to do after we quite the FBI?
MULDER: I could go back to teaching. While you raise the little one.
SCULLY: (Staring at the fire.) True.
MULDER: I think we could use another blanket. I'll be right back.
-68-
SCULLY: Get my pillow too. (Mulder stands up and walks to the bedroom. There's a knock at the door. Scully looks over at a clock. She stands up and walks over to the door. She peeks through the eye hole. It's Doggett. Scully gets a fearful expression to her face. She opens the door about four inches, looking out at him. He's carrying Reyes in his arms.)
DOGGETT: Help me.
SCULLY: (Scared expression. Opens the door wide.) What have you done Agent Doggett!?
DOGGETT: I didn't. But the bounty hunter came into my house just as Monica did. I don't know what's wrong with her. He's done something to her! (Scully looks behind her for Mulder and back at Doggett. She opens the door. He walks in, carrying Reyes.)
SCULLY: Put her on the sofa. (In the bedroom, Mulder senses who's in the apartment. He walks out of the bedroom, growling. Doggett lays Reyes on the sofa. Mulder walks into the living room and notices him. He notices Reyes lying on the sofa. Mulder growls more aggressively and charges at Doggett, knocking him to the floor.)
SCULLY: (Yells.) Mulder, don't! (Mulder stops his attack as he has Doggett pinned to the floor.)
DOGGETT: No, it's all right. (Looks at Mulder.) Go ahead, Mulder. Kill me. Put me out of my misery. I don't want to be alien. The bounty hunter did something to Monica. I can't go on. (Mulder stands up and gets near Scully.)
-69-
SCULLY: Agent Doggett, only thing that's wrong with Agent Reyes is that she's been knocked out. She'll be fine. You need to rest yourself Agent Doggett. You got no business running around like this.
DOGGETT: I couldn't help it that the bounty hunter broke into my house.
MULDER: So you come here so he can hurt my wife too.
DOGGETT: No. I didn't know where else to go. I can't think straight anymore. I can't deal with being something I'm actually not.
MULDER: How do you think I feel? I don't like it, but I'm learning to use it against the bounty hunter and my enemies. The alien part of you can be significant. Especially in protecting those you love. (Doggett looks at Reyes.)
DOGGETT: All the good I did. I screw up my first marriage. Now I can't even date right. (Looks at Mulder.) How do you operate in it? (Mulder has a vision of what happened to Reyes. He sees the bounty hunter near Doggett but his face blends with the bounty hunter.) Go home Agent Doggett. (Scully looks at Mulder.)
DOGGETT: Why, what's wrong?
MULDER: Just go.
DOGGETT: What about Monica?
-70-
MULDER: Leave her.
DOGGETT: What is it?
MULDER: Go now. (Doggett stares at him and starts heading toward the door. He suddenly disappears. Mulder looks around. Suddenly Scully is grabbed from behind.)
SCULLY: Mulder! (He looks at her. She gets thrown into the mantle part of the fireplace, hitting her head on the edge of it and falls to the floor. Mulder growls looking around for Doggett.)
MULDER: Doggett! If I find you, you're dead!
DOGGETT: (Voice is heard echoing through the apartment.) That is 'if' you find me! (The door to the apartment opens and closes on it's own. Mulder glares at it and kneels down by Scully. He notices the gash on the side of her head. He gently lifts her up and moves her in front of the fireplace. He sits on the floor, grabbing the blanket they were wrapped up in and covers Scully and himself in it. He holds her head up against his chest. Keeping her close, as he gently puts his chin on top of her head, he closes his eyes.)
ELEVEN HOURS LATER
(Reyes wakes up and looks around, sitting up. She notices Mulder and Scully on the floor in front of the fireplace. She rubs the side of her head where the cut is and looks at her hand. There's a little blood.)
-71-
REYES: How did I get here? (She stands up and walks over to where Mulder and Scully are laying. She notices the side of Scully's head. She kneels down. Mulder starts growling, but his eyes are still closed.) What have you done to her, Mulder? (Mulder opens his eyes and glares at her.) Let her go Mulder. (Mulder hisses at her and continues to growl. Scully wakes up from his growling.)
SCULLY: (Weak and in pain.) Mulder, what are you doing? (Mulder stops growling and lets go of Scully but remains very close to her. She slowly sits up, holding her head. She notices Reyes staring at her.) It's all coming back to me now.
REYES: What happened Dana? What has Mulder done to us?
SCULLY: Monica it wasn't Mulder! Doggett did this to the both of us. Surprisingly he brought you here last night. Then disappeared and through me into this mantle.
REYES: That should've sent you to the hospital.
SCULLY: I know. But someone (Looks at Mulder.) did something they shouldn't have. (Scully leans into Mulder, laying her head on his chest. He puts his arm around her waist.)
REYES: How do you know that Mulder hasn't done this to you and me. And he's able to morph into John, to put all the blame on him. (Scully glares at her.)
SCULLY: (Puts her hand on his chest.) Mulder can't change his appearance that way.
REYES: Yeah sure. That's what he want's you to believe.
-72-
SCULLY: (Looks at Reyes.) Don't blame Mulder. He's been with me way before Doggett ever brought you over. And Mulder was standing beside me when Doggett turned invisible and threw me against that mantle. (Reyes stands up. Mulder growls slightly.)
REYES: Oh shut up traitor. (Scully's phone rings. The answer machine picks it up.)
SCULLY: (Glares up at her.) What's with you?
REYES: The both of you hate John so much. And when he becomes like Mulder alien wise, John is still the bad guy.
SCULLY: Doggett is one hundred percent alien, Agent Reyes! Mulder is only ninety.
REYES: Close enough wouldn't you say?
SCULLY: I think you better go.
REYES: I will. (Reaches in her jacket.) But first—(She pulls out her gun and points it at Mulder.) I must take care of a problem. (Scully stares at her in shock. Mulder growls at her.)
SCULLY: What do you think you're doing?!
REYES: Taking care of what is trying to kill us! (Mulder stares at the gun. It suddenly gets hot in Reyes hands. She drops it and glares at Mulder.) Have it your way. John will take care of you! (Mulder growls at her, keeping Scully close.)
-73-
SCULLY: Get out of here Agent Reyes! (Reyes stares at them and smiles at Mulder. Mulder glares at her as she smiles sinisterly at him. She walks to the door and out. Mulder looks at the floor.) What the heck was her problem?
MULDER: That wasn't the Reyes we know. That was the bounty hunter.
SCULLY: (Looks at him in the face.) What?
MULDER: Check your answering machine. (Scully stares at him.) Go on. (Scully stands up and walks over to the answering machine. Mulder stands up and walks over to the sofa and sits back down. Scully presses play on her answering machine.)
MACHINE: You have one message. "Dana it's me Monica. I wanted to tell you John is coming home tomorrow evening. The hospital says he's recovering miraculously but he just needs time to recuperate due to the spinal tap they did to him. I'll call you tomorrow before I pick up. Thanks for your guys help. I appreciate it. Goodbye. (Scully looks over at Mulder.)
MULDER: Told you.
SCULLY: So I take it that wasn't Agent Doggett in here earlier either then right?
MULDER: They don't call you a FBI agent for nothing do they?
SCULLY: Since when could the bounty hunter show up as two people?
-74-
MULDER: Since he cloned himself. (Scully stares at him.) He's doing this because you're pregnant. He wants our child!
SCULLY: What are we going to do?
MULDER: We need to get out of here. Till the baby is born and at least a year old.
SCULLY: Where will we go, Mulder?
MULDER: I don't know. But we must not tell anyone. We get our paychecks tomorrow. We'll cash them and fly out of here. With no word to nobody. Okay? (Scully sits beside him.)
SCULLY: Fly out of here how?
MULDER: I'll use my craft to do it. Going through commercial airlines, they'll be able to find us. (Scully stares at him.)
FBI HEADQUARTERS / NEXT DAY
12 P.M.
(Mulder and Scully are in Skinner's office. He hands them their paychecks.)
SKINNER: Are you sure you two are okay?
MULDER: We're fine sir. Thank you. (Looks at Scully.) Come on. (They both start to walk out of the office. Follumer walks in. They both stare at him.)
FOLLUMER: Agent's Mulder and Scully. What a pleasant surprise.
-75-
MULDER: I wish I could say the same thing about you. (They both walk out of the office. Follumer looks at Skinner.)
FOLLUMER: What was that about?
SKINNER: I'm not sure. But I think they're leaving us without a word to anybody.
FOLLUMER: If they do they won't be able to come here for a job.
SKINNER: I don't think they plan to. (Follumer stares at him and walks out of the office. In Follumer's office, he's just walking in. He stops in his tracks as the scene shows someone standing there. They're feet only are revealed.)
FOLLUMER: (Stares at the individual.) They're leaving the FBI.
BH: (His face is revealed.) I know. Our problems are over now.
FOLLUMER: Are they? You know she's pregnant.
BH: Yeah I know. And once the baby is born. It's mine.
FOLLUMER: Yeah? (Walks over to his desk and sits down.) I'll believe that when I see it. It's Mulder's child. If you can't stop Mulder, there's no getting his kid! (The bounty hunter glares at him.)
THE END?
