Chapter 1: Opening Up

Being so preoccupied with sharing in the joy of their newfound relationship status with the group, Monica and Chandler had little time to acknowledge the elephant, or more specific, tree in the room.

As it became later in the evening, the group began to dissipate as they acknowledged the fact that some of them had actual jobs they would need to be at tomorrow, leaving the newly engaged couple alone.

Monica was in the kitchen cleaning up the small amount of dishes that had been left behind in the excitement, as nothing could ever be too clean in her eyes. Chandler sought this opportunity to address the issue they had been avoiding all evening.

"Mon, are you sure this is what you want? I know how much you care about Richard, he has more to give you than I ever will." He stared, waiting for her response, slightly wincing as he noticed the tears threatening to spill out of his fiance's eyes.

"Chandler, whatever feelings I have for Richard don't matter to me, because you are the only man that will ever make me feel the way I feel right now. I love you Chandler, can't you see that?" At this point, tears had escaped, trailing down her face as she approached him. It was only a matter of seconds before the dam broke, bringing Monica into Chandler's arms, her face against his chest.

"Shh… it's alright honey…" Chandler didn't know what to say, so he settled for whispering sweet praises in her ear as he stroked her back to calm her down.

"Mon, I love you, but it will always hurt knowing what happened between you and Richard."

Once the tears stopped flowing rapidly, Monica pulled her face away from his chest to look up at him.

"You're the one I said yes to, remember, so whatever Richard tries won't work, because you and I will always be strong." At Monica's declaration, Chandler's nerves melted away, turning into passion and admiration for his soon-to-be wife.

He smiled, bringing Monica's face closer to his to meet in a kiss.

A little while later, the couple found themselves laying on the couch, enjoying being with each other.

"Chandler?" Monica spoke up, bringing them out of the silence.

"Yeah Mon?"

"Were you being serious when you were saying all that stuff about Paris for our honeymoon?" Remembering what he had said earlier as she freaked out about Rachel and Ross 'stealing her thunder'.

"If that's where you really want to go, but we don't have to go to Paris Mon. Anywhere that we go won't matter as much as knowing that you'll be my wife." Chandler smiled, kissing the top of her head.

Monica was rendered speechless, happy tears filling her eyes at the thought of this incredible man being her husband.

"You are so sweet. Can we go to the beach?" Chandler instantly perked up at the thought of Monica in a bikini, to which Monica rolled her eyes, knowing exactly what he was thinking of.

"Anywhere you want babe.". They kissed once more before Chandler gently nudged Monica off of him, getting up and walking over to their stereo, where he pushed a few buttons on it before walking back over to his fiance, who gasped as she realized what song he had picked. Their favorite song to dance to, Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton, filled the room as they began to sway together, both feeling overjoyed at the life that awaited them.
