Gargoyles Paradox – Teaser
By Celgress
Castle Wyvern October 994 C.E., night
"Believe me, I know exactly how you feel. But you can't trust him." Future Demona told her deeply conflicted past self while grabbing the other gargoyle's arm. "He's weak. He cares more for the humans than he does for own clan. The greatest favor you can do him, do us, is to put him out of our misery, forever. Help me kill him before he recovers. You must know I'm right." Past Demona struggled to free herself. Future Demona continued, "Can't you see I am what you'll become? I am your future."
"I'll never be like you. I'd rather die." Past Demona said. Her eyes turned red as she pulled free.
"I do not wish to hurt you, but I shall." Future Demona threatened.
"I don't wish to be you!" Past Demona said.
Past Demona jumped at her future self. She was fast but Future Demona was far more skilled a warrior honing her skills over centuries of often vicious battles. Future Demona sidestepped the attack. Future Demona then grabbed Past Demona's tail twirled her around then lifted her high into the air slamming Past Demona down onto cold hard stones.
"Pitiful, I forgot how weak and foolish I once was." Future Demona said shaking her head in disgust. "If I must beat this lesson into you, so be it." Future Demona threatened her fallen past self making a fist. "It's for your own good."
Goliath leaped up blocking Future Demona's blow. "No," He growled.
Goliath's eyes flashed white. In his rage, he backhanded Future Demona. Future Demona smashed against a nearby battlement. She was knocked unconscious. Future Demona dropped her version of the Phoenix Gate, it rolled to where Goliath stood.
Goliath picked up the Future Phoenix while Past Demona picked up the Past Phoenix, which she had dropped when attacked by her counterpart. The pair came closer to each other. Their gazes met. Each wanted to say so much.
"Are you injured?" Goliath asked caping his wings.
"You, the others, all gone." Past Demona said she went to embrace the stone statute of Past Goliath. "What am I to do?" She asked weeping.
"Do nothing," Goliath said.
"Nothing," Past Demona said in surprise, that couldn't be right, could it? She released her frozen lover from her tender embrace and looked at his very much alive counterpart. An idea formed in her troubled mind, but could it work?
"Do not worry. Do not wait nor look for this catastrophe. Live in the moment. Attend the petty jealousies and anger that prey upon your heart. Fortify yourself with love and trust. If you do as I say, you need not fear this future." Goliath said. "But most of all fulfill the vows of love you make, for they can surely save you."
Past Demona wiped the tears from her eyes. "I'm sorry, my love. I can't. I have to do something. I must try to change things." Past Demona said.
Without warning, she spoke a spell aloud in Latin praying it would work. Her skills were still basic. Future Demona glowed in green light. Her eyes opened then closed again.
"What did you do?" Goliath asked Past Demona grabbing her shoulder and spinning her around to face him.
"I cast a spell on her so she'll think she's me. Her memories are gone. She can take my place and complete the circle of time." Past Demona said.
"And what will you do?" Goliath asked already suspecting he knew the answer.
"I'll go with you. The past can't hold two of me." Past Demona said.
The Clock Tower present day, near dawn
"You shouldn't have let him go!" Elisa said to Hudson.
"We should go and rescue him!" Brooklyn insisted.
"I don't think that will be necessary," Hudson said.
"What is she doing here?" Brooklyn growled at Goliath and Demona when they landed near him.
"We'll discuss what has happened tomorrow night," Goliath said.
"But,-," Brooklyn tired to protest.
"Tomorrow night," Goliath growled his eyes flashing white. Hudson and Elisa exchanged concerned looks. Elisa then shrugged.
Every gargoyle took their place on the ledges, Demona standing as close to Goliath as she possibly could while Brooklyn glared at her. Sunrise quickly turned them all to stone. Elisa walked inside wondering what exactly was going on.
To Be Continued
So, should I continue this plot bunny, or not?
Author's Note One -
For a long time (literally years) I've searched for a way to have Demona and Goliath remain together without success until now. I think this is the best way to write my AU story while keeping the canon timeline intact so that McBeth and the Hunters remain present.
Author's Note Two -
The only thing different in this universe (thus far) than in the canon timeline is that Puck never placed the human transformation "curse" upon. I guess he was less angry when he left her in this universe.
Oh, and this is set in modern times (the Gargoyles awoke in 2014) rather than in the 1990s.
Author's Note Three -
Because gargoyles age at less than half the rate humans do Past Demona is only four to five years younger than Goliath in this story, not ten.
