Another day, another new story. Welcome everyone and thank you for checking this story out.
This idea was in the back of my mind for a time and I figured now would be a great time to finally write it.
Disclaimer: I do not own My Hero Academia or any of the characters.
It had been a long day, at least that's what Jiro was thinking.
While nothing had been out of the ordinary to the school's resident rocker, something was weighing on her mind and it was starting to influence her performance.
As Jiro tried to play her various instruments, she always seemed to be slightly off, not capturing the sound that she desired to create.
"I don't get it, my training is going well and people are appreciating my music more, so what could it be?" Jiro wondered.
Needless to say, even after knocking it out of the park at the school festival, Jiro was still self conscious about her skills.
A knock on her door interrupted her train of thought and as she opened it, it switched to the surprise of Midoriya at her door.
"Hey, Jiro, I was wondering if we could talk for a moment, alone?" Midoriya asked.
Jiro's eyes widened, surprised by Midoriya's request.
She contemplated it for a moment, knowing fully well that while surprising, Midoriya wouldn't have any ill intentions towards her.
"Sure." Jiro said.
Jiro welcomed him in, closing the door as he entered her room.
"So, what did you want to talk about?" Jiro asked.
Jiro had wanted to get straight to the point in order to avoid any awkward silence.
Unfortunately for her, that's exactly what she would get a moment later.
"I wanted to ask you for a favor." Midoriya said.
"I want you to help me to be more confident." Midoriya exclaimed.
Thus, the awkward silence began as a result of hearing Midoriya's request.
Jiro didn't answer right away, taken aback by the fact that of all people, he chose her to help him with this issue.
"I am a performer but I don't really stand out among the crowd when it comes to other things." Jiro thought.
Midoriya finally broke the silence as he saw Jiro's confused expression.
"I'm sorry to spring this on you so suddenly." Midoriya apologized.
Jiro didn't look him in the eye, focusing on her earphone jacks in order to keep her composure.
"Why me?" Jiro asked.
"What do you mean?" Midoriya asked.
"I mean that you could've picked almost anyone else in our class and they would've been a bigger help than I could ever be, Mina is basically the life of the party, Kirishima is pretty cool, Tsuyu speaks her mind and even Hagakure displays confidence." Jiro listed other possible choices.
"True, but, it wouldn't be the same." Midoriya said.
Jiro raised an eyebrow, confused by his statement.
"What I mean is, out of everyone in our class, we're the most similar." Midoriya told her.
Now Jiro was really confused.
"Is he crazy or something?" Jiro thought.
"Now you've lost me." Jiro said.
"I mean how you act, while it's true you have shown a lot of attitude, there are a lot of times where I've seen you become nervous, like me." Midoriya said.
"Is he insulting me or complimenting me?" Jiro wondered.
Jiro's earphone jacks stretched out towards Midoriya.
"Attitude?" Jiro questioned.
"I meant in a good way, I promise!" Midoriya shouted, as he raised his arms in defense.
Jiro retracted her earphone jacks, letting him continue on.
"You're clearly strong and you have a great personality to match it, but at the same time, you do get just as overwhelmed as I do." Midoriya told her.
Jiro blushed at his kind words, finally looking at him to see the serious look on his face.
"That time we were judging everyone's rooms and we saw all of your instruments, the licensing exam when we found out that only a fraction of us would pass and the time you were tricked into dressing up like a cheerleader." Midoriya listed off.
Jiro cringed as she remembered those experiences.
"Why did you have to bring those memories up?" Jiro asked, as she bowed her head in embarrassment.
"Just to illustrate my point, sorry." Midoriya said.
"Despite all of this, we both share one more thing in common, it's when we're doing what we love." Midoriya said.
"When I saw you performing on that stage, I felt something, something similar to how I feel about being a hero, it was like you were saving people with a smile on your face, almost as if you were saving everyone with your voice." Midoriya told her.
Jiro was conflicted by his comparison but was flattered nonetheless.
"When we're out there, doing the things that we love, we become more." Midoriya said.
Jiro smiled and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"You know, when you're not a stuttering mess, you have a way with words." Jiro said.
Midoriya smiled, nervously scratching the back of his head.
"So, aside from some similarities that you've pointed out, what can I possibly do for you?" Jiro asked.
"Well, we have similarities, but when it comes to interacting with everyone and being more assertive, you have that skill and I clearly don't." Midoriya told her.
"So you just thought it would be best if I could walk you through it, instead of someone over the top, like Mina or Kaminari?" Jiro asked.
"Basically." Midoriya said.
"I'll give him this, he does know how to get into someone's good graces." Jiro thought.
"Alright, I'll help you, on one condition." Jiro said.
"Sure, just name it." Midoriya said, enthusiastically.
"I wanted to go out to the record shop tomorrow, but they said I need to bring someone with me if I want to leave, in case anything happens." Jiro said.
Midoriya got the hint and nodded in approval.
"Sure, I would be happy to go." Midoriya said.
"Great, then we have a deal." Jiro said.
"Thank you so much!" Midoriya exclaimed.
Midoriya stepped forward, bringing her in for a hug out of excitement.
It was only after her embraced her that he realized what he had just done.
His eyes widened in horror at the revelation.
"I'm hugging you right now, aren't I?" Midoriya asked, in fear.
"Yeah." Jiro said, her tone showing no emotion at all.
As Midoriya was about to panic and apologize, a knock on the door alerted both of them.
"Jiro, it's me, is everything alright?" Yaoyorozu asked.
Jiro panicked, hoping that the door wouldn't open for her to see the two of them like this.
Jiro reacted quickly, breaking the hug, switching off the lights, pushing Midoriya onto her bed and finally leaping into the bed next to him.
As Jiro pulled the covers over herself and Midoriya, the door opened, revealing Yaoyorozu with a concerned look on her face.
"Sorry to disturb you, I was just worried." Yaoyorozu said.
Jiro rubbed her eyes and faked a yawn, pretending that she had been sleeping.
"I'm alright, I'm just tired." Jiro lied.
Meanwhile, Midoriya had reached a new level of nervousness and anxiety, as he was forced to remain quiet while trapped in this situation.
"It looked bad but we could've just split up and just said we were talking, what was she thinking?!" Midoriya thought, while still panicking.
It only got worse when Jiro moved backwards, her body now close to his.
Midoriya thought of trying to move away but feared that Yaoyorozu would notice.
"Jiro must've moved back to make it look like the covers only have one shape." Midoriya thought.
Despite knowing her intentions, he was still stressed out.
A full range of emotions washed over him, until he finally couldn't take it anymore.
Overwhelmed by all of it, he passed out.
Jiro and Yaoyorozu talked for only a few minutes but for Jiro, it felt like an eternity.
"Normally, I'm happy to talk to her, right now, not so much." Jiro thought.
As Yaoyorozu bid her goodnight and shut the door, Jiro threw off the covers to find a passed out Midoriya.
Jiro sighed.
"Great, just what I need." Jiro said, sarcastically.
Jiro got out of bed, hearing the voices of others who were in the halls.
Jiro locked her door and stared at the floor for a moment.
"I'm not sleeping on the floor." Jiro thought.
Jiro looked over at Midoriya, seeing him peacefully sleeping.
"He might be a mess, but he's not a bad guy and I can't let him sleep on the floor either." Jiro thought.
Jiro stood there for a moment, remembering Midoriya's kindness from earlier and the fact that she had kind of thrown him on there anyway.
"I can't believe I'm doing this." Jiro whispered.
Jiro walked over and climbed back into the bed, pulling the covers over both of them again.
"I could still kick him out." Jiro thought.
As she debated back and forth on what to do, Midoriya unconsciously leaned in closer, resting his head against hers.
"Thank you, Jiro." Midoriya whispered.
Jiro smiled, as he was clearly dreaming but still felt the sincerity of his words.
"You're welcome, Midoriya." Jiro whispered back.
