AN: This is based on a request from breath20k. I hope that you all enjoy it. :)

Mario's day had been extremely boring so far. He had read a few books, but unfortunately, he had lost interest in all of them fairly quickly. He had gone for a walk, but he got tired of it around the ten minute mark and had just headed straight home. He had listened to music, but the songs he had chosen were no longer stimulating for him. They had been drilled so deeply into his brain that all the glamour and catchiness that made them special had faded into the ether for the rest of eternity.

So, Mario was just laying on his couch, doing nothing except breathing in the air of his house. Friends and strangers who had been in the house before had informed Mario that it smelt of pasta and fire flowers, but Mario's nose had gotten so used to the smell that he no longer detected it. He took a deep breath, and when he let it out, the sound that he produced resembled a bored sigh.

It was at this point that Mario heard the front door open. He heard footsteps accompanied by laughter. He would've lifted his head to see who it was, but that was not necessary. The laughter was so distinct that Mario was able to pick up on who it was almost instantly. He heard the two people who had entered the house come into the living room.

"Hey, Mario!"

"Hey, Luigi. Hey, Dragon Puncher."

Luigi stepped forward with Dragon Puncher by his side. Both of them were smiling wide. That was, until they saw the state of boredom that Mario now occupied. That was when the face of Dragon Puncher fell, and Luigi's expression morphed into concern.

"Are you okay, bro?" Luigi asked.

Mario sighed.

"Yeah," he said a little overdramatically. Dragon Puncher giggled.

"You don't sound fine," he said. "What's up, buddy?"

Mario shook his head, trying to clear the fog from his mind.

"Nothing. It's just that today I'm feeling a little 'blah.'"

"Blah?" Dragon Puncher asked.

"Yeah, Dragon, blah."

"But you're Super Mario. I thought Super Mario was always supposed to be feeling super."

Mario directed his eyes forward. He had a feeling that it looked to Luigi and Dragon Puncher that a glassy texture had glazed over his eyeballs.

"Well, I don't feel super right now." He slumped deeper into the cushions. "And if this day is any indication, I won't be feeling super ever again."

Luigi rolled his eyes.

"Okay, that was way too melodramatic for your own good. I think it is time that the three of us get out of the house and do something."

"Like what?" Mario asked as he looked at his brother. He saw Dragon Puncher smile.

"Well," Dragon Pucher said. "Did you know that this year is the twelve year anniversary of Mario Kart Wii?"

Mario was a little taken aback.

"Really?" he asked as he sat up. He chuckled. "Oh man, where has all that time gone?"

Luigi laughed.

"I know bro; it seems like just yesterday we were racing on courses like Maple Treeway and Moonview Highway for the first time."

Mario shuttered when he remembered the pure, unadulterated chaos that was Moonview Highway. Dragon must have noticed it, because he let out a laugh.

"I remember playing the game for the first time. MAN, it was fun!"

Mario turned toward Dragon Puncher.

"So, is there anything that you think we should do to celebrate such an occasion?"

Dragon Puncher's eyes glittered.

"As a matter of fact, I do! You see, I had rented out Waluigi Stadium for the day. I was wondering if you two would like to do a three lap race around it?"

Mario's eyes grew wide in excitement.

"Are you kidding? I would love to! It would be just like the good old days."

"Great!" Dragon Puncher said with a grin. "Okay, you two, get your go karts! I'll meet you there!"

When Mario pulled into Waluigi Stadium, he could see that there was a humongous crowd to celebrate the occasion. He could see people from all over the Mushroom World. Some of them, like Daisy and Wario, were friends that he was well familiar with. Others, like Ms. Mowz and Starlow, were friends that he had not met in a long time. And still others weren't even friends, yet he was happy to see them cheering him on.

"Go, Mario!" Toadette called out as she waved a flag for him.

"You got this Luigi, see?" Popple said from his front row seat. Mario looked over at his brother and saw his complexion go vermillion. Mario laughed as he pulled up to the starting line in his standard kart. Mario looked over at Luigi and held out his hand.

"May the best racer win!" he said.

"Oh, I plan to, bro!" Luigi said with a laugh. "But in all seriousness, I wish you luck."

Mario grinned as Luigi shook his hand.

"Thanks!" then he looked around. "Hey, where is Dragon Puncher?"

As if on cue, Dragon Puncher ran out in front of the starting line with a whistle being worn around his neck.

"Okay, guys!" he said excitedly. "You ready to race?"

"Yeah!" Mario and Luigi shouted in unison. Dragon Puncher smiled.

"Alright!" he held up his fingers and turned to the crowd. "Okay everyone, countdown with me!"

The crowd excitedly shouted in unison as Dragon started to count.

"Three! Two! One! GO!"

With that, mario and Luigi were going off. Luigi pulled ahead of Mario pretty quickly, as his go kart had better acceleration. However, Mario was a master of drifting, so he managed to navigate the corners like a pro. He passed Luigi effortlessly.

"See you at the finish line Weegee!"

Mario laughed as he zoomed into an item bow. He watched with glee as his item roulette spun. Just as he expected he would, Mario got a red shell. He held it behind his kart to block any of Luigi's possible oncoming attacks.

Unfortunately, Mario's red shell could not protect him from what Luigi had in store. A blue shell was detected on Mario's radar, causing him to panic.

"No, no, no!" he screamed in terror.

The blue shell was whizzing right over him now. He looked up just in time to see it before it pummeled his kart. He flew up into the air, and when he landed he could see that Luigi had passed him. Luigi laughed.

"So long, slowpoke!" he shouted.

Mario would have laughed if it weren't for the fact that he was so competitive. He gritted his teeth and put his foot on the gas.

Second lap. Mario was still behind Luigi. He did a trick of the ramp, passing through the ring of fire to do it. As he did, he saw all the people who were cheering for him. He smiled when he spotted Peach in the crowd.

"Go, Mario!" she cried.

Mario pressed his foot harder on the gas once he landed. He drifted around the muddy corner and effortlessly did a trick off of the half pipes. He could just barely see Luigi past the wooden piranha plants. Unfortunately, since Mario didn't have an item with him, he couldn't catch up. He did more tricks off of the bumps in the road, determined to catch up with his brother.

"It's the final lap!" Dragon called out once Mario had crossed the finish line after Luigi.

"Yes, it is," Mario said. He drifted around the corner again and smashed into an item box. This time, however, he was in for another nasty surprise from Luigi before his item roulette was even finished rotating. Luigi had gotten a green shell, which he threw backward. Because of this, Mario ended up getting sniped, giving Luigi even more of a lead.

"Come on, come on!" Mario said as he started up his engine again. His heart was thumping in his ears, his forehead was riddled with sweat. He just had to win; he just had to!

Thankfully, Mario got the best item that he could possibly get in this kind of situation; the bullet bill. He activated it without so much as a second thought, causing him to go speeding down the track. He shattered the wooden piranha plants in his path, crossed over mud like it was nothing. Then, just as he went over the final jump, he passed Luigi and crossed the finish line. Dragon Puncher and the rest of the crowd cheered.

"Mario is the winner!" Dragon announced.

Mario did a fist pump and waved at the cheering crowd.

"Mario Number One! Woohoo!" he yelled.

Luigi grinned as he pulled up to Mario.

"Nice game bro," he said.

Dragon puncher smiled.

"Okay! Now it's time for the fireworks!"

Mario and Luigi looked at Dragon in surprise.

"Wait, what?" they said in unison.

Suddenly, Mario heard a series of booms go off in the sky. He looked up and gasped in awe. There were so many beautiful colors filling up the sky; more colors than he had originally thought possible. The crowd oohed and aahed, and Luigi sighed whimsically.

"It is so pretty!" he said.

Suddenly, one last firework went off. When it did, the sparks left behind in the sky spelled out a message. It read:

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY MARIO KART WII!
