At the bar, Kaliana was met by a grinning Liya.
"What are you after?" The Twi'lek asked.
"A drink, please," The Jedi replied.
"Didn't know Jedi drank," The Smuggler commented casually, "But whatever. What are you having?"
Kaliana sighed, "I don't, normally, but I need it right now," She replied, before it dawned on her that she had no idea what to order. She didn't even know the names of the beverages served here, "Um... What do you reccommend?" She asked.
A more experienced person might have known not to trust Liya, especially not when she had that glint in her eye. The Twi'lek liked mischief, and sensed a good opportunity to get the Jedi drunker than she intended...
She poured a lethal-looking cocktail into a fancy glass and shoved it across the bar. The Jedi thanked her for it politely.
Then Kaliana picked it up and inspected it dubiously, before taking a sip. It was sharper than she had expected, and she wondered what the appeal of alcohol was.
Deciding there was only one way to find out, she gulped the rest of the rather unpleasant drink down.
The next thing she knew, the room was spinning. She wasn't entirely sure what happened after that, because it all became a blur, but the last thing she remembered before blacking out was someone holding her.
The next morning, she awoke with a start, sitting up and groaning. Her head hurt, and to make it worse, she had no idea where she was. Well, she was in a bedroom, but she had no idea whose.
Oh, Force... That drink must have made her do something stupid. Alina was never going to let her live this one down.
Alina! Where was Alina? She had left her brand new, adopted daughter with said colleague. And then abandoned them for a cocktail and who knew what else...
She had to push those thoughts aside rather hastily, because someone was opening the door. She sat on the bed awkardly, wondering how to handle this. Then something occurred to her. She was still fully dressed, even down to her boots. Given the state that she had been in the night before, it was unlikely that that she had re-dressed herself, so she guessed nothing had happened after all.
Thank Force. She had panicked too soon. Hastily, the relieved Jedi attempted to compose herself as her unknown host entered.
The door finally swung open all the way, and a middle-aged man in an Imperial Uniform entered. He had brown hair and light skin, and Kaliana didn't recognise him at all. She watched him curiously, not knowing what to say or do now.
"Ah, you're awake! Good morning, my Lady," He greeted her.
She frowned, confused, "I'm not a lady, I'm a Jedi," She protested, her normally impeccable manners slipping right out of her head now she was in such an unfamiliar situation.
"Oh, forgive me... Miss?" He didn't seem to know what to call her now, "Only you're Lady Nox's sister, and she is rather... Particular about how we deal with her family, so..."
Kaliana wasn't listening right now. Her mind was racing. Lady Nox... Her sister. She usually tried to ignore the fact that Kitty and Darth Nox were one and the same.
So she was at her sister's house? Of course, the party was on Nar Shaddaa, where she knew Kitty lived. It made sense.
Relieved that she was starting piece together the confusing memories of the night before, she nodded, "I see. Well, I prefer 'Kaliana' over 'Lady'," She told him. "Now, if you don't mind telling me, how did I get to Kitty's house?"
He stared at her for a few minutes, before responding, "You're Kaliana Zalia?"
She blinked, wondering why that was important, "Yes," She nodded.
"I'm sorry, it's just that I've read a lot of your work... I mean, as much as I could without getting into trouble for using Republic sites," He started to explain.
"Ah, you mean my research. Well, it is a passion of mine. My fellow Jedi are far too concerned with the war, no one thinks about our historical artefacts anymore," Kaliana responded. Her headache wasn't going to stop her rambling about the life's work her fellow Jedi considered a waste of her talents.
"I quite understand. Far too many Imperials in the army and not enough in the reclaimation service," He replied, "The Sith don't usually help, but that's why I admire Lady Nox. She values knowledge."
"Really? I didn't know..." Kaliana was a little surprised to learn that about her sister. Perhaps they had more in common than she had thought.
He nodded. There was a brief pause in the conversation, then he seemed to remember something, "Oh, where are my manners? I forgot to answer your question. I carried you here last night..." Her expression must have been incredulous here, because he continued, "Sorry, was that okay? You passed out, and everyone else was far too drunk. Lady Nox seemed to want it..."
She shrugged it off, "It was better than lying on that Cantina floor. Now... I should get going." She stood up.
"Oh, don't rush off. Lady Nox is making breakfast..."
Breakfast with a Sith wasn't high on her list of priorities, but the man, who later introduced himself as Talos Drellik, was surprisingly good company for an Imperial and managed to talk her into staying.
Besides, she reminded herself, that Sith was her sister. She should make an effort with her family. So she followed Talos into a huge living room, decorated with far too many Imperial banners.
Alina was sat in the middle of it, with Kilma on her knee. The child was playing quite happily, but the other Jedi looked up sharply as they entered, "Well, well, well, if it isn't Master Drunkard," She mocked. Kaliana sighed. She had forgotten about Alina and her withering sarcasm for five minutes there... "And what took you two so long in the bedroom?" She added with a grin that turned Talos scarlet.
"We were talking," Kaliana replied coldly.
"So that's what it's called nowadays, is it?" She muttered.
"Alina Talon, there is a child here!" Kaliana snapped, "Get your mind of the gutter," She turned to Talos, "I apologise for her. Now, where is my sister?"
Despite all the warnings about not disturbing a cooking Sith, she left Alina giggling to herself and went into the kitchen. To her horror, breakfast was being fried by lightning. Kitty was clearly enjoying it.
No one was getting hurt, so Kaliana tried to let it slide, though she ate her food tensely that morning. It was okay though, and everyone seemed to manage a civilised conversation over their food.
When she walked away, it was with an invitation from her sister to come back sometime, her daughter in her arms and Alina's praise for 'finally loosening up'. Kaliana didn't like that comment, but, as she thought of her growing friendship with her long-lost sister, her... Whatever her interactions with Talos were, and her new daughter, she considered that if that was what she had done, it was worth it.
Family didn't seem so bad after all.
