It wasn't uncommon for Chi Chi to wake ahead of Goku since she was a lighter sleeper than he was. Heading outside, she took the time to stretch for a bit before heading back inside. She held Goku's nose until he woke up from the lack of oxygen.
"Chi Chi! You know I don't like it when you do that!" Goku said.
"Well wake up faster then. We have chores to do," Chi Chi responded.
With a yawn, Goku got out of his bed. "I'm hungry," he said, holding his stomach.
Chi Chi wasn't surprised. Not even ten seconds out of bed and Goku was already hungry.
The two usually took turns getting breakfast and today was Chi Chi's. Like yesterday, she wanted something different and for today, she was feeling like having something along the lines of saber tooth tiger meat.
Goku was all for this. He had never tried that kind of meat before, but was very excited to do so.
However, before Chi Chi could head off, she turned Goku to his grandfather's dragon ball, adorned with four stars, behind him. In the time she and Goku lived together, she didn't think much of it, but knew it meant a lot to him since it was a gift from his grandfather. However, on this day, the dragon ball was doing something it had never done before.
Goku turned to his surprise to discover a bright orange glow emitting from the object. Both he and Chi Chi gawked in awe.
"Grandpa?" Goku said, curiously.
Chi Chi also knew Goku called his dragon ball, 'Grandpa' for obvious reasons and while at first, she found it weird, she learned to accept it. But like him, she was also curious as to why the dragon ball glowing like this.
Goku surmised that perhaps his grandfather trying to talk to him, though Chi Chi automatically dismissed that theory.
Remembering that her father owned a dragon ball, she never recalled it glowing before. It was just an item that he kept for aesthetic value. But was there more to this dragon ball than she thought?
Just outside the forests of where Goku and Chi Chi were, in the mountains, a young teal haired girl rode in a small car, making her her way into the woods until she made a stop.
The girl stepped outside her car, revealing a pink shirt which bore her name, 'Bulma.'
From out of her pocket, she pulled out a circular electronic device and pressed a button at the top of it. On the device's screen, a couple of dots appeared, one of them was in the direction northwest of where she was.
"Hold tight, my little beauty. I'm comin' for ya," she said, placing the device back in her pocket and returning to her car.
While Goku was doing the morning chores, Chi Chi had her eye on a lone saber tooth tiger in the woods. Since this was her first time hunting something like this, she was naturally a tad bit nervous, but she knew she had to keep her focus.
The tiger growled as it slowly paced through the woods around near the tree where Chi Chi was hiding.
Once its back was turned, Chi Chi jumped from the tree and hid behind another one so as not to be seen. She tiptoed to another, then another, and then another until she was a few feet behind him, closed in on him, and gave him a hard tug on the tail.
The irritated tiger turned to see Chi Chi as the one who perpetrated this and gave her an angry growl.
"Good morning," Chi Chi mocked, patting her butt in the tiger's face.
This further infuriated the tiger who chased after her.
As the chase commenced, Chi Chi zigzagged around the trees in a pattern, never running in a straight line. After a few runarounds, she jumped into one of the trees while the tiger kept running until he realized she had gone. He looked around, but couldn't find her and therefore didn't see her leap from one of the tree and stomp him on the head. Further angered, he continued chasing her, cornering her by a tree.
"Oh please! Please! Please don't eat me!" Chi Chi cried, feigning fear.
The tiger charged towards her and with a sly smile, Chi Chi leaped over him, leaving him to tumble over some apples. With the tiger left vulnerable, she knocked him out with a kick to the head, followed by a stomp to the gut.
Commending herself on a job well done, Chi Chi was just about ready to take the unconscious tiger home when suddenly, she heard a sound in the distance that was headed in her direction. Though this sound was quite different from what she usually heard. It wasn't the sound of another animal, the rushing water, from the rivers or waterfalls, the tweets of birds, or the leafs of tress blowing in the wind; it was something that while different, seemed a little familiar.
The sound was inching closer. Out of caution, Chi Chi hid in one of the trees.
As the sound approached and revealed itself, to her surprise and shock, it was something she had not seen in a long time; a car. Not since she came to live with Goku had Chi Chi seen a vehicle of any kind, but what was a car doing out here? Though the car zoomed by, she managed to catch a glimpse of the person inside; the girl called Bulma. Upon observation, she realized the car was heading in the direction of where Goku was.
Chi Chi didn't know who this person was or what she was doing out here, if she was heading towards Goku, she figured she would follow her, just to make sure Goku wasn't in any danger, then come back for the tiger later.
Focusing all his energy into one shot, Goku punched through a large log, creating a bunch of firewood. Satisfied as he was with his work, he was growing hungrier and wondered what was keeping Chi Chi.
Just then, he heard the same noise she had heard coming towards him. Curious, he looked off in the distance.
"I wonder what that is?" he pondered.
The car, driven by Bulma, made itself visible to him. Not knowing what a car was, Goku mistook it for a monster.
Inside the car, Bulma saw the young boy rushing at her, but what she did not expect for him to stop her in her tracks with only his two hands, then lift her up and toss her to the side.
"What the heck just happened?!" Bulma said, crawling out of her car.
Goku pulled out a long red staff and pointed it at the tilted car. "I don't know who you are, monster, but you picked the wrong place to terrorize!" he shouted.
Peeking over the car, Bulma saw Goku looking like he was ready to attack her. In defense, she pulled out a small gun and pointed it at.
"Back off! I've got a gun here and I'm not afraid to use it!" Bulma shouted.
"Huh? What's a gun?" Goku asked, confused.
"Wait, you're just a kid," Bulma said, getting a better look at Goku.
Just then, Chi Chi kicked the gun out of Bulma's hand and stood in front of her.
"Glad you're here, Chi Chi! Now we can both take down this monster!" exclaimed Goku.
"She's not a monster, she's a girl! Like me," said Chi Chi.
"Wait, so that's a girl?" Goku asked.
"Of course! What do ya think?!" Bulma and Chi Chi said.
It wasn't that surprising that Goku didn't know much about girls. He didn't know Chi Chi was a girl when he first met her.
After removing herself from her car, Bulma introduced herself to the two.
"'Bulma?'" Goku and Chi Chi said.
"Yeah, so what?" Bulma asked.
"That name sound weird," said Goku.
"Yeah, it sounds a lot like...'bloomers,'" Chi Chi said with a chuckle.
Goku just looked at her confused, not knowing what bloomers were.
"IT DOES NOT SOUND LIKE BLOOMERS!" Bulma shouted before noticing Goku eyeing her car.
Still thinking it was a monster, Chi Chi and Bulma informed him that it was in fact a car.
"Wow! So this is a car, huh? Chi Chi told me about them, but I've never actually seen one," Goku said to Bulma. "She also told me about something called a, 'city.' Is that where you come from?"
"Yep, sure is," said Bulma. "By the way, what are a couple of kids like you doing out here alone?"
As Goku was answering her question, he was immediately cut off by Chi Chi.
"Hey, we'll ask the questions here! What are you doing here?!" Chi Chi said.
The two argued slightly before glaring at each other with gritted teeth. While this was happening, Goku took it upon himself to peek underneath Bulma's skirt.
"Hey! What do you think you're doing?!" said Bulma pulling back her skirt.
"Chi Chi, she's like you. She doesn't have a tail," Goku pointed out.
In response, Chi Chi knocked Goku upside the head. "HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND, DOOFUS?! DON'T DO THAT!" she shouted.
"I was just checking!" Goku argued.
While the two were arguing, Bulma noticed that himself had a tail, though Chi Chi did not. She had never a child with a tail before, so she figured he must've been a rare kind. Rare or not though, she still found it weird. Ignoring their arguing, she took out her device and pressed it. It was showing her that a dragon ball was in close proximity. In fact, it was coming from Goku and Chi Chi's house. Seeing this, she rushed inside to discover the dragon ball glowing as bright as it ever was.
Her eyes widened with satisfaction as she picked up the ball.
Just then, Chi Chi and Goku noticed Bulma had went inside.
"Hey! Let go of my grandpa!" Goku shouted, seeing Bulma with the dragon ball in her hands.
Chi Chi and Goku both ran inside the house.
"Your 'grandpa?'" Bulma asked curiously before Goku snatched the ball out of her hands.
"Yeah! Grandpa gave me this to remember him by! It's very special to me," Goku said.
"It's true. He won't even let me touch it," said Chi Chi.
"Hmm, well I guess it's alright if I show you," said Bulma.
"Show us what?" asked Chi Chi.
Reaching into her bag, Bulma pulled out two dragon balls of her own, to Goku and Chi Chi's shock, glowing just as bright. One had one star and the other had five stars.
"Woah! She has two grandpa's?!" Goku exclaimed.
"They're not grandpa's, kid. These are called dragon balls," said Bulma.
Goku had never heard of dragon balls before, but for Chi Chi, the name seemed familiar.
At Bulma's request, Goku place his dragon ball along with hers on the table. The three balls glowed immensely bright. An orange light engulfed the three's faces.
"So, are these magic?" Chi Chi asked Bulma.
"Yep," Bulma answered. "There are seven of these altogether."
"What do they do?" asked Goku.
"When all seven of the dragon balls are gathered together, the eternal dragon, Shenron, is summoned. He has the ability to grant a single wish to whoever summons him, practically anything the wisher desires," Bulma explained.
Suddenly, Chi Chi began to remember something very similar that her father once told her before he died. For a while, she thought it might've been just a myth, but now she began to think that there may be some truth to the tale.
Goku was equally surprised. "I never knew these things were magic. How come my grandpa never told me about this?" he wondered.
"He probably didn't know," Bulma assumed.
"So this dragon can really grant any wish?" Chi Chi asked.
"Uh huh. But that's a double edged sword. If these ever fell into the wrong hands, it would be big trouble," said Bulma.
Upon hearing this, Chi Chi recalled many times that bandits had tried to invade her old village, looking for things to steal, one of which being her father's very dragon ball which came back to her memory.
"Don't get my grandpa's ball mixed up with yours, OK?" Goku said to Bulma.
"Oh no worries about that. Each dragon ball a specific number of stars on them," said Bulma.
"Oh! I see! And my grandpa's has four stars!" said Goku.
Thinking back, Chi Chi remembered her father's dragon ball had two stars on it.
"So will you let me have your dragon ball?" Bulma asked Goku.
"No way! My grandpa gave me this to remember him by, so I'm keeping it!" Goku said.
"Well what if you let me have the dragon ball, I make my wish, then I'll just bring it back to you?" Bulma suggested.
"No!" Goku answered, responding with a raspberry.
Just then, Chi Chi grabbed Goku by the arm. "Uh, could you excuse us for just one second, please?" she chuckled before dragging Goku outside the house.
She made sure they were a good distance away before talking to him and went behind one of the trees.
"What is it, Chi Chi?" Goku asked.
"I know how much it means to you, but I think you should let Bulma have the dragon ball," Chi Chi suggested.
"What?! Why should I?!" Goku protested.
His grandfather's dragon ball was the only thing Goku had left of him. There was no way he wanted to part ways for it just so someone could have their wish.
Chi Chi further explained. "OK, you don't have to give it to her, you can keep it, because how bout this? Let's go with her!"
"Huh?! What do you mean?!" Goku wondered.
"I mean let's go with Bulma and help her find the dragon balls! If what she says is true, then we could wish for anything we want! I could even wish...to bring my father back," Chi Chi said.
"You mean, bring your dad back to life?" asked Goku.
"Exactly!" exclaimed Chi Chi. "Once she gathers all the dragon balls, I'll use them to grant my wish!"
Chi Chi was admittedly dumbfounded at the idea of being reunited with her father; being able to see him, touch him, hug him, and kiss him as she did before. But if there was any opportunity for her to do so, she was gonna take it.
"But wait, are you gonna take Bulma's wish from her? That doesn't seem very nice," Goku said.
"Of course it's nice, Goku! We're talking about bringing my father back! There's nothing more noble than that! Besides, she can have her wish after I have mine. And besides that, think of the adventures we could have. Going out into the world, seeing all kinds of new places, I'm sure that's what your grandpa would want," Chi Chi said.
"Really?! You think so?!" Goku asked.
"I know so," Chi Chi answered with a wink. "So what do you say?"
"OK, let's do it!" Goku exclaimed.
Chi Chi grabbed Goku by the arm and the two went back into the house where Bulma was waiting and informed her that they intended to join her. At first, Bulma was a little unsure bringing two kids along, though seeing what they could do, she figured it would be good having two bodyguards.
And so with that, the three departed the house and prepared to head on their way.
"Well since your friend messed up my car, we're gonna need a new way to travel," said Bulma.
"Couldn't we just walk?" asked Goku.
Bulma looked to Goku, confidently waving her finger and giving him a wink. "Not when I have my Dino caps," she said.
From out her pocket, she pulled out a small white container and opened it, revealing a number of capsules, different in size and numbered, and took one numbered '5.' At her request, Goku ad Chi Chi stood back as she pressed a button at the top of the capsule and tossed it to the ground. A cloud of smoke appeared and from that came a brand new car.
Goku jumped back in shock while Chi Chi stayed fixed to her spot.
"Look at what she did, Chi Chi! She must be some kind of witch!" Goku exclaimed, grabbing onto Chi Chi.
"Relax, Goku! She's not a witch, it's just one of her capsules. My dad used to have one of these," Chi Chi said, pulling Goku off of her.
As Chi Chi climbed inside the car, Goku, still worried, took his power pull a poked at it, much to her and Bulma's annoyance.
"Hey! Knock it off, kid! You're making me nervous! Just hop in and settle down!" Bulma said.
"Are you sure it won't eat me?" Goku asked.
"I'm sure, now come on!" Bulma insisted.
Though still a bit weary, Goku climbed inside the back seat with Chi Chi. Bulma closed both the back doors before heading into the driver's seat and started the engine.
"Bwah! The monster's growling!" Goku exclaimed.
"IT'S JUST THE ENGINE!" Chi Chi and Bulma shouted.
"OK, here we go," said Bulma.
With the car started, the three headed on their way.
In a far off village, the usually peaceful atmosphere of the people living their everyday lives was halted by the sounds of planes engines filling the air. The shadows of said planes encompassed the villagers who looked up to the sky to see dozens upon dozens planes and choppers hovering above them. Some were so large that they even blocked out the sun.
One by one, the planes all landed in separate places in and near the village.
Young kids quickly hid behind their parents for safety.
The hatch doors of the air vehicles opened from which emerged soldiers armed with machine guns.
The soldiers immediately surrounded the frightened villagers, guns pointed at them, making the shiver in terror.
In the center of the village landed the largest plane of them all. It towered over the villagers and on its sides were insignia's of a white 'M' with black eagle wings. From out of the plane came two individuals; a small blue elf-like creature and an equally small dog wearing a purple ninja outfit.
The soldiers parted way as the elf and dog approached the surrounded villagers.
"Greetings," said the elf. "I am Pilaf and this is Shu. We apologize for the unexpected visit, but our leader would like to have a few 'words' with you."
Pilaf elbowed Shu, reminding him of his cue, to which Shu then took out a small piece of paper.
The dog ninja cleared his throat before reading. "Attention...uh...all citizens. It is with...great pleasure..that we present to you...a magnotomus..." he started.
"Magnanimous!" Pilaf corrected.
Shu continued. "Oh, right. A 'magnanimous' leader...gifted with grace, beauty, wisdom, and intel-uh...intelleegiant..."
Pilaf gave Shu a hard punch to the head. "Intelligence! INTELLIGENCE! Which is what you obviously lack!" he scolded.
"Just get on with it!" shouted a voice from one of the planes, scaring the two.
"Yes, uh...introducing... the one and only, Commander Mai!" Pilaf announced, motioning his hand to the plane.
Out from the shadows of the plane stepped an indeed beautiful woman dressed in a military commander outfit. Hands behind her back, she walked past the open sea of of scared, shivering villagers with a stoic, cold look on her face. They could just feel the chill emanating from her as she stood in the center of the village to address them.
"Well I've already been introduced so I won't waste your time with that. I'll make this short and sweet; I'm looking for a special kind of item, maybe you've heard of it; an orange ball with red stars on it, a dragon ball? Me and my army have been searching for one for quite some time, but our efforts have proven to be unsuccessful. But we're hoping our fortunes will change here. All we ask is that you cooperate. Do that and things will go along smoothly, don't and things will get real ugly, real fast," Mai said.
She emphasized this by firing off a machine gun at one of the windows of a house just above the heads of the villagers.
After asking point blank if they had a dragon ball, one of the villagers; a young male; presented themselves to her.
"Excuse me...um...Mai? I'm not sure if what I have is what you're looking for but I..I think it could possibly be..." he started before he was cut off by Mai firing off her gun again.
"If you don't mind, could you cut to the chase, please?" she asked bluntly in a monotone voice.
"I think I might have a uh.. dragon ball...in my house," the villager stuttered.
"Then what are you waiting for? Go get it!" Mai commanded.
At her request, the villager rushed towards his home. Mai then ordered Shu and Pilaf, along with a couple of soldiers to follow him.
While she waited, another one of the villager, a rugged, lean looking man, decided it was the perfect time to strike her while she was distracted. His family implored him not to attempt it, but he was determined not to let Mai push them around. He took a breath, counted to three, and with a yell, charged at her.
This however, would prove to be a mistake as Mai, hearing him, quickly turned and shot him in his kneecap, then his other one.
His family cried out in horror as their father and husband dropped to his knees with blood coming out of each one.
"Yelling out a sneak attack? Really? Not very smart," Mai said.
The father then dropped to his side, holding both his knees, screaming in pain while his family watched with tears coming out of their eyes.
As Mai watched, a slight expression of regret came across her usually cold face and she motioned her hand towards the father. She didn't want to shoot him, but he was going after her, it was self defense. If he had just stayed put, this wouldn't have happened. She steeled herself shortly after, then turned to she Pilaf, Shu, and the other villager return.
Pilaf, Shu, and the villager were shocked to find the injured father laying behind the commander.
"What happened?!" Shu asked.
"Just someone who was misbehaving. Did you find the dragon ball?" Mai asked, turning to the villager.
The villager's heart felt like it had stopped beating. He didn't know why Mai shot him, but he didn't need to know, he just needed to give her the dragon ball and hopefully, she would leave. Without hesitation, he presented her with his dragon ball which had three stars on it and she immediately took it.
"Is that it, Commander Mai?" Pilaf asked.
After observing it, Mai concluding that it was in fact a dragon ball. "Alright boys, we're done here. Soldiers, move out!" Mai commanded.
The villager who gave Mai the dragon ball was let go. The soldiers headed back to their respective planes, and Pilaf and Shu accompanied Mai to hers.
Before Mai walked inside, she looked back again to the father and his family who were gathered around him in angst. A small look of sadness came to her before she turned away and changed it back to a cold, emotionless one, heading back into her plane and leading her army away from the village.
