Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Cloud Nine. Enjoy the 1000-word chapter. I don't own Ducktales, Disney and Jymn Magon do.
(Present Times, Australia)
Sam was awakened by the noise of beeping and lazily reached for the alarm clock only to notice it was on the floor.
That was when he realized the noise came from the living room and he rolled out of bed before changing into a pair of blue and black pajamas.
"Where is that stupid racket…." Sammy noticed it came from the crude, scrappy radio that had fallen to the floor.
He blinked for a moment, then twice before realizing what that meant.
"Is that?" He asked himself before ripping through the pile of junk on the ground rapidly. He flung garbage, shoes, batteries, anything in the way of the device he wanted so desperately.
He clutched it with trembling fingers before steeling himself as he looked at it through bloodshot eyes.
The radar showed the DLT-18 in Duckberg, he almost dropped the fragile machine in his awe.
"Dell… is back on Earth?" He punched his arm to make sure his eyes weren't playing tricks. He had never welcomed the sting going through his arm before.
"She's alive…" Sammy whispered to himself before taking a breath, then several, to steel himself.
Then he was moving, he swept up his phone and booked a flight that would be leaving within an hour. He quickly called his boss. He got nothing but decided to leave a voicemail for the man who had helped him get the job in the first place.
"Hello, Mr. Fredrick? I know I don't ever ask for vacation time, but I was wondering if I could call in some favors. I'll put in overtime if I have to, but I'd like to say I'm not going to be coming in for a while. I have something personal to handle. I'll understand if you don't want me on the job anymore… call me back when you get a chance, sir." Sammy slipped his phone into his pocket and then began to load up a backpack.
He packed all the cash he had, every dollar he had was going to his family anyway. He slipped his phone charger into his backpack and then slipped on his shoes and went to pack a few pairs of clothing.
He scrolled through his contacts. Donald was blocked and he knew wouldn't be someone he'd want to talk with, it would just lead to an argument.
Gyro? No, he didn't care about anything but his science tech and probably didn't even care Della was back, it wasn't like he and Della got along to begin with.
Ducksworth was gone and he had never known the man to have a phone, so that stopped right there.
He scrolled to the one person who probably didn't want to body slam him through a wall besides Scrooge who probably had some misgivings towards him.
Ms. Beakley, he had called her a few times to ask about Webby and she had called him once the triplets had made it to the manner.
"Please pick up and don't hang up the second you do." it rang once, twice, then picked up on the third ring while Sammy walked out the door.
"Sammy? What are… Do you?" Sammy put the volume down.
"Yes, I know I'm coming right this second, you're the only one at the manor who doesn't want me beaten to a stain on the floor. Bent, is she…?" He asked, unwilling to hope after so long.
"Yes, do you want me to…" Sammy cut her off, hating himself for it, but unwilling to risk everyone knowing he's coming and barring him.
He couldn't blame them; his kids were with Donald. He had lost that day in court and he'd repeal that later, he wanted to see his kids, being their parent was a right he would earn.
"No. I just want to know someone will keep the front door ready when I get there. I already know the kids are gonna hate me and I can't blame them. I'm the example of the worst father ever." Beakley said nothing, she knew he sent money every day, even if it meant he'd be hungry.
Was Sammy a absent parent? Without a doubt, but he was not at all a neglectful parent and Beakley knew it. she had seen what Della being gone did to him and knew what he had done for his family. He had done everything he could to raise them until Donald became their guardian and cut all contact with anything related to McDuck.
Sammy got into the car and drove towards the airport. He almost wondered if he could see much more of the craft let alone be aboard one since she left.
"I'll tell Scrooge we have a visitor coming. I'd be careful around him; you know how family is around family," Beakley stated. Sammy nodded as he walked inside towards the terminal.
"I'd expect you to pummel me if Webby was ever endangered, 22. You have my thanks, I mean it, you're the only one I can trust to call… don't tell anyone I'm coming, if Scrooge wants to throw me into traffic and forbid me from being around my family again? I'll do it in person, like a man. I hope you stay safe. I'll text you when you get there." Sam hung up and then put his phone into his pocket.
He wanted to see her and the kids again, he didn't care if she hated him, as long as he got to see the only woman he loved again? That was all he asked.
