(This is my first song lyrics one shot, bear with me please lmao thank u).
"Eric, Brian, its your turn." Mr. Rogers walked up to them, and announced the news while shoving them towards the stage. Eric took one big deep breath, before he walked around the stage, to the other side of wings, so when he stepped out of it, hed look Brian directly in his eyes.
'This is it.' He thought, this was their big duet, and he was afraid he might start crying while he sang the heartfelt lyrics. Eric didn't know if this was Mr. Rogers' attempt of bringing the previous couple together, but he had to give him points for trying it.
Reading the lyrics at home broke the younger boy's heart, they were so beautiful but at the same time heartbreaking, he hoped he could keep things dry this time. Considering he cried buckets of tears alone in his room, he wasn't sure.
As the first notes could be heard through the entire room, Eric started wondering if this all actually had been a great idea. Sure, he gave his approval of singing a duet on stage, (he had been dying to steal a solo from Rachel for once, and he figured this was the closest he was going to get), but he debated whether this song was a good idea too.
But there was no way of backing out for Eric anymore now.
(Brian, together, Eric)
"Never knew I could feel like this."
Despite their fall out a couple weeks ago, Eric couldn't help but think Brian sounded absolutely beautiful. His singing voice would always be able to get Eric emotional, as did it now.
"Like I've never seen the sky before
Want to vanish inside your kiss."
Even though he promised himself he wouldn't cry until at least two chorus were sang, tears were slowly streaming over the blonde's cheeks.
"Seasons may change, winter to spring
But I love you until the end of time
Come what may
Come what may
I will love you until my dying day."
Brian dared a look into one of the wings, waiting for Eric to step out of the shadows and into the light. He did not a second too late, perfectly starting his part of the lyrics on time. As they sang together Eric slowly made his way towards Brian, securing his microphone on its standard, and prayed the other boy wouldn't notice his tears yet.
"Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place
Suddenly it moves with such a perfect grace
Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste
It all revolves around you."
It didn't take Brian long to notice them though, he still knew his best friend better than he thought. His heart broke into a million pieces as he recalled the thoughts swirling around in his mind. It hurt to call Eric his best friend, while they had been so much more. Brian knew it was probably for the best, but it didn't make his heart ache less.
"And there's no mountain too high
No river too wide
Sing out this song and I'll be there by your side
Storm clouds may gather
And stars may collide."
The next few chorus' would be the most emotional for the boys, as they both knew it was still very true, despite all the yelling and hurtful things they'd said a few weeks prior. It was just a three worded sentence, and they had said it to each other so many times before, only now, it would mean a lot more than it used to, and just the thought about it frightened the two boys more than anything else.
"But I love you."
"I love you."
"Until the end of time
Come what may
Come what may
I will love you
I will love you."
They finished the last note together, and just like that, the song was over. Tear streaks were evident on both their cheeks, and the broken shade of their eyes wasn't forgotten as they could both clearly spot it in the other their eyes.
Brian didn't even notice that the microphones were removed, or that both of them had to move off stage in order for the next performance to start, all he could think about was how broken Eric had looked while their duet. He was sure he looked just as hurt as him, maybe even a bit more, but the blondes feelings had always meant more to him than his own. However before he could busy himself with something else rather than dealing with split feelings, he felt a hand grab his own and pull him somewhere quiet.
In front of him was Eric, and in the flickering lights the broken shade of blue was even more evident than it was on stage. For Brian it felt like an ice cold hand had grabbed his heart, rather than the soft warm hand that was holding his, as he wished he could make Eric's eyes shine again with happiness.
Without another word said, Eric moved closer towards him and looked him in his eyes before he placed a soft kiss on Brian's right cheek. It was just a simple kiss cheek, but both of them knew it meant so much more than it must have looked, and for that simple gesture Brian couldn't have been more grateful. Things were finally smoothing out between them, and although singing this duet had meant more to them than the other will ever know, it meant that even though all the bad things that happened, they were going to be okay. They would be, both willing to move heaven and earth for each other and their relationship, they couldn't just let this go. Even though they wouldn't revere to each other as 'boyfriend' anymore, they would always still be best friends. And that meant the world to them.
Neither had to say anything, not even a word was shared between the two boys, before Eric took off again, leaving Brian stunned in the hallway. As Eric walked up the stairs, he couldn't help but take one more look behind him where the brunet was still standing. Instead of a sad look, there was a small smile forming itself on Brian's lips, and Eric was secretly proud he still had that effect on him.
