The Sandy Shores of Friendship
Location: Mufastu Beach, Japan.
Time: 1:00 pm
"Why are you crying," the young boy asked the child before him, a messy haired boy with freckles, wearing a blue All Might T-shirt and black shorts, combo'd with red shoes that were planted firmly in the sand, his head buried into his legs as his forehead rested against his knee's along with his forearms.
"*Sniff* I'm not crying," the boy replied trying to regain composure but found he was unable to.
"Is it your sinuses?"
"…N-no."
"Allergies?"
"No."
"Then I think you are crying."
"…"
"Are you okay?"
"I…don't think so."
"Well what happened?"
"Just my frien-….neighbor, just being a meanie to me."
"Did they beat you up?"
Aside from the waves crashing against the shore, silence befell the two of them in their conversation, despite not answering the child knew what the boy's answer was, apparent by the cuts and dirt marks on his clothes, parried with the sniffles from earlier. This compelled the child to take a seat next to the boy, mirroring his position with the exception of having his head fully upward, as he grew concerned with the boy's state of mind and physical condition.
"Why did they do it?"
The boy slightly raised his head from his knees, revealing his forehead, freckles, green eyes welled with tears beginning to open as he looked forward out toward the ocean that met the sky as he looked to the horizon.
"Because I stood up for a kid he wanted to hurt."
"That's it?"
"Yeah…"
"He sounds like a jerk."
"He wasn't always like that."
"I don't think that matters."
"I wish it did, Kacchan wasn't always the nicest, but he was my friend."
"What kind of friend would do that to somebody who considers him one?"
"Him…"
"Then I don't think he's your friend."
"He used to be."
"What changed?"
"He got an awesome quirk…and I didn't."
"I thought that was rarer nowadays."
"It is, but I guess I was lumped in with that group."
"Still, that's no excuse," the boy's head raised more from his legs, his chin being just past his knee's by a hair, as he turned his head to look at the child beside him, the boy had mismatched hair: white on the right side of his head and crimson red on the left side, the mixed nature of his physicality was amplified by the color of his eyes being different colors: black on his right, turquoise in his left. The child was wearing a very light looking and grey hoodie, along with a pear of blue shorts, no shoes though indicating he had been here awhile, "You're still a person, just because you're different doesn't mean you should be bullied like that."
"Y-you…think so," the boy smiled a little, as he wiped off the tears that rolled down his face from earlier.
"Yeah, doesn't everybody?"
"N-…no."
"Well, I'm glad to be the first."
"S-so…am I," the boy fully smiled, happy to finally have somebody not judge him for his handicap.
"Shoto Todoroki," Shoto smiled back as he extended his left hand to him.
"Izuku Midoriya," Izuku took the boy's hand, the two shaking hands happy to meet each other.
"I like your shirt, I'm an All Might fan to."
"Thank you, but how did you know it was an All Might shirt?"
"His list of smashes are on the back."
"O-oh," Izuku blushed at his blunder, "Guess that was obvious."
"Well not to you, it's on your back not your front."
"G-good point," Midoriya chuckled, thankful that Shoto didn't think he was dumb or lame for forgetting.
"What's your favorite smash?"
"Hmmmm, probably Detroit, I think it's so cool how he just punches and a huge gust of wind shoots out like POW," Izuku crossed his legs as he pulled back his fist and punched forward mimicking his idol, grateful that he was able to relax with a fellow All Might fan.
"Really, I always liked the New Hampshire smash more, because it goes more like SHEW" Shoto followed suit by making an X shape with his arms and uncrossing them forcefully, causing Deku to quickly duck under his left arm before it could accidentally hit him, "O-oh sorry."
"It's ok, but they're both really cool," Izuku replied as he started getting more pumped up, "Have you seen that one video where he took out that group of robots with a single New Hampshire!?"
"The one where it was so strong it one took out the rest behind the first one, yeah that's my favorite," Shoto retorted carrying the energy presented in the conversation.
"AH IT'S SO COOL RIGHT?!"
"The coolest!"
"Oooo what about that one time he took on eight mutant bikers at once without even breaking a sweat?!"
"Hmmmmmmmm," Shoto gripped his chin between his index finger and thumb on his right hand, trying to place that event in his mind, it was true he was an All Might fan but wasn't an encyclopedia like his quirk obsessed companion, "Don't think I've seen anything on that one."
"Oh," Midoriya was understanding of him not knowing the epic brawl between All Might and the bikers, most didn't since it was a simple dispute but Kacchan had made frequent reference to it long ago, when they were friends at least. He wanted to invite the boy over to his home, but they had only just met and wasn't sure if he wanted to continue interacting with him, "I can tell you the title if you want, you can always watch it online at your home."
"I'd really appreciate it, but if you want I can-"
"Shotooooooooooooooo!"
"Huh," the two boys turned toward the source of the sound, slowly coming into their field of view was a girl, her hair colored white with tiny sprinkles of red in certain strands still quite visible despite the large white sun hat; clearly too big for her indicating that it was her mother's. She wore a sundress colored in splashes of white and pink and sporting a pair of small rectangular glasses. She stopped making her way toward them; not wanting to get too far from her mother and her other younger brother and also knew that the two could at least see her.
"Are you coming back, mom only has us here for another hour," she cupped her mouth with her hands as she yelled, but still held a kind tone in her voice, not wanting to appear nagging to her brother.
"I am, I'll be over in a minute sis," Shoto yelled back, his sister giving a thumbs up to the air, before turning around to go back to her family's spot,
"W-who w-was that," the freckled boy asked, a minor blush coming to his cheeks as he kept his eyes on the girl, 'She's so pretty.'
"That's my older sister Fuyumi," Shoto clarified as he turned his attention back to Midoriya, "Huh, is there something wrong?"
"N-no, why," Midoriya asked as he looked back at Shoto.
"Your face is red," the half and half boy pointed at Izuku's cheeks.
"U-u-uh no that's nothing," Izuku covered his face with his arms, trying to hide his embarrassment.
"If you're too warm I can make some ice with my quirk."
"N-n-no that's fine," Midoriya kept trying to evade him with his predicament, but soon realized the bombshell the kid just dropped on him.
"YOU CAN MAKE ICE!?"
"Yeah."
"THAT'S SO COOL!"
"Thanks, I can also make fire to," Shoto's eyes lowered, a frown overtaking his smile, "But, I can't really control it much yet and don't like using much."
"Oh, well don't worry you'll be able to use it someday," Midoriya's optimism wasn't totally lost on Shoto, but didn't budge his dislike for his left side, something the quirkless companion picked up on, but didn't want to pry, so he changed the subject, "So you came here with your family today?"
"Oh, yeah, my mom, sister, and brother wanted to go to this beach today before more pollution washes up on it."
"Oh yeah that is getting bad around here," Midoriya replied as he looked over to the other end of the beach, seeing a couple washed up tires, hoping that the city or townsfolk rally together before too much trash took over the piece of land.
"Did you come here with anybody?"
"No," Midoriya lowered his eyes to the sand, "Just me, my mom lets me go and play with other kids when I want to, but none of them really stick around long."
"I'm sorry to hear that."
"Thank you, but it's fine, All Might always smiles when things are bad," Midoriya looked back up from the ground, forming a big (albeit forced) smile, "If he can do it so can I!"
Shoto smiled, he couldn't help but admire Deku's determination to keep going though all his hardships, the boy had started their conversation crying but had picked himself up and dusted off the bruises like it never happened still somehow finding the strength to smile. He probably wouldn't say it out loud, but he was glad he decided to take his walk across the beach and found a kindred spirit in Izuku Midoriya.
Unbeknownst to the two of them however, Fuyumi had returned, opting to not yell again, not wanting to seem rude, despite having to interrupt their conversation as she walked up behind them, "Hey Shoto."
"Oh, hi again Fuyumi," Shoto replied still smiling as he turned his head to face her, Izuku couldn't say he had kept his cool as well as Todoroki did, his face had irrupted in a blush once more as he saw the elder Todoroki.
"Mom wants you to come back, she's getting a little worried," Fuyumi informed, her curiosity getting the best of her as she looked over to Midoriya, "So who're you?"
"U-u-uh m-me," Midoriya grew more nervous as soon as her eye's landed on him.
"I believe so unless there's a smaller child behind you," Fuyumi giggled at the boy, not to be mean by any means, just finding it cute how nervous he was; neither of them noticing that Shoto looked behind Midoriya, thinking there actually was another child there the whole time.
"I-i-I'm I-izuku Midoriya," he muttered out, his whole body shaking.
"Oh, nice to meet you," Fuyumi smiled and extended her hand to him, "I'm Fuyumi Todoroki, I'm Shoto's older sister."
Midoriya smiled back, blush still apparent but stilled himself a little, not wanting to appear as though an earthquake was going on in his body, "N-nice t-to meet you to," he reached over and took her hand, the two shaking them to become more acquainted.
"I didn't worry mom too much did I," Shoto asked with concern, as he stood up from his seating position.
"No, but she didn't want you going off too far," the girl broke her handshake, and even though they were no longer in said handshake Midoriya kept shaking his arm up and down, too transfixed to notice it ended; at least at first until he realized it, becoming a little flustered despite no one calling him out on it.
"Well I guess we should get back then," Shoto replied as he walked in the direction of their spot, Fuyumi following in toe.
"Oh, well it was nice meeting you," Midoriya waved to the two of them as they started walking, but they stopped and turned back at him in confusion.
"Aren't you coming," Shoto asked.
"Yeah, we'd be happy to have you," Fuyumi followed up.
"R-really, y-you…want me to join you?"
"Yeah, isn't that what friends do? I don't really know, I don't have any real friends," Shoto stated, his eye lids narrowing as his sister frowned at the sad fact, Midoriya stood up slowly dusting off the sand from his shorts, trying not to cry from the sheer overwhelming amount of joy he felt. Finally, after so long it seemed, being called a friend, "I-I'd be happy to," Midoriya smiled as wide as he could, walking up next to Shoto and kept pace with him as Fuyumi followed from behind, the two Todoroki's relieved and happy to hear his response.
Then Shoto broke the silence with-
"So how did he take on all those mutant bikers?"
The End.
Auhtor's Note: Shout out to Ability King KK for giving me the inspiration for this story by pointing out that Todoroki and Midoriya lived in the same neighborhood in the story "Love Blossoms in Shizuoka." I always found the idea of Midoriya meeting somebody from 1-A as a child to be pretty appealing due to his absolute garbage of a childhood and am greatful to get a spark of creativity for this story, I may even revisit the concept again if you guys want.
It may have taken a lot of time due to my power going out and a COVID-19 scare (don't worry test came back negative), but I hope you guys like this one as always and please leave a review with your thoughts and opinions on if you'd like to see a story like this again but with a different classmate of Midoriya.
Also as to why Deku didn't mention Endeavor at all, I always just rationalized that Endeavor like most pro's kept their names secret, or Endeavor just simply didn't want to be called Enji Todoroki so he didn't say his name much, that and Midoriya's an All Might fanboy primarily at this point so he probably just didn't look into Endeavor at all.
Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed, stay safe out there, and I hope you all had an amazing day.
