So I've been toying with this idea for a while and finally decided to write it. Warning, this story will be a tear-jerker.

Twelve-year-old Stephanie Rose Universe had never known her father, his gemstone had been passed to her when she had been born and he had been unable to survive without it. According to her mother, her father had spent his last half hour of life holding his newborn daughter and smiling. Stephanie had grown up her whole life hearing about how wonderful her father, Steven, had been. Stephanie would often stare at the photos around the beach house that depicted her dad, wishing she had known him. Sometime she could swear she could see his memories as she slept, but they were always fleeting and vague, sometimes she got memories from her grandmother, Pink Diamond. Stephanie once again found herself staring at the photo of her parents in her mother's room of their house in the center of Beach city, it was only about two miles from the house her father grew up in and where her grandfather lived now with the gems.

"Stephanie, sweetheart are you here?" called Connie as she came home from work, looking more like her own mother than ever.

"Yeah mom, coming," said Stephanie before running down the stairs.

"Were you staring at the pictures of your dad again?" asked Connie

"Yeah," blushed Stephanie.

"Well, I might have something that's better than those photos, here, happy birthday honey," said Connie giving her daughter a small flat package. Oh right, how could she have forgotten that today was her twelfth birthday, a day meant to be happy for her, but it was always bittersweet for her mother who she hugged tightly.

"I know you miss him, mom, why did you guys even have me if you knew he wouldn't survive?" asked Stephanie.

"The same reason his mother had him the joy of becoming a parent and bringing a new life into the world was something so extraordinary and wonderful that he wanted it more than anything, even if he'd only get to enjoy it for a fleeting moment, the present I just gave is actually from your dad, he got his powers when he was your age and wanted you to have this when you turned 12," said Connie softly. Stephanie opened the package, it was a case with a disk inside.

"What is it?" asked Stephanie, she was used to holo screens and gem tech since gems technology had been integrated into human society long before she was born. Connie laughed lightly

"It's called a DVD, your dad made it for you when we were sure that he wasn't going to survive," said Connie softly before placing it into the player under the cabinet. The screen came to life and Stephanie saw her dad on the screen, just like he looked in the pictures around the house.

Stephanie, happy twelfth birthday kiddo. You probably know that you'll be getting powers soon, or maybe you already have them, but remember this Stephanie, just because you might have the same powers as me, does not mean you have any obligation to be like me or try to replace me. You are your own person, it took me years to figure out for myself that I was not my mother, and her mistakes should never have had to be fixed by me. I did my best not to leave any mistakes behind because I do not want you to ever have to go through what I went through as a child if I missed any then I am so sorry sweetheart, but they are not your responsibility to fix, my mistakes are not yours I want you to be yourself because you are so perfect and wonderful just the way you are, you are not Pink Diamond, You are not Rose Quartz, and you are not me, you are Stephanie Rose Universe, you decide who that is, and remember, daddy loves you so much.

The screen went black and Stephanie noticed she was crying.

"That's what his voice sounded like?" she asked after a few moments. Her mother nodded with a sad smile before giving her another package.

"I think it's time I gave this to you, it belonged to your dad when he was 16 and he always wore it from then on, I've kept it for you because I know pink is your favorite color," said Connie with a sad smile. Stephanie opened the package and found her father's bright pink varsity jacket. She grinned and put it on. Connie looked at her.

"You look more and more like your father every day," said Connie fondly.

"Thanks, mom," said Stephanie

"How about you go visit your friends before the party later, and make sure you go see Aunt Bismuth and Aunt Pearl, they have something for you at the forge they said," said Connie

"Ok, see ya later mom, love you," said Stephanie hugging her mom and running out the door towards the city that was a lasting legacy of her dad, Little Homeworld.
