A long time ago, in a distant land seemingly untouched by time, there lived a great martial artist named Gohan who one day discovered a most unusual young boy, a boy with a tail. The old master took the boy in as his own, naming him Goku, and watched in amazement as the boy grew in strength. However, not too long after, Gohan passed away and Goku was left on his own as the sole protector of his grandfather's most prized possession; his dragon ball.

Goku was beaming with pride at the large fish he had gotten and was ecstatic to take it back. As he made his way back home, he happily greeted the animals he passed by in the forest.

Suddenly, an apple fell from a tree and hit him hard on the head. He looked up, but didn't see anything other than apples, so he figured it was just a loose apple. But just as he was heading on his way, he was hit with two more apples to the head.

He looked up again and again, there was nothing up in the tree, though he did hear something moving through the branches. He immediately dismissed it though as a squirrel or a bird.

But what fell next from the tree was not a squirrel or a bird, but a girl, who with both feet, landed on top of Goku's head before leaping off and landing on her feet next to him.

"Ow! Hey, Chi Chi!" Goku said, rubbing his head.

"Fish again, Goku?" Chi Chi sighed.

"My stomach was saying 'fish' today," Goku answered with a smile.

"Your 'stomach' has been saying fish for over a week now. Mine is saying, 'if I have any more fish, I'm gonna turn into one,'" Chi Chi.

Goku tilted his head in confusion. "That can happen?" he asked.

In response, Chi Chi knocked Goku on the head. "No, you dummy," she said.

Chi Chi then leaped up into the tree and kicked down multiple apples, electing to have those for today instead of fish.

"Aww, but I don't want apples," Goku protested.

"Come on, Goku. Have something different for once!" Chi Chi contested.

"But the fish is already here! Why let it go to waste?!" Goku argued.

"Can't you just have it tomorrow?!" Chi Chi argued in response.

"No, I want it now!" Goku whined.

Chi Chi groaned in annoyance. "Ugh, you're such a baby! Fine! You have the fish, I'll have the apples," she suggested.

Another big smile came on Goku's face. "Sounds good to me," he said with a chuckle.

Chi Chi knew there was no reasoning with Goku when it came to his appetite. Sometimes she wondered why she even bothered. Still, she couldn't keep an argument with a cute face like that. Goku was like a little brother to her; an annoying, pain-in-the-neck brother at times, but a brother nonetheless.

After gathering a bunch of apples in her arms, Chi Chi and Goku were ready to head home when suddenly, Chi Chi halted and stopped him.

"Oh, wait. Goku, I think you forgot something," Chi Chi said.

"What?" Goku said, looking around.

"This," Chi Chi answered, running ahead of him.

"Hey! No fair!" Goku said running after her.

Not too long after living on his own, the young boy, Goku, was met by an equally young girl named Chi Chi, who had lost her father. Since then, the two have shared the same home and have become the very best of friends.

It didn't take long for him to catch up with her as the two kids raced across the valley with Goku quickly gaining the lead. After passing her, Goku turned his head to Chi Chi and gave a smile before sticking his tongue out at her, much to her annoyance. Of the many times they raced, Chi Chi never once beat Goku, but aside from Goku's taunting, it didn't really bother her and she liked the challenge.

During the race, they hopped across boulders and tree branches, even outrunning a saber tooth tiger before eventually making it back home Goku again being the winner.

He placed his fish on the ground before jumping in victory.

"If it wasn't for that saber tooth tiger, I would've beaten you this time," Chi Chi panted.

"Yeah right," Goku chuckled.

"I was at least a couple inches behind you!" Chi Chi protested.

"More like a few feet," Goku retorted.

"Ugh, whatever," Chi Chi huffed, before heading into the small house.

Goku followed behind.

Later on, after making a fire, the two gobbled down their respective meals. Chi Chi didn't have as big an appetite as Goku, but when she was hungry, anyone with two eyes could tell.

Stomachs full, the two kids lay on the ground and stared up at the sky. When Chi Chi wasn't doing chores or competing with Goku, she liked doing this from time to time. Though she wasn't that good at reading clouds, it was relaxing to her and a good way to pass the time. Plus, she knew was at least better at it than Goku and this was at least something she could best him at. Obviously for Goku, it wasn't really his thing, mainly because he wasn't very good at reading clouds either. He just did it cause Chi Chi liked it, though he didn't find it too boring.

Chi Chi pointed Goku in the direction of one cloud and challenged him to guess what it looked like.

As hard as he tried, he couldn't make a guess, much to Chi Chi's amusement.

"It kinda looks like a bird," she guessed.

Before Goku could even process it, she immediately looked for another cloud and brought his attention to it. Yet again, Goku just couldn't make a guess, scratching his head in frustration while Chi Chi just giggled.

No matter how many times she saw it, she never got tired of watching Goku lose his cool.

"That one looks a bit like a...mountain,' she guessed.

Just then, her happy expression died down and she turned her head to the fire.

Goku was ready to try and guess another one when he noticed her. "Hey, Chi Chi, is something the matter?" he asked.

Chi Chi quickly turned to him in response. "Huh? Oh, it's nothing, Goku. I was just...thinking about home...and my dad," she answered.

Chi Chi had only mentioned her father a few times in the three months they had lived together. Sure, she had told him about his death when she met him, but not much, if not anything after that.

Since she had brought it up again, Goku was admittedly curious. "What was your dad like?" he asked.

Chi Chi sighed. She figured it was only a matter of time before Goku started asking questions and knowing how stubborn he was, chances are he wasn't going to let up. "He was a mighty king; he was called the OX King," she began.

"Was he strong?" Goku immediately asked.

"He was very strong! Nobody could beat my dad! He was the most powerful warrior there ever was! He could lift mountains with his bare hands and everything!" Chi Chi exclaimed.

Goku was taken a back a bit by what Chi Chi was saying. "Gee...I wish I could've had a chance to fight him!" he exclaimed.

Chi Chi was flabbergasted at Goku's gall. "You wouldn't have stood a chance against my dad!" she protested.

"I bet I would!" Goku countered.

"Dream on! He'd squash you like a bug!" Chi Chi argued.

"Would not!" Goku retorted.

Chi Chi quickly stood to her feet. "Oh yeah?! I'm his daughter, so I bet I could beat you!" she said.

"But you've never beaten me," Goku pointed out.

"Hey, there's a first time for everything," Chi Chi said with confidence. "Whaddya say, Goku? Wanna spar?"

Goku wasn't the kind to resist a sparring match, so of course he accepted.

In front of the house, the two young fighters stood across from one another.

This was one of many matches they had together. Being alone together in the wilderness gave them time to practice their fighting skills.

After taking a couple of deep breaths, they got into their fighting stances and circled around a bit before beginning.

They started off blocking each others punches and kicks in rapid succession. Chi Chi went for a slide at Goku's legs, but he jumped up and back flipped to get some distance.

Chi Chi then charged after him, but then Goku got her with a kick to the gut, knocking her down.

Goku went for a stomp, but Chi Chi leaped out of the way, rebounded off a tree, and got him with a kick to the face. She then went for a punch, but Goku leapfrogged over her, much to her annoyance.

"You'll have to do better than that," Goku teased.

"Count on it!" Chi Chi said in response, wailing on Goku with a series of punches which he dodged.

He then leaped over her again and kicked her in the back of the head.

The two traded blows again before Chi Chi nailed him with a sweep kick, followed by a roundhouse kick to the head. She went for another kick, but he ducked under it and got her with an uppercut, followed by a high knee to the face, then a couple of kicks to the gut, knocking her down, though she quickly got back up.

As the fight continued, Goku and Chi Chi found themselves at the side of a nearby cliff. As they traded blows, they both jumped off the side and began running down, fighting each other while doing so until they fell into the river.

Holding their breaths, they continued fighting underwater. Chi Chi went for a dropkick, but Goku dodged and got her with an ax handle to her head. But Chi Chi responded with a punch to the face, to which Goku responded with a kick to the head. Chi Chi then grabbed Goku by his leg and seismic tossed him out of the river. She then jumped out after, but then Goku monkey flipped her into a nearby bush.

Chi Chi emerged with her hair covered in leafs and twigs, much to Goku's amusement. Chi Chi growled in frustration before going back on the attack.

After more fighting, they found themselves in the forest, leaping over branches.

"Hehe, catch me if you can, Chi Chi!" Goku teased.

"You better hope I don't catch you, dork!" Chi Chi responded.

Goku jumped up into the canopy with Chi Chi following suit. However, once above, Chi Chi looked around and found no sign of Goku, growling in aggravation. Just then, she heard a sound coming from below the canopy and went to investigate. From the branches, she saw rustling from some leafs in one of the trees. Assuming it to be Goku, she quickly rushed over.

But again, she found nothing. This was rather confusing. If Goku wasn't there, then where could he have possibly gone?

The answer came as from behind, Goku got Chi Chi with a kick, knocking her out of the tree. As she fell Goku pulled out his power pull; a long red stick, and threw it towards her, going through her shirt.

"Power Pull, extend!" he shouted.

With those words, his weapon of choice grew in length, sticking to the ground with Chi Chi sliding down the pole.

As hard as she struggled, she just couldn't get free.

With a jovial smile, Goku landed in front of her. "Hehe, I win again!" he bragged.

While at first aggravated, a small smile came across Chi Chi's face and eventually, the two shared a laugh.

Though she did lose all the time to Goku, she actually didn't mind it much. Especially since she felt with each match she came that much closer to beating him.

After another of many days of chores and training, the day was growing dark and both Chi Chi and Goku grew tired and decided to call it a day. Every day, Chi Chi made especially sure that Goku was indoors before it got too dark.

Goku slept in a small bed under the back window and Chi Chi in a corner near the front door.

After she tucked herself in, Chi Chi stared up at the ceiling. Every now and again at this time, memories of her father tucking her in, telling her stories, tickling her, came into her thoughts. She then looked to Goku covering himself up, just about to ready to go to sleep.

"Hey, Goku? Do you ever wonder if your parents are still alive?" she asked.

"Huh? You mean grandpa?" Goku asked confused.

"No, I mean your other parents. Your mom and dad? Do you ever...think about them?" she asked.

Admittedly, Chi Chi had been curious about this ever since she starting living with Goku. She knew he once lived with his grandpa who found him in the woods, but he never once told her about his other parents, though she did much though to actually asking him since she didn't talk much about her father.

"Not really," Goku answered bluntly.

"Are you sure? Not even once," Chi Chi asked curiously.

"Well no. I never knew them, just my grandpa," Goku answered.

"You mean you've never tried looking for them even once? Did you ever ask your grandpa about them?" asked Chi Chi.

"No. I was happy with Grandpa and that was all I needed," answered Goku, pulling the covers over him and laying his head down.

Chi Chi felt slightly doltish having asked. It wasn't really that much of a surprise, considering his upbringing. If she had been raised by someone other than her real father for so long, she probably wouldn't have given much thought to it either. With that, she lay herself down to sleep when Goku turned to her.

"What about your mom?" he asked.

Chi Chi paused for a second before slowly pulling the covers over her head. "Not much to tell. She died when I was only a baby," she said bluntly.

"Oh..." Goku responded softly. "Do you ever think about her?"

Chi Chi paused for a moment, then stared up at the ceiling again. "Yes," she said with slight sadness.

Soon after, Goku fell asleep, but Chi Chi remained awake. Truthfully, she hadn't thought much of her mother either until Goku mentioned her. Like Goku, she only knew her father and never her mother. But every now and again, she couldn't help but think about her, specifically with her father, and think about all of them together as as family, and wish that there was somehow someway she could turn back the clock and change things from what they were to what she wanted.
