It was an early morning on the Island of Sodor, Emily was taking a local passenger train to Crovan's Gate. When dropping off the passengers, she ran into Sir Handel; she had never met the little engine. "Hello I'm Emily, who are you?" asked Emily, "I'm Sir Handel!" the little blue engine growled. Emily didn't expect this, especially from a Skarloey Railway engine (aside from Duncan). "I'm-I'm sorry to have bothered you," shuddered Emily, "Why are you so cross?" "Why am I? Because you came 30 minutes late! You know I have a schedule to keep up with?" Sir Handel grumbled. Emily starting to loose her patience then the guards whistle blew and Sir Handel puffed away. "What a rude engine!" Emily murmured.
When Emily chuffed into the sheds for a rest Thomas was there and saw Emily was agitated. "What's the matter?" asked Thomas, "You happen to know a little blue engine-" "me?" Thomas asked. "No not you Sir Handel!" Emily said crossly. "Oooh, Sir Handel?" Thomas laughed, "Don't worry about him he complains about everything and anything he can to get out of work! It's best not to listen to that sour pot." However, Emily wasn't sure whether or not to take Sir Handel seriously.
The next day she came early to Crovan's Gate with some vans containing fruit and vegetables; Sir Handel came with some vans about 5 minutes later. "You came here early, but the faster you get here the more I won't have to deal with these trucks!" Sir Handel grumbled as the trucks laughed. "Hurry up with unloading the trucks," he scowled at some workmen. "They are just doing their jobs Sir Handel, why do you have to be so rude?" asked Emily. "Why did you loose a giant globe or take dirty laundry?" retorted Sir Handel "You know Duncan has told me a lot about you." Emily felt hurt being reminded of those incidents. "I dunno Sir Handel," said a voice, "Why do you you have to be rude to poor Emily?" It was the Thin Controller as well as the Fat Controller. Sir Handel tried to run off but he passed a red signal and collided into a coal line of coal cars that Duke had been pulling. "Falcon!" Duke snapped. "I know I know 'that would never suit his grace' I get it," Sir Handel said.

"I don't appreciate other engines treating my engines badly," scolded the Fat Controller to Sir Handel. "He is most certainly right," the Thin Controller added, "You will stay in the sheds until you have learned to be a more respectful engine or you will work at the quarry for the rest of the summer!" "Yes sirs, sorry sirs," said Sir Handel.
3 days later Emily saw Sir Handel at Crovan's Gate once again. "Hey Emily, I want to apologize for the way I was," Sir Handel said sadly, "I was not a respectful engine and because you I want to try to change my ways." "Oh well," Emily said sweetly, "The past is the past, how about we put all this behind us and maybe we can form an alliance?" Sir Handel smiled, "Sure, let's give it a shot!"
Sir Handel and Emily are good friends now despite Sir Handel still being somewhat grumpy at times. It seemed odd to the other engines for Sir Handel and Emily to be friends but they had found their own groove to make things work out.
The end!
