Chapter 1
Disclaimer ~ I do not own Percy Jackson
Percy was having the best dream ever. A whole world made up of blue cookies. It was his Elysium. Too bad he wasn't allowed to stay in Morpheus' realm. A sharp zap of electricity had him jolting into a battle ready stance before he was even aware he was awake.
Thalia stood over to the side, revealing that she was behind the rude awakening. "Finally!" the daughter of Zeus exclaimed. "You're impossible to wake up," she told him.
"That's cause I was dreaming about cookie nirvana," Percy told his cousin as he looked around. One thing was for certain, he wasn't in the Poseidon cabin any more. Instead, it looked like he was in some sort of theatre room. All kinds of couches and chairs were set up, facing a large TV.
The next thing Percy noticed was the sleeping forms of his friends. Other than Percy and Thalia, everyone was asleep in various places around the room. What Percy saw made him wish he had a camera.
Annabeth was sprawled on one of the beanbags. She looked adorable, especially with her hair a mess like that.
Will and Nico were curled up together on one of the couches. Will had his arms wrapped around Nico, who was laying on top of him. Nico had Will's shirt in a death grip and seemed to be trying to absorb as much warmth from Will as he could.
Then there was Jason, who was half falling off the side of a chair. He was sitting on the arm and looked like a nudge was all it would take to send him to the ground.
Piper was curled into a ball in the remaining space of the chair and almost seemed to be trying to push Jason off. Her feet were in prime position to knock the son of Zeus off the chair.
Hazel was in a similar position on a different chair. Curled into a ball and taking up most of the chair. Though there wasn't anybody to push off of it.
Frank was sleeping on the floor directly in front of Hazel's chair. To Percy, it looked like one of those scenarios where the guy toughs it out on the ground so the girl can have the bed.
Next was Grover, who seemed to be in process of sleep eating the beanbag he had for a pillow.
It was the final couple that Percy found behind Will and Nico's couch that truly shocked Percy. The first was Leo, who Percy had thought died. The Latino had one arm wrapped around the girl who was using his chest as a pillow. The girl took a moment for Percy to recognize. It was Calypso!
"What the hell?!" Percy yelled in shock. His yell had the benefit of waking up most of the others. All except for Nico (who was still asleep) and Will (who was trapped underneath Nico) did what Percy had done and took up battle ready positions. It was a reflex honed partly by demigod instincts and partly by being pranked by the Stolls.
After seeing no obvious threat, the recently awakened people relaxed and did their own surveys of the room. One by one, their eyes fell on Leo, who was looking more and more nervous by the second.
"Uhh. Hey guys," Leo said with a nervous wave. A glance was all Percy needed to know that Annabeth was pissed. A second glance told him that she wasn't the only one. Jason, Piper, and surprisingly Hazel looked outright murderous. Everyone else looked a mix between mad and relieved. An odd combination if you asked Percy.
"Before you kill Leo, I want to warn you. You wake him up and I prove to you why I'm one of the few campers the Stolls won't prank," Will whispered to them, nodding his head to the still asleep Nico. Leo gulped in fear at the looks his friends were giving him.
Luckily for him, before anybody could do anything, a door was opened. Everyone's attention turned to the figure that walked through it.
It was a girl with dark red hair pulled into a pony tail. She was wearing a grey baseball cap, blue jeans, and a t-shirt with a cat napping and dreaming about fish.
"Please don't kill anyone. It's a pain to clean up all the blood," the girl said.
"What if we don't leave any blood?" Piper asked, shooting a dark look back at Leo. The son of Hephaestus did the smart thing...and ducked behind Calypso.
"I'd still prefer it if you left Leo alive. I wouldn't have brought him here if he wasn't important," the girl said.
"Wait YOU brought us here? Why? Where is here? And who are you?" Annabeth asked quickly.
"My name is Akira. This is Room 3 of the theatre, though it will be a Reading Room instead of a theatre while you all are here. As for why I brought you all here...you are going to read some books about yourselves," Akira said.
"Books about us?" Frank asked in confusion. Akira nodded.
"The first five are mostly just about Percy, though several of you play key roles in the story as well. The other five are about the seven from the prophecy. In a sense, you could say that the first series covers the second titan war and the second series covers the giant war," Akira explained.
"Why me?" Percy groaned. Akira smiled, though it was more of a smirk.
"Because you have been in two great prophecies and have saved the world many times. Don't worry, you aren't the only one who we will hear about in these books. In fact, you aren't even in the sixth book you all will read. You're only mentioned. The main characters of that story are Jason, Piper, and Leo," Akira answered. Percy sighed deeply.
"Joy."
"But why do you want us to read these books in the first place?" Annabeth asked. She looked as upset by the news as Percy felt.
"I've always been a fan of the 'characters learn their series' troupe. The Percy Jackson series is one of my favorite series as well. I figured it would be a good idea to start my little experiment with you guys. See, most of the other series I want to do, I have to do a lot more prep work before anything will be ready. With you all, I can just jump right in. The prep work is basically finished, I just need to edit a few things, which won't take long. By the time you actually get to that point, I'll have it finished. All you guys have to do is read the books out loud to each other. I'm thinking one person reads one chapter then passes it to the next person. This will continue until all ten books have been read. Don't worry though! I'll be providing you all with food and beds and such while you're here. Once you finish reading, I'll put you back at the exact moment I took you from. No time will have passed in your world," Akira told them.
"So basically we stay here and read some books, then return to our lives as if we never left?" Jason asked. He, like Percy and Annabeth, was suspicious.
"Yes. I'm not like Hera. When I return you, only a few seconds will have passed, and you will keep all of your memories of your time here," Akira said. Just then, her watch beeped like an alarm was going off. Akira blinked and hit a button, stopping the noise.
"It looks like it's time for me to take my leave. I have an appointment with some vikings. I'll be back to collect you for meals and to lead you to your sleeping quarters, though it looks like Nico isn't having any problems where he is," she said with a laugh. Sure enough, Nico was still out cold on top of Will. He hadn't moved more than a twitch the whole time they've been talking. "Can I trust you to fill him in once he wakes up?" Akira asked.
"Of course," Will answered without hesitation, causing Akira's smile to widen.
"I have breakfast for you guys scheduled in two hours. You can do whatever you want until then. Feel free to rearrange the seats however you want. If Nico wakes, you are more than welcome to start the reading. Or you can catch up on your own sleep. I feel a bit bad about that actually. I've gotten so used to dealing with japanese people that I forgot about the time difference before I brought you here. That's why everyone except Thalia was asleep when you arrived," Akira explained. Everyone awake promptly looked at Thalia, who nodded.
"I was on a hunt," Thalia said. Akira's watch started beeping again, faster than before. Akira silenced it once more.
"Okay I really need to get going. There's a bathroom through the green doors over there. The book is on the table for when you want to start. I'll be back in two hours to get you for breakfast. Please don't leave the room unless escorted by me. There are other guests staying here and I don't want to chance a crossover. Bye!" With that, Akira hurried out the door she came in from, closing it behind her.
"So that just happened," Leo said breaking the silence that had fallen over the group.
"I don't like this," Percy announced, saving Leo from Piper's renewed glare.
"You just don't like that we're reading about you specifically Seaweed Brain," Annabeth said, rolling her eyes.
"Can you blame me?" Percy asked. Annabeth sighed and wrapped her arms around Percy.
"No. I don't like it either. But this is a good opportunity. Most of the people here have no idea what we went through, and if reading about those events will help them understand, I'm willing to do it. We can take it one book at a time and go from there," Annabeth said. Percy smiled at his girlfriend. He leaned down and placed a quick kiss on her lips.
"If you say so Wise Girl," Percy said.
"That's sweet and all but are we really going to ignore Leo coming back from the dead?" Jason asked. Will snorted from his place on the couch.
"Percy has crashed his own funeral before so I'm not all that surprised. And Nico has never felt Leo's soul in otherworld so we've had our suspicions," Will said.
"Why didn't you say anything to us?" Piper asked.
"Partly because there's never been a chance, partly because we've been recovering from everything, and partly because we only figured this out a couple weeks ago," Will replied.
"I didn't die. I mean, I probably would have if it wasn't for Festus but I didn't die. I landed on this island where I met Calypso!" Leo gestured to the girl at his side, who had been studying Percy closely since they all woke up. Percy returned her stare silently as everyone who wasn't aware of the story (aka everyone except Annabeth and Grover) looked between the two. Percy chuckled awkwardly.
"I'm glad you were able to leave Oogiya," Percy said. Calypso finally broke her neutral expression, giving Percy a small smile. She bowed her head at him.
"I have you to thank for that. You kept your promise," she said. Leo blinked in confusion.
"What did I miss? You two know each other?" he asked.
"Don't worry Leo. We are merely friends," Calypso said, taking one of Leo's hands in her own. Percy smiled at that.
"Besides, it will probably be explained in the books. I'm definitely curious to hear about it myself," Annabeth said, smirking at Percy.
"Then what are we waiting for? We have a couple hours before Akira will come back. We could always start reading now," Frank suggested.
"We could. But there's just one problem," Hazel laughed, pointing at her brother.
"Will, could you please wake him up?" Annabeth asked. Will nodded. "Thanks. When he's awake, fill him in on what's happening," Annabeth instructed. Will nodded again and started whispering something to Nico that none of them (except maybe Grover) could hear.
"While they do that, let's move some furniture," Percy said clapping his hands. He smirked at the groans from his friends. After fighting titans, giants, and all kinds of monsters, you'd think a normal and simple task like moving a couch would be met with more enthusiasm.
It only took a couple minutes to arrange the furniture in a way that everyone was happy with. Percy and Annabeth would be sharing a couch. Next to them on the floor with a couple giant beanbags was Grover. Then Nico and Will would share the couch they were currently on. Thalia was beside them on one of the recliners. Next to her, Jason and Piper were sharing a loveseat. Leo and Calypso were following Grover's example of several giant bean bags on the floor. Lastly, Frank and Hazel had their own loveseat. They had arranged themselves in a circle around the coffee table where the book was placed. The furniture was placed close together so it would be easier for everyone to talk, but not too close so that they felt crowded. The beanbags helped with that because they could be more inside the circle while the couches made up the outside.
Once everyone had gotten settled down and comfy, aided by a closet full of pillows and blankets Thalia had found, Grover spoke up.
"Who's gonna read first?" the satyr asked.
"I think Percy should, since the books are about him," Frank suggested. Nobody had any argument against this, so Percy sighed and picked up the book. The son of Poseidon opened it to the first page and blinked in surprise.
"I can read this!" Percy exclaimed. "It's in Greek."
"Really?" Annabeth asked, leaning over to see for herself. "Huh. It is," she said.
"What's the title?" Hazel asked curiously.
"Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief," Percy read.
And that concludes chapter 1! Normally I'm against OCs but I figured I could use Akira in other Reading/Watching the series fics that I plan to do so I went with her. She'll only show up for breaks and such though. This is a little pet project of mine that I've wanted to do for a long while now. I picked only the main characters, plus Will and Calypso, so that I didn't have so many characters to keep track of. Although I might add more characters in the future. It just depends.
By the time I post this, I hope to have at least one or two chapters of the actual reading ready to post with it. I finished this chapter 02/12/2020 so let's see how long it takes before I actually post it.
I'm going to have the Reading Chapters done in the normal style. Actual lines from the book in bold and the comments in normal text. I do not own any of the actual series. I'm just doing it this way so as to make it easier for everyone. I've read a few fics where it didn't have any actual text, which made it a little hard to follow. Some comments only really work with the actual text. Think of this as my disclaimer, just in case. But since I'm doing the text in bold, I'm having my ANs be underlined (if it wasn't obvious by this point) to make it easier to differentiate.
I think that's all I have left to say, so here's the normal speech. Please Review, Follow, and Favorite! I hope you all enjoy this fic and stick with it until the end!
