2The Skarloey Railway is one of the most popular destinations on the Island of Sodor. However, there can be a lot of work for the narrow gauge engines; even more than the standard gauge engines at times.
One day, the Thin Controller went to see Duncan in the sheds. "Duncan I need you to work in Strawberry Grove with Duke and Rheneas for the next 2 weeks. There is a lot of goods work that needs to be done that they can't handle," said the Thin Controller. "What?" asked Duncan in confusion, "Why can't Peter Sam? He would love that!" "Peter Sam is far too busy with the refreshment lady and will be for a while so that's why I chose you," replied the Thin Controller. Duncan was very cross, the reason he didn't want to work in Strawberry Grove was because of when he lost his whistle in 2002.
Rheneas and Duke were happy to see him when he arrived. "Hello Duncan!" said Rheneas, "There is a lot work needed to be done with these trucks but we are glad you are here to help," Duke said. "Yeah yeah yeah, I get it," Duncan said rudely, "Where's my trucks? I wanna get my work done and fast!" Rheneas led Duncan to his trucks then Duncan headed off. The trucks (which were mostly slate) sang about him and his rock and roll, "CLICKITY CLACK! DON'T LOOK BACK! ROCK AND ROLLER IS ON OUR TRACK!" "Be quiet your filthy trucks!," shouted Duncan as he bumped the trucks hard. To say the trip went bad fast was an understatement. Duke and Rheneas saw Duncan throughout the day and were shocked by his behavior.
Once nightfall came Duncan pulled into the sheds next to Duke and Rheneas, they were cross. "What are you staring at me for?" Duncan asked. "Oh knock it off Duncan! You know what this is about!" said Rheneas sharply. "I know you had a difficult experience in Strawberry Grove in the past and hate dealing with trucks but this is not the way you should be dealing with your experiences," added Duke. "Bah Humbug! You too are just brainless steamers with little to no knowledge of how to deal with trucks! Goodnight!" growled Duncan.
The next day Duncan was worse than ever! He biffed and bashed the trucks even if they were being good, that was a huge mistake! Sir Handel at the end of the line had tourists taking photos in Strawberry Grove, Duncan saw the train up ahead and slowed down angerly. The slate trucks Duncan were taking (which was about 10) had other ideas to pay him out. The trucks gave Duncan a huge push! the tourists got out of Sir Handels train to take photos and good thing too!
*insert crash sound effects here*
Duncan demolished the breakvan on Sir Handels train as he was severely damaged with his funnel being almost snapped in half like Peter Sam's funnel after the 1994 slate truck accident he had. Sir Handel looked in shock from behind! "Du-Duncan?!" he stuttered. The mess was cleaned up as Duke and Rheneas got the works unit and Breakdown train, the Thin Controller arrived and was furious! "DUNCAN! What in the name of Michael Angelis happened here?!" he bellowed. "I guess you could say it was my fault," said Duncan sheepishly. Duke and Rheneas explained the whole thing about Duncan's behavior towards the trucks and his past experiences in Strawberry Grove. "Duncan," said the Thin Controller, "I can understand your past experiences but you should have talked to me about it instead of taking your anger out on Duke and Rheneas as well as the slate trucks!" "I'm sorry," Duncan said to them. "After you are repaired, you will work in Strawberry Grove and with the troublesome trucks until you have learned to behave!" The Thin Controller said sternly.
Duncan worked in Strawberry Grove and hated working with the trucks but he did behave better with them as well as Rheneas and Duke.
