Robert Langdon is one of those people who were infected from a new virus called Covid-19. If only he had watched the news about not trying to travel from New Hampshire to Italy as a vacation spot, then he would never have gotten the virus in the first place. Now, he's in a nearby hospital awaiting quarantine.
How did he ended up in this situation?
He recalled in his mind that prior to his admission he is last seen with groceries, having already learned the outbreak from the news. The reason he bought those items is for his own survival. Just then, he saw someone running towards him but the runner didn't know whom he ran into. Luckily, Langdon avoided him, knowing fully well that he must avoid being in contact with someone or lest having contracted with the disease. Anyway, he successfully went back to his apartment in Italy. During the first two days, he's doing okay to keep himself busy during the quarantine.
During the third day, he suddenly found himself dry cough and fever. At first he thought of this as normal as he believed he will get better in two or three days, but he still found himself ill. That's when he realized he contracted Covid-19. He wondered how did he get the disease by retracing his steps when he returned to his apartment. Before going home, he felt tired that he attempted to wipe his sweat by the lamppost.
The lamppost...
He realized that the lamppost is most likely where the virus must have stuck itself to. How could he got himself so careless?
Not that it matters now since he is now in a hospital, awaiting recovery. If he has any chances to recover from it, that is.
"How long this is gonna take?" Langdon asked, lying down in his hospital bed as a doctor came by.
"It depends on how long can your body fight this disease," the doctor replied in an honest voice. "Don't worry, you're in our care, Mr. Langdon. I'm sure you'll get better soon."
Langdon responds with a nod. He is relief to hear this. At least Sienna didn't have to live to learn of this disease.
Sienna...
He recalled spending time with her in Italy to investigate Zobrist's virus, then he felt sick from remembering her betrayal. It stung him, but he didn't let it deter him. In fact, he didn't have any hard feelings on it as he remembered trying to stop her from unleashing the plague without being angry or calling her out for what she had done.
What would have happened if Sienna had lived through their final confrontation to learn about Covid-19?
That's one question Langdon will never know the answer as she died trying to activate the bomb manually through the waters. As he recalled seeing her corpse in the body bag; although he may not see it, he could tell that her face has been burnt to crisp from the explosion. That would mean she had died being ugly from trying to activate the plague manually despite the remote control to release it had been disabled.
The only bright side in his current crisis is that she didn't live to see this new disease. Langdon wouldn't be happy if Sienna lived to be one of those who contracted the Covid-19.
He closed his eyes, resting peacefully.
Two weeks later...
Langdon left the airplane that departed from Italy to New Hampshire. It is good to be home. He took a deep breath of fresh air, relief that he recovered from the virus. Despite this, the world still has its enhanced quarantine. The first thing he did is to buy groceries to survive the outbreak, and he went back to his apartment. It's still clean as he remembered before leaving for Italy.
He can only wait on what will his future be when Covid-19 has been defeated.
Author's Note: My second fanfic related to Covid-19. It shows the cruel irony from watching the movie, Inferno regarding two things: 1.) the Covid-19 pandemic has caused a lot of deaths in Italy, and 2.) Tom Hanks, the actor who portrayed Langdon, is one of those infected with the virus. On the bright side, he has recovered from it.
