Chapter 1: Left behind

The green flu epidemic was spreading faster than anyone could've predicted, while its origins and means of release whether they accidental or on purpose was unknown to anyone, but one thing that was certain is that the impact of the green flu virus was being felt far and wide... the north side of the united states was all but a dead zone, the infected everywhere you could think of. The infected people only sort to find and kill anyone who wasn't infected themselves and they had all but accomplished that save for a few exceptions, now however things were taking a turn for the worst as the south side of the states began to succumb to the deadly virus, doctors and even CEDA had tried everything to contain it... but they had all but failed. Now with the exception of very few places... no where in America was safe from the spreading pandemic, if you weren't immune you succumbed to the virus and became one of the infected... if you were lucky you died early on instead of being hunted down and killed by infected, those who had survived were all but scattered around various states and places. The few that remained now sort to find an evacuation outpost as quickly as possible before there was none left at all, wether it be for better or for worse... humanity was reaching a critical stage in its life cycle and the green flu was a prime example of that, whether humanity lived long enough to find a cure or vaccine or not... remained to be seen.

A building in the Savannahs in Georgia burned furiously as infected mindlessly stumbled around the various floors of the hotel building, some of them stupidly walking into the fires themselves or bashing down doors and causing the fires to spread further and further as a helicopter sat on the roof of the building several humans climbing into the back as a military officer wielding a rifle ensured no one was left behind. Once he was certain he had accounted for everyone he motioned with a thumbs up for the helicopter pilot to begin take off as the back doors closed, the propellers spun into life, spinning faster and faster as the engines grew stronger by the second, the whole area shaking as the large vehicle began to ascend from the roof as a door leading up to the roof shot open as four survivors out of breathe and tired beyond believe stumbled onto the roof.

The first of these was the oldest and largest member of the team, a middle aged black man who wore trainers with grey coloured trousers with a purple and yellow short sleeved shirt with the letters FHS on it, his head was bald and he stubble growing on his face, his eyes looking shocked as the helicopter ascended from the roof and left them behind. He was a defensive linesman for his local football team before a knee injury ended his career, once that was over with he became a health teacher at the local high school... that was until the green flu epidemic hit and now he was simply a survivor like the other 3 people around him, now he had a new goal in mind survive long enough to make out of the hell hole he was in, in his hands was a chrome pump action shotgun he had looted from a cop car on his way here. The second person was the youngest of the 4 a young white male who wore work boots on his feet with overalls on that he tied around his waist instead of wearing fully with a yellow bull shifters shirt on underneath and finally a forward facing blue cap with a truck symbol on it on his head, he was born and raised in the Savannahs and ran an auto shop in the area with a few of his buddies and was always drop by to his mothers house on Sundays for supper. While he may have been rather young and perhaps a bit naive to the world view and current outlook, he was more determined then ever to stay alive by any means necessary, he held in his hands a rather rusted down axe that he had salvaged from his workshop on his way here. His hair brown short and well kept under his hate and his eyes wide and shocked as the helicopter left them behind.

The third of these survivors was a man not much older than the on before him, stumbling onto the roof and out of breathe, he wore a full tailored white suit with a blue shirt underneath with designer shoes on, his jet black hair rather neat as he had a few scratch marks on his neck, as well as multiple rings on his fingers, the nice look was a Sharad of course as the man before them was nothing more than a con artist with a shady, perhaps even violent past, who knows. Drifting from city to city and joining back alley card games and getting into all sorts of trouble with the law, Nick had 2 values he stood by, trust no one and always look out for number one, unfortunately the green flu had forced him to alter his plans as he now found himself on a rooftop of a burning building with 3 people he knew nothing about, in his hands he held a PP220 pistol and a Glock pistol he had taken from a corpse when he first arrived in the Savvanh on his way here for an evac. Finally in front of him was the only woman of the group who was in her late 20s, and dark in skin colour, she wore blue jeans with brown boots that went just below her knees, a pink Depeche mode shirt that was short sleeved and had wavy black hair tied back into a bun. She worked for a big name news company mostly as a low tier worker before staff began to call in sick, giving her a big break when she was tasked with covering the evacuation of Savannah, but he story became a war zone and she was forced to run and try and find evac herself as people around her started going crazy, she held in her hand a large desert cobra magnum pistol, she had taken from the body of a dead military personnel she had stumbled across on the way up to the roof. She seemed horrified that she had been left behind with 3 complete strangers and shouted desperately for the helicopter to come back as did the others all waving their hands.

"God damnit we just missed it" the man in the suit cursed, "damnit he aint coming back" the football coach said frowning and kicking his foot in the air as he realised they were now stranded on the roof of the building that they were on, "oh shit they did not just leave us on this god damn roof!" the woman said annoyed as the helicopter grew smaller and smaller in the sky. "Ok helicopters don't come back when you yell at them, now we know" the man in the suit said, "god damn whirly bird left without us" the mechanic said a sad look on his face, "ok one stop calling it a whirly bird, its a helicopter and 2 I don't like being in buildings that are on fire" the suit said frowning as he heard screams and angry shouting from the floors below. "What the heck is that chopper doing?" the football man asked not knowing what was going on, "oh I think there is an evac station at the mall" the woman said as the man in the suit quickly became frustrated, "hey loud girl, hey seed, tons of fun, this building is on fire, grab a weapon and lets get the hell out of here!" he shouted as the woman looked at him shocked and annoyed at his rudeness. "I AM NOT... I am not loud" the woman said sighing as the mechanic followed the path of the helicopter in the sky, "whirly bird looks like it was heading to the mall across town" he said, "it is a helicopter, a helicopter, you call that thing a whirly bird one more time ill beat your ass soo hard you sisters gonna wish she never gave birth to ya!" the man in the suit yelled raising his fist at the young mechanic. The football man had seen enough and took charge of the situation, "everybody clam down, I live around here, that chopper looks like its heading to the mall across town, it aint far ill take ya there" he said as the woman sighed, "sounds good, but we better grab some weapons and go... I think those things are down there..." she said her voice trailing off as groaning and grunting could be heard below. "Get me to the mall and I will make it worth ya while" the suit said, "lets go then... and I will call it what I like fancy suit" the young mechanic said as the woman turned to face them, "look if we stay together and keep our heads we can get through this" she said, "then lets do it, everybody grab a weapon and lets go" the football man said walking back towards the door. "If you aren't ready I don't wanna hear it" the suit said descending the staircase once again with his pistols raised, the mechanic and football coach following him as he lead the way back down towards where the enemy was... the woman looked around her for a moment, sighing deeply and taking a deep breathe before following them down... she had a rough feeling their journey was gonna be a long one...
