This is my Owl House Adopted!AU I made and posted on my Twitter and DeviantArt (you can find the names on my profile bio). This is an AU where Eda took Luz in years before they originally meet.
Years before the pilot to The Owl House originally takes place, Eda the Owl Lady travels to the human world herself to find (steal) items to sell back at home because her owl who usually does the job has fallen ill.
After hours of searching, Eda was sitting on her broom while floating in the air, satisfied with her loot and was ready to head home. But that was until the witch noticed a small girl with tan skin walking alone on the empty road. Curious as to why the little girl was out so late by herself, Eda flew down with her broom and made her appearance known to the child.
The little girl marveled at the sight of the witch before her. Eda asked the girl her name and where she lives, offering to give her a lift home. But the girl didn't reply.
Eda asked once more but the girl still didn't say anything. Growing annoyed, Eda was just about to leave the kid until she thought about how old the girl really is. She realized that the child must be around two or three years of age and can barely form words, let alone know her own address.
Not knowing what to do next, Eda reluctantly decided to bring the girl home with her for the night and come back the next day to find her real home.
The next day arrives and Eda returns to the human world and searches the areas near where she found the kid only to find nothing. Back at home, Eda weighs her options. So she swallows her pride and decides to keep the child as her own, much to the excitement of her housemate, King.
Accepting that the girl will now be living with them, Eda and King try to think of a name for her. King suggests that they call her King Jr. Eda shoots the idea down saying that not only does that sound dumb, but Kings are titles for males. Eda thinks about calling her Eda Jr as she's the one who found the girl. King tells Eda that her idea is dumber than his. The two argue about names for a time but finally make a decision when the girl randomly blurts out the word "Luz".
As the years go by, Luz grows more familiar with the Boiling Isles and the other locations nearby. When she was younger, Luz announced to her adopted mother and adopted older brother that she wants to learn magic and be a witch like her mom (Which Eda doesn't want to be called). At first, Eda didn't want to teach Luz magic but immediately changes her mind when King offered to enroll her into the Magic School called Hexside.
By the age of 13, Luz wasn't able to actually preform magic as she doesn't have the very thing that gives all witch's magic. But she never gave up. A few moons ago, Luz discovered a pattern in a light spell that Eda commonly preforms and has mastered it so she tries to find all patterns that makes it possible for humans to do magic as well.
Luz has made two friends outside of Eda and King, A girl named Willow and boy named Gus. The three have known each other for years when Eda brought a younger Luz into town to help her sell human relics where Luz first met the two. Though Willow and Gus wasn't aware that Luz was a human at first because Eda demanded that she always wore a hood to hide her ears which is drastically different than a resident in the Boiling Isles which would be a dead giveaway. The reason why Luz has to hide the truth is because humans aren't well liked in the Boiling Isles.
It wasn't until the day that Luz went to the Hexside School to help Willow on the abomination project that she and Gus learned the truth about Luz and still saw her as their friend. Even if that did lead to other people figuring out about her existence.
When she was younger, Luz was made fully aware that she isn't from this world. She believed this as she held small memories of her previous home. Nothing huge, just small flashes of her past. But one memory that stands out to her is a woman with a similar skin and hair color as herself with a pair of glasses to finish the look. Luz suspects that this may be her birth mother.
A little after Eda officially adopted Luz, she promised to return Luz back to the human world when Luz is old enough and could take care of herself. But that was before they spent so many days, months, and years with each other. And no matter how many times Eda repeats her promise to her reflection in the mirror, she can't help but to feel sad that her daught...apprentice will have to leave her one day.
So tell me what you all thought about this idea. Have any ideas on things I should add or replace?
