Chapter 90: Steps into Darkness
In the Skylands...
A female figure was riding on a yellow dragon while chasing after a black steampunk flying ship.
The woman was in her early 30's. She had unique curly long blonde hair with peach pink highlights, fair skin, violet eyes and pale blue Venus symbols on her cheeks. She wore light blue sleeveless vest on top of a white tank top and light blue shorts that were held by a dark blue belt with a golden box-frame buckle. She also wore light blue gloves with yellow trims and light blue leather boots with yellow soles. On her hair there was a blue hairband.
"Faster Goldie, your losing them!"A male voice protested.
"I know that."Marigold scowled on her comlink and looked at the yellow dragon. "Try and bring us closer, Sparrow."
Sparrow flew towards the steampunk flying ship.
Suddenly the flying ship fired it's cannons at Sparrow and Marigold.
Sparrow carefully dodged the firing cannons.
Marigold used her magic to form a shield around her and her dragon.
"It looks like they discovered we were chasing after them."Marigold muttered.
Marigold took out a little gold hair clip from her head and placed a tracking chip on it.
The woman threw the tracker clip beneath the flying ship.
Then the steampunk ship disappeared through a dark portal.
"That ship was definitely from the dark dimension."Marigold said with a frown and looked at her comlink. "Any clue what they have been searching for in the ancient ruins, Jasper?"
A hologram of a red blade with a skull face piece appeared.
"The Doom Blade of Destruction."Jasper answered. "This monstrous blade was once powerful enough to split one kingdom into sixteen regions during a costly uprising during Lyric Butterfly's reign. I also discovered this blade can cut through demon flesh like butter and defences that are impervious to conventional weapons."
"Well that's not good since I'm half demon from my mother's side."Marigold stated.
"We have to find this blade before the League of Shadows do."Jasper commented. "But we're going to need help."
Marigold smirked. "I know just the right person."
In the Doomingale Forest...
A robot training dummy fired a bunch of blasts and flamethrowers at Pamela.
Pamela gracefully dodged the attacks and avoided getting any slashes or hits.
"Hiyah!"Pamela shouted.
Pamela skilfully punched and kicked the robot training dummy before slicing it in half using her ring's magic.
The brunette wore a black jacket that ends just below her shoulders and above her chest and had pink trimmings on top and was pink on the inside, two black belt shoulder straps, a small silver scarf around her neck and a white vest, short white gloves, a brown belt, white pants and white spat ankle boots.
"What was the timing this time?"Pamela asked.
"15.6 seconds."Valen remarked checking the timer. "It's better than last time."
Pamela smiled. "I guess so."
An enveloped appeared in front of Pamela.
Pamela opened the envelope and took out a letter.
"He-Hello Queen Pamela...I'm a fan girl of you."Pamela read. "So...I was wondering if...I could get your autograph, please?"
Pamela covered her mouth to giggle before taking out a feather pen to sign the letter.
"This is highly regular."Valen complemented.
"It truly is."Pamela agreed with a smile. "Usually it is only documents and paper work which get my signature."
Suddenly a large green tentacle from the swamp river came out to grab Pamela
"Pamela, look out!"Valen shouted.
Valen grabbed Pamela out of the way in a bridal style just as a bunch of magic lasers was fired at the tentacle causing it to retreat back in the swamp.
"I really hate coming here."Valen retorted.
"Valen, you can put me down now."Pamela reminded.
Valen blushed when he notice that he was still holding Pamela and then placed her back on the ground.
"Sorry."Valen apologised.
"No big deal."Pamela said. "But who just saved us?"
"Your one and only, little sister."
Valen and Pamela turned around and saw Goldie waving at them.
"Goldie?"Pamela asked.
Marigold gives Pamela a wink causing the brunette to frown in suspicion.
Back in Avalon...
Pamela was angrily had her back turned and arms folded while Marigold was trying to talk to her.
"Pamela, it's not wise to ignore me like this."Marigold reminded.
Artix, Saturn, Valen and Charlotte were watching the two women while standing next to a tree.
"Pam, never mentioned she had a older sister."Charlotte commented.
"And a super hot one, meow!"Artix said smugly.
Saturn glared at Artix in annoyance.
"Goldie is gorgeous, but Pamela is more of my type."Valen thought.
"Did you know Pamela had a sister, Saturn?"Charlotte asked.
"Of course, I do."Saturn retorted. "She's my cousin as well, duh."
"Right."Charlotte said in embarrassment.
"Marigold is a inter-dimensional spy, so most things she does are top secret."Saturn admitted.
"You four realising spying is inappropriate, right?"
Artix, Saturn, Valen and Charlotte freaked out a little when they saw Marigold behind her.
"Now that you know my secret, I have no choice but to erase your memories."Marigold said and took a red spray bottle. "Don't worry, it burns but it'll do the trick."
"No, thank you!"Artix, Valen and Charlotte replied quickly.
Artix, Valen and Charlotte went out of the way except Saturn, who simply rolled her eyes.
"Still hanging out with my brother aren't you, Goldie?"Saturn questioned with a fake smile.
"We have a special relationship, it's nothing too personal."Marigold assured.
Saturn scoffed. "Like I'll believe that."
"Calm down, guys."Pamela chuckled as she walked forward. "Don't take my sister too seriously."
"So your name is Marigold or Goldie?"Valen asked.
"My birth name is Marigold, but most people call me Goldie, nice to meet you."Marigold admitted.
"Oh, like the golden flower?"Charlotte asked.
"My father was the one who chose to name me that while Ferelith chose to name little sister, Pamela."Marigold commented.
"That's cool."Artix chuckled.
Saturn gives Artix a glare.
Pamela's heart sank a little at the mention of her father since he was no longer around.
"Anyway cut to the point, Goldie."Pamela suggested with a hint of annoyance. "Why are you here?"
"Is it obvious, Pam?"Marigold asked in confusion. "I came to see you. Aren't you happy?"
"Happy?"Pamela retorted sarcastically and frowned. "Funny since your not ever around when your needed most."
"I heard about what happened to Aunt Comet and that your a married woman with three remarkable kids."Marigold said. "Alright, sorry that I missed every important moment in your life."
"Sure you are."Pamela muttered with her arms folded.
"I also have information about the League of Shadows."Marigold admitted.
Hearing this sentence caused to earn Pamela, Valen, Charlotte, Artix and Saturn's attention.
In Avalon Castle...
Marigold shows Pamela, Valen, Charlotte, Artix and Saturn a image of the doom blade using a holopad.
"This is the Doom Blade."Marigold stated. "A sword of destruction that will change the wielder into an unstoppable killing machine if it's in the wrong hands."
"Where can we find this sword?"Charlotte asked.
"As Jasper told me, it's in the dark fortress."Marigold replied. "But I heard it used to be the home of a wise king centuries ago before Zorbak Kitsune and his dark elves took over turning the area into their base."
"So you need our help to get into the fortress, ambush the dark elves and find the sword to save the universe from total chaos?"Artix said.
"Precisely."Marigold answered.
"Sounds like a grand adventure."Saturn complemented sarcastically.
"I say we give it a shot."Pamela admitted.
Valen remained quiet and didn't say anything.
Dabyi secretly watched the group from the door before scurrying away.
Afterwards...
The group headed to the dark fortress with Saturn using her dimensional scissors.
They then used a boat to make them get closer to the base since it was surrounded by water.
Valen and Charlotte began getting inside the castle by climbing the wall.
The duo see a beam of light and see they have found a window.
Charlotte tears away the branch that blocked the window before she and Valen climbed inside.
They look around the strange hallway as Artix and Pamela followed them in.
"We should split up."Pamela instructed. "Valen go with Lottie and Artix, your with me."
"Fine, but be careful."Valen warned.
Pamela and Artix went on the left while Valen and Charlotte went on the right.
As the duo rounded a corner, Valen and Charlotte hear a snort.
Carefully Valen and Charlotte looked around to see a guard sleeping, his head resting on a table.
Valen and Charlotte quickly slipped past the guard, but looked back to make sure they weren't seen.
Then the guard dog sees the duo and barks viciously at them.
Charlotte throws sleeping powder on the guard's dog so he doesn't wake up and bark at them.
The guard grumbled a little and then continued sleeping.
"Always prepared aren't you?"Valen chuckled quietly.
Charlotte smirked. "I have my ways."
As they carefully walked around the dark fortress, Valen and Charlotte notice a hole beneath the wall.
The hole was big enough for the duo to slip in and they
"This fortress have lots of hidden areas."Valen stated.
"Yeah, but very scary ones."Charlotte added.
Charlotte took out a jar causing a yellow wisp to come out and bring some light in the passages.
The wisp flew around the dark passages that no one has been in for years.
It started chasing the rats that live in the passages to scare them away.
"What's it doing?"Valen asked.
"Oh, it's always chasing rats."Charlotte replied.
Valen finds a hole in the wall and looks in as Charlotte looked in too while holding his shoulders.
"A burial chamber!"Charlotte said and frowned. "This could be the tomb of the great king who built this castle before Zorbak took over."
Suddenly the wall began to fall apart causing Valen to fall forward and Charlotte to back away.
The dust settles leaving a hole big enough to walk through.
"Are you all right?"Charlotte asked.
"Yes."Valen said simply.
"Come on, let's look around."Charlotte suggested.
Valen gets up and walked over to the body of the fallen king.
"He must have been a powerful warrior."Valen thought.
Valen looked more closely at the body and sees a faint outline of a sword with a skull face on it.
It was the Doom Blade!
Valen dusts the sword's skull head and it's eyes started glowing red.
Valen paled in shock at his discovery.
Then his attention was drawn to Charlotte, who was watching a small dark elf servant with a few henchmen.
"This will please him! Piece of good luck this time! Hurry! In with it!"the dark elf demanded. "Hurry! Lord Kitsune will reward me for this! Don't stop you weaklings! Put your backs into it!"
As the dark elf lead the henchmen, who were pulling a cart that contained items covered by a sheet into one of the Lord Kitsune's rooms.
Before the small dark elf closed the doors behind him, an arm belonging to a skeleton warrior dragged behind the cart.
The doors then close making the coast clear.
"We should find the others and get out of here quick."Charlotte admitted.
Valen and Charlotte sneak by the doors and stop around the next corner.
Then Charlotte notice that Valen was holding the Doom Blade.
"Where did you get that?!"Charlotte asked in shock.
"Back in the burial chamber."Valen responded.
"You mean..."Charlotte started.
"Well look, it's old and I am completely fine."Valen assured.
Then a angry voice ran out causing Valen and Charlotte to get alarmed.
"Hurry there are intruders here!"
Charlotte gasped. "We've been discovered!"
Charlotte and Valen run for dear life.
Valen accidentally tripped and dropped the Doom Blade into the ditch aside the parapet.
Charlotte ran ahead without knowing she left Valen behind.
Hearing the Henchmen, Valen jumped into the ditch and grabbing the sword, crawled underneath one of the arches of the parapet.
The Henchmen pass over Valen and went ahead.
When they're gone, Valen climbed on the parapet and began searching for Charlotte.
Somewhere...
Pamela was looking for Artix while carefully walking in the dangerous base.
The brunette tried to activate her magic ring, but it turned off.
"Why isn't my ring working all the sudden?"Pamela questioned.
Pamela began looking for a torch and accidentally ended opening a secret door.
She carefully peeked and saw a figure below talking to a small dark elf.
The tall elf figure had lavender skin, pointy ears and red eyes with yellow sclera. He had white hair that was slicked back over his shoulders with a single forelock hanging down over his face. He wore a grey armour with a brown cape on it.
"Yes Lord Kitsune, the shadow king told us to have the dark crystals planted in other dimensions in order to ease his hunger for Mewni's precious heirlooms."the small dark elf said and became nervous. "It seems we are testing his patience just like the others."
"Not to worry."Zorbak assured with a smirk. "Once the dark crystals get their full powers, the peace of the universe will be nothing but a forgotten memory."
Pamela paled and covered her mouth.
"So that's their plan!"Pamela thought in shock.
The young woman began to quietly back away in order to leave the area.
She suddenly felt sleepy causing her to lose her consciousness.
Pamela felt a pair of arms grab her before darkness consumed her.
Outside the Fortress...
Artix and Charlotte returned to Marigold and Saturn.
"You got separated from my sister?!"Marigold said angrily.
"Yeah, the dark elves called for backup and we ended up going different directions."Artix said.
Saturn scowled and face palm in disappointment.
"Whatever happens to Pam, I'll have you hanged for it."Marigold threatened.
A nervous smile grew on Artix's face.
"Hey, hey, calm down."Charlotte instructed firmly. "Valen will rescue her, I know he will."
"Well, let's hope Valen is capable of the task."Saturn commented with a hint of doubt.
Suddenly arrows were thrown towards the four causing Marigold to form a shield to protect her and her companions.
Artix and Charlotte used their lasers to distract the evil beings.
Saturn fired a few lightening blasts at the dark elves, who were attacking them.
"We have to leave here!"Marigold warned. "Magic is not strong around the dark crystals!"
"I know that, cousin dearest!"Saturn snapped.
In the Hallway...
Valen groaned in pain while crawling on the ground and holding the Doom Blade with his other hand.
He cursed Zorbak's minions of the state he was in.
"I...I am not strong enough."Valen cried in anger. "I couldn't save my mum and now I'm going to lose Pam too."
"But your story doesn't have to end here."A voice said. "You can still save her. I can help you...if you let me."
Valen slowly opened his eyes and saw a stranger wearing a grey clock standing in front of him.
"The fight with Zorbak's minions has left your body, battered and torn."the Stranger said. "Your strength, gone."
Valen tried to stand up, but failed since his body was in too much pain.
"Your a evil spirit from the dark dimension aren't you?"Valen questioned.
"But I can help you. I can bind your spirit inside your broken body. Knit your bones and muscles back together. But not forever. You need a more permanent solution. A greater source of power."the Stranger said. "I can show you how to get it...though I'm only telling you what you already know. She doesn't have to die."
The stranger reached out his inhuman hand and Valen took it.
Suddenly Valen screamed in pain as a red armour was placed into his body and the Doom Blade's eyes started glowing.
The armour bound itself into Valen's body and they became one.
Meanwhile...
Pamela slowly opened her eyes.
"Ow, my head hurts."Pamela mumbled rubbing her forehead and stood up a little.
Pamela notice she was on a king sized bed and wearing a red velvet dress with small bright pink shaped butterfly wings attached behind her back.
"Why am I dressed like this?"Pamela asked and notice her magic ring was missing. "My ring!"
Pamela moved her hands through the bed and found her magic ring next to her.
"I feel like I have no energy."Pamela whispered and looked around. "Where am I?"
Pamela gasped when she saw Zorbak not far from where she was standing.
"Your all that I thought you be."Lord Kitsune said. "But I must warn you that you may find this castle a bit unpleasant."
"Just who are you?"Pamela asked.
"I am Lord Kitsune, but you can call me Zorbak and I welcome you to my operating base, Pamela Butterfly."Lord Kitsune said. "Or it would be more operate to call you, Queen Pamela of Avalon. Perhaps that's the more proper way to address you. Now let's have a nice relaxing talk."
Lord Kitsune brought his hand out causing Pamela to wince as she was lifted up from the bed.
Pamela placed her ring on her finger.
"Venus, love and beauty shock!"Pamela chanted.
To Pamela's horror, the ring didn't fire the attack.
"It didn't work?!"Pamela thought in shock.
"Your ancestor's legendary ring power is useless against the dark crystals around my base."Lord Kitsune stated.
Lord Kitsune teleported in front of Pamela.
"The dark crystals?"Pamela asked in confusion.
"This chamber is surrounded with the energy of the dark crystals."Lord Kitsune explained. "Magic powers like the one from your ring will be absorbed."
Lord Kitsune puts his hand on Pamela's shoulder but she slapped it away.
"Don't you dare touch me!"Pamela snapped with a cold glare.
"So you want the hard way then."Lord Kitsune said with a dark smile and his eyes flashed red.
Pamela winced in pain as she felt paralysed and Lord Kitsune grabbed her chin.
"I made this room just for you, Mrs Butterfly."Lord Kitsune replied smugly. "It will be your resting place for all eternity."
Pamela glared angrily at the chaos lord.
"Tell me why did you have the dark gems planted in other dimensions and ruin their reign of peace?"Pamela questioned angrily.
"Those that plant dark crystals in all dimensions will manage to open the gate of destruction."Lord Kitsune answered. "And I plan to rule you and this world forever."
Pamela let out a horrified gasp.
"The one who posses true power, who happens to be the Shadow King will proclaim Mewni and other existing worlds rightfully so."Lord Kitsune commented. "As for his followers, we will claim what is rightfully ours."
"Your thinking is twisted and wrong!"Pamela scowled in anger and disgust.
Lord Kitsune smirked smugly as Pamela struggled to get out of his grip.
"Yes my queen, I would do anything to have you."Lord Kitsune admitted with a evil smile.
Pamela gasped in shock as Lord Kitsune activated his hypnotic power.
"Queen Pamela, at last you are mine."Lord Kitsune whispered.
"PAMELA!"
"Valen?!"Pamela thought in surprise. "Was that my imagination? He sounded so far away. I'm all alone and I can't use any of my powers."
Lord Kitsune was getting close to press Pamela's lips.
"Valen, help me!"Pamela thought in tears. "Someone other than Drakath or you, is about to kiss me..."
Suddenly a dark rose was thrown at Kitsune causing him to stop using his hypnotising power and let go of Pamela.
Pamela screamed as she fell and landed back on the bed.
Lord Kitsune angrily removed the rose on his shoulder causing a bit of blood to spill out.
"Who did that?!"Lord Kitsune demanded.
Pamela looked up and saw Valen standing in a window that was broken.
"Valen!"Pamela called out in relief.
"How dare you use your evil in a hypnotic power to try and force yourself on an innocent woman!"Valen scowled with a glare. "You disgusting coward!"
"Silent!"Lord Kitsune snapped. "You soul eating slave!"
Lord Kitsune activated his hypnoses on Valen causing the shadow knight to block his eyes with his elbow.
Suddenly dark wind waves moved around Lord Kitsune which prevent him from attacking Valen.
"What?!"Lord Kitsune shouted.
A dark whip dropped next Pamela.
"Pamela!"Valen shouted. "Quickly!"
Pamela carefully climbed up the dark whip and Valen brought her close to him.
"Come back here!"Lord Kitsune growled.
Lord Kitsune watched as Valen took Pamela away and the wind waves continued blocking him from following.
Outside the Fortress...
Mercedes watched as Valen and Pamela flew away on a hang glider.
Listol walked next to Mercedes.
"I hope you have a good reason to let your niece and that soul eater get away."Listol said with a frown.
"I can't let a follower of the shadow king have his way with my younger niece."Mercedes stated with a smirk. "But I can assure now that the Doom Blade has found it's true owner, the universe will be close to darkness more sooner than you think."
Listol smirked. "Even if it means a person that shares your blood will perish?"
"Pawns come and go."Mercedes stated with a cruel smile.
Listol and Mercedes smiled evilly at each other before looking back where Valen and Pamela escaped to.
Outside the Fortress...
Valen and Pamela landed on a empty wasteland.
"Valen."Pamela said. "Are you alright?"
"Yes."Valen responded. "But Pam, I've been given a dangerous power in order to save you and if I start becoming too powerful because of it, I'll be seen as a threat to everyone."
Pamela fell silent for a moment before placing her hands on Valen's face.
"No matter if the whole universe will turn against you, know I will always be at your side."Pamela admitted softly.
Valen and Pamela share a passionate kiss.
A gust wind blew at the couple.
Valen and Pamela notice the wind was giving an unsettling chill causing them to look at the unsafe area that they were in.
