Steve awoke to Bucky moving violently. He was muttering something that Steve couldn't understand, probably something in Romanian.
"Bucky wake up," Steve whispered loudly while shaking him.
Bucky awoke and grabbed Steve and held him in a choke hold with his metal arm. He suddenly realised what he was doing. He let go and jumped off the bed.
"Steve, I'm so sorry, I didn't-" he started only to be cut off.
"Babe, it's ok," Steve said groggily, "come here."
Steve held his arms out as Bucky crawled back onto the bed. Steve pulled him close.
"Now, do you want to tell me what just happened," the blond said in his infamous mum voice.
"I-I had a nightmare, but it doesn't matter."
Steve placed his hands on either side of his head. He looked deep into his broken eyes. If you looked at him from a distance, he looked just like a normal person, but when Steve looked, he felt as if someone he had never met looked back. Of course he loved and and always will, but he was so broken, he's not the Bucky he had before.
Before he could stop himself, the blonde had a tear fall down his cheek.
"Stevie don't cry, it's fine, I'm fine."
"No you're not Bucky. I can see it in your eyes."
Bucky looked down and pulled Steve into a hug.
"Everytime I close my eyes, I see Pierce and Zola looking at me. I see my training. I see you, but when I fell. I see you crying, distraught, just having to watch me," Bucky said with a shake, "I'm sorry I'm not who I once was."
Steve couldn't speak. Having to watch the man he loved fall from the train always haunted him. Steve pulled away from their embrace. He moved Bucky's hair out his face and wiped a tear from his cheek.
"Don't ever apologise for what happened to you, it's not your fault."
"You always say that, but it was," Bucky choked, "I could of ran away whenever I wanted to do, but I didn't"
Bucky looked up into Steve's eyes. He saw a man who had seen so much. He could see the love in his face.
"You really do love me," Bucky muttered."
"I do."
"I can see it in your eyes," the soldier smiled.
