Thank you to Leapyearbaby29 for letting me know about this chapter! – Kay

Lena sighed into her glass, finally feeling the days stress wash away as she downs her drink in one gulp. To say that she was stressed was an understatement.

After killing her brother only to find out that he was still alive, then finding out her best friend had been lying to her for over three years added onto the onslaught of emotions. Emotions that she's barely able to hide these days.

She could practically hear Lillian's disapproval of weakness as she poured then down another glass of whiskey.

Setting down the now empty glass, she chose to look around her office. Papers clouded her desk and small coffee table, she envied the people with nine to five jobs. Ones that could leave their work without bringing it home with them.

A loud bang pulled her out of her thoughts, tensing up as she looked towards her office doors.

There, soaking wet from the pounding rain outside. Stood Kara Danvers.

Zor-el, she reminded herself as she rolled her eyes and walked back over to her desk.

"What now?" Lena said, stacking the pages on her desk to keep herself busy.

Kara didn't answer, gritting her teeth Lena dropped the papers back on her desk and turned to look back at the super.

Her hands were on both doors, small cracks ran up the doors from where her hands were placed. Lena could see her body shaking from across the room, if she had to guess it was from the rain.

"You can't just barge in here, breaking my doors in an attempt to fix everything." Lena hissed, Kara's eyes were glued to the ground.

"Look, I don't have time for this. I have a company to-"

"Stop." Kara breathed, finally meeting her gaze.

Lena had to hold herself back from snapping back at her.

"Please, I can't take this anymore Lena.. I fucked up okay!" Kara cried out, moving from the door to stand in front of her.

"I should have told you, I wanted to so many times. I hated lying to you, hiding myself from you. You've opened yourself up so much to me, to Alex.. To everyone, only to feel like we've betrayed you."

Lena dug her nails into her palms as Kara came closer and closer, seeing this the super stopped and ran her fingers through her wet hair.

"I'm sorry, I can't even imagine how much pain you've been in these past few weeks. I tried to come see you, to explain myself but when I came here I found out you took me off the list. So I gave you more time, but I can't just sit there while you're in pain Lena.."

"Go home Kara."

"No."

"Kara."

"No, I'm not leaving until you understand why I didn't tell you!"

Lena had had enough, her anger getting the better of her as she walked the rest of the way to stand inches from the other face.

"Tell me then, tell me why you chose to lie to me for years. Explain why hiding who you are from me was okay, that it was the only thing you could do to keep me safe from your enemies!"

The room went quiet, both women locked in a heated gaze. Lena watched as Kara opened her mouth to speak, hearing nothing come out Lena shook her head.

"You played me, used me."

"You know I would never do that." Kara stated

"Do I?" Lena challenged, seeing the other woman look down at their hands, "Kara I barely know who you are anymore."

"I can prove it to you." Kara stated, Lena scoffed as she moved away from the super.

"I can and I will." Kara said, moving over to her balcony. Opening up the door before glancing back at her.

"I'll be right back." she said before taking off, Lena watched for a few minutes. Waiting to see her swoop back in, she tore her eyes away from the door. The thought of her bed was starting to sound better and better by the second. She was about to reach for her coat when a gust of wind brushed past her.

"Here." Kara said, Lena spun around to see her sitting on her couch holding out a rope. She stared puzzled at the super before Kara wrapped the rope around her wrists, seeing it start to glow.

"Ask me."

Lena's eyes were glued to the rope, wondering where Kara had gotten it from. What it did.

"How is this supposed to help." she asked

"I borrowed this from a friend, as long as I wear this I cannot lie to you."

Lena hummed, sitting on the other side of the couch.

"Where did you get this from?" pointing at the now glowing rope.

"Wonder Woman."

"Let me guess, Lasso of truth?"

Seeing the super nod, she had known about it. Being the sister of a xenophobic mass murderer and all. She rubbed her temples, wishing she would have just taken the day off.

"Ask me Lena, please."

"Did you hide your identity because of my family?" she asked, getting the easiest question she could think of out in the open.

"No, just because you have their last name isn't why I hid myself from you." Kara stated, Lena watched as she went to reach for her hand.

"Why then, why did you do it Kara?"

She could see Kara fighting the rope, trying to stop herself from saying whatever she was going to say.

"It's complicated." Kara said through gritted teeth.

"Then uncomplicate it."

Kara took a deep breath, pausing for a minute as if to compose her thoughts before she answered.

"When we first met, you told me you were trying to make a new name outside of your family. That was one of the many things that made me like you. I was going through the same thing but with being Supergirl instead of Clarks sidekick. You blew me away with how you weren't like your family, how you used your technology for good." Kara smiled, Lena's hands itched for something to do. To try and take her mind off what Kara was saying.

"As we grew closer, you opened yourself up to me. Trusted me, and I have not nor ever will use your secrets against you."

"That's not an answer." Lena cut in, wanting to know the full truth.

"No, but I'm getting to it." Kara teased

"I started to notice some things after the first few months, while I tried to find out a way of how I wanted to tell you the truth. One part of me didn't want to, and it's not for what you think."

"I started to like how I could be just Kara around you, no superhero duties. I felt more like myself, like I was wanted. Rather than just needed to fight crime. I started to feel other things, things I didn't know how to understand at first. It took me talking to Alex to finally understand what was happening."

"Don't." Lena said, standing up from the couch, putting as much space as she could between her and the super.

"You need to know the truth, you need to know why I hid this from you Lena.."

"You can't just come up here and tell me you lied to me because you were in love with me!"

Kara didn't say anything, Lena felt as if the proverbial carpet was being swept underneath her feet. The words she had been waiting to hear for so long were out in the open. She could hear Kara stand up, moving across the room to her side.

"I am. I am in love with you Lena, I can't change how you found out the truth about who I really am.. But I am standing here right now, telling you that I will do anything to earn back your trust. To show you that I do in fact love you, and if my love isn't what you want it won't stop me from at least gaining back your friendship."

Lena didn't know what to say, part of her wanted to reach out and grab the super. Wrap her arms around her and tell her that she forgives her. While the other part wanted to brush off her words and hide within herself, to bury this as deep as she could.

"Lena?"

"I need time." she whispered

"I can wait." Kara said, Lena nodded as she glanced at her clock. It was well past midnight, she knew that she could call her driver to come get her. He was probably sleeping by now.

"Kara."

Looking back at her, she could see Kara standing there with her hands on her hips. The classic Superman pose, Lena reached her hand up and scratched the back of her neck.

"I know it's late, I should have headed home hours ago.. My driver is most likely sleeping as we speak, so if it isn't too much trouble. Would you be able to fly me home?" Lena asked, she saw Kara stared puzzled for a second.

"I thought you hated flying?"

"I do." Lena stated, hoping the super would take the hint she was giving. Letting herself place the slightest bit of trust that she wouldn't drop her.

"Oh, sure. I mean yes!" Kara grinned, moving to stand by the patio door while Lena busied herself with packing up for the night. Turning off the lights and locking her office door.

"It's still raining out, not as much as it was but your hair might get a little wet." Kara warned, Lena shrugged her shoulders. She had already planned to take a nice long shower once she got home. Slipping on her coat, she stepped out onto her balcony. Locking the glass door before turning to Kara.

The Super gave a small smile, wrapping one arm around Lena's shoulders while bending down to wrap the other behind her knees. Without ease, she lifted the CEO and took off.

Lena shut her eyes tight, not wanting to see how high up they were. Tucking her head under Kara's chin, choosing to listen to the steady beat of Kara's heart while trying to shield her face from the cold but slightly refreshing rain.

When Kara touched down softly on the apartment balcony, Lena reopened her eyes and looked up at her.

"Thank you." Lena said as she slipped out of Kara's grasp.

"I should let you get inside." Kara stated, turning and looking out over the city. Her eyes scanning the empty streets below. Lena opened her mouth to speak, only to have the sound of sirens cut her off. Kara eyes shot off towards them, Lena could have guessed that she could see them from her balcony.

"I'm sorry, I have to go." Kara said as she turned to look back at her.

"Try not to destroy any more buildings." Lena gave a small smile, seeing the Super smirk at her one last time before taking off into the night sky.
