Pitter-patter, click, click, pitter-patter, click, click...
The noise of the rain mixed in with Rini's typing.
Ah, what a familiar sound, a comforting sound. It was so mundane, a completely common occurrence for Rini to be typing away on her computer, yet it sounded like such heaven to those ears.
Pitter-patter, click, click, pitter-patter, click, click...
'I'd be happy, just listening to this sound forever...'
Pitter-patter, click, click, pitter-patter, click, click...
Sunlight crept into the window of Rein's room. "Mmm...five more minutes..." She rolled over and faced the other side of her room, away from the sun, fully intending to go back to sleep, but she could hear soft snoring now...
"Hm?" Blearily opening her eyes she could make out a figure in front of her...Was it Rini? But why would Rini be sleeping in Rein's room? Rini has her own room!
Rubbing the sleep out of her eyes, Rein took a closer look at the figure. That's not Rini.
"A boy?" Rein poked his cheek.
Poke, poke, poke...
"Mmm...five more minutes..." The boy grumbled.
"We have that in common..." Rein smiled. Poke, poke, poke...'But it's time to get up now.'
"Nnnn…huh?" The boy reluctantly got up and blinked the sleepiness form his eyes.
Soon he came face to face with Rein.
Stare…
Staaare…
Staaaaaaaaaaaaare…
"Huh?" The boy finally said.
"Hi!" Rein smiled.
"...Hello?"
"Who are you?"
"I'm…uh…I'm…um…" The boy looked like he was struggling to come up with an answer. But how come? It's the easiest thing to answer!
It's not like Rein asked him what the value of sinF was when the B side of triangle ABC is 90°, BC is 16, and AC is 20. And since triangle DEF is similar to triangle ABC, where vertices D, E, and F correspond to vertices A, B, and C, respectively, and each side of triangle DEF is 1/3 the length of the corresponding side of triangle ABC, so he could figure it out with what information was given to him, although it's not exactly an easy question. (Although to Rein, this was pretty easy to answer too.)
Compared to that, just asking for his name is much, much easier! And yet…he still couldn't answer. How come?
Maybe…
"You don't remember your name?" Rein asked.
"Nn…seems like it…" The boy responded.
"Oh, well, how about we think of a name to call you instead!"
"O-okay."
Rein began to think. What name would suit him? Something that matches his hair color? Is there a name that means purple? Or maybe it would be easier to find a name that means blue, like his eyes! Or maybe something that reflects who he is? Though…the only thing about him that Rein knows is that he just suddenly appeared when she was still groggy from sleep…
Maybe she shouldn't think too deeply on it and just pick something that sounds pretty.
Something pretty…
Pretty…
"Oh! How about Eclipse?"
"Eclipse?"
"Yeah! Isn't it a pretty name? Eclipses are pretty too, right?"
"Uh-huh."
"Yeah! So then we'll call you Eclipse then."
"Okay…say, why are you so calm?"
"Hm?"
"I mean I…uh…can't remember how I got here and seemed to have woken up in your room, but you seem so calm."
"Well so do you! For someone with no memories who woke up in a stranger's room you're calm too!"
"We…I'm not…Well, maybe it's because I don't remember anything that I'm so calm. But you have all your memories right?"
"I guess it's 'cause Rini always told me to expect the unexpected! So I guess when something unexpected happens it doesn't surprise me."
"...Is that so?"
"Yup!"
"Hm…well…what's your name?"
"Oh, I'm Rein! But people like to call me trash, maggot, waste-of-space, and bitch!"
"…"
"Something wrong?"
Eclipse stared at her in disbelief. She seemed so cheery even after saying what she just said. Even worse, she doesn't even seem to know why he's shocked!
"Um, I'm pretty sure those aren't compliments."
"But they're so nice to waste their time on giving me nicknames! I should be happy for them!"
"I don't…ugh…"
This was gonna give Eclipse a big headache…
