Haunted Memory
She awoke silently gasping for air, tears streaming down her face. For a moment she could not think why she was crying. Then she remembered.
She had dreamt of that night: a whispered confession, eyes full of hope. Her stunned silence the only reply.
The attack had been so sudden, no one had time to think. They all acted on instinct. He fought harder than any other, as though he had no fear of death. As though he had no reason to live.
They called him brave the day they put him in the ground. But she knew the truth.
