The next chapter's on the 11th of May.
Yuuko looks away properly now. The shame and sadness on her face make it clear that whatever his wish is, it is closely linked to her.
"I cannot tell you that." Her voice is quieter somehow, smaller. She tries to pick it up though she still doesn't look back at them.
"But it's an impossible wish. The kind that everybody dreams of and nobody can ever see come true. That is all I can tell you for now without crossing the line of interference." The witch's eyes, seeming suddenly more human than ever before, turn back to look over them all.
Kurogane's voice grits out again and Fai hates that he's so much stronger than he has been in his whole life in one moment.
The only thing which stays his nails from taking purchase in the palms of his hands against the nauseating self-loathing is the girl in his lap, limp and angry and exhausted. Her hand grips his tighter and he looks into the corner of the room to avoid seeing anyone.
"What do you mean 'interference'?" The man asks.
"The world might seem chaotic for you who are moving through it but actions and words balance out and the course of destiny is followed. When the balance is lost destiny collapses in on itself. For some people that happened as soon as that man sent you on this journey." She says.
Fai's world crashes in on him again.
He was moved to another world and the person who was most with him went mad and killed everyone and Fai has always known- had always known- that he brings misfortune to whoever he is around but this just confirms it.
Ashura- the king who had been his father, who had loved him and supported him and raised him and taught him- had become a monster because Fai was with him. Everywhere he goes people end up suffering.
Again he feels the dead beneath him, the frozen blood over his hands, his arms, his face in streaks where he's tried to wipe his tears with shaking hands.
"Whatever happens now should be your choice." The witch says.
Fai swallows and the sound must echo in the silence he thinks as they all stare at her, face moon-white and eyes cold yet somehow sympathetic as she looks back at them.
They are all quiet for far too long, nobody wanting to make a single movement or breathe.
Fai knows that whatever comes next will shatter everything.
They hang in suspension, in this moment before everything changes.
