Dee lurked at a safe distance, leaning against the wall of the corridor, while Ryo finished his conversation with Commissioner Rose. He wasn't spying, and he wasn't being jealous, he trusted Ryo completely. He was simply waiting for his partner and didn't want to interrupt because that would be rude, and the last thing needed was to give that rat bastard Rose more ammunition to use against him.

For reasons unknown, aside from the fact that Rose had a totally unrequited thing for Ryo, Dee knew the Commissioner hated him, but that was fine; the feeling was entirely mutual. Dee would have liked nothing more than to knock that smarmy smirk right of old Berkie's face, but since he valued his career and Rose outranked him by a considerable margin, that was only ever gonna happen in Dee's imagination.

Finally Rose moved away, shooting Dee one of those snidely smug looks he was so good at. Dee fought the urge to react; he would have liked to maybe throw a few choice insults at the Commissioner's retreating back, but he valiantly held his tongue.

"Hey, babe."

"Hey yourself. Were you waiting for me?" Ryo smiled and Dee couldn't help but smile back. Rose may want Ryo but Dee was the one the delectable Detective Maclean had chosen.

"Yep, got a lead on the Henderson case." Dee waved the slip of paper on which he'd jotted down the details.

"You should've said something."

"Nah, I figured it could wait a few minutes. 'Sides, I'm not in the mood to make nice with Rose. I hate that guy."

"I noticed." Ryo grinned at his partner. "You know, now I think about it you two are a lot alike."

"Hey!" Dee exclaimed, indignation all over his face. "There's no need to insult me!"
