1Check Your Premise
The thing I dislike about this chapter is the incongruity of everyone seeming to have running 'bets' on who will get with whom. That kind of thing is great if it has context, but you can't just shove it down my literary throat without it being strange and annoying. Especially because you did it all in (parenthesis). I enjoy a good bit of 4th wall braking such as a Deadpool type character, but not the author dishing on the side in his own apparent monologue.

During the first launch, Shinji didn't feel pain from the speed. It was the G-Forces pushing him into the seat. They can be quite damadging to the human moody in higher numbers, causing pilots to black out in tight turns and such. Also when he hits the top of the rail, because of the LCL's dampening affect he doesn't suffer from whiplash, which is the sudden drop in speed and G-Force.
